i will not list all of Karen Kingsburys books, but if you pick up one of them, you will read them all, they are a great way to escape and find how people handle common crisis in life.Awsome author.
Remember the movie "Ever After"? The beginning where the sweet old lady says: "How does it start? Oh yes, once upon a time....". It reminds me of Karen Kingsbury. She really should add a disclaimer at the beginning of her books stating it'll start off realistically & interesting, then somehow veer off into Fairytale Land where "once upon a time" turns into "happily ever after" no matter how ridiculous or outlandish the situation. In her world it never...more
This book is about how your wrong decision (sin) can come back to get you even after you have moved on and even after 9 years has pasted. Kingsbury is a religious author but I found her most interesting and religious main character was the 8 year old boy. None of the adults seemed to be daily Christians but rather “Sunday only when I can fit Christ in” Christians, except Max’s mom. Found that the theme of forgiveness was ok in the book. I liked the son/father forgiveness storyline but the wi...more

This book is really amazing. It makes you think more on the right and wrong decisions and it makes you think in faith and if your being loyal to a certain person. It could be a friend,a boyfriend or even a husband if you're married. In this book Conner Evans, a pilot, makes a poor decision that leads to a major concequence. He was a married man with children when he breaks the greatest promise he ever made. He had an affair with a flight attendant named, Kiahna Siefert. He never saw her again. ...more
A co-worker recommended this book to me. This is my very first foray into the Christian fiction genre. The story is about a man (Connor) who committed adultery one time 8 years prior. He never saw the woman (Kiahna) again and he never told his wife (Michele). Kiahna is killed in a plane crash and Connor is contacted by her lawyer about the 8 year-old-son he never knew he had. This novel deals with all the emotions of betrayal, anger, guilt, love, and forgiveness. It was a hard one for me t...more
Oceans Apart by Karen Kingsbury
I am pretty sure this was my first Karen Kingsbury book (goodness, what took me so long?!?!)
And I have to admit, she lives up to everything great I have heard about her writing.
I ended up listening to an audio recording of this book. Everytime I got in my car to run errands I would listen to this book and surprisingly got through it really quickly. :) (Guess it shows I spend a LOT of time in my car).

I seriously hated this book... but it was a book club pick so I read it.
The story is about an airline pilot who has a wife and two daughters and living a perfect life in Florida. But, his family doesn't know that he had a one-night stand eight years ago in Hawaii on a layover during a hurricane. What he doesn't know is that the chick got knocked up and he has a son. The woman gets killed in a plane crash - she's a stewardess still - and her will states that her son should spend tw...more

This book was amazing. Anything by Karen Kingsbury is great but I really liked this book. If you are struggling with love and acceptance this is the read for you. Be ready for tears of joy.
Ever since I read Francine Rivers’ Mark of the Lion Trilogy, I began to get interested in Christian fiction. I loved the Mark of the Lion series immensely, this trilogy is actually on top of my favorites shelf. So when the boyfriend suggested I try to read Karen Kingsbury (he might have been researching Christian authors to wow me, haha), I immediately looked for her books in my all-time favorite bookstore, Booksale.

A reader of this blog recommended I read one of Kingsbury’s novels; she said it didn’t matter which one as long as I tried one. Oceans Apart was the only one I could get through PaperBackSwap, so I decided to through caution to the wind (it’s Christian fiction) and try it. This book had me bawling by the end.(My roommate now thinks I’m loony.)

This book told the story of 2 different families, and how a tragic accident affected them both.
The first family, Kiahna and her eight year old son Max, lived in Hawaii. Kiahna was a flight attendent and one morning, the plane she was on had to make an emergency crash landing into the ocean. Max was left alone.
The second family, Connor, his wife, Michele, and their daughters, Susan and Elizabeth, lived in Miama, Florida. Connor was a piolot for the airline there.

This book was a sad book filled with plenty of trials that a family must endure (especially a little boy). However...the book is also filled with hope and promises along with prayer being the main guidance for the characters. I love how the butterfly was explained in this book and how a single mom raised her son to have faith in God. The wife in the book had to prove how strong her faith in God really was and how true of a Christian she really was...in the end, although I don't know if I coul...more
Karen Kingsbury is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Though her books are not filled with vivid scenes and lyrical analogies, her timing and character develpment pull at my heart every time. Kingsbury is fabulous at pulling the reader into the book and making them feel what her charaters are feeling. In Ocean's Apart, Kingsbury shows us what real forgiveness means; how prayer can change someones heart. Granted there were a few times I found myself rolling my eyes at some of the more h...more
Christian fiction. Kind of sappy but not too sappy. I was in the mood for sappy. I will say that the child in this book does not act like a real kid, and the first person chapters of him are not at all believable, but I don't care. I'm not in the mood to tear apart a book with a good meaning and morals in it. Also, some of the reactions of the characters seemed a bit glossed over. However, what's wrong with glossed over sometimes? Does everything have to be dark and real? Like I said, sa...more

This book is a story about making mistakes, forgiveness, straying away from God, and ultimately returning to Him…
Connor is an airline pilot who, years ago, made a terrible mistake by having an affair. He kept his awful sin to himself for years, until he gets a call from a lawyer saying that this woman tragically passed away, leaving her son..HIS son. He struggles through a painful realization: coming clean to his wife about his affair and the fact that he has a son they didn’t know a...more

Text to self:
In the book Oceans Apart by Karen Kingsbury Max loses his mother in a plane crash. He is devastated and can't believe the news when he hears it. He keeps on having hope that his mother will return to him even though he know she is gone for good. This reminds me of when I found out one of my friends was killed in a car wreck. I absolutely could not believe it. Even when I went to the funeral I kept on telling myself that none of it was real. I stil...more

Typical Karen Kingsbury's -- FANTASTIC.
I am an avid Kingsbury fan. This is the story of a man who made a mistake 8 years ago, but what you do in the dark will come out in the light. That is what happened to Conner. Only this mistake stands to break up his marriage and also destroy the lives of his wife and the children involved.
Kingsbury always keeps God in the forefront of all her stories. Her point is that when we feel we are truly alone, that is when if we listen we will...more

I actually listened to this one on AudioBook. I thought the storyline sounded easy and felt I needed a break from some of the "heavier" books I have been reading I did not realize until after listening to this book that Kingsbury is an inspiration or christian author. It was an easy, relaxing listen and I enjoyed it and listened to it in a few days. I wasn't too overwhelmed by the religious aspects of the book and actually found it very uplifting.
This is probably one of my favorite books. I absoluetly loved it. It definitly brought tears to my eyes. I cant really say much because it would totally spoil the entire book. A brief summary;
a little boy loses his mom in an airplane crash, she'd the only one he had. Through faith and forgiveness this boy finds a way to move on. He's not the only one who has to forgive & accept mistakes. Karen has a way of making her characters come alive. I felt as though they were part of my family and I shared there sorrows and joys.
Some of my favorites quotes where:
"Sense is when God tells you something but you have to be very still to hear it"
"Love happens when people forgive"
"God really does give second chances because right there he knew that he would never scoot on the ground again, just like the butterfly he would ...more

My best friend loaned me this book. She told me that the story was well worth the time to read. My friend was right! I enjoyed this story from start to finish. I found myself feeling respect for each of the characters. This author used a lot of human emotions in each of her characters. I did enjoy the happy ending, which really did surprise me. I would recommend this book to people wanting a true-to-life story.
I love Karen Kingsbury's books. This one was a clever story, a tender story about a young boy who loses his mom in a plane crash and goes to stay for 2 weeks with the father he never knew....and the father never knew he existed. I gave it 4 stars because it seemed to wrap up too quickly and too perfectly, not saying that God couldn't do it like that, it just wrapped up too quickly and neatly for me.
I am not usually a fan of Christian lit. This book, however, came to me via my mother, then again via my aunt, then again from my mother-in-law. Thus, with three copies in my grasp, I read it. My goodness, am I glad I did. This story is so real-to-life, so beautiful (though quite sad in places), that I feel it will become a book I read again and again. It's simply that wonderful.

“I tell of hearts and souls and dances...
Butterflies and second chances;
Desperate ones and dreamers bound,
Seeking life from barren ground,
Who suffer on in earthly fate
The bitter pain of agony hate,
Might but they stop and here forgive
Would break the bonds to breathe and live
And find that God in goodness brings
A chance for change, the hope of wings
To rest in Him, and self to die
And so become a butterfly.”
