This book is driving me insane, but I am determined to finish it. I was actually enjoying it despite the ridiculousness of the storyline up to page 67 when I was tipped over the cliff of unbelievability into the cesspool of WTF. I am currently on page 119 and am vacillating between tearing the pages out of the ARC, throwing the book on the floor, or just putting it aside. Where to start... First of all I didn't hate Tyler's new Alpha Pack series starter - just wanted to say that up front before I started with my nits - I suspect that most of my frustration with Primal Law came from the fact that there were seeds of promise here. However, as much as I try to avoid being negative, I had a whole slew of small stuff which, for me, got in the way of liking it enough to give it more stars.

First books in a series - especially ones with one-couple-per-book romances - are notoriously tough, but my biggest nit was that world built here was one of those kitchen sink ones - you know 'threw in everything but'. Tyler's world had potential with shifters (both born and turned), vampires (mention only so far), witches, sorcerers, an exiled Fae prince and an evil company doing gene tinkering with humans but, at least what we've learned of that world so far, lacked the glue to keep it from being a mishmash of psychic powers, magic and technology. All of this could have worked but I really needed an explanation of why and how - maybe a thread with an evil scientist talking about his work to connect the dots for me. The lead in this one has two powers, three if you count shape-shifting into a wolf - one psychic, a post-cognitive gift which allows Jaxon to see the past of people he touches, and a more magical one - the ability to rewind time back a few minutes. There's also another character, Kalen Black - who I liked by the way - who is a sorcerer, who is also a necromancer and can also shift into a jaguar. And then there's Kira's evil company doing gene altering experiments to change humans into shifters. All of this could have worked but I really needed an explanation of why and how – maybe a thread with an evil scientist talking about his work to connect the dots for me.

I think the world building got in the way of the romance as well. There is plenty of steamy stuff - Tyler writes other romances as Jo Davis and erotic romances as Jo Carlise, and her erotic roots are apparent here in the frequency, length, and detail (and a wee bit of language) of the sex scenes. But since the powerful pull of the mating bond does most of the work to jump the romance into the steamy stuff and the fact that in this 'world' it is literally mate bond or die for the hero, I felt the attraction between the starring pair, but I never really connected with Kira and Jaxon or felt the shift from lust to 'love'.

When added to my frustration with the precog leader who for the most part won't use that foreknowledge and my disbelief in the former military Alpha's lax security standards about who they allow to wander about their compound and how they make decisions to set potentially dangerous prisoners free (and an ending that was telegraphed from about midway through the story) and the result was that for me Primal Law ended up being okay. However, even though Primal Law had some rough edges, all that ambitious world building still offers potential for the Alpha series as a whole and I think that Tyler may still pull this together in the next book, and since I am interested some of the other leading men-to-be (Kalen in particular), I will likely give this series another shot. There are few things I find sillier than books that haphazardly mix popular romance tropes. The thought process goes something like this: “if readers like heroes that are shifters, Navy SEALs, have psychic powers, belong to a brotherhood of men fighting evil and have fated mates, wouldn’t they love a hero who is/has ALL of the above?” **eye roll** I know it’s fantasy but to take a story seriously, I need to see some internal logic.

I loved this book! Yes another shifter book, but I don't care. Jaxon is a shifter with special abilities. I really like the way that they shifters were described in this book. I like that their unique abilities that aren't usually associated with shifter, vamps sure but not shifters. I mean shooting fire out of your hands? Bending time? Loved that all the guys were hot but more in a rough sexy way. Kira was so funny. I liked the way that she spoke her mind and she was compassionate to the other...more

My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed this story. It faintly reminded me of BDB, Psy-Changeling, Dark Hunters feel too it only they were shifters and other. I liked Jax and Kira together and separately. As tiny as Kira was, she had the heart of the warrior with a strong sense of right and wrong. But, her empathic abilities allowed her to feel for and care for others which was apparent in how well the residents of Block R responded to her. Jax *sigh*...who doesn't love a strong, protective alpha male. He was fiercely loyal to the Alpha Pack and to Kira. Jax's suffering as a result of the mating bond was honorable and sexy. He didn't want to force the bond onto Kira if she didn't want it. He wanted to give her the time she needed to love him and accept their bond *dreamy sigh*.

The pacing of the story was very well done. Characters were well thought out and developed and the plot was interesting and suspenseful. I loved the secondary characters too. Sariel, Kalen, Nick (who reminded me of Acheron from the Dark Hunters) and even little Chup made the story wonderfully detailed. I look forward to seeing what happens next for Sariel and Kalen. It broke my heart when Jax bended time and the hurt, dejected look that Aric gave him as he was captured. I was hoping that Jax could somehow pull off saving Kira and Aric. I hate Beryl...just gonna put it out there. I could feel how hateful of a character that she was even though we only got brief glimpses of her in the story. It was a shocking reveal to find out that she and Aric were related. That should be an interested story once it is unraveled.

All in all...a very engaging read.

There were bits and parts of the story that were too unrealistic for me, I like them to be a bit more realistic to allow me to really like the book and believe it.

Jaxon is a military guy officially on leave for the weekend and looking for a good time in Vegas, until he’s thrown into the middle of Kira’s little plan and everything goes to hell.
Thrown together by circumstance, the two must work with one another, though the one thing they’ll have to work hardest at is making a decision what to do about the undeniable attraction between them.
The character premise of this book was amazing… Shifters who each have additional psychic gifts as well, working together to rid the world of the bad guys, both human and non.

The minute you meet each of the characters and learn their affinities, you develop an instant love for them, even if you already liked them before based on personality alone, you can’t help but start to pick your favorites and wish for the next books in the series before the first is even finished. Add to that the fact that each and every one of them have a back-story that defines them and you have the first book of a series that will have you swearing because you have to wait for the next installment.

This book has everything; and I mean everything!! Shifters of multiple varieties, gremlins, sorcerers, necromancers, Fey, special-ops soldiers, government conspiracies, romance, mystery, action, wit… I could go on and on. I read several reviews that said that it was overdone and unbelievable. Hello, it’s paranormal! As LITERAL ADDICTION’s motto says, “Beyond the natural and the normal lie the Supernatural and Paranormal. Anything less…. Just isn’t enough!”
The storyline was jam packed, but in my personal opinion, not overwhelming in the least. It had a logical flow –beginning, crescendo, end – that had me literally vocalizing my discontent, excitement, etc while reading, and reading the last page with one though firmly in mind, “Aw, come on! I have to wait until 2012!!?”. :-)

LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives this book 5 Skulls and would recommend it to Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy, and Magick and Shifter fans far and wide. As some of the low rating reviews will tell you though, if you’re looking for a simple, single storyline PNR, this is not it! If you’re looking for a fast paced, action packed romance overflowing with paranormal that will have you squealing from mid-book throughout…this is a definite read!!

First, I must say that to me this author and story line has a lot of potential. I will be reading the rest of this series, but I am hoping that the both gain more depth as it goes on.

This book seemed to move a little too fast in some ways. I felt rushed reading it, and then would hit a spot with details that showed how much more it could have been all the way through.

3-3.5 stars. I enjoyed the overall story, but there were things that happened in this book that I felt just happened way too easily & too fast. However, I did like it enough to continue with the series and I enjoyed the secondary characters as well. I'm really hoping it does get better in the future books.

โดยรวมเรื่องนี้ไม่มีอะไรใหม่เลยนะคะ ทุกอย่างเป็นไปตามสูตรหนังสือแนวพารานอมอลมาก พระเอกที่เป็นชิฟเตอร์ นางเอกที่เป็นคู่แท้ บอกตามตรงนะคะ เราไม่รู้สึกว่ามีอะไรใหม่ในเรื่องราวเลย การจับเอาบรรดาชิฟเตอร์มาตั้งเป็นหน่วยทหารก็ดูน่าสนใจดี แต่โครงสร้างของเรื่องกลับไม่ชัดเจน อ่านแล้วก็งง ทำไมเอาเอฟบีไอมาเป็นหัวหน้าทีม ใครกันแน่ที่มีอำนาจบัญชาการหน่วยอัลฟา แพคนี้ จะบอกว่าเราเรื่องมากก็อาจพูดได้นะคะ แต่เราคิดว่า อย่างน้อยรายละเอียดจุดนี้ก็น่าจะชัดเจน ถ้าจะบอกว่า เป็นหน่วยงานผสมก็น่าจะบอกไป แต่นี่ไม่มีคำอธิบาย

คาแร็คเตอร์เปิดตัวแบบให้คนอ่านเกิดความรู้สึกอยากอ่านมาก ๆ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นหัวหน้าทีม (ก็เอฟบีไอที่พูดไปนั่นแหละ) ที่เป็นชิฟเตอร์แต่กำเนิด เรื่องก็ไม่บอกนะว่า มาจากไหน จริง ๆ เรื่องไม่บอก เราก็ว่าไม่เท่าไหรหรอกค่ะ แต่งงตรงที่สมาชิกในทีมที่อดีตเป็นแค่มนุษย์ธรรมดา กลับไม่รู้สึกว่าอยากจะถามกันเลยหรือไง ทำไมถึงรับสภาพตัวเองได้ดีขนาดนั้น

ความสามารถพิเศษของเจซอนก็เป็นอีกประเด็นที่เราไม่ชอบ เขาสามารถบังคับเวลาได้ ซึ่งการเอาประเด็นนี้มาใช้สำหรับเรา มันเสี่ยงมากนะคะ เพราะการบังคับให้เวลาย้อนกลับได้ ก็เหมือนกับการที่ตัวละครเป็นคนแต่ง สามารถเปลี่ยนแปลงเหตุการณ์ทุกอย่างที่เกิดขึ้นได้ และในเล่มนี้มันก็เกิดขึ้น จะทำให้เราเชื่อได้ยังไงว่า เขาจะไม่ทำอย่างนั้นอีก เพื่อให้ผลลัพธ์แตกต่างออกมาจากบทสรุปที่ได้จากเล่มนี้(less)

I found the story slow to get into at first, which was disappointing as I really wanted to like it from the beginning. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of action and enough hotness to wet your appetite (hot, tattooed Navy SEALS shifters) but I've read quite a few books in this genre so maybe I'm becoming hard to please, I don't know. I give the author kudos for creating fairly complex backstory before beginning the new novel. However, there's a bit too much going on, some of which doesn't make as much sense as I'd like in my world crafting.

Can I give a book more then a 5 rating? No...hmmm...well that kind of stinks cause I want to give this one more! This book falls in my top 5 favorite shifter books ever and I read a lot of shifter books!

He is a tortured hero who has done everything in his power to protect the ones he loves. When a mission goes bad, he takes it very personally and he needs the love of the right women to heal his emotional hurt along with the physical. Kira...well, Kira just simply rocks. She is strong, determined, smart, and able to stand her ground in a house full of alpha power. She definitely knows how to put Jaxon on his knees. She didn't freak out when she found out about everything, nor did she turn into a whiny cry baby who needed to be coddled. NO..she stepped in and made her place in Jaxon's world and I respected her all the more for that.

I don't know about you but I feel that there has to be just the right balance of dialogue and thought to make a book flow well. Too much of either and you are either confused or bored. Not the case here, there is a lot of dialogue and banter between all the characters and just enough thought and back story for you to completely understand what is going on.

Ms. Tyler has created a world unlike any other I have read about. This book has all the things that I need in a romance novel for it to be complete. It has a strong H/H, a lot of amazing secondary characters, witty dialogue that will have you smiling, a great plot that flows well and is well thought out, and an ending that makes you crave more. Oh and did I mention this book is HOT! Oh my! The intimacy is just the right balance of heat and emotion, and will have you fanning yourself by the end.

Great start to a new series, and a new author for me. I am eager for book 2 of the Alpha Pack series.
Jax & Kira have great chemistry, their bond is tight and fast, tho sometimes a bit annoying. Kira had a holier than thou attitude quite a bit which grew tedious but Jax makes up for it overall. Hell, Jax is a lethal mix of Navy SEAL, Psychic, Wolf, Timebender...what more can a gal ask for?? LOVE him!

I liked the idea of Alpha Pack, and it was interesting to read about the world and headquarters that Tyler has created for her characters, along with the various creatures that she populates it with.

Kira and Jaxon are both likable enough characters, as are the other members of Alpha Pack, and there's some amusing banter in places, especially between the guys. However, I thought that Kira accepted the idea of shapeshifters and everything else that she encounters way too easily, and I thought the pack accepted and trusted her way too easily as well. Basically, Kira almost immediately becomes part of the pack's inner circle. That just didn't seem all that believable to me, since the group is supposed to be so secretive and tight-knit.

Also, I would have liked a lot more forward movement on the conspiracy plot. Kira and Jaxon figure out that someone is trying to create a breed of super-shifters, but there are definitely more questions than answers at the end of the book, which I thought was frustrating.

Overall, this book didn't work for me, but if you like paranormal romance with shapeshifters, you might want to give it a shot.(less)

Shifters, angels and the Fae characters make for fascinating reading as this author debuts her Alpha Pack series.

Kira Locke is lab assistant who suspects her boss of something terrible. One night, she steals some of his tissue samples but is caught! On the run, she manages to escape the lab. Unfortunately, the guards are able to hunt her down when her car breaks down and she is forced to flee by foot. But luckily Kira is saved by a large dog. However, this 'dog' soon morphs into a gorgeous if naked man named Jax! Soon Kira finds herself part of the Alpha Pack: men with supernatural skills who can also shift into wolves.

Jax injured his leg after a mission gone wrong. During this mission many of his close friends were killed. While trying to recover and relax, he hears a scream for help. Jax knows he must save this unknown woman. She calls to him and her scent drives him crazy. But while rescuing her he reveals his shifter nature to her. Since their top clandestine team must remain secret, he can never let her go...

The prologue really drew me in as Jax and his team are betrayed and he finds his lover is responsible. The author really knows how to get the reader interested in the Alpha Pack and all their different personalities. This series reminded me a bit of Christine Feehan's Ghost Walker series, and I really would like to read about the other members. However, Kira and Jax relationship seemed a bit sudden and too coincidental. And their relationship was not as completely developed as I expected. This could be because I did not find Kira interesting. I thought it was a little strange how quickly Kira accepts staying with the Alpha Pack (She does not protest for her freedom.) and adjusts to the men as being shifters. I was also struck at she doesn't even seem scared of them as normal person would initially. The heroine was just too unbelievable. As a result, her sections dragged a bit. However, I soon found myself immersed in the story and enjoying the camaraderie of the Alpha Pack members, even though much of the plot often seems too coincidental or pat. I would especially love to read more about the winged character named Blue.

Quick and easy to read. Those who enjoy paranormal and werewolf stories will like this new series. I enjoyed the mythology of the Alpha Pack members and their auxiliary characters but the heroine was somewhat bland.

If you’re looking for a good shifter romance with some secret military special ops guys thrown into the mix grab this book. It is filled with an amazing cast of characters, a variety of different species of beings, and a spicy romance between a very alpha male and a clever lead female that has a healthy dose of iron will.

Hmmm where to start. This book was okay. It's got the general set up for a PNR series. Hot supernatural guys all living in some kind of compound and none of them looking for a forever type of woman. Mostly enjoying their hotness and women willing to take what little they were offering.

There is some action and world building that always slows down a new series and honestly Tyler didn't drag out the world building the story never felt like it was dragging. There were some interesting characters that I found myself wanting to learn more about. So the potential is there and I still think the series has potential to be better. But this book seems to read as stilted. Nothing really flowed. I never felt fully engaged with the characters. I never believed the love part of the story. There are so many plot lines being thrown in without much connection until the end and yet you see it coming. Does that even make since? I'm sure I'm not explaining this right, but there it is. Then new powers never mentioned become apparent at the perfect time. It was like the author wasn't even sure where the story was going until it got there and not in a good way. We had barely met all the current players in the story and new guys are turning up all over the place to join the team. While many seem interesting it isn't giving us time to get to know any of the key players in the series. Don't get me started on how badly the military aspect was done. Confidential is confidential no matter if your sleeping with a hot woman who is the best lay of your life. Sorry I had to say it. And regardless of how many visitors this facility has they would still have security measures. And not a single one of these guys seems to scream Navy Seal to me. Okay I'm starting to get off topic and feeling a little like a rant. And honestly if it was just one of the things I could ignore it, but it's the combination of issues that are killing this book for me.

Jax and Kira had potential as great leads to me. There were moments when Kira was really good early in the book. There was one moment when Kira let Jax have it that I was relieved she wasn't going to be one of those heroines.(view spoiler) After the obvious fact that no one cared about that I didn't see the reason they weren't just mates and getting it over with. And truly hated the you die if you don't mate thing. Honestly that really makes the question of mating a bit null unless the man or woman is a real piece of work. Considering this there has to be some emphasis on the blooming romance for the love aspect to ever feel believable, but this story reads more like some time in the sack and some possessive growling, throw in some military missions and we have a HEA.

I already own the next book and will read it. Like I said the potential is there and I hope we can get to know some of the current characters better. Really interested in the new guy Black and the fae prince Blue. Don't be worried to much by the name. Black is last name, and Blue is a nick name. (less)

So I finished listening to this one and I have to say I cannot decide, was it a bad story or just told poorly. It is light on details, which in an erotic romance can be forgiven if the sex and chemistry is off the charts, which in this book is decidedly not the case.

I feel like this is at the heart of it, a lukewarm retelling of a story that has frankly been told over and over. And yet, there were glimmers...

I'll start off by saying that I LOVED this book! It was everything a paranormal romance should be and more. Jaxon Law is an ex Navy SEAL and a wolf shifter, made not born and he's also a member of a top secret group of shifter's(they all also have other nifty abilities) who hunt down dangerous shifters, other non-human's and humans and either eliminate or rehabilitate them. While trying to unwind for a weekend in Vegas he hears a woman scream and he rushes to her rescue. When he gets there he doesn't just find a woman in distress, he finds his mate! Kira Locke, who I love, has just stumbled onto a horrible secret(but doesn't know what it is exactly) and she's running from some pretty bad guys who don't want that secret spilled. Thanks to Jaxon she is saved from them and wisked away to their secret compound in the Shoshone National Forest where they all try to find out exactly what she's found.

There is lots of action, lots of lovin' and lots of big sexy wolf shifter's. Oh and I can't forget the sexy Royal Seelie fairy and the scorcerer/panther shifter. I read through other people's reviews of this book before and again after I read it and some have a point. Yes, she threw in a LOT of extra info, but I think that info is needed for the future books. I know there is at least one future book in this series....please please please let there be a bunch more.

My favorite characters would have to be Sariel, the royal Seelie fairy and Kalen Black, the panther shifter/scorcerer. I know the main characters should be favorites, but I can't help it. Kalen sounds SO HOT, and come on a panther....YUM!!! And then there is Sariel, who is tall, blue and has wings.....I love different characters like this one. And I really hope they each get a book of their own later on.

Back to the main characters...Jax has been through hell and has trust issues because of an evil past lover, but he sticks it outs and when he falls, he falls hard. And Kira is such a sweetheart but don't let that fool you. She's also pretty tough and can hold her own with the gorgeous wolf shifter.

So I recommend you at least check it out and try because it promises to turn into an awesome series, and there are quite a few big sexy shifters who will probably get their own happy ending too. :)

Well I picked this up at Borders because it had werewolves and I love werewolves! However I was a little disappointed in the writing. This really was quite similar to Lora Leigh's Breeds (which I love) but that really wasn't the whole problem. It seemed liked the author threw in everything but the kitchen sink in the paranormal world she set up. Several times I rolled my eyes at what was going on or being said because it was soooo over the top. I liked the characters of Jaxon and Kira but the were all over the place character wise. Sometimes I just couldn't believe some of the things Jaxon would do or say to Kira and Kira's reactions sometimes didn't make sense either. As the story progressed it did get better and there were fewer scenes that were over the top to me, maybe because I got use to the writing style.

One of my biggest complaints/WTF moments was one similarity to the Breed series. She tried to show that Jaxon and Kira had a mating heat (without the barbs and tongue liquid) with the itching and illness but it just didn't make sense to me with him being sick like the flue until he bit her and taking away of the powers (which they said would be weeks but seemed to be only days in the story). That to me made no sense because he was basically powerless to help his mate? Why would Mother Nature do that? And giving him her blood before he bit her to make him better? Can't say that would work since there was no bond yet and he was that way because there was no bond. If it made him better what was the incentive to become mates and not just share blood?

A second main complaint is that on top of being werewolves they all had super powers too. It just seem a little over the top that they ALL had powers even Kira.

I did like the variety of characters even though some were just out there (like the Blue fairy Sariel aka Blue,and the gremlin Chup Chup). The leader Nick being a natural born werewolf in a group of made werewolves was interesting. Some characters such as Raven and Baliel I think were introduced and will probably be featured in the next books in the series.

So overall a little too over the top but some good gems as well to keep me reading. I will probably try and get the next one from a book trade/swap or the library.

Not a perfect read but very enjoyable and I definitely want to continue the series.

If you like series' that fall along the lines of BDB, Breed, and LOTU, but in this instance you have a pack of shifters who are a part of a secret military group, you might enjoy this! The characters are for the most part intriguing and likeable. It's an easy read, if not sometimes quite predictable, but my interest was definitely peaked to continue the series. This is a good beginning for a new series and while I'm generally not a big fan of prologues, in this case I'm glad one was included. It really enabled the reader to get a good idea of how Jax and his team was betrayed and his lover involved before it jumps into the present.

There's lots of action from the very beginning when Jax rescues Kira. Those opening scenes are well done and gives the reader a taste of what to expect as the story continues BUT the relationship of Jax and Kira just started...more

To be perfectly honest I had mixed feelings about this book. I had trouble getting past the halfway point but after that I liked it alright. The first half of the book was very iffy for me. It usually takes me untill book 2 to really get to enjoy a book series
but I've got to say I'm hooked on this one right from the start
I mean its got everything - a hero who's descripiton and my sexy imagination
looks like a pirate (tatoo's, ear piercing, gotee... thank you jaysus)
