Though I am only about half-way through the book, I have seemed to lose interest. I take issue with the story. I can understand how the lead character and his brother are from a region that is sort of isolated from the greater cities and realms up north, but even through their journey and stops in cities and towns, there is no sense of urgency in the people around them that this evil dark lord is coming. You would think that such impending doom for the realm would have people up in arms. Instead...more

If you are a reader who loves fantasy and have not read the Sword of Shannara series you are missing out. Terry Brooks is an amazing writer. I learned to love reading and writing by reading books like this. I read this when I was 10 years old and loved it. I still find it a fantastic read today!

Brooks creates a narrative experience that is engaging and intriguing. I am not particularly moved by his charcterizations, but he depicts a world that has me eager to explore more. Wishsong is on my list of to-reads!

I used to REALLY enjoy this series, but my taste (particularly in Fantasy) has changed. Thanks George R. R. Martin. This is a good series to introduce young adult readers to who enjoy fantasy stories.

This was a very good book which I had fun reading. The book is very unpredictable, adventourouse, and interesting. The book does start off very slow, but it does move fast when it is into the main part of the story. The only problem is that it is a very hard book to read, and it took me a while to read it. I highly recommend it to people whoare looking for a chalanging and adventurous book.
Lily
Not as good as The Sword of Shannara, but still quite an enjoyable read. The one thing that made me like this book less than the first book was the extended battle scenes.

This is in reference to the "The Elfstones of Shannara" since I can not find it and no longer own the stand alone book.
Carrie
Good story, too many words. I get really tired of wasted words. Just my opinion, I know other people like it.

It's a lot easier to read than LOTR. It's kinda funny having read the LOTR and Harry Potter books... I see so many similarities between them all. It's still fun though. My favorite so far was the description of the gates to the Kings Tomb... it's the exact description of the sign on screen to World of Warcraft. :-)

The final battle seemed abrupt, but I'm quite glad they didn't kill off my favorite character. Too bad for Hendel and Keltset, though.

Can't wait to start "Elfstones."

I absolutely love these books! They are like the perfect combination of suspense, action, occasional romance, and thrill. They are so amazing! Terry Brooks is a genius!!!! I highly recommend these! It looks boring, but don't judge a book by its cover! You won't regret it!

You can see in this novel how Brooks's writing has matured since Sword, and he's added a lot more of his own ideas to his plot. While still following a classic quest formula, the ideas were completely original to me, and captivating. I enjoyed this novel on a personal level, what with the elves and protectorate trees and riding birds!

Don't bother reading this book, its a waste of time. Read the Lord of the Rings instead, same story line with much much better writing.

I finished it about 4 months ago and to be honest, I would not recommend this book to anyone. The characters were static and the plot was extremely slow moving. Very predictable. More of an adolescent type read.
Sandra (I don't read, I devour.)
I got so sick of this book that I remember finishing it at lunch and throwing it out the window of my car... just to get rid of it. Loved the beginning but it should have been about 300 pages shorter.
Christine
Not sure where I got this book - or why it is catching my attention. But, I already know who I am giving it to when I am done reading it.

Fantasy/Adventure
Fun series.
I can't remember a lot of it, and I do get some of it mixed up with Lord of the rings.
Ed
A ripoff of J.R.R. Tolkien. Leaves big holes in plot. Thought I would enjoy this one but didn't.

He went to college and received his undergraduate degree from Hamilton College, where he majored in English Literature, and he received...more
