Finally!!! I'm done reading this headache killer of a book. Basically, I didn't feel anything at all. The beginning went well but after that, it just completely died. There was no romance if you ask me only puppy love. Sure we know if Hunter's past but really what else can we find exciting??? Here is my list of good and bad.

Deeper than Midnight.

What is going on with numerous reviews and fellow GR peeps telling me that this wasn’t all it was expected to be? Personally I think you should all give your selves a slap in the face. I will excuse this infringement and say you all have been in a book funk, because I thought this book rocked.

I have been waiting forever for Hunter's book!! I was not disappointed!

What I Loved:

~I wasn’t confused at all. The author did a great job of refreshing my memory of the past storylines.

~Great sexual tension. Hunter and Corinne were beautiful together.

~It was partly set in Louisiana. I bet Amelie can make a bitchin’ pot of gumbo!

~Getting more insight on the history of Gideon and Savannah’s relationship. I would love to be able to read more about how they fell in love.

~Getting to meet Xander Raph...more

This series is my absolute FAVORITE and was also my very FIRST series in the paranormal romance when I started years ago. Some of the books are much better then the others but all very good. Dante, Tegan and Rio's books are the best of this series, in my opinion.

Let me start with what I love about this book. I loved the 1st half. The writing, the premise, and the plot twists alone, were written superbly. This one has alot of suspense, a trade mark to the Breed novels. I love that I got to touch base with all of the Warriors & their mates. U can't help but to care about them all and just because their books ended doesn't mean they are no longer important to us readers.

Hunter, of course! What is not to love about this strong, silent "Hero" Even though...more Let me start with what I love about this book. I loved the 1st half. I love that I got to touch base with all of the Warriors & their mates. U can't help but to care about them all and just because their books ended doesn't mean they are no longer important to us readers.

Hunter, of course! What is not to love about this strong, silent "Hero" Even though we only met him 4 books prior, he was immediately intriguing to me. I wanted to know this guy's story. I felt very protective of him. Even though he had yet to show us if he would be an ally or enemy to the Order. All I knew was that I wanted Hunter to know some of the beauty this world has to offer. Knowing where he came from, his very existence in the only world he knew & what he endured was just heartbreaking.

I do like that we get a more than brief preview of our Beloved Chase as well. I do think that he was just as front and center as Hunter was & was sort of approaching that thin line of taking the spot light, but not quite crossing it. Thank Goodness! Cuz this is Hunter's story and we'll have Chase soon enough. But it is a good set up for his book next year..

Now with all this, the reason why I give this one a 3.5 star rating is due to Corinne & Hunter's chemistry or lack there of. I did not care for her even when we got her back story from Brock in his book. I was a little worried when it was revealed that she would be Hunter's love interest. But I took it in stride hoping to be pleasantly surprised. NO such luck. I'm sorry 2 say. This pairing left much to be desired.

The intensity that you felt with the other mates was not even present with these two. And I was hoping because of the type of Breed Hunter is, that once these foreign feelings of love, caring, possessiveness, & sexual awakening took hold of him, it would prove to be even more intense. Just because these are feelings he has never known, it would seem 2 be the natural progression that would occur. But it didn't. The romance with he and Corinne fell flat to me. And there is nothing present in her personality or otherwise that complimented him. They were just not "yin" to the other's "yang"...

Lastly, the ending.. There was just something missing and I can't quite put my finger on it. There were things that were pleasantly surprising & obvious cliff hangers. But the writing became choppy, and the emotions displayed came off as rushed with a half hearted attempt at sincerity or depth of the emotional conflicts displayed in certain scenes during the last 4 chapters. Overall this book was still a pretty good read & a good addition to this series. I just feel that for my beloved Hunter, Ms. Adrian could have done a much better job. Although these books can be read as stand alones I would highly recommend you follow this series in sequence. Overall I think this series is excellent. And I recommend this read.

I've been looking forward to Hunter's story for quite sometime but wasn't too happy when I found out that Corinne was going to be his Breedmate. I just didn't care for her from before and wasn't too sure if they would work well with each other. I'm happy to say that Lara Adrian brought them together very well. They just fit and were so sweet together especially after everything they've both been through.

This was one of the very best Midnight Breed stories, imo. Talk about moving the storyline along. The last few books have been very action-oriented, and more about finding and battling the Ancient than about fighting Dragos. There wasn’t a whole lot of action in this one; it was much more introspective into the Breeds lives and how this predicament with Dragos was affecting them personally. This war with him will really heat up in Chase’s book. I still cannot believe it will be nearly a year long wait.

Corinne had been freed from Dragos control after 75 years of captivity. She, along with Hunter, begin an adventure that will lead them to the son, Nathan, that she had in captivity. He, of course, is a hunter/assassin, just as Hunter was; but still in training at 13. The mother in me hurt right along with Corinne and her predicament, and her unwavering hope at finding Nathan. As for Corinne and Hunter, their story was beautiful. Neither knew anything of love or human kindness, both were virgins in their own way, and both were wounded souls trying to regain their sense of self . I liked that they got to know each other throughout the story, and that the bond-mating was not quite the true-mate and “mine” scenario as the other matings. This came after they had begun the bonding process and had fallen in love. They discussed what would happen if they bonded just so Hunter could read her blood; and they actually talked to each other instead of having the ‘big misunderstanding’ that so many books employ. Hunter should have told her about the vision sooner, but he did eventually; and then they had no more secrets from each other. I was more invested in this as a love story than I have been in a long time in a PNR. I liked what happened with Nathan, and that they at least had closure to their HEA, even if the future of the Breeds as a whole was left up in the air at the end of the book. Yes, there were a couple of convenient plot devices; but for the most part, they worked.

I really loved the way the book gave us a more intimate look at the Breeds/Order as a whole, and showed us more of their day to day life. The bits about Savannah and Gideon’s past were a bonus. They were already a couple when the series began, so not a lot was known about their past, and their meeting. We got a lot of interpersonal relationship and dialog between the Breeds, more than in any other book. I knew that Hunter had been an assassin, of course; but did not remember that hunter was a designation given to all the assassins, and not a name. When he came to be part of the Order, why had no one thought to give him a real name? You would think that when they pulled him into their ‘family’, they would have helped him to reveal his own personality, sense of self, and personalized him with his very own name, at the very least.

My big nitpick about the book is not anything about the way it’s written, or even to this series in particular; but in some of the names used in series. There is so much replication of names in PNR series these days. I know there are a lot of series out there, but all PNR authors need to invest a little time in coming up with some new names, names that have not been used over and over again already; and especially in using names that are very significant and prominent characters in another established series.

I cannot wait for Chase’s story. He has really dug himself into a hole, both personally and in his physical endangerment. His story is going to be a doozy!

So excited to finally get Hunter's story. He, more than any of the Breeds, made me feel for him, want him have some measure of happiness to balance what he has already been through. Hunter is a Gen One Breed, born and raised to be a weapon against the Order. He is no longer an enemy, instead an ally and a part, but he is lethal and seemingly emotionless. Particularly in the first chase scene with Murdock and the fight with the assassin, you get to see how genuinely bad ass Hunter really is. When...more So excited to finally get Hunter's story. He, more than any of the Breeds, made me feel for him, want him have some measure of happiness to balance what he has already been through. Hunter is a Gen One Breed, born and raised to be a weapon against the Order. He is no longer an enemy, instead an ally and a part, but he is lethal and seemingly emotionless. Particularly in the first chase scene with Murdock and the fight with the assassin, you get to see how genuinely bad ass Hunter really is. When he glimpses Corrine getting out of the tub, you get to see how vulnerable he is. And when he kisses her for the first time, on a New Orleans dance floor, and his hands tremble when they lightly rest on her back, he is devastating. This lethal, strong warrior is also a virgin. Holy hell.

Hunter deserved more of the story to himself. The book is almost a split between Hunter and Corinne's story and the decline of Sterling Chase. Sterling is succumbing to Bloodlust, and the Order is trying to deal with this, in addition to all the drama of Dragos. Sterling actually drained and killed while feeding, which makes him reprehensible and I wonder how he will be made back into a hero type of character. All of this, I realize, is a set up for Sterlings book, I'd rather have had more of Hunter and Corrine.

Corrine has been tortured, caged and bred by the ancient. She was rescued, with other Breedmates, by the Order and mates. She had a son while in captivity and she is focused in finding him. The betrayal by her adopted father slowed this down, but didn't in any way deter her from it. Corrine was difficult for me. She, like Hunter, has been through so much, maybe even more due to repeated betrayals by Victor. However, she does things, such as forcing Hunter to drink from her to help find her son while bonding him to her, that make her less sympathetic. She lies to him, pushes him away and then is surprised when he doesn't talk to her. I liked her a little better by the end, but she won't ever be my favorite character of the series.

The ending of this book was such a cliffhanger to the next one, it was off putting. While I would of course read the next one (Sterling Chase), I am not a fan of stories that end seemingly in the middle of a chapter, which is what this seemed like. Nathan's storyline also ended that same way, just an open door to a new book, but that seemed less aggressively done than this. A slightly irritating ending to a very well done book.

I wanted this book to be so much more because I have been obsessed with Hunter from his first appearance, so I'm sorry to say that I was disappointed...

She was this plain and boring girl who never reacted too strong to anything. Was it too much to ask? I wanted one of those strong heroines who knows what they want in life and make me laugh out loud with those witty and ingenious comments. This girl was way too shy and average, and the only thing I can remember about her was that she wanted to rescue her child ... that was the only memorable thing about her and it's not even something that really describes her as a person, I mean yes it lets us know she is a great mother and someone who would do anything for those she loves, but I need much more to get to love a heroine.

The plot was great though, but it could have been better. It was kinda more of the same. I think the author got too much into the plot and forgot a bit about the main characters. Too much pages used to describe a plot that just got nowhere. There were not many important changes if there was even one. Dragos is still on the loose and trying to kill all the members of the Breed. I don't know, I guess I just wanted more from this series.

I just want the series to go back to what it use to be. I miss those book where we got to read about great heroines with their own lives. I loved to read how their lives make a dramatic change once they met the hero. I need the author to go back to describe better the heroine. In the last books the heroines just felt like an addition of the hero. I want more for them. And with the heroine of this book I think it was just too much. The girl was really not heroine material. I also need a change, I mentioned this in the previous book and I still think the same. This series just got too predictable.

With next book this definitely can be achieved so I hope the author realizes this and make some mayor changes to the series.(less)

Deeper than Midnight picks up the story just after the ending of Taken by Midnight, Corinne and the other Breedmates have just been rescued by the Order from Dragos' lair and are still struggling to come to terms with the torture they have suffered for years. Corinne was his captive for 75 years and doesn't recognise the world she now finds herself in, she is desperate to see her family but scared that they will have forgotten her and nervous about how they will react when they find out what she has been through. Hunter was bred by Dragos from the ancient and raised as a lethal killer so he more than anyone else knows what Dragos is capable of. When he is given the task of returning Corinne to her family he finds himself inexplicably drawn to her but has no idea how to deal with his attraction.

I have been a massive fan of the Midnight Breed series for several years now so I can't tell you how excited I was to get my hands on the latest installment! I feels like I've been waiting for Hunter's story forever so I couldn't start reading fast enough. Lara Adrian is my favourite author so be prepared for a bit of a fan girl review, she writes fabulous romances and the ongoing story arc about the Order and Dragos is full of suspense and intrigue that has me on the edge of my seat.

Corinne has suffered unimaginable torture during the years that Dragos held her captive, the worst by far being the loss of her son who was taken from her moments after her birth. The only thing that kept her sane was the thought that one day she might be able to see him again and now she is free she is determined to track him down so they can finally be together. She will do whatever it takes to find him but she is unsure of who she can trust to help her. She is also desperate to see her family again but after finding out that they thought she was dead she is nervous about how they will react when they see her again. Corinne hopes that they will be able to help her find her son but would never have guessed at the reaction she gets when they see her.

Hunter was raised by Dragos as a killing machine, as a Gen One Breed male he is strong, fast and powerful and he was trained from a young age to block out all emotion and focus on the task at hand. Since he was freed and joined the Order he has focused single mindedly on bringing Dragos down and killing anyone who is in league with him. He comes across as cold and emotionless but that is down to his upbringing, it was seen as a weakness to have feelings and Dragos would not tolerate weakness of any kind. Hunter is drawn to Corinne but he doesn't know how to deal with the feelings that she brings out in him, when it comes to love Hunter is as naive and innocent as they come but he can't deny his attraction.

I loved watching Hunter and Corinne together, they both had terrible pasts but in their own ways are quite innocent, they are well suited to each other and make a great couple. We get to see plenty of the rest of the Order and life in the compound which I loved. Tess and Dante have some exciting news and let me just say that Dante stole my heart all over again (you'll have to read the book to find out why!). Dragos has been busy plotting against the Order and the warriors find themselves at greater risk than ever before, the action had me on the edge of my seat with my heart in my mouth and I'm still worried about how things will play out in the next few books. The scene has been set nicely for Chase's story, he has always been my least favourite character in the series, I'm not sure why but I never really took to him. I have to admit that my opinion has changed and I'm now really looking forward to his book.

I had hoped to find out more about the changes taking place with Jenna but there was so much going on that I didn't really think about that until after I'd finished reading. The story is fast paced and action packed and I'm sure it will satisfy fans of the series. I will warn you that the ending almost killed me - I can't believe I've got to wait a whole year to find out what happens next! Believe me this is one you don't want to miss but make sure you've read the rest of the series before picking it up - once you're drawn into the world Lara Adrian has created you won't want to leave it.(less)

I really LOVE this series!! It's always been a favorite of mine! However this one wasn't a favorite. It was good..just not great,like the others have been. For me, the excitement..meaning the action and suspense AND the typical level of steaminess just wasn't present as in past books. :(

Having said that..i did really like Hunter.. he was def. YUM...a typical bad ass breed like the rest of them..if not more so and it was nice to see him become more "human" than "machine" because of the heroine. S...more

Deeper than Midnight exceeded any and all of my expectations! I wasn’t too thrilled with the last installment, Brock and Jenna’s story, it fell flat in my opinion and I felt there was a lot left open there… and still is... Then when it came to Hunter…how do you have interest and connect to a character that is seemly emotionless?

Well, Deeper than Midnight took me for a total 180 in that respect. Lara Adrian opened up all kind of facets in Hunter's character, giving him depth, dimension and an intensity that sucked me right in.
In an early twist we come to find out the Corinne has a son that she is determined to find, realizing that she can’t do it on her own she puts her trust in Hunter and never regrets it. The journey these two embark on is dark, sensual and heartwarming; both tortured souls in need of peace and they find this in each other. The romance between Hunter and Corinne was gradual and realistic, giving each time to accept new feelings and grow with them. They turned out to be a perfect match, balancing each other well. Corinne shows Hunter that he is more than just a well bred killing machine and in return, Hunter proves to Corinne that there is more in the world then the pain and torment she has endured for the last 75 years; namely love…

The plot flowed seamlessly, never allowing for distraction, with plenty of action. The sub-plot of Chase’s growing addiction and loss of control was deep and left me craving for his story. Along with the suspense of the Order’s fate, I was turning the pages wishing it wouldn’t come to an end. Some happy news for another Breed couple was woven into the story and I also loved getting back into the heads of my favorite couple, Lucan and Gabriel.

How Adrian penned such a sweet, yet dark, tale is beyond me but she has succeeded masterfully. Wonderfully recommended; if you haven’t picked up one of Lara Adrian’s novels then you must do so immediately, you won’t regret it!

This one was a pretty decent read. I wasn't sure what to think of Corrine Bishop as the heroine of this story after the horrible nightmare she went through for over seventy-five years. Although, things with her and Hunter did seem a bit rushed, I still enjoyed the story. It seemed as though there were a great deal more side stories in this one which kind of took away from the two lovers. I know those "side-stories" were important for the over all arc of the series but it just lessend the time we...more

I thoroughly enjoyed Deeper Than Midnight. Loved getting to know Hunter and Corinne and their, albeit short, journey to love and trust. I do wish there had been more to their story. It just seemed a bit quick, and lacked a bit of detail regarding Corinne's sudden thrust back into the real world and Hunter's quickly evolving emotions. But that is to be expected with the continuation of the war and conflict story-line between Dragos and the Order which is getting more and more complicated...more

The book started good but then went downhill from there. The first half I'd rate 3 - 3.5 stars. I liked the earlier parts with Hunter and Corine. Just finished this one and holy crap! That was one hell of an ending!! Loved seeing Hunter and Corrine's story play out although I had moments where I wanted to shake her. Both have experienced so much pain and had no real love from anyone. Can't wait to read Chase's story. That was another, well ok there were several from him in this one, holy crap and omgosh moments. Worried about our Chase aka Sterling aka Harvard. :) Nice to see this series back on track so to speak.

As usual another great book. I thought the beginning had too much about Chase, but by the end of the book and the way it ended it was a necessary part of the book.

I loved Corrine and Hunter together. All that sexual tension in the beginning. When Hunter sees Corrine in the bath and realizes parts of his body are responding, that was just too funny. But the first time they were actually together was just so sweet. I loved them as a couple.

I'd give this more of a 3.5 or 3.75, but I'm just being picky.
I actually enjoyed Hunter's character. His moments with Corinne were interesting, but there was just too little of them. The Midnight Breed series has always had a lot of action and this book is no exception to that. Unfortunately, the action is starting to take over the whole book. I felt like I didn't have enough time with the main characters because there was so much time spent building up to future books.

4.5 stars only compare to other books within this series, otherwise, a solid 5 stars. I love this series. The plots pulled my interest and yearned for HEA's and at the same time cringed at the challenges ahead. The fast pace, full of action balanced with the achingly sweet lovestory, what not to love?

It's a great feeling when you have a book in your hands and just hate when you reached the end of the book and can't wait for the next one. Yeah...that's what I got with this series.

I liked the 1st half of this book, but the second half was a disaster.
The start of the book was actually good and I enjoyed reading it.I especially liked the part where Hunter starts having desires for Corinne but never having felt any such emotion, he feels ashamed of himself.This part was understandable and was important because the way Hunter had been brought up,emotions were not a part of his life,especially desires so it was expected.

Okay, I put off reading Deeper Than Midnight when it first came out because from the reviews I'd read everyone had been so disappointed in Hunter's romance. So,going in with low expections, I actually really ended up liking this. I wasn't wowed by Corrine, but even though she was pretty thin characterwise, she wasn't awful. Yes, she had an agenda in finding her son, but I still believed that she came to care for Hunter.

Also it helped that I can ignore a so-so heroine, I am exceedingly hero-centric and I wasn't disappointed in Hunter at all. There really was enough development and insight of his character to humanize him and I liked how he started actually having feelings. And I especially loved the bit at the end with him and Corrine's son and Hunter's comment about home - you just know that he's going to cherish his family and protect it with all of his heart - and lethal skills.

As to Chase, it was hard to see him in a tailspin and coming periously close to blood lust but I didn't find Chase's devolution as hard to take as Phury's (it helped that Chase wasn't the main character). I thought that Chase's parts of the story actually ended up being a good setup for his book, and I saw his noble sacrifice at the end as a positive sign that there was still hope for him. I also found his heroine, Tavia, even the little bit she was in the book, to be intriguing.

There were some things that were nits for me, nothing too major, but I think that I would have liked Deeper Than Midnight a bit better if the last chapters had been swapped. I would have rather ended with Hunter's 'home' comment, instead of ending with Chase's cliffhanger -it would have made the book feel more finished.

At any rate, spoilers can be your friend - or at least they can be mine - so I was surprised that I ended up liking Deeper Than Midnight better than several of the last few books and I am really looking forward to reading the end of the series arc and seeing Dragos finally get what's coming to him - Chase's book is in the mail as I type, so holding off on this one actually worked for me so. Lucky me, I don't have long to wait.(less)

I found it difficult to get over the fact that Hunter, who until very recently didn't know shit from Shinola when it came to emotions, felt certain he loved Corinne just because he spent a couple of nights rolling between the sheets with her. He seemed more like a lovestruck virgin to me.
