The original book got 4 stars from me, but this sequel only gets 2. First of all, why am I getting an ARC to a James Patterson sequel? Perhaps it's not selling as well as his other series? This book is really Witch & Wizard all over again: there's not that much changed in the way of plot, characterization or, well, anything (unlike, say, the Hunger Games trilogy, which does have some set pieces but you do see character growth and a story arc). It's definitely out of the Patterson factory and...more
The Witch & Wizard was good. I'll give it that. It wasn't the best book it had ever read, but it was fresh, funny, fast and fun. It was written in the same tone that the Maximum Ride series was written in, with a twist of magic. If there hadn't been the sequel, I would have been happy. But there was, and I'm not. I've read the more recent Maximum Ride reviews, so I'm sure there are people who agree with me when I say the plot has steadily gotten worse, with people changing sides all the time...more
I remember the first in the series wasn't that great, but it was an easy read. I don't remember it being quite this bad. First off, I feel like this series is trying to capitalize on both the supernatural and dystopian YA trends. Which would be fine, if it did a good job at either one. We're told to believe this new world has been established relatively recently, with people being openly zealous 1984 style, but I honestly don't remember any justification given for people to turn around that quic...more

Whew, finally done. I was really disapointed with this book. I loved the original, but James Patterson took the reins away from the girl who wrote the first one and handed them over to some n00b called Ned Rust. He totally screwed up the book. I mean, two characters died, and I didn't even care. Too many events rushing past, I just didn't care, which really surprised me when I realized it, because I really cared about the characters in Witch & Wizard.

The book Witch and Wizard by James Patterson, is a very exciting book. Its a thrill ride through a world with a type of government that has banished all things containing imagination such as, books, movies, music, and art. Wisty and Whit are teenagers with powers beyond imaginable such as setting yourself on fire, turning into animals, and traveling through portals that take you into another dimension. In a sequel to a book that I enjoyed, Whit and Witsy learn greif when their good friend Margo is murderred by the One in place of Witsy. In a failed plan to rescue kids from a prison the Allgood syblings pretend to be other wizards. Returning to Garfunkels there is much sadness because of all of the deaths and the frequent bombing on...more

After reading the first book of this series, I was stoked that there was a second. The story was truly mesmerizing, better than the first, and easy to understand. Its written well as the characters emotions are well described also :)
I decided to read this book to continue from the first. Getting it originally recommended, it was hard to stop reading and i felt that i had to get the second book asap as the first left me wanting more.

The reason I actually bothered to read this book was because of the ending of Witch and Wizard that left all the readers hanging.
Actually, the only reason I read this series at all was because it was highly recommended by my friend.
Anyways, I have to say that I am guilty for underestimating James Patterson without even reading his books. Because I've been judging his writing from all the negative reviews his books get and, plus, my own sister, who shares almost the same opinions with me on book...more

The Gift (2010) by James Patterson

Just like the first book the story takes place in 1st format , witch if you read my last review you would know that I am not a big an of that format . The book is still about Wisteria 'Wisty' Allgood - A rebellious fifteen-year-old girl and her brother Whitford 'Whit' Allgood A eighteen-year-old 'All-American' athlete ( they are still the ones telling the story so you know at least one must live till the end of the book ) . First off, I'm not going to bother summarizing this book for you. Read it up top, or scroll though some other comments. Or hey, even read the back the next time your in an actual bookstore.
And apperantly unlike quite a few of you, I actually did realize this was a series, and read number 1 (Witch & Wizard) first. In order. Hence the terms 'sequal' and 'series'. They're meant to be read in order.
So I read Gift, and while it wasn't great, it wasn't horrible either. Patterson's writing tends t...more

I got this book from my sister over winter break, unfortunately I didn't realize it was the part of a trilogy, or that I was reading it out of order.
This book start in the middle of a story were a group of outcast teenagers, some with powers some without, are fighting against the evil forces taking control. These 'evil forces' are controlling and constricting people to be the same, outlawing music, etc. (like every evil government tries to control their people). Although for some reason this sin...more

This is the second book in the Witch and Wizard series. It is by James Patterson. Whit and Wisty are brother and sister, with magical powers. The world is being taken over by a totalitarian regime called the New Order. The N.O. is led by The One Who Is The One which you never really find out his real name. He is also a wizard but he is extremely powerful and he basically brainwashes all of the city people and puts the rambunctious, rowdy, rude, and other wise the "bad" kids in society into labor...more
Whit and Wisty Allgood are still on the run from the New Order, which has banned all art, music and writing from the world, and is attempting to reeducate all of the children in various awful ways. Whit sees Wisty killed, only to find out it was really fellow Resister Margo, and the two siblings take off to find their parents.Whit is also looking for Celia, his lost love, who appears to him from propaganda bill boards and gets him in trouble from time to time. The two seek temporary refuge in the...more
So this book... it's just... bad. Please don't get worked up over my opinion. I liked the first book. Really, I did. But in general, Mr. P's writing seems like it's gone down the tube. The Max Ride books after the third one, Daniel X, and now Witch and Wizard.
I'm not going to annoy you with a boring summary, you should know it by now.

I thought that this book was just as good if not better than the first book in the series. The book was easy to comprehend and continued to keep me interested all throughout the book.I do think that you should read the first book of the series before you read this one because it will make a lot more sense to you and catch you up on what is going on. My favorite character in this book is Whit because even though he is strong and buff he still can be emotional and help with problems. He wants to d...more
Whit and Wisty, the leaders of the Resistance and a witch and a wizard, fights back the New Order which has taken away everything they loved. The New Order, the new government, took away their parents, and banned music, art, books, and all those fun entertainments you can think of. And they are considered wanted criminals, and the government wants to excute them for "collusion, conspiracy, and experimentation with the dark and foul arts." One day, Whit and Wisty go out to save the kids from the...more
Wisteria and Whitford Allgood are back in the second book in a dystopian series where the world has been taken over by the New Order, and their magical skills would seem to be the only hope of the Resistance. While the first book seemed to be nothing more than a prologue to explain the world in which the series is set, The Gift does a good job of being presenting an interesting story that is a blend of science fiction and fantasy.

OMG! … WTH? … It’s Harry Potter and Hermione Granger moshing through Logan’s Run, with excursions into Brave New World, 1984, and Farenheit 451. Not really. It’s the Allgood kids.
Brother and sister, Whitford and Wisteria Allgood, are a teenage wizard and a witch learning to discover and to harness their special talents in order to free a world controlled by the megalomaniacal and sinister The One. As leaders of an underground youth gang of freedom fighters, the siblings alternately narrate their...more

The first of the Witch and Wizard series was sooo terrible. I was amazed that I even managed to finish reading it at all, because it was THAT BAD.
However, even more amazing is the fact that despite how awful the first one was, I opted to pick up the second one just because I wanted some clarification as to what happens since book one doesn't really have an ending... at all.

This is an awesome book that kept me interested at all times. It was also full of surprises. It always made me think something would happen but its completely different. One time I got surprised was when after the underground concert the Bionics drummer became Wisty new boyfriend out of the blue and then when he helped the New Order capture Whit and Wisty and then New Order chopped off the drummer's hand to torture Wisty and force her to hold the dead hands till she gave The One Who Is The One he...more
