Though I am only about half-way through the book, I have seemed to lose interest. I take issue with the story. I can understand how the lead character and his brother are from a region that is sort of isolated from the greater cities and realms up north, but even through their journey and stops in cities and towns, there is no sense of urgency in the people around them that this evil dark lord is coming. You would think that such impending doom for the realm would have people up in arms. Instead...more

If you are a reader who loves fantasy and have not read the Sword of Shannara series you are missing out. Terry Brooks is an amazing writer. I learned to love reading and writing by reading books like this. I read this when I was 10 years old and loved it. I still find it a fantastic read today!

This was a very good book which I had fun reading. The book is very unpredictable, adventourouse, and interesting. The book does start off very slow, but it does move fast when it is into the main part of the story. The only problem is that it is a very hard book to read, and it took me a while to read it. I highly recommend it to people whoare looking for a chalanging and adventurous book.

It's a lot easier to read than LOTR. It's kinda funny having read the LOTR and Harry Potter books... I see so many similarities between them all. It's still fun though. My favorite so far was the description of the gates to the Kings Tomb... it's the exact description of the sign on screen to World of Warcraft. :-)
The final battle seemed abrupt, but I'm quite glad they didn't kill off my favorite character. Too bad for Hendel and Keltset, though.
Can't wait to start "Elfstones."

First book not so interesting but I finished it. The Elfstones though was quite enjoyable reading.
You can see in this novel how Brooks's writing has matured since Sword, and he's added a lot more of his own ideas to his plot. While still following a classic quest formula, the ideas were completely original to me, and captivating. I enjoyed this novel on a personal level, what with the elves and protectorate trees and riding birds!
Don't bother reading this book, its a waste of time. Read the Lord of the Rings instead, same story line with much much better writing.
