Basically the highlights of the Disney film. I like the story but not this version of it. There's zero character development and the prince swoops in and saves the day without even breaking a sweat. What's the moral of the story? The art just looks like stills from the movie and there isn't enough of it to match all of the text. Because of this (and the violence) I would not recommend this for children under 4 years old.

Of interest: So Maleficent cursed Aurora to her death just be...more

ISBN 0394927982 (5 stars) - Keep in mind that Disney's Wonderful World of Reading books are intended to help youngsters start reading on their own, because this book isn't meant for the advanced reader. The story is shortened and altered somewhat and the text is simplified using easy vocabulary words. The graphics are part of the story in these books, as well, making it easy for young readers to see what's happening as they learn to read.

The entire set is standard Disney - bright, be...more

This is another classic fairy tale of true love and good conquering evil. It has the elements of the woods, fairies, witches, curses, magic, and royalty. This is definitely a favorite for fairy tale classics and I think will continue to be one.

I've had this one since I was little, and for some odd reason it's stuck around despite all my other childhood books disappearing. So now it's on the shelf with the rest of my baby's books.

First off, I should say that I'm biased against the Disney-ing of fairy tales, though I recognize it to be fairly inescapable due to the kiddos. This was the 5.5 year-old's first school library pick for the year. I'm not sure what the other options were, as she's usually not a princess/Disney kinda girl. Sleeping B is the typical small waisted, buxom Disney princess. The prince is dashing. Love ensues with very little trauma, aside from the easily defeated Maleficent. It did, however, inspire me...more

My favourite Disney tale.

I read this aloud to Natalie in a couple of sittings. While she is still too young to enjoy this story, it will make a nice bed time story or reliving of the movie when she is older. I liked how the illustrations captured some of the best visuals of the movie, especially the dragon, but overall the artwork was not as high quality as the movie. While not excellent children's literature, this is a satisfying telling of a classic fairy tale.

My all-time favorite Disney story--not for the storyline or plot, but for the art, which for its time was tops. And the heroine is gorgeous, too (You will recognize Audrey Hepburn's eyes in Aurora's face)!

It you think I'm a sucker for Seuss than I'm really a sucker for Walt Disney. I love Sleeping Beauty, the Disney version.
