It's not *that* dark...

Victoria Kingston's early life hasn't been easy. Following the death and her mother and suicide of her father, it's up to her to take care of her younger sister. With no money and choice, they are forced to move to London to stay with a resentful aunt. Giving her an impossible ultimatum to marry a random suitor by the end of the month, Victoria tries her best to find a suitable gentlemen, or she surely will lose guardianship of her sister forever.

Crossing paths with Doria...more

Normally I tend to stay away from Regency romances because the heroines are under such societal restrictions, it just makes my blood boil and the old left eye twitch. Victoria proved to be a wonderful exception. Although she understood the need for a possible loveless marriage, she went about it in a very intelligent and practical manner. She was no whimpering miss. Victoria took a lot of HARD knocks and handled them with grace, dignity and intelligence. I greatly admired her resilience and her...more
Quick Take: Despite feeling like the language (mostly the dialogue) was something of an odd fit, I did enjoy this historical romance's main characters and premise.

When I first read the premise for this book, I knew I had to read it. It's just the type of romantic dilemma that I find engaging: does one marry for love or for money...and are both possible? The book did not disappoint, as I was kept engaged throughout. But the three paragraphs noted in the book description are only part of th...more

I commend the author, Amanda J Greene for her work, Caressed By Moonlight. This is great work for a debut novel. Caressed by Moonlight combines historical romance with paranormal, for a new spin on a vampire romance novel. The story is set in Regency England, with the main character, Dorian, visiting London to throw off hunters, witches, who seek to kill Dorian’s clan. Victoria is a lovely heroine, literally and figuratively....more

This was such a good book! Victoria has lost both of her parents and had to sell everything to take care of her fathers debts. She shows up at her hated aunts house with her little sister. Her aunt gives her a month to be married or shell be kicked out and won't be able to ever see her sister again. Her friend Lana starts taking her to balls to introduce her to a potential husband. Victoria meets prince Dorian who is a actually a vampire king. Witches are killing off Dorian's clan and he's come...more
Really liked this book and the start of a new series. I didn't connect with the characters like I was hoping to but I still enjoyed it a lot. Victoria just plain got on my nerves. Just when I thought I couldn't stand her anymore, the table is turned and Dorian is the one being dense. There isn't a dull moment while reading this and a few parts that made me laugh out loud.

DNFed by page 50. Poorly executed and not well edited. The over the top cliched evil aunt was ridiculous and the throwing out of vampire made up myths did nothing to keep me interested.

The attraction between the heroine who must marry within a month and the dark, brooding-light vampire hero fell flat.
"The little kitten has claws," Dorian said intrigued. "I like that."~Dorian Vlakhos

I am so in love with this book. I will admit, the cover gave me pause. I'm just glad I did'nt allow me to miss out on such an amazing book. I have found yet another "sex in motion" type of male lead in Dorian Vlakhos. He is perfectly written, perfect within his flaws. He is a cursed Vampire King who is on a mission to save his people. Around town, however, he's known as the aristocrat with a very naughty reputati...more

Every now and then you come across a book that is the first in the series and it’s so good you want to kick yourself for reading it. Not because it wasn’t good, because you think to yourself well damn now I have to wait a whole year to read about these characters again. Caressed by Moonlight is one of those books for me.

Amanda J. Greene has created a world in Caressed by Moonlight that you can really sink your teeth into. Set in 1814 England for most of the book, I honestly could envision all o...more
Victoria has nothing left in this world but her little sister Margaret. Unfortunately, their guardian, Aunt Nelly, is threatening to take even that away from her. Aunt Nelly despises Victoria and tells her that unless she is able to find and marry a rich man by the end of the month, Margaret will be taken from her. So Victoria begins her search, only to find that she is frustrated. She meets Prince Dorian who seems to want her, but she wants nothing to do with him. One night Aunt Nelly sees the...more
This is the first book in the Masters of Darkness series by Amanda Greene. It is indeed an impressive work for a new author and first book. The story is a paranormal adult romance with vampires as the primary characters but not the only supernatural beings. We also have shifters and witches.
The story begins with our heroine, Victoria Kingston. Her parents have died and left her without enough money to raise her sister. She turns to an aunt that lives in London with the hope she would provide fo...more

Her voice brushed chills down his spine. He was afraid to turn around, to look upon her. His muscles clenched as he stood perfectly still.

“Yes?” he asked, his throat dry. His cold heart tightened as he listened to her cross the floor. She stood behind him, he could feel her, smell her, taste her. She placed a warm, small, thin hand on his shoulder and he shuddered.

Victoria came up to her tiptoes; leaned against his hard back, and lightly whispered, “Make love to me.”

Amazing debut by Amanda J. Greene! Supernatural Romance readers will find a new vampire to swoon over, Dorian Vlakhos, the King of the Mylonas Clan!

1814. Victoria and her little sister Margaret arrive in London after their mother died of illness and their father took his own life after losing his wife. They are homeless and penniless, and in the mercy of their Aunt who despises Victoria and her mother - which is why she has her own terms for their stay, Margaret will stay with her and Victoria h...more

Romancing the Dark Side Review:

Two worlds collide for a sizzling historical romance with a paranormal twist!

Victorian Kingston is a young woman who has become orphaned and left with a younger sister in her care. When she moves in with her spinster aunt, Victoria is given one month to find a suitable husband if she is to see her sister Margaret again. She enlists the help of her good friend Lana in her quest for a husband, who introduces her to fancy balls and London society. It's there where sh...more

Not really a fan of historical books, i went into reading Caressed by Moonlight with some trepidation. The fact that its hero was vampire swayed me. And am i glad it did sway me, because the debut novel from Amanda J Greene is a wonderful piece of work. Caressed by Moonlight, the first book in the Rulers of Darkness series centres around Victoria, who having lost both parents, penniless and with a young sister to care for is told by a crabby old aunt that if she wishes to cont...more

Caressed by Moonlight is Amanda J. Greene’s first novel. It is also the first in a series called Rulers of Darkness. I love reading new authors and finding a new series to fall in love with. This first book sent me on a rollercoaster of emotions. I found myself on the edge of my seat at times, angry at the bad guys at others, weeping like a baby, and of course I fell helplessly in love with Dorian the hero.
I have a love for paranormal romance that has action sprinkled throughout the entire stor...more

(4.5 star - Top Pick, review written by Talina Perkins for Night Owl Reviews)

Before reading Caressed by Moonlight I had forgotten how much I love historical romance. Amanda J. Greene has returned my love for bodices and dancing while giving me so much more. I have a strong love for paranormal romance that has spice sprinkled throughout the entire story and Ms. Greene added the right amount of vampires with a strong sex appeal and an alpha could resist! This book is definitely one...more

This was all sorts of awesomeness! I'm working on a review...

And here it is...

I had originally read an excerpt from Caressed By Moonlight (see below for the excerpt) and just based on that I knew I wanted to read this book. I hadn't previously read any historical romance books, but I knew I would like it.

Well it turns out I didn't like it.....I loved it!! I was completely engrossed in the story and read it in a day! This book is historical paranormal romance but there's also some edge of your se...more
Orphaned and left penniless after she ends up having to sell everything she owns to cover her father’s debts, Victoria Kingston finds herself traveling to London with her little sister in tow. She ends up on her aunt’s doorstep, detested by the very woman because of the fact that she resembles the woman whom, by her standards, bewitched her brother and caused him to leave everything he’d ever known behind.

Her aunt makes it clear that she’s not welcome, but she’s more than willing to take her sis...more

This one was fun. You get to mingle the intricacies of a historical romance (those poor girls back then had a lot of rules to follow, you know) with the fun, sometimes brutal, nearly always sexy paranormal romance genre. Vampires in high society! I love it.

I really liked how single minded Victoria was. She knew what she had to do to keep her sister safe and she set out to do it. Yes, it was distasteful to her to be so mercenary but she couldn't walk away and leave her sister in her Aunt's grasp....more
This goes up there with my other favorite Vampire novels. This is a story of a woman named Victoria and a Vampire named Dorian. The author starts off by telling Victoria's life first and then interwining Dorian's life and there life together. The book had alot of good vilians that implied maybe more to come in the future books!! The story was not your typical woman falling for a Vampire. She is actually faced with a dilemma. I read the book straight through in 1 day!! The authors writing had me...more

The Aunt demands that if Victoria wants to keep custody of her sister, then she must marry in thirty days’ time otherwise Victoria’s sister will remain with the aunt and her cruel behaviors.

I loved this book and the difficulties the characters have to face. Victoria and her little sister have been settled into there aunts house. And right away the aunt makes Victoria her place in her house, which is lower than a spec of dust. Soon though the aunt and Vicky make a deal: if she can get a husband for the end of the month Victoria gets to keep her sister; if she can't then the aunt gets to keep her and she wont be able to see her ever. So Victoria and her friend go husband hunting. The...more

I received this book from the author and from Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock.
Caressed by Moonlight is the first book in the Rulers of Darkness series.
Victoria Kingston lost her parents and was forced to sell everything she had to pay off her father's left behind debt. No longer able to provide for her younger sister Margaret, they had to move from their country home. The only place she could turn to was her cruel aunt. Her aunt hates her and her mother blaming them for destroying her b...more

I have to say after all the hype, this book was just okay for me. This bummed me out because it had all the right ingredients to be the perfect read for me. Historical & Paranormal all meshed into one. I actually liked the beginning of this book better than the end. The sexual heat and chemistry was nice and smoldering in the beginning of the book but honestly the resolution all happened too quick and then it just kind of got boring for me.

This story is about so much more than just a typical paranormal romance. Life and death, love and loss, family and friends, war and betrayal are all integral parts of the tale. I was enchanted by the world that Greene created. It was vivid and larger than life, yet well placed in London’s ton scene. As with many first novels in a series it takes a while to get into the story while the author takes us deep into the world that she’s created. Greene sets the scene well for this world, setting reade...more
