The Horseman of War has never been so sexy! Ares is strong, courageous and he bears the fate of mankind on his shoulders.

Cara Thornton is the key to Ares' safety and doom. And the connection between her and Ares is quite amusing to watch as she keeps him guessing.

This is an engaging, engrossing, fast paced and totally delicious read. The world building is fabulous and I thoroughly enjoyed the glimpses of the characters in the Demonica series.

Let’s start with the cover(s). Why do PNR books (almost) always have on them the half-naked hot dude who’s missing half of his face? There was a time when I didn’t really mind it but enough already! See the UK version for this book? AWESOME! I really REALLY love it! And I saw many book covers from the UK which were pretty good which means that the trends are different there. If I could describe Larissa Ione’s new book, Eternal Rider, in one word, it would be “whoa”, as in this book seriously blew my mind away. If you thought Larissa Demonica series was dark, beyond steamy erotic and twisted, you’ll be happy to know that Eternal Rider is all these things and much more. I cou...more If I could describe Larissa Ione’s new book, Eternal Rider, in one word, it would be “whoa”, as in this book seriously blew my mind away. Eternal Rider is the first book in Larissa’s Lords of Deliverance series that’s an offshoot of her very popular Demonica series. If you thought Larissa Demonica series was dark, beyond steamy erotic and twisted, you’ll be happy to know that Eternal Rider is all these things and much more. Larissa walks a fine line here because everything is more intense. I couldn’t believe how far she went with things. At one point I had to put Eternal Rider down and take a break. I usually don’t do this with the books I read, but the amount of fighting and the eye-popping character’s actions really sucker punches you in the gut.

Also Larissa writes one of the most inventive, “did she really do what I think she did?” sex scenes that not only shocked me senseless but was too good for words. Larissa has written an upside down tree sex scene, and no, the heroine and hero don’t have upside down sex with a tree, but with each other (a vine is used in a creative way). For that alone Larissa gets two thumbs up from me. Surprises like this among other jaw dropping scenes makes Eternal Rider a book full of win and one paranormal fiction/romance fans will eat up. If you’re looking for light and fluffy, look elsewhere.

Eternal Rider introduces the future Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Ares is the hero of this story and the horseman of War. His siblings, Reseph is Pestilence, Thanatos is Death and Limos, their sister is Famine. The only way the end of the days aka the Apocalypse can come to pass is if their seals are broken. As long as none of their seals break, the world is safe. Unfortunately Reseph’s seal breaks and he brings Pestilence across the land. Reseph is now evil incardinate and Ares and his other two siblings must try and stop him.

Ares has a past full or heartbreak and woe. He once lived as a human centuries ago before he found out what his destiny was. So much was taken from him and because of it he lives in seclusion with only his servants. He refuses to give into love, but that all changes when Cara Thornhart falls into his life.

Cara has a unique way with animals. She can heal them, and because of her ability, she becomes a target. When she tries to heal an injured dog, she’s attacked by scary armed men who use their fists to get the answers they want. The reason is the hurt dog is not a dog at all, but a hellhound Cara names Hal. She’s bonded with Hal by no choice of her own and because of that Ares must protect her. Then a fallen angel transfers something called the agimortus onto Cara. This agirmoty thing, as Cara calls it, gives her unbelievable strength and power, but will end up killing her if she can’t transfer it back to another. Also, if Hal dies, so does she. Not only does Ares have to stop Reseph, but keep Cara away from his deranged brother and every other demon, hellhound and supernatural creature searching for her. Plus Ares can’t keep his libido quiet around Cara, and although he’s willing to act on his desires with her, he refuses to care for her because loving another woman would weaken him.

Cara is abused every which way to Sunday and is forced to do so many thing that would make another woman crawl into a corner and rock. She’s forced to accept things, even with Ares, who expects to be obeyed in everything. So much happens to Cara, such as near death, torture, almost rape and mind-numbing sex (thanks to Ares) that had my head spinning. What more could this woman go through that would finally make her break down and turn her into a drooling vegetable?

Ares has his ulterior motives as does those he’s involved with. He’s a damaged soul who can’t get over his past. Cara is his savior and the perfect balm to help him move on, if he can. Times are bleak and a HEA for these two may be questionable in the big scheme of things.

Even though the majority of Eternal Rider has a large amount of dark undertones, there are some laughs and nice snark, mainly from Limos. There’s this great scene where a fallen angel has been captured and she decides to torture him with Ares’s dvd collection of Miami Vice and Starsky and Hutch. This is an example of a few lighthearted moments that are very much needed.

The love scenes are beyond steamy and Larissa raises them up a notch. The moment I read the upside down tree sex between Ares and Cara, I was floored, but in a good way.

Eternal Rider is one book that may not be for everyone. But it is one wild ride that I couldn’t’ get enough of. I look forward to the next book in this series, which will be about Limos and how one kiss or being too touchy feely with another man can make her the queen and breeder for Lucifer, the rule of hell. I can pretty much assume that will also be a rip roaring, at times shocking read, but one that I would gladly climb aboard as a passenger of Larissa Ione train.(less)

Awesome! I loved this!

I’m a sucker for books that take Biblical themes and build upon them. Angels, demons, images of heaven and hell, obscure Biblical and apocryphal stories – I love it. Larissa Ione’s Eternal Rider gives the story a modern flavor. The series builds upon the author’s Demonica series and is best read after Sin Undone. Many of the Demonica character favorites appear in this spin-off series.

Larissa Ione stacked her Demonica series on sympathetic men and women, a compendium-full of demons neither sparkly nor vegetarian, twisty plots, violence, romance, and brotherly bonds that inspire bloodshed and manly half-hugs.

Cara was on hell of a heroin. She is courageous, funny and sarcastic. Ares is a walking legend(an wet dream) and he is so sweet when he doesn't know what to do with her or his emotions...

I was super excited to find out this new book would be set in the same world as Demonica. Please welcome the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Ares (War), Reseph (Pestilence), Thanatos (Death), and the only female in the group, Limos (Famine). Each of the Horsemen have a Seal and each Seal comes with two prophecies. The goal will be keeping these seals intact so the end of the world doesn't come. Unfortunately, that might be a little too late for Reseph. His Seal has broke and this brother is now causing disease and plagues all across the world. Can he be stopped in time?

Cara has the secret ability to heal animals, although she is not a practicing vet she tries to help and is thrown into a whole new world when an injured dog is brought to her doorstep. Just to add to this mess she then comes to find out, well, this isn't just a regular dog. Of course not it is a hellhound. Since she has no idea what in the world a hellhound actually is, but he bonds with her. Ares’ seal is passed over to Cara. Normally humans arent strong enough to carry Seals, but since she is now bonded to the hellhound, she is alive for the time being and Ares must make sure Cara stays that way. If not and his Seal is to break, he will become War and the world as she has come to know it will never be the same.

Getting into this book way never an issue. It was the same world but different main characters who by the end of book I loved. These new characters are not only interesting but I loved that they had a good and bad side to them. And you get to see both sides. *squee* As in any new book of series the information and rules are very detailed and tend to overwhelm you while you are trying to get lost in this world. Even though a lot of information is thrown at you, I loved how you are reminded through out the book so you never can forget what they are. Once you pass through the beginning of the book it turns into smooth sailing from there and you wont be able to put down this tasty treat.

I loved Ares! I mean the way his character is and comes undone with Cara was not only sweet but sigh worthy. He for sure had his swooning moments. The build up to their relationship was not overly done and just perfect. The sex scenes are hot. I also loved that the characters from the Demonica series made some guest appearances. That was a great treat getting to see them and how their lives have turned out since that series ended.

I will have to recommend this book to everyone. It was a breath of fresh air. Larissa Ione never disappoints and she will have you hooked. I cant wait for the second book in the series Immortal Rider which is set to release December 2011.

Sheesh! This author has so much imagination she can get in to the exporting business and sell ideas! Stephen King has nothing on her!
There was a bit less sex then her other books. Maybe I’m just plain crazy but I think that was the case. At first I got kind of annoyed the main characters took all that time to really hook up. It was an erotica. Where were my sexy scenes ? What did I pay for? :)

This book follows the chain of events that was started by Sin(the first female Seminus demon), Sin started a warg disease which led to a clash between the wargs and the breaking of the first seal Pestilence.
The first chapter tells us the history of the horsemen, how they are half-demon(Lillith is their mother) and half angel. They are Reseph(pestilence), Ares(war), Limos(famine), and Thanatos(death). Except for Limos all grew up in the human realm and had no idea about their existence until Limos escaped and told them the truth. The demons tried to recruit these four and as a result in revenge and anger the Horsemen recruited humans and hence brought about destruction. They were cursed by the heavens, they could either prevent Armageddon or be the cause of it, and if their seals broke they would loose their souls.
Reseph who was a playboy but was very kind to others especially his sister Limos is the first one who has his seal broken and he turns into a nightmare, unleashing diseases everywhere and trying to break the other seals. The Horsemen have two watchers, one angel and one demon but they aren't allowed to interfere.
The effect of breaking of the one seal is that the other three become more susceptible. Thantos seal is his virginity, Limos's is some cup which people have never found and Ares is a fallen angel(called agimortus). Reseph unleashes a war on fallen angels so that the agimortus which can be transferred cannot. Ares's fallen angel is on the run and then he finds out that he is dead but managed to transfer it to someone else.
Cara is our heroine, she has special healing powers but ever since a bad experience two years ago she has become a recluse. In the night someone drops off what seems to be a pup at her house but is actually a hell-hound. He gives her a hell-kiss in gratitude for saving him and as a result the events of the other world are visible to Cara. Things come to pass and somehow the Aegis Guardians(who hunt demons), attack Cara, Ares saves her and when he finds out what has happened to her, he realizes he can use her to lead him to the hell-hound which is in the captivity of the one who holds Are's agimortus. Seems complicated but it is not really. The book is action-packed, not one dull moment.
Cara ends up with the agimortus but the catch is that humans can't survive long with it and also Cara's life-force is tied to the hellhound. We get to see the siblings and also visit members from the previous books, a war is on so unlikely forces are uniting.
Ares is a great hero, he is flawed, he is WAR but he also has a tender side which he shows to Cara. Cara is a great heroine she doesn't take crap from anyone, she calls out Ares and tells him I'm the queen and hold all the cards, she teases him and also gets him to open up about his past before he was cursed. She is a kick-ass heroine and well we get a lot of hot scenes, one in the end in a tree(I'm still not sure how it worked?), but an excellent book. Limos book was set-up in this one and it is gonna be great. We meet her hero as well. Limos is Satan's bride, it will be great to see how things are tied up for her.
One of the best books of 2011. It has got passion, conflict, action, hot men and an excellent lead pair.(less)

Ares, a.k.a. War, is running out of time. His brother, now known as Pestilence, seal has been broken and he is wreaking havoc worldwide. Trying his hardest to start the Apocalypse, he is seeking Ares’s agimortus. All Pestilence needs to do is break one of his siblings seals and the four horsemen will ride, destroying the world.
When Cara’s neighbor brings a wounded animal to her door she uses her unique healing ability on it, earning a great big kiss of gratitude from the creature. Little did she know that she just received a Hell Hounds kiss and has been thrown into the Otherworld, now bound to the pup.
As Ares chases down a fallen angel who holds his agimortus their two worlds collide. The agimortus is transferred to Cara, a human whose body cannot handle the brand and will die within days and ultimately break Ares’s shield. It’s a race against time, and their growing passion for each other, to find another fallen angel to take the brand and the only known weapon that can stop a horseman, the dagger Deliverence.

Eternal Rider begins six months after the Demonica’s Sin Undone ended. You do not need to read the Demonica series to start on the spin-off but it’s a freakin’ amazing series so why not? But also, there are small details here and there that tie the two series together; though this series is starting out amazing in it’s own right.

Ares is a sexy warrior tormented by his past and in fear of his future. He is saddened by his brother’s turning from good to evil because of his broken seal but knows that he must kill him to save the world and being a warrior, he will. He’s a total alpha that is use to control so when this weak human becomes connected to him Ares becomes frustrated by his lack of control and takes it out on Cara.
Cara is pretty frightened and stressed about the whole situation at first but when she realizes how important she is to Ares and the world she puts on her big-girl-panties and sucks it up, becoming a strong heroine to admire. Ares is absolutely floored when she refuses to be pushed around by him and I totally applauded her because it is just what he needed.
The relationship development between them was smooth and fabulous and their dialogues are smart & sexy. The main characters are complex and I loved both Ares and Kara. There’s an immediate attraction between these two (Ares is one yummy MC) but it isn’t easy, it takes some time to develop due to Ares feelings on mortals, his past and a tragedy in Cara’s past, but once they take that step things get fiery. Though as we all know, sex does not solve all, unfortunately. But it does make for some hot reading!
Ares’s siblings were intensely interesting and I can’t wait for their stories. It was also great to see some familiar faces from the Demonica world and get updates on their lives and some happy news.
The world itself runs parallel to the Demonica series and is introduced wonderfully with Ione’s superb writing style but doesn’t bore old fans. You receive a more in depth look into the demon world, Sheol, and the Four Horsemen prophecy. The plot is suspenseful with plenty of action to keep you entertained and romance that is steamy and emotional.

Some spin-off series tend to fall flat but you won’t have any worries with that in Lords of Deliverance, it is right on par with the Demonica series and I am looking forward to the next installment featuring Limo, Immortal Rider, set for release December 1st. A definite page-turner from must read author Larissa Ione! (less)

Wow! Wow! That was all I could say when I finished this book. What a adrenaline ride! My heart is still racing! This book puts you on a serious emotional rollercoaster ride: from feeling frustration, anger, sadness, humor, excitement, passion... The author did a great job with continuing to build on the world she created in the first book of the Demonica series. You are introduced to more creatures including hellhounds and bada** horses. I have to admit that Ione's Demonica series is probably one of my favorite PNR series out there currently. It was so unique and yet enjoyable at the same time, so when I saw she had a new series out, I wasn't sure if she was going to be able to love up to my love for Demonica. But did she ever! This was a home run, a grand slam and whatever type of sports terminologies I can bring into the review.

Larissa Ione is back and in full effect with her novel Eternal Rider, the first in her new Lords of Deliverance series.

The first Horseman Reseph had his Seal broken during the events in the last of the Demonica books Sin Undone, causing him to become Pestilence. He has completely turned evil and is hellbent on breaking the Seals of his 3 fellow Horseman brothers and sister to bring about the Apocalypse. Ares is the Horseman who would be War, and his Seal is carried by a Fallen Angel. If the Angel dies and is not able to pass the seal to someone else beforehand, the Seal will break turning Ares in to War. Through a series of events, the heroine Cara ends up unwillingly carrying Ares’s Seal, and thus begins their journey together to prevent Pestilence from starting armageddon.

Even as a rabid fan of Larissa Ione’s Demonica series, this book held a tremendous amount of backstory and set up through about the first third of the book. It slowed the pace down and could be overwhelming to anyone not familiar with Demonica. I would never discourage anyone from reading Eternal Rider, but having a background and familiarity with the Demonica characters and mythology gave me a better enjoyment of this new world. Once things start heating up after about a third way through the book, however, hold on to your seat because the story flies.

Eternal Rider is a complex and intense story that is filled with imaginative characters that hold great depth typical of Ms Ione. The world building is richly layered and wonderfully dark. We meet the major players for the next books in the series and the foundation is solidly laid. You will be captivated by the other two Horseman siblings who are fighting to keep their Seals intact – Limos who would be Famine, Thanatos who would be Death. One of my favorite new characters we aren’t introduced to until the end of the book, Hades, really left an impression on me and I can’t wait to see him in future books. As promised, we get appearances from those hot Seminus brothers and some of their mates, we even get to see UGH once or twice! Cara wasn’t one of my favorite heroines of all time, but who cares. The complexity and excitement of what all was going on made my slight annoyances with her a non-issue.

On Twitter last week Larissa Ione stated that Reseph AKA Pestilence will get his own book and she is very excited to write it. If anyone can make such a sick twisted psycho redeemable, it’s Ms Ione. But, next up in the series is Immortal Rider where we get to learn more about the gorgeous (and deadly) Limos. It is set to release on December of 2011 and I can’t freakin wait! I lovvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeee Ares! :) Rather than a usual review because duh it is Larissa Ione one of my faves I will just throw in some thoughts for this one since I loved it. Oh, how I missed The Demonica series but Larissa has found a great way of writing a new series and keeping our faves from Demonica alive. 3 1/2 stars actually. The first third of this book was a tremendous amount of setup and backstory, which made it slow going. I also didn't realize this wasn't really a new world/series, but actually a continuation of her previous series, with new main characters, but set in the same world, with characters from the previous series playing a role. I think fans of that series may come to this series with a greater enjoyment of the world.

This book is the first of the Lords of Deliverance series, a follow on from Ione’s Demonica series, which I absolutely adored! So of course I was very eager to dive right in. I would strongly recommend you read Demonica before you attempt this, so that you understand the world, and know the characters and all of the events that lead up to this book.

I liked Eternal Rider, though probably not quite as much as the Ione's Demonica books. About midway through I realized that Eternal Rider reminded me very much of Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld. Why it had the feel of that series more than Ione's Demonica books is something I haven't yet managed to put my finger on. Still I liked the heroine and the hellhound and I thought that the two remaining 'horseman' siblings were interesting so I will be checking out the next book, Immortal Ride...more

Meanwhile, Cara gets called out into the night to heal a dog who is hit by a car and shot. She's human, but with the little known ability to heal animals. Turns out that dog is a Hellhound puppy. He is so happy to be saved, he gives her 'Hell's Kiss'--tying their life forces together and pulling her into the supernatural world. Ares meets her while hot on the trail after the fallen angel who carries his seal. But when the fallen angel passes his seal to Cara, Ares takes her back to his home to protect her. Humans are not strong enough to carry a seal, but due to Hell's Kiss hopefully Cara will hold out a bit longer to allow time to find another fallen angel to transfer. Of course, Pestilence is killing the fallen angels or sending them back to Sheol. So the race is on....

The first part of the book started a bit slow/choppy (typical of many first books in a series while world building), but then it picked up and the last half was great. High action/suspense with some good twists and turns. The premise of the book was very original--not your typical vampire or shifter PNR. I liked the four horseman theme, and thought it was cool one of the horsemen is actually a gal. And I liked the glimpses we saw of the Demonica characters. The ending was awesome and very original. Can't say more because it's too big of a spoiler. Ione has a great imagination! Look forward to the next one--Immortal Rider, which is scheduled for release December 2011.

My first Ione book. Huge mistake. I should have started with the first of Demonica series. Why? Because a good quarter of the book I understood nothing! :) It was like that: "W-what? What's going on? W-what his name is again? And who is this guy??" LOL. Why I started with this one? Because I fell for the cover-boy!! Silly girl, am I?

This book kind of surprised me. I'm not really what you'd call a real romance reader. Like I don't even know who the major players are in the genre. While I do read some YA paranormal romance these days, not so much adult romance. Anyway, so going into this book, I was basically expecting some good old PWP. In Eternal Rider Ares also known as War one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse has to fight against his own brother Reseph to save mankind. Anyone familiar with Larrisa Ione's Damonica Series knows that in the last book Sin Undone a seal was broken. And this seal starts a war that ends all wars The Apocalypse.

Reseph also known as Pestilence(disease/plague) is on a mission to break the seals of his brothers and sister. The once fun going brother is now a psycho set out to end the world. In order for the Apocalypse to take place all four seals must be broken and apparently once two are broken it is inevitable for the last two to follow.

Ares now has to find his Agimortus carried by a fallen angel that once killed will break Ares seal. Unfortunately that fallen angel passes the Agimortus to a human female Cara right before he is killed. Now Ares is on the move to find Cara and fast, a human is not strong enough to carry the Agimortus and it will slowly kill her. Well Ares finds her and begins to fall in love with her. Now Ares must save her and himself by finding another fallen angel to place the Agimortus in and not just any fallen it must be one who has not entered Sheoul/Hell. But Pestilence is two steps ahead and he is killing off the fallen.

In a true fight against time how will Ares save himself from going evil, Cara his mate from impending death and The Apocalypse?!

Larrisa Ione does not let you down in this first book in the Lord's of Deliverance series she brings you awesome world building, passion, action, love and Hot as hell males fueled by Demon testostrone! I must also add that I LOVE REAVER!!!!

Whilst this is the 1st in the Lords of Deliverance series, it also has characters and world building from the Demonica series. How do I know this, cause I've yet to read Demonica? Friends have mentioned it and it becomes obvious when reading that this is so. And no, I don't mean it was hard to read without 1st having read Demonica. I found it really easy to slip into this world.

Being the last lady on the planet that has yet to read the Demonica series by Ione, I felt I needed to get my arse in gear and read something by this beloved author. It’s safe to say that I will be reading more, as I thoroughly enjoyed this first installment in the Lords of Deliverance series, which is set in the Demonica world. I was immediately sucked into the story, and I love the interesting, dark world that Ione has created. I’m all over the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse storyline. And anything involving Greek Mythology. Ares (War), Thanatos (Death), Limos (Famine) and Reseph (Pestilence) are the Horsemen/Horsewoman of the Apocalypse. ;) I won’t go into the history, as that is for you to discover. However, this set of siblings has been cursed to carry the Seals of Armageddon, and they can only be broken via their agimortus. And when their Seals are broken, the apocalypse cometh.

This book is about Ares. Aka War, the second horseman. He’s strong, fierce, determined, yet has the ability to be gentle and compassionate. Battle, Ares’ horse, is BOSS. I think he might be my favorite character! And you know what is really cool about the horsemen’s horses? They magically live on their owner’s skin, like a living tattoo, and can be called out when needed. So rad. I need one like yesterday.

I enjoyed Cara’s character. She was fierce and strong, even when looking death in the face. She is a gifted healer and has endured trauma that she has not yet dealt with. Cara used to be a Vet and a friend drops off a hellhound puppy that is injured. Cara realizes something is different about this pup, but quickly works her magic and heals the little guy right up. He gives her a big sloppy kiss of thanks. A very special sloppy kiss. And thus, Cara is sucked into a world that she never fathomed could exist. On top of that, she soon becomes the lucky recipient of Ares’ agimortus, and well, he must protect her so he can remain semi-sweet Ares, instead of War.

Cara and Ares’ relationship is slow burning, but it hurt so good. Ares is not interested in becoming involved with a human because they die. We see some serious vulnerability from Ares when he finally lets Cara know why he is so guarded. She also has issues of her own, and eventually relays her traumatic past. I loved Ione’s use of quotes from past conversations in the character’s thoughts to illicit emotion, or make them come to a realization. Oh, and the smut was great. The shower scene was by far my favorite smexy scene. :)

Reseph is the first horseman of the apocalypse, and his seal hath broken. No longer do his siblings have the funny, warm brother that they loved so much. Now, Pestilence, as his name suggests, spreads disease and chaos like wild fire. He is one sick fock, but I loved the death, gore and destruction that he pretty much bathed in. Hmmm. What does this say about me…? Unfortunately for Cara and Ares, Pestilence is quite looking forward to War, Death and Famine joining the party, and sets out to destroy Ares’ agimortus. Uh oh…(less)
