A concise and accessible review of the beginnings of evolutionary theory, specifically of the works of Lyell and Darwin. Reading the 1911 edition is a stark reminder that there are still too many people who could do with understanding the basic underpinnings of inorganic and organic evolution. Judd's narrative is lively and full of conviction and understanding of the ideas presented, and it's easy to see that this volume would have been particularly persuasive when it was published.
