This series just doesn't get old for me. I read it over and over.
Some of her other books(like the Psi changeling) are good and some are not; either way and I can do without them.
But the Guild Hunters story is the best one ever.
Raphael is very unique and the storyline so far has been extremely satisfying.
So next spring will be a very happy time for me. For a few hours at least.

I read the first two installments of this series and I thought they were okay; not my favorites but okay. It bothered me that Elena and Raphael wanted to screw each other's bones all the goddamn time had so much sex and if they weren't going at it like rabbits, they were thiking about it. I mean, there's only so much gratuitous sex scenes that always take the same turn of events, before it gets old.

The only excuse I have for taking so long to read this book is that I started college and don't have much free time. And the fact that Facebook has taken over my life.

However, now that I am finished, I have to say that I still love this series. The story was awesome and I love all the characters (for the most part). Also, I love seeing the relationship between Raphael and Elena develop and become deeper and deeper with every page.

This is my third adventure into the wonderful world of Archangel's by Nalini Singh and I must say she has officially become one of my favorite authors. This author truly stays true to her world building and I love the series so much that it has become one of my favorites.

Loved this so much better than the first time. I just love how Nalini takes us into Elena's mind to the point that you feel her pain and joy. I also read a piece of fluff during the reread and when I came back I was like ahhh this is what descriptive writing should be. Gave it a star bump after this read. :o)

Archangel's Consort was far from perfect with it's superfluous sex scenes and slow build up to an uncertain and frankly lack lustre ending. It pains me to say all of that because Nalini Singh is one of my favourite authors with her Psy-Changeling books being my favourite paranormal romance series. My disloyalty is blasphemous but it needs to be said.

So I'm a little on the fence about these books. While definitely this series is excellent, and this installment I found to be excellent too. I'm still sort of feeling like the first book is my favorite. While there is still a plot in each book and it's a little slower in the past two books for a reason.... I kind of miss all the action a little bit. I mean I'm not complaining about all the heat in the past two books but I could miss a few scenes if there was so more going on.

Another excellent entry in Singh's Guild Hunter series. I wonder if she plans to expand the series to include some of the other angels? I would love to read about Raphael's Seven.

I love the evolution of Raphael and Elena's relationship. I think Raphael becomes just a shade more human with each book, which makes him easier to relate to. He's still the same cold being he was in the first book, but he's softened where Elena is concerned.

This was the start of many horrifying events that young vampires committed throughout the book. These vampires were being influenced by a very pow...more Elena has returned to New York to find that things aren't as she remembered them to be. She and Raphael come home and her first visit into public is to investigate a vampire attack at a private school where her two half-sisters go. This vampire brutalized and killed two children because he was told Raphael was gone and there would be no repercussions. This was the start of many horrifying events that young vampires committed throughout the book. These vampires were being influenced by a very powerful being, and some were being forced to do these horrific acts. This outbreak also co-in-sided with the awakening of an Ancient Archangel.

This book also held a lot of personal things for Elena. She found out quite a few secrets about her families history, and one of them was just shocking. Her father was his usually jack-ass self, and I can't wait for the day when they have a no holds barred verbal fight. It makes me so angry and sad for Elena whenever she talks to her father I just wish she could just put it all out there and either reconcile or cut each other out of their lives. We also got to see more of Elena's half-sisters which I enjoyed because it got to show a positive family connection that had never existed before.

Elena also was forced to realize that everything has changed for her. People no longer look at her the same way as she was. She is no longer the strongest Guild Hunter, and now she must hold secrets because her allegiance is to her archangel. This is especially painful for Elena because the Guild is really the only home she has ever known, and it's a shock for her to discover that she might not completely belong there anymore.

Something I really enjoyed about this book was learning about some of Raphael's Seven. These characters are amazing and I can't wait to find out each of their stories. Because it seemed that almost all of them got a some tidbit of personal information leaked in this book. I really hope she writes books about Illium, Jason, and Aodhan. I think all three of these have big issues that I can't wait to unravel. I also liked to see Elena growing with some of the Seven, though I still can't understand her relationship with Dmitiri at times it seems as if he wants to kill her, at others he seems to enjoy her. This was another great addition to the series and I can't wait to see what happens next. (less)

There is still a big bad angelic bogeyman, or in this case the threat of one, hanging over the heads of Elena and Raphael. But this books is very much abou...more Some books are easy to review. And I very much enjoyed it...even though it was nothing like what I expected.

I guess the best way to say it is that this one was more...intimate...than the others. There is still a big bad angelic bogeyman, or in this case the threat of one, hanging over the heads of Elena and Raphael. But this books is very much about their relationship, and how they are "settling in". These two loners, two warriors, are completely committed to each other, but they are still learning to lean on each other, to trust each other, and that is what this book was about for me.

I have heard some people say they found this book to be a bit slow, or wonder how many times Raphael would almost go quiet again only to be pulled back by Elena. Or how many times the nightmares from Elena's past would almost swamp her. But I found that was the story...the almosts. Just when things got to be their worst, Raphael and Elena turned to each other, used the strength of their Consort, to fight their battles. And each time they turned to each other, their relationship grew stronger. There are still major periods of adjustment for both. Raphael has rarely, if ever, had to answer to another living being, and Elena is not used to being physically vulnerable at all, but they are finding their way through.

And while I very much enjoyed the growing relationship of Elena and Raphael, as always the Seven demanded their share of my attention. Of course, Illium and Dmitri are complete scene stealers, but the surprise here was Aodhan. He is more present, and more intriguing, than in any either of the previous books, and Jason too is coming more into the storyline. The small glimpses we had of them left me wanting more.

So, was this book the big-battle story I had thought? Nope. It was almost smaller in scale, and gave me much more insight into Raphael and Elena, and I very glad for that. (less)

Out of all the Guild Hunter books, this is the one that I cared for the least. It was dull and unimaginative. And it pains me to say that because I typically enjoy Nalini Singh’s work.

My Thoughts:
Out of all the Guild Hunter books, this is the one that I cared for the least. It was dull and unimaginative. And it pains me to say that because I typically enjoy Nalini Singh’s work.

Throughout the story, we learn that Elena’s youngest half-sister, Eve, is also hunter-born. This revelation was startling enough but even more so was that the hunter-born gene came from her father…the same man who abhorred the trait in her. But fortunately for Eve, Jeffrey is not so eager to discard her as he once did Elena. More on the family front, Elena’s sister, Beth, is distraught because the angels turned her down as a suitable vampire candidate. Their rejection of her was merited because her genetic make-up was such that she would have either died immediately or become crazed after her turning. Beth, in a very whiny and manipulative manner, implores Elena to intercede on her behalf to the angels. She played on Elena’s love for her family by telling her “I’ll die, Ellie. I’ll die and you’ll still be alive.” Elena’s family treated her with such disregard and indifference; however, all she did was to go out of her way to make sure that her family was safe and protected. That facet of the story was quite sad.

The story was painfully anticlimactic. The whole premise of this story was that Raphael’s mother, Caliane, was “coming for him”. She was millennia’s old and had placed herself into a deep sleep. Because of her ancient nature, her awakening caused strange weather events throughout the world and caused the vampires in Raphael’s territory to act heinously against themselves and mortals. The reader is lead to believe that it is all because of Caliane. (view spoiler). My primary issue with the story is that Lijuan should have been dispatched in Archangel's Kiss (Guild Hunter, #2). She created a horde of reanimated corpses and the ending of that story, also anticlimactic, has her fading into a new plane of non-corporeal existence. She began this story as non-corporeal but was able to gain her corporeal form at will. She even has tea with Raphael at his estate home. Excuse me...Maybe I blacked out while reading both of these books…but HELLO…Lijuan is evil, right?!?! Undead army...reanimating the vampire who murdered Elena’s family...ring any bells? So then WHY, in the name of all that is pure and good, is Raphael having tea with her like she is an old friend? Seriously?!?! Some attempt should have been made to try to eliminate her the minute she became corporeal. But sadly, no…and because of that, she wreaks havoc in this city…even though Raphael doesn’t know it at the time.

The “fight” scene between Caliane and Lijuan was yawn-worthy. Lack luster and dull are two words that come to mind. These are the two most powerful archangels in the world but their battle was completely unimaginative and trite. I was expecting more than a few lightning bolts. That scene could have made the story but it was so anemic that I basically glossed over it. Raphael, who is a baby compared to Caliane and Lijuan, is able to damage Lijuan in a way that his millenia’s old mother could not. Believable? No! He should have been killed from Lijuan’s lightning bolt blast but the “mortality” he gained from his pairing with Elena allowed him to survive. Believable? Again….no! In a half-hearted attempt Singh attempted to explain how his mortality made Raphael stronger but I found it to be lacking the potency of a reasonable explanation.

The conclusion was really an anti-conclusion. Lijuan is STILL “ALIVE”. She is even participating in a Cadre meeting deliberating on Caliane’s presence in the world. Excuse me...This woman, just a few pages earlier, attempted to kill Raphael and his consort………does no one but me find it bizarre that she is once again welcomed as a contributing member of the Cadre?!?! I understand that archangels are difficult to kill but the fact that Lijuan was allowed to flit in and out of not one, but two stories, went beyond reasonable. The state of Caliane’s sanity was another unresolved issue. We don’t know whether she will be a friend or a foe. Her status could have been left unresolved for a reason but there were just too many in the story already.

I started off loving with series. But, unfortunately, each successive book after the first caused me to care even less about any of the characters. Sadly, this book is another example of a good series gone bad.(less)

Nalini is always a favorite. I loved all the attention that was spent on building Elena and Raphael's relationship. And yet we got to see so much of Raphael's Seven. Great book.

And I must say two thumbs WAY up to the section on how angels dance. Fabulous writing.

Archangel's Consort is the third book of the series and they seem to be getting better with each book. Raphael (though he is very sexy) was so cold, arrogant, and unemotional in the 1st book that it was hard to believe he was willing to die with Elena instead of saving himself. I knew he was attracted to her and enjoyed making love to her but I just didn't quite get it until he was willing to die with her.

The best decision that I made this August was to re-read the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh. As I said the first time I read this book, “Archangel’s Consort” is AMAZING!!!

The story takes us back to New York and Elena now is going to see her beloved ones. Of course, a new danger is lies ahead. From the beginning there was an undeniable attraction simmering between Raphael and Elena and this had not diminished in any way in Archangels Consort. Next to their deepening relationship they both have to deal with family issues as well. From the get-go I fell hard for the synergy between Raphael and Elena. Their dialogues are full of wit and barbs, their personalities clashing at times in dominance and the sensual vibe is like a live wire between them. Over the course of the evolving storyline I witnessed their trials and tribulations, their strength, vulnerabilities and flaws, but at the foundation a love grew that encompassed them wholly.

In Archangel's Consort, Nalini Singh demonstrates how utterly good she is at bringing characters to life and exploring their personalities. Raphael is a male character who isn’t quite the anti hero nor “just” one who can be branded an Alpha, he transcends these character type’s with his attitude that is born from his ancient age and view on life. He is without a doubt “other”. He is an Archangel who makes me shiver with all of his personality traits and each reader should experience his personality first hand to understand what makes Raphael, Raphael.

To be the love interest of such an Archangel takes quite a woman but Elena holds her ground in her own unique way. She knows how to get through to Raphael when he goes all Archangel attitude and makes him more accessible to the softer side of emotions. Even though Elena has a strong backbone, even when she goes all warrior woman, she also is a sensuous woman and has her vulnerabilities. It is the sensual and emotional interplay between them as a couple that shows this the most. This story definitely created room for the romance part, for conflicts and the fiery passion that often set the pages ablaze. When two angels choose to dance the skies it is a sight to behold!

The one thing that was subdued was the mystery. Practically up front did I know what was going on and it lessened the thrill of the suspense. It made certain events less dangerous and I missed the one-two punch Nalini Singh can deliver when romance and suspense work as one and I can’t read fast enough to know what’s happening. Of course I did get a few small surprises in the end, creating possibilities for future installments but in this story it was the interpersonal relationships that did it for me.

Next to murders, some dangers, romance and challenges there was also Raphael’s Seven. Each of these Seven is a compelling and intriguing character but like many avid readers of this series I have my favorites. My heart skips a beat with the uber powerful vampire Dmitri, I have a wicked grin on my face whenever Illium aka Bluebell, enters the stage, my curiosity is piqued with Aodhan, but it is Jason who yanks all of my chains. In this installment Nalini Singh tantalizes me with small snippets of mystery revolving his, and many other characters, from the Seven. I can’t wait for her to start writing up their stories!!

Nalini Singh’s is one of the powerhouse authors who rule in the Urban-Fantasy genre. Her imaginative writing never fails to invite me into her dynamic world. I get to go on adventures with her characters, enjoy the temperamental dialogues and feel every single shred of emotions sizzling between them! Archangel’s Consort was a wonderful return again to the Guild Hunter world!

It takes me a little while to get into the world again -- maybe because it's been awhile since I am in the company of Elena and her Archangel; I'm more prone to the Psy/Changeling world. However, it only takes awhile because Nalini Singh just takes me to the world in a flawless and echanting writing, then I find myself being lullaby'ed with the story. It's her talent that I come to downright adore.

The relationship of Elena and Raphael has come into one of that comfort, for me at least. It is less raw than the previous two books, but it also a sign of a couple that have been together for awhile. It's wonderful to see how Raphael bears the mark of his Guild Hunter with the mortal heart -- he is no longer the same Archangel I meet in the first book, Elena slightly changes him, but to the better. I love this couple so very much. Both are strong-willed but complement each other. I am very curious in how the fact that Raphael's mother now must count into the storyline will effect them in the future.

I still miss Elena's friends ... though there are some scenes with Sara, Deacon, Ransom, and even a glimpse of Ashwini. BUT, the appearance of my favorite Seven, Illium in quite a number of scenes make up for it. I just love him; I want my own Bluebell :). There are also scenes with Raphael's other Seven, most notably one of his most mysterious, the angel Aodhan.

This is a great world that Nalini Singh presents to the readers. And I'm happy to learn that this year, there will be one more Guild Hunter books focusing on Dimitri. As the vampire who stands with Raphael the most and the leader of the Seven, I'm intrigued with his past (and future) as well.(less)

Ohhhh, Archangel’s Consort. Where do I start? I have fawned over the cover for a long time, counted down the days for your release since I finished with Archangel’s Kiss. I don’t want to say that I am completely disappointed, but it didn’t live fully up to my expectations.

The Bad: The “Archangel“/”Hunter” call-and-answer between Raphael and Elena every other page drove me bananas. This call-and-answer happened so many time throughout the first half of the book that I was smacking my own self in frustration. I cannot imagine communicating with my husband like that! It would go something like this… Me: “IT Director” DH: “ProgramManager“. Yes, I get it, this is a fantasy world, but come on! Raphael and Elena are beautiful names! You don’t have to use them all the time, you can have pet names, but not every other page. Please! Also, the first part of the book I really struggled to stay engaged. I just didn’t know where the overall plot was going and I still can’t really tell you. The first two books of the series I found to be so very fast-paced, so this was a stark contrast to what I’d expected. We learn more about Raphael’s mother and how her “re-awakening” might be behind some frightening and erratic behavior among other members of the Cadre. She might also be behind the murders of vampires & people, including two children. But she might not be the most terrible monster in this story, because remember the monster from the last book still exists…

The Good: Nalini Singh is a masterful world builder and fantasy character creator. The images she creates of Raphael and his Seven, the beauty of their wings and bodies, all the different colors and and vivid imagery are superb and unmatched. We get more of Dmitri and the Seven and each character is so different and unique physically and temperamentally. I feel as though I am with Elena as she struggles to get better at using her wings. I love her growing determination and insistence to not allow Raphael plow right over her with his demands. When Elena and Raphael finally “dance”, that is just magnificently hot. We see Raphael and Elena’s relationship mature as they learn to give and take. Elena flexes her muscles and demands Raphael treat her not as a weakling to be ordered around but as an equal. This is one of my favorite “ohhh snap!” moments, where big arrogant badass Archangel Raphael gets told:

“I’m marking out a piece of the house as my own territory.”

A cool pause. “I will not allow you to put distance between us, Elena.”

She’d seen that one coming, was more than ready to handle it. “I need a place where I can slam the door in your face when I’m mad. I’m pretty sure both of us would prefer that place be here and not elsewhere.”

All in all, I consider this a lull in the overall series but am definitely not discouraged from the series at all. You know I will still be counting down the days for the next book, Archangel’s Blade due out later this year, and will probably squee when the cover is released too, if it’s anything as gorgeous as this one. I definitely do not recommend reading this book standalone. If anything because the first two books (Angels’ Blood & Archangel’s Kiss) are so much better, but also because there is too much backstory you’ll miss to follow this.(less)

Almost 4stars.
Elena was just not my favorite in this installment. I'm so use to her being the very independent, kick ass heroine and to find her so whiny and vulnerable was not expected. I felt like it dragged, all I heard was "Raphael, I need you" or "I'm his CONSORT" this and that. It was annoying to me.
But then at about 75% it takes a turn. She starts revealing her past torments and that was intriguing and the plot thickened and became fast paced.
