I am new to Alex Kava and her Maggie O'Dell heroine, an FBI profiler and forensic expert. I usually avoid female authors in this genre (with the exception of Patricia Cornwell in the past and still Sue Grafton) because they always work in someone's thighs along the way. The author's name "Alex" threw me off. As I was reading along, there came those thighs. I skipped to the "About the Author" section and, sure enough, I had a female author on my hands. I love the Maggie O'Dell series, and I love the fact that Alex Kava is not afraid to take serious risks with her characters, even when it might not be popular with her fans. She does what's true for Maggie, and I sincerely admire that!
