I'm completely addicted to Ai Yazawa's shojo manga Nana. Nana is the story of two young women, both from small towns, who meet on the bullet train and end up moving in together in Tokyo. Nana Komatsu (a.k.a. "Hachi") is a small-town girl who has big city dreams of romance and leaving her old life (and self) behind, while Nana Osaki has come to Tokyo to try to find success as the singer of her (psuedo) punk rock band, Blast. This all sounds like pretty standard fare so far, but once you throw in...more
Takumi...more

While I adore the Nana series, this volume was so-so compared to the others. Not that it was bad or anything. Hell no, it was actually okay. But until this volume, Nana seemed to follow a pattern of realism in everyday life and love lives. But the whole Takumi x Nana thing was way too... dream like. It was just too easy and too perfect. I already know it ends well, so that's how I know it's too perfect. Unlike with Shoji and Nana, we see no development between Nana and Takumi. It was just 'I adm...more

I'm giving this volume 5 freaking stars exclusively for the scene at the beginning (view spoiler)
This is definitely more of a set-up volume, as much of the drama that had been building up has been partially resolved at this point.
God, I hope everything works out for these peeps. Five volumes in and I'm already worrying about imaginary people.
Great.
4.5-5/5

:)
This is the turning point where the story starts to get muddy and the whole mood of the series suddenly gets much heavier. I personally enjoyed the earlier half better, without all the betrayal and love triangles and such, but I have continued reading NANA just so I can finish it and see how the whole mess ends.
i am so, so hooked on this series. very exciting developments in this volume. i can't wait until vol. 6 gets returned.

“If I ever fall in love again, I would like it if it were a slightly cold guy. Someone who won't constantly mind about my childish needs but who, the day after the quarrel, for example would offer me a flower accompanied by a sweet note That's kind of guy I need.”

“At that time I told myself that I didn't want to fall in love ever again. But that night while praying for your happiness Nana, I thought that despite all the wounds and all the pains it could cause I wanted to dream again, and love someone with all my heart.”
