Appearing Nightly (Icon Men #2)
by
Cat Grant (Goodreads Author)
You can call me Mike-or Diva Michelle on the weekends, when I perform at the Icon, a bar I own with my good friend Cameron. But just because I strut onstage in an evening gown and high heels doesn't make me a sissy. I've still got a man's body, feelings and desires. I'm also a man who knows what he wants-and that would be Ryan.

In most cases the sequels aren't as good as the first book in a series but Appearing Nightly is every bit as great as The First Real Thing. The only thing I didn't like about the book was the cover with the two guys who've been on lots of new books lately. Why couldn't the graphic designer at Ellora's give this outstanding book an equally outstanding cover?
I can't believe I'm going to say this because I really liked The First Real Thing, but I think I loved this one more. Mike was such a darling. I fell in love with him in The First Real Thing, but this book just solidified it. I also really got a fondness for Ryan that I didn't have when I met him in the first book. I loved that they both got their HEA and having it be with each other was even better.

Following the story of Cameron, the high-paid male prostitute who found love and new career in the previous book, Appearing Nightly sees him and his business partner Mike trying to rescue from bankruptcy a Chelsea night club. Mike turns Michelle on Friday and Saturday night and they have an impromptu drag queen show. The only other employee they have is Ryan, a skittish young man Mike is not able to pinpoint: or he is virgin, but at 26 years old that seems unlikely, or he is straight and quite n...more

I have a weakness for drag queens. In my opinion they are the ultimate entertainers, putting on such a show that you can’t help wishing that the party would never end. I also love a good solid story and “Appearing Nightly” fulfills both of them. This is also the sequel to “The First Real Thing” which is Cameron’s story but can this novel can be easily read as a stand alone.
Ms. Grant has infused so much into this that I am more than eager to get the first one. This is told in both Mi...more

Working all hours of the day and night to keep a business going is never easy, but for Cameron and Mike making the Icon theirs was a decision that they made knowingly but unsuspecting if the amount of work and sheer stress that is involved in keeping said business running smoothly and staying fresh recently was anything to go by.

Characterization, self-conflict, courting, and chemistry ... this book has it all. To be completely honest, I even feel that this one is so much better than the first book, except for one niggle. I love the contrast stark between Mike (and his "Diva Michelle) and Ryan. Mike with his loud existence, wearing his Michelle persona loudly. While Ryan, is more timid (probably has to do with his not-so-happy past), struggling in between conflict feeling of accepting himself as gay. The chemistry is the...more
Mike, aka Diva Michelle, likes the young employee, Ryan. He just feel that Ryan is hiding something from him. Cameron--his co-owner of the bar--doesn't want to tell what's going on. When Ryan was evicted from his apartment, Mike offered him to stay in his guest room. Slowly, they start to grow close to each other. Then, Mike learned that Ryan used to be a gigolo, and gave Cam a BJ. What should he do? And why does Ryan come to the Thanksgiving Party in Cameron's place with his ex-girlfriend?

This book is the sequel to The First Real Thing. Cameron has bought Icon (a bar) and is running it with Mike who also provides the stage show as Diva Michelle. I don't usually overly enjoy characters in drag but Mike is a wonderful character. The story centres around his relationship with Ryan, a young man with a troubled past. Ryan appeared in the first book, working as a male escort alongside Cameron, but his past is kept from Mike. Ryan is a very different character than he appeared in the fi...more
Very cute story. Loved Mike as the drag queen hero, but Ryan is my favorite! He's timid and adorable. I have a think for twinks, I really do. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I preferred The First Real Thing, but I still thoroughly enjoyed Appearing Nightly. The only thing I like better than a twink is a hard-nosed survivor, and Cam totally fit that bill.
So yes, read the series. These books are loads of fun!

I absolutely loved this sequel to The First Real Thing! I really enjoyed seeing more of Cameron as well as getting to know Mike and Ryan. Loved how their relationship grew and developed, and in my opinion, this is one of the better books I have read that have a major character who dresses in drag. Loved it, can't wait for more from this author!
Very good m/m romance about a singer/drag queen/bar co-owner who's fascinated by the cute, skittish guy who recently started working at the bar. You really need to read
The First Real Thing
before you read this book!
Come read Catherine's review at Nocturne Romance Reads!
Ryan hasn't caught a break in a long time, so landing a job at the bar Cameron and Mike own is just what he needs.
Sparks fly between Ryan and Mike, but jealousy and secrets cause a major rift between them. But it's a love story, so no worries!

Every bit as good - if not a smidge better - than the first book in this series! I like Mike...Mike can stay!

If you're looking for epic sci-fi, fantasy, or historicals, that's not me. Contemporary all the way, baby!
However, if you're looking for down to earth, complicated characters dealing with real-world problems (and the occasional comfort read!), I might just fit the bill. :)
