But now she's been summoned to his presence. She's not really anxious to go, but she's recently been informed by a fortuneteller that she's going to die before the year is out. Not that she believes charlatans like that, but the rest of the woman's predictions have eerily come true. So Marguerite takes her life into...more

Heroine is kidnapped by her estranged father's gambling-business partner in order to marry her to ensure that he inherits her father's business. As attracted as she is to him, heroine doesn't want to marry anybody so as to prevent her death prophecy from occurring. The fortune-teller already accurately predicted that her recovering patient would die within a week's time & that she would meet her 2 half-sisters soon. Avoiding her foretold marriage seemed like a good way to thwart her impendin...more

I don't know if I've read any of her stuff before but this was not a good beginning. It felt like Jordan was trying to combine the tropes of two other great romances into her own version of the story. Sadly, it came out feeling shallow and flat, and kind of boring.

If you've read this novel you probably noticed the clear similarity between the hero and the hero of Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas, which is a fantastic novel about a man running a gaming hell in London. And you may have also noticed...more

What would a sensible lady do if she believed she had less than a year to live? Marguerite Laurent decides to throw caution to the wind, take a lover and spend her remaining days in Spain. But before she can execute her plan, Ash Courtland acts on a plan of his own--to abduct and marry a daughter of his treacherous business partner. Too bad Ash kidnaps the only daughter who refuses to consider marriage, no matter how rich, handsome and dangerously sexy her suitor is.

En route to Scotland, Ash is...more

I have to say that I haven’t read any other Sophie Jordan books in this series, but the hints of two other character’s HEA make me want to rush the shelves and find them. Marguerite and Ash had such wonderful chemistry that I felt antsy waiting for the two of them to realize what they meant to each other. Marguerite is determined to see the world and not be bound by propriety; Ash doesn’t want her proper, he just wants her married. To him. What’s unique is that Ash doesn’t try to finesse her and...more

After strings of disappointments for trying to read other romance authors, finally I found a writer that is worth reading.

Even though this book is rated 3 stars, that is just in my opinion because Marguerite and Ash's chemistry really sizzles from the start to finish.

The instant Marguerite lay eyes on Ash, we, the readers feel the connection. I like that Ash is not some kind of blue blood aristocrat, but rather a man who works his way up to the upper class, being industrious and hardworking.

But...more

When Marguerite Laurent is told she is fated to die before the year ends, she decides to live life to the fullest. However, soon she is abducted by the handsome and ruthless Ash Courtland who is hell-bent on taking out his revenge against her father. He forces her into marriage with him and despite her refusals, she eventually gives in to her true desires.

I've read a few Sophie Jordan historicals so far and although her books lack the sophistication of other historical romance writers, they're...more

"For a historical, I am pleasantly surprised that this is a plot line I have not seen much of, if I have seen it at all. Which, of course, is great, because that makes Wicked Nights With A Lover stand out. There is no Duke who meets a young impoverish and plain spoken lady and then they fall in love. It’s a young nurse who meets a man who worked to get to where he is in life. Add the unfortunate fortune and you’ve probably got one of the more unique storylines for a historical romance novel."

This is the first book of the "lost princesses". Of course I read it third, 'cause I can rarely start a new to me author at the beginning. I can think of worse things to be sure, but it is irritating. Anyway, maybe because I had encountered the hero in the 2 other books and he was portrayed differently ( possibly because he was a very minor character in those books) I was surprised at the way he acted...very brutish (of course he grew up in the stews, so scrapping shouldn't have surprised me). These books are so ridiculous, mostly due to the fact that every single male hero is the exact same in each of Jordan's books. He's your typical alphahole who seems to think that lust = ~twu luff, and is pretty much set on mauling the heroine even if she protests. But lo! Once his scrumpalicious lips find hers, the heroine seems to forget all of her misgivings, EVEN IF SHE'S SAYING NO OUT LOUD, and realize that the hero jumping on her is what she's wanted all along and truly been missing from li...more

I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, it was pretty well written. I've been trying some new-to-me authors lately, and Jordan is definitely readable. However, Marguerite, the heroine, nearly qualifies as one of the Too Stupid To Live females. The whole premise of the story is that she's determined to not fall in love, based on the dire predictions of a fortune teller. She spends the entire story waffling back and forth between "I can't fall in love and marry him because it will...more

A very fun historical novel that is set in the winter time, just about Christmas. A woman who earns her living as a live-in nurse for the dying is told that she will only live for another year. So she contacts an old flame and agrees to be his mistress--they will travel, and perhaps she will find passion and love before she dies. Her father has essentially ignored her all her life and who now wants to marry her off to an aristocrat, and she wants no part of that little scheme. His partner decides...more

This was my first book from Sophie Jordan and it was a pleasant, fun read and I look forward to reading more of her works! The premise for this book intrigued me....Marguerite Laurent is told that she will not live to see her next Christmas. Of course she scoffs at the seer that told her this nonsense but then when her patient (she is a sick nurse) unexpectedly dies by the end of the week as the seer foretold, she starts to believe. Marguerite decides to live her life to the fullest and the firs...more

The first book of the "lost princesses", all half sisters with the same father (a wealthy but socially unacceptable owner of a gambling den). The heroine is told by a psychic that she will die soon and so our lady decides to take care of her bucket list. At the top is find a lover. On the eve of leaving with a "safe" gentleman she knows, she is kidnapped for revenge against her father by his younger partner. They slowly fall for each other (hey, it is a romance!). Not crazy about the hero, but d...more

This story showcased the growing attraction and love between Ash and Marguerite without being hindered by complicated secondary characters. The subplot involving her newly-found sisters and absent father was a little weak. I loved Ash because he was your romantic alpha hero, a strong, self-made man with humble beginnings who was possessive and jealous when appropriate. And Marguerite was a good match for him in her sweet way; there were plenty of sparks between them. I was a bit frustrated with...more

Marguerite Laurent is told that she may not live out the year and she is determined to live each day as it were her last. She may never know love....but she wants to know true passion. She agrees to be a mistress for a former admirer, but before she gets involved with him, she is abducted by a dangerous rogue who wants to marry her before the week is out.

This book has a unique hero and heroine for a Regency Romance. They are not aristocrats, but from the lower classes and have brought themselves up to a better level-Marguerite by nursing dying people and Ash by owning a gaming hell and good investments. There first meet is funny and the chemistry is there quickly. Through twists and turns, love conquers all. I know have to find book 1 and 2 an I presume 4&5 as there are 3 half sisters, illegitimate daughters of Ash's gaming hell partner. I e...more

I would give this book a 3.5. Rating historical romance is different for me. Personally, if the story was one I could read till the end it will get a 3. There are just not that variations when it comes to a fast two day read of light romance. I haven't read the previous two books in this series. But it seems Jordan isn't as adept at weaving characters into story lines as Lisa Kleypas. This didn't detract from the story, but I wasn't compelled to read what I have missed. This is a romance light -...more

Finished it last night...

Okay... so... this is the start and finish of two different Sophie Jordan spin-off/series. Cause Marguerite was in In Scandal They Wed and Sins of A Wicked Duke. But she starts a new series - the Lost Princesses (who Grier and Cleo - her half sisters - are books one and two of that series... )

Which means I'm confused... shouldn't it be book one of the Lost Princesses? And who is book three about? Will I meet in Wicked in Your Arms or Lessons From a Scandalous Bride?

A romance novel that concentrates on the story more than the (ahem) bedroom scenes. I think it's a strong and practiced writer that can deliver on a good story and spice it up with obligatory interludes of love and sex. A woman who thinks she is destined to die after she marries decides to have an affair instead. She is abducted by her absent father's business partner who plans to marry her to validate his claim on the part of the business he has developed. That's as far as I will go with a teas...more
Once Upon
Marguerite was uprooted, by surprising events foreseen by a seer, from her bland practical life style. Having been told that she had less than a year to live, she makes a promise to herself to be more adventurous before her time is up. To add to her troubles, her long lost Dad re-appears and selfishly expects her and her two sisters, she just learns existed, to give him a place in society. She makes a decision to meet her sisters before she jumps into the new life of adventure as a kept woman, b...more

Wicked Nights with a Lover was a fun read that I had no problem getting into. Both Marguerite and Ash are very strong willed and well matched for one another. It’s not your typical abducted heroine romance, which was refreshing. Marguerite doesn’t succumb to Stockholm syndrome in two chapters, feel sorry for Ash and fall in love with him. She fights him tooth and nail, not just because she doesn’t want to fulfill the prediction, but because, hey, he abducted her, remember?

I thought Ash was a ver...more

Marguerite Laurent has never believed in the power of a fortune teller but that was before she was infromed about her death. Now Marguerite is set on living life to the fullest and that does not include staying with the man who sired her and that does not mean falling in love and that does not mean wanting to get married, but all that will change when she is kidnapped by the very man who will make this all happen.
Ash Courtland first met Marguerite out on the streets and has yet to forget her bu...more

Marguerite Laurent has been making a living as a nurse to terminally ill patients. While caring for one of her patients, she runs into a fortuneteller who says she will die before the year is out. At first Marguerite shrugs it off, but after another prediction coming true, she decides she'll make the most of the time she has left. Step one is to take a lover. The night before she and her intended paramour are supposed to leave for Spain, she's summoned to the house of her father, who she's never...more

im giving this book a three because i enjoyed the beginning and the overall premise of the plot. The character of marguerite starts out as strong and independant but becomes quickly tiresome with her fickle ways. Ash is a strong hero, hardworking unlike many of the aristocratic heroes of this genre. But overall i found the plot was all over the place and scenes seemed to have been wedged in to add more drama. A bit less running away and a bit more honesty from the heroine would have saved this o...more

Having received the edict that she will not live out the year, the main character attempts to change her fate and begin living a little differently than she has in attempt to experience life. Many others didn't enjoy this book, and I will admit it was a little light in the loafers at times, but I also think that;s what we like about romance novels. Including me :) the heroine was quirky and the hero handsome so it's a win for me :)

Such an amazing book. It didnt take long for me to get hooked into reading it. From the very beginning i didnt want to put the book down. Basically in the book Ash wants to marry one of his partners daughters so he can get a bigger share of the business but once he takes Marguerite, he is interested in her and not the business anymore. A beautifully written romance that keeps readers on the edge of their seats

Sophie Jordan took her adolescent daydreaming one step further and penned her first historical romance in the back of her high school Spanish class. This passion led her to pursue a degree in English and History.

A brief stint in law school taught her that case law was not nearly as interesting as literature - teaching English seemed the natural recourse. After several years...more

“That's what this is about then? Some blasted grudge you harbor against my father?" She muttered something indecipherable beneath her breath in a language he suspected was not English. French, perhaps? Her words were too low for him to determine. "Has the world gone mad?"
"Has it ever been sane?" he asked. He ahd decided the world a far from logical place long ago, when he'd been lost to the streets at the tender age of eight. "When you mull it over, you and I marrying is scarcely absurd. Fitting perhaps. Face it, neither of us is a feted blueblood.”
