This book has most of the key ingredients to a good romance: an emotionally and physically damaged hero who can't forget the horrors of war + a tortured heroine who blames the hero for her brother's death on the battlefield and is in dire straits due to her father's gambling debts + angsty conflicts heightened by the hero's sense of guilt and inadequacy + steamy love scenes. Healing Heart’s is a sweet romance with tons of sexual tension. I enjoyed reading this novella. You’ll find the hero very damaged from a war and the heroine very mad at him, but it doesn’t take long for her to warm up. This is not a fast paced action read, it heartfelt story between two people that already loved each other. I loved the authors writing style and I will be reading more of her books in the future. I recommend this to anyone that would like a hot sweet novella romance.

Healing Hearts is a touching tale about two souls finding forgiveness and comfort in one another. Emma has loved Adam since she was a child but now she blames him for her brother’s death. Even though she despises him, she is drawn to him like no other.

At First Sight: Emma Whiteside is angry and in dire need of help. Ever since her brother died during the war a year ago, her life has been going from bad to worse and now she has reached the end of her rope as her father has disappeared, leaving her to deal with ever growing debts.
Her only comfort comes from blaming everything on Adam Caldwell, Viscount Riverton, the man who - when she was but eight years old -she made promise her to wait until she was old enough to marry him, and the official...more

I debated long over the amount of stars to give this book. Here are my reasons for the 3:
1. It's good, but it's just too short. I really liked the premise, but the execution was so rushed and overwhelming. We never really learn about Emma's change of heart. We are told, over and over, in an amazing assortment of melting-ice metaphors, about her resentment fading away, but good writing is about showing feelings and character development. Besides the romance, which happens in just one day, I reall...more

Healing Hearts by Taryn Kincaid is a must read for those of you who love the Regency period. Add the backdrop of the Napoleonic War and the story becomes even more powerful.
Taryn weaves a story of love-hate-love with skill, beautifully chose words and the perfect pacing. She makes you believe you are actually there-at the cliffs, then in the manor house-seeing, feeling touching the pain Emma and Adam go through. You feel their passion when Emma finally confesses her love only to have Adam say no...more

Recommends it for:
Elizabeth Hoyt, Samantha James, Shirley Karr fans
4.5 stars. It is darn near impossible to write a complex, emotionally satisfying love story with a real conflict in a mere 74 pages, but somehow Kincaid pulls it off, and for that alone, I have to salute her. If you enjoy slightly gothic regencies, like Elizabeth Hoyt's Maiden Lane series or Samantha James's or Shirley Karr's work, you will enjoy this tale of a young woman confronting the man she spent most of her life idolizing, but now blames for the death of her twin brother. With vivid detai...more
I have been enjoying the ebooks I have been reviewing, more than I thought I would, this story is no exception. They say there is a fine line between love and hate, never so much so than in this story. Emma Whiteside's feelings are are storm tossed as the gale that blows all around her, as she watches Viscount Riverton slowly make his way toward her, his gait impeded from a war injury. A war that claimed Emma's beloved twin brother Michael, a death Emma lays squarely on the viscount's broad shou...more
Dodie's Review
This is a Regency romance in its finest form. There's something simple and pure about a Regency Romance. The hero and heroine can interact without the modern distractions of daily life. When done properly, its a story beautiful in its simplicity. I'm sure that people in that real era had real, difficult problems that weren't so easily solved, but in the fantasy world of books, things are easily solved.
At first glance, Adam is colored through Emma's anger at the loss of her brother...more

Healing Hearts by Taryn Kincaid is a very moving love story, and it makes me ponder a lot. It is a historical romance written in a very passionate way, and I love how the characters develop as I read about them page by page. One of my favourite phrase from the book is this:
“But despite the depths to which I may have fallen, I have managed to retain my manners.”

Well, that was one heck of a silly book: everything, besides the epilogue, takes place in less than a day during which the heroes' feeling run from hate to lust to love in just a few hours. Yes, that's right: the heroine starts the book hating the hero for the death of her brother during the war, but she soon discovers she wants him anyway and finally admits that she even loves him. The hero's feelings at least start one step higher, skipping hate and moving directly to lust, before eventually t...more
This is one of those short stories that could have been an amazing full length novel, but I’m so happy Ms. Kincaid kept it short. It didn’t need the length to be spectacular! It focused on the moment two people longing for each other reunited and I enjoyed every darn minute of it.
I promise not to ruin anything, but I have to share the scene that melted my heart. Emma is a child and Adam a teenager. She demands something of him that is so innocent, yet so Emma. I don’t want to spoil it so I’ll k...more

This was one of those slow, sweet books that winds around you and lets you flow into the lives of the characters. Relatively short, the book draws you in and lets you feel how two people on the edge of very different precipices find a way to come together.

Healing Hearts is another quick read from Carina Press. I enjoyed Healing Hearts. It's a classic story of two broken people who find life and happiness in loving one another. Adam has been wounded not just physically, but emotionally by the war in Spain. Emma still loves Adam even though he might have led he brother to his death. I think I liked this one so much because the hero is flawed. I can empathize better with the character that way. The epilogue was very amusing and a great way to end th...more
Healing Hearts is a sweet historical romance story that any girl could love. This tale is the perfect combination of drama, angst and passion that will entertain you throughout. If you are looking for that stunning, but all to brief read, Healing Hearts is the novel for you.

I adored the beginning of this book. The damaged hero and the hostile heroine, who was secretly in love w/ hero. Having said that, this book is a perfect example of a book that suffered from word count anxiety. The author tried to cram so much in, and there wasn't enough time to fully explore any of it, which is a shame because most of the threads were worth exploring deeply and thoroughly. The romance felt rushed to me, which saddens me since it had such huge potential.
