I just love this series. Rosenfelt is able to inject humor into his stories without making the plot or the characters silly, which few mystery authors seem capable of. In this book Defense Attorney Andy Carpenter once again reluctantly decides to take on a case. Noah Galloway, a recovered drug addict, is accused of setting fire to the apartment building where his supplier lived when they cut him off. The chains placed around the doors ensured that 26 people who lived in the building died a horri...more

Just finished reading this delightful story by David Rosenfelt. I can tell a book by its cover, mainly, the inner jacket cover and Mr. Rosenfelt's photo. I recalled seeing his photo from another book of his that I enjoyed, so I picked this one up and didn't want to put it down until I was finished with the read. He had me laughing out loud at his dialogue. Laughing is good medicine and I appreciate it when I find it in a book. He brought characters to life that I cared for and there were consist...more

I read a review.
This is the first David Rosenfelt book have read although it his 12th; 3 are stand alones and nine feature the reluctant hero of this complicated mystery. I plan to read more.
The story features Andy Carpenter, a defense attorney who tries not to deal with clients and his Golden Retriever, Tara. I real life, the author and his wife live with twenty-seven Golden Retrievers. These are the un-adoptable left overs from The Tara Foundation, a rescue organization run by Mr. Rosenfelt and his wife. He g...more

Andy Carpenter is independently wealthy and a lawyer. Well, he is a lawyer but doesn’t care to take on any cases. He would much rather just take care of his dog, his girlfriend, and his dog shelter.

I was so happy to be back with Andy Carpenter and his girlfriend Laurie in Patterson, NJ. In this book Noah Galloway is sitting in prison. His wife comes to see Andy and tells him that she would like him to represent Noah. Noah feels that since he is guilty, he should just plead guilty and take his punishment. By his hand, 26 people have died due to a fire that he set when he couldn't get the drugs he wanted. At least that is the assumed story. Due to the drugs, Noah was frequently blacked out a...more
David Rosenfelt knows how to write. Once you start a book of his you can't put it down until you finish it. This is his 9th Andy Carpenter book and also has 3 stand-alones. He has the right amount of humor, seriousness, and the ability to pull you into a story. His cast of characters basically people we already know, with the exception of Marcus Clark. If anyone knows someone like Marcus I hope you are really good friends. You don't want to be on Marcus' bad side.

Not much to say about this one that I don't say about all of the Andy Carpenter books. To me, they're like candy. They're a fun diversion from the typically heavier science fiction and fantasy I read. Most of them are pretty similar in structure and tone, but that's part of their charm. There's always intrigue in the Andy Carpenter books and this was no different. This one dealt with a man on trial for a h...more

Reluctant lawyer Andy Carpenter keeps trying to avoid work. But somehow it just keeps finding him, this time in the person of Noah Galloway. Noah has been an upstanding member of society for the past several years, but the past has a way of catching up with everyone. He is not surprised when one day a knock on the door finds him arrested for the murder by arson of 26 people. Andy tries to avoid taking the case, but Noah has some information Andy wants. As it turns out, Noah was the first owner o...more
I received this book from First Reads. I normally find Whodunit books to be quite redundant, but the voice of this book made it worth reading. There were several times that I was laughing out loud. This is certainly a book I would recommend to everyone; they are good clean books with little swearing and no intense sex scenes. However, they are still flirtatious and exciting. The characters are phenomenal, and it is just so entertaining to read. I will certainly look forward to reading other Andy...more
Andy Carpenter is a happy curmudgeon. Wealthy enough not to work, he only takes a legal case when he feels compelled to do so. In this case, the defendant is responsible for Andy finding the love of his life - his dog, Tara. Noah, a former drug user, is accused of setting a devastating fatal fire 6 years ago. Noah remembers nothing of the incident, given his drug-induced state, but Andy quickly begins to suspect that Noah is innocent and sets out, with the help of his friends, to prove he's been...more
I love David Rosenfelt's books! This one is no exception. The main character, Andy Carpenter, is a reluctant lawyer. I say reluctant because he really doesn't like to work and doesn't need to thanks to a sizable inheritance. Where his true love lies is with his dog, Tara, and the rescue and placement center for dogs that he has set up with one of his former clients, also a dog lover. However, much as he dislikes attorney work, Andy always seems to get roped into defending a seemingly indefensibl...more
Love this series. Andy Carpenter is a lawyer who doesn't need to work. He inherited a fortune from his father and now prefers to spend his time taking care of his dog rescue organization, the Tara Foundation, named for the greatest golden retrieve of all time, his dog, Tara. Andy rescued Tara and always wanted to meet the person who gave her up. Several years ago, Noah Gallaway was down and out, strung out on drugs. He gave up Tara because he knew he could not care for her properly. He also thin...more
Another great audio book by David Rosenfelt. The Andy Carpenter series is great to listen to, it makes the commute time fly by. Andy Carpenter is an attorney that doesn't like to work and doesn't like to take on new cases very often. As in all of the Andy Carpenter stories, Tara, Andy's beloved golden retriever, figures prominently in this story.
In One Dog Night, Tara is the connection between Andy and his latest client. Reluctantly Andy agrees to take on the new client as a favor to Tara.

In this eighth Andy Carpenter book, Andy is pottering along happily unemployed--or at least, without a client--when he is approached by the wife of the man who has been recently arrested and charged with 26 counts of murder, the result of an arson fire several years before. Andy's cop friend Pete was the lead investigator on the case and he is not happy about Andy's involvement. Nor is Andy--he's an unusual defense attorney in that he takes only cases where he believes in the innocence of the cl...more
I truly love this series! Andy Carpenter is such a wonderfully charming fictitious character - the humour that Rosenfelt offers his narrative point of view is simply delightful. And though this marks the ninth book in the series, nothing about it is stale or formulaic! In fact, the plot here is actually one of his more complex ones presented in the series. It made the entire book a longer, richer and all in all more satisfying mystery to read. However, the book continued quite a few typos - whic...more
As a David Rosenfelt fan, it's hard to find a book of his that I haven't read, however, when I discovered this book, I also realized I've missed several. As usual, this one did not disappoint.
Independently wealthy lawyer Andy Carpenter reluctantly agrees to take the case of a man who has been in prison for six years of a "life without parole" sentence, but only because the accused once cared for Andy's beloved dog, Tara. It certainly doesn't make his job any easier that the man has confessed to...more

#9 in the Andy Carpenter series. Independently wealthy lawyer Carpenter takes only those few cases he finds irresistible.
Andy Carpenter agrees to defend recovering drug addict Noah Galloway, who's been arrested for setting a fire six years earlier that killed 26 people. Another highly enjoyable entry in the Andy Carpenter series. Tara, apparently the most wonderful dog in the world, plays a key role in getting reluctant lawyer, Andy, and his team to take on the case of a client who wants to plead guilty to mass murder. The client is convinced he set fire to a rooming house that killed all of its occupants. Andy only takes on cases where he is convinced the client is innocent and little by little he comes to the conclusion his client was framed. He takes on the...more
Andy Carpenter is doing it again. He's taking on another case to defend, a case that turns into a mystery to solve. He's a lawyer, a good one, but a very lazy one. He doesn't have to work because he's independently wealthy, so he avoids work. Once again, however, his dog, Tara, gets him involved. It's always because of Tara, which is fine because this makes for a good dog story as well as a good mystery. Plus, there is a humorous side to the story, which all works well together to make this a gr...more
Attorney Andy Carpenter gets his toughest case yet when he agrees to defend Noah Galloway on charges he murdered 26 people six years ago, a crime Noah has confessed to committing.
I love the Andy Carpenter books. Andy’s honest view of himself is refreshing – no posing as a tough guy and no superhero stunts – and his tongue in cheek descriptions are dead on. He’s also more realistic than many fictional lawyers, who have the Perry Mason-eque ability to leap the tallest piles of irrefutable evidence...more

When I went to the library to pick up an audio book, I realized I had forgotten my list that tells me where I am in a particular author's series. I then realized that the library doesn't own any other audio editions of a different author's series. This meant I had to find an alternative book to check out.
I found "One Dog Night" in the new release area. I like dogs. I like mysteries. I thought this book had potential.

This novel has some of the endearing attributes of an Andy Carpenter story, but unfortunately just ‘some.’ Missing are the customary high jinks of courtroom maneuvers which made prior novels outstanding. In this book, Andy only goes through the motions, and most of them are objected to and denied. Present, however, are the usual sardonic comments, humor and the “team” which always provide the series with an uplift.
The plot, of course, is up to the author’s accustomed standard, with Andy, Laurie,...more

This was a very enjoyable read. I looked forward to reading this.
I have read other David Rosenfelt books.
Andy Carpenter is a lawyer who really doesn't like to practice law all that much. He'd much rather work with the Dog Rescue group he is a part of. But this is a case he takes on because of a dog: his dog Tara.
Tara was once owned by Noah Galloway, former drug addict who has now been clean and sober for 6 years and works with other recovering addicts. In the midst...more

I enjoyed this book very much. I have not read many mysteries, so I have no idea how this compares to others in the genre, but from my limited experience, I think it would hold its own. The style is unlike what I've seen before: most chapters are told in the first-person by the lawyer who is solving the case, but the rest of the chapters--almost half--are in third person, showing the reader different events that certain characters may or may not know. In this way, the different pieces of the mys...more
When I received One Dog Night I laid it on the island in my kitchen turned to get a glass of ice from the refrigerator turned back and the book was gone, so I go on the hunt to find out who picked it up in that short period of a time. I look everywhere and the book is not to be found. Seldom do I go in my husband’s home office, he's an attorney and often brings work home and hates to have his train of thought broken. I decide after another run through the house, still nothing to peek in the offi...more
I thought my friend Julie was joking about the page and a half chapters, but it turns out she wasn't! I think the longest chapter was maybe three pages. This story just didn't seem as vibrant as the earlier one I read first. The point of view kept shifting throughout the story and there just wasn't as much fun. I'm going to try reading one of the first books in this series to see if I can tell a difference. I know I have my frustration with Stephanie Plum's diluted storylines as that series prog...more
This is the first book I have read by this author and I loved it. It went fast and had a great main plot with several subplots that kept me interested and turning the pages as well. Andy Carpenter takes on a case he is sure he will lose, but as he investigates with the help of us live in girlfriend/investigator and his faithful dog he find that his client could not have possibly done the evil thing everyone thinks he has, now he has to prove it and that is where it gets good.
I love me some Andy Carpenter. Andy is a schlub. He's a likeable schlub and an appealing schlub, but he's a schlub. He is saved by his golden, Tara, and his girlfriend, Laurie. Usually it's Tara who forces him to take a case...which he wouldn't normally do because a case is work but there are times when he wants to do and loves what he does and can rock it out and, as per usual, he does in this book. Another quick read with an unexpected ending and an unlikely hero. Love it.
