"Loving someone who doesn’t love you is hell! Don’t ever let anyone convince you that you can be happy with someone who doesn’t love you"

Words of wisdom from Papa!

Quick question before I do my review - Why, oh, why do a lot of you NOT read Historical Romance? You are missing out on such a great genre. I know some of you like your dark, gritty reads but you can do both. Take Soraya Naomi for example and I am sure she won’t mind me putting her on the spot but some of the stuff she reads I would n

This is the one.. The one that started my chemical embalance towards everything historical romance...

I was an avid reader, in elementary school. (Anyone out there remember Fear Street? lol) Mostly horror, mystery and suspense. Anne Rice and Stephen King ranking among my top authors.

Then life happened, and I stopped picking up books for well over a decade.

2 1/2 years ago, I started a new job, and met many new people, making friends among my co-workers. One, of course being Rhonda Krieger, a fe

I've found a potentially new favorite author, but unfortunately not a new favorite book. There was so much going for this book, but in the end I am still battling over how many stars it deserves.

I really don't know how to explain any of this without spoiling the book. So beware, there might be mild spoilers below. It was a high-quality, well-written regency romance. There were parts that truly sparkled and at one point I was sure it was going to make it to the top.

There was an unmistakable aura

You might as well get out your popcorn, because this promises to be entertaining. Over the past few days I have been stressed - incredibly stressed, and rightly so. As such, I didn't want to pick up any novels that required too much though, just mere enjoyment, and as I had enjoyed historical romance so much just a few months back when I binged on Lisa Kleypas's Hathaways Series, I decided to give some more titles a try this week. Needless to say, this has not been a particularly successful ende ...more

In terms of writing ability and talent, Judith McNaught will always be a 5 star for me. Her gift for drawing the reader into the very emotions of the characters is amazing! As is her ability to reveal all the layers of the soul, bit by bit until discovery and redemption are not only found but felt.

As with all things, with great gifts come great responsibilities, however. If we, the readers, are drawn into the heart of a tortured soul, we need also be allowed to experience the process of redempti

3 ½ stars – Historical/Regency Romance

This is my first McNaught read and it certainly twisted my emotions. I admired the heroine’s kindness, strength, and fortitude, but the hero was an utter, unforgivable ass. Yes, he suffered a horribly abusive childhood, a manipulative first wife, and agonizing grief, and for that I understood his cynical, detached coldness. But Jason’s continual abominable treatment of Victoria and the repeated misunderstandings were exasperating and exhausting, and he just

This is my second Judith McNaught book and I loved it just as much as I loved the first. After reading one of her contemporary romantic suspense novels and now one of her historicals, I have to say I'm blown away by the talent she has for switching between genres so beautifully. Usually an author's style of writing limits them to a certain genre and when they try to change genres it usually isn't that effortless... but wow. Judith McNaught is

No one is more surprised than I that I didn't LOVE this book like the other McNaught books I've read. The relationship between Jason and Victoria just rubbed me wrong. I didn't like Jason as a "hero". His past was alluded to for a large part of the story, but not spelled out until the end. By that time, I was convinced that he was such an ass that nothing about the events leading up to his relationship with Victoria were going to change my mind. Just because you had a rough childhood doesn't giv ...more

And yet another masterpiece of historical romance. And what an emotional roller coaster ride it was. The passion and the angst are just dripping from every page. I was completely sucked into the story from beginning to end. These books… words cannot express my love for them.

Once and Always is an earlier release for Judith McNaught and though I know I've read it before it's been so long, I had forgotten all about it. Because of this, I felt like I was coming to a brand new McNaught novel. Reading Once and Always was such a pleasure because it still holds up- after all these years- and it packs a powerful emotional punch. (Although I must admit not so much now as it would have back in the day because so many authors have copied her style.)

There isn't much I can say that hasn't already been said about this book. It has been out since 1987, you see. So I'm sure it will not come as a surprise to you when I say this was a beautifully written magnificent novel. Judith shines once again in this heartbreaking story of love, deceit, and redemption. I can't wait to read another book by her. It was exactly what I love in a romance novel!

Like the last few books I've read by this author, I will include my favorite parts of this book- but at

3.5 stars I think....

This was so hard to rate. It was well written and I was fully immersed into the story but the "hero", Jason, was problematic for me. He wasn't redeemed for me. I actually found myself wishing Victoria had dumped Jason and left with Andrew back to America. Yes, I know this is a historical romance, so I shouldn't view it with my modern day glasses but it was still hard to get past (view spoiler)

Once and always, one of the best novels I read. I love reading this novel, again and again I read it. Judith Mcnaught's novel has a strong attraction to get the reader's attention.

Victoria was a good daughter because of a single scene between her father and mother, she felt upset. She always thinks her mommy and her father was a lovely couple, but they don't.

Jason Fielding é o meu mocinho "number One"!

I hated the hero. Their relationship was such a mess. They just kept going in circles over and over and, you guessed it, over again! Once was fine, you need to build your story. Twice, acceptable, but then again, again, again... *throws book through the room*

I must admit that when I read Ms. McNaught's stories I feel like I'm 6 years old again and my mother is telling me my favorit fairy-tales: all sighs and stars in my eyes!

Her way of writing is so incredibly poetic and so powerful in its simplicity that I'm awed!

The story is pure romance in a style that reminded me of Gone With The Wind: almost epic.

Jason and Victoria together are fantastic in their love-war. Jason is a fantastic ass, while Victoria is pure flame! WOW!!!

I love Judith McNaught and I enjoy all of her novels, especially her historical romances. However, this novel is probably my least favorite. For me, it was a bit too long and dragged in many places. Secondly, I couldn't warm up to Jason, "our hero". There was nothing likable about his character or personality. He was rude, mean and obnoxious most of the time. I know the author was trying to portray his pain from betrayal in a prior marriage, but sometimes you just got to get over it. I can't ima ...more

I loved this book! Victoria was so compassionate and giving; all she wanted in life was to have someone to love and be loved in return. When Victoria’s parents died she was shipped to England under the care of Charles Fielding who had plans of his own to see that Victoria marry his illegitimate son, Jason (whom he claims as his nephew). Jason was not too thrilled when his father announced to the ton his engagement to Victoria. But he decided to let the ton believe there was an engagement so that ...more

I don't know what to say, Judith McNaught is an amazing author.

Victoria and Jason are so different but they are exactly what they need for each other. It was so beautiful to read how they fall for each other slow, how they change to become something better. Victoria is such a frees spirit that it is pleasure to read for her, how she can make everyone smile and feel better, how she makes the children from the village happy, and how nice is she with everyone. And of course her love for Jason. It w

Once and Always was my première with this author. This book is pretty curious.
It brought tears to my eyes, it frustrated me and made me laugh. The protagonists were so damned stubborn, it frustrated me throughout the whole book until I was pulling my hair because I couldn't take it any more.
Nonetheless this is a very funny and entertaining story. Judith's writing is fluid and it's pretty easy to follow her train of thought.
She created a rational plot though I'd have appreciated an epilogue so

Once and Always is a very well-written book by Judith McNaught. The overall story was enjoyable, though I preferred her other story Kingdom of Dreams. This novel, however, I only rated 3 stars (possibly 3.5) merely for the fact that it was alittle too angsty for me. Good but angsty. I understand that Jason went through an abusive childhood, he was scarred both physically and emotionally, but I felt his woman-hater attitude took alittle too long to change. Thankfully that attitude and his charact ...more

I think I'm definitely on a HR kick! I can't get enough!

I loved it, I have no idea why I thought I should skip it in the first place. But, after reading Something Wonderful, I thought I should check it out just to make sure. And I'm so so so so glad I did...

Jason was an asshole, and I loved him! Sometimes I get into that mood, and he was perfect for it.
Definitely loved Victoria too, she wasn't someone he could just shrug off that easily. I loved her courage.

Other than that I think I loved all o

I started reading "Once and Always" this morning and didn't get anything done today because it totally sucked me in. I know you would all enjoy this book!

Quando pensámos que já nada nos pode surpreender neste género, heis que surge um livro, pelo qual não daríamos nada e quase estivemos para não ler, que consegue o impensável: surpreender-nos. “(...)Did she really tell Roddy Carstairs she could outshoot him with his own pistol?"
"No," Jason said dryly. "She told him that if he made one more improper advance to her, she would shoot him- and if she missed, she would turn Wolf loose on him. And if Wolf didn't finish the job, she had every faith I would." Jason chuckled and shook his head. "It's the first time I've been nominated for the role of hero. I was a little crushed, however, to be second choice after the dog.”
