When M.J. Holliday and the crew of her cable TV show, "Ghoul Getters," venture to the haunted ruins of Dunlow Castle in Ireland, drawn by the legend of hidden treasure, they hope the road will rise up to meet them, that the wind will always be at their backs-and that the resident phantom won't push them off a cliff. If they treasure their lives, M.J. and her ghost busters...more

A grown-up mix of Scooby Doo and Nancy Drew, GHOULS, GHOULS, GHOULS was a light, quick read that blends a realistic present day with a dash of the spirit world. An entertaining ghost story to fill a few hours, the characters of GHOULS, GHOULS, GHOULS didn’t leave enough of an impression for me to hurry out and pick up the rest of the series.

The ghostly aspects of the story were my favorite parts of the book, dusting a classic mystery procedural with ectoplasm. Victoria Laurie definitely wrote th...more

I love this series and recommend it all the time as a library assistant. However, I don't think this installment was as strong as Laurie's other books. A strange consistency error in Gilley's physique (in one chapter, he's so out of shape he can barely make it up the stairs; a few pages later, M.J. calls upon his championship cross country skills for a rescue; then he's back to over eating and out of shape) kept me flipping around to make sense of the story. The premise is great; I love the cast...more

This series revolves around the premise that the main characters can see ghosts and other phantasms, interact with them, and either banish them or send them on to the light (which I have always read as a euphemism for going to Heaven). MJ (Mary Jane) and her cast, who I hesitate to label her friends, are on site in Ireland to film a television spot for a US network. The people of the village refuse to help, although they are free with their advice, information, and warnings, as the crew tries to...more

I really enjoyed this installment of the Ghost Hunter mysteries! In this one, M. J., a psychic medium with a cable TV show, arrives with her crew in Ireland to "ghost-bust" an isolated castle rumored to have a buried treasure as well as being haunted by a violent ghost that is blamed for several horrible deaths. Lured by the promise of the fabled treasure, they arrive to investigate, hampered by the fact that the castle is built on something of an island that is only accessible by a causeway dur...more

For the next episode in their cable TV show "Ghoul Getters", M.J. Holliday and crew travel to Ireland to visit Dunlow, a haunted Irish castle. M.J. knows the shoot will be difficult as the castle is on an island and cannot be reached at times. But even she, who has had plenty of experience with ghosts, is knocked off her feet - literally - by a powerful phantom, who is guarding some hidden gold. Some people who have encountered this phantom have died, and M.J. isn't willing to risk her life and...more

Peter Gophner (aka, Gopher) the producer of M.J. Holliday's new cable television show Ghoul Getters, has found the perfect location. Dunlow Castle in Ireland, built on a rock that's only accessible via a causeway at low tide, is believed to be haunted by a malevolent phantom that is guarding a treasure of Spanish doubloons. This phantom has supposedly killed more than one disbelieving gold-hunter.

What happens when they actually arrive at the castle is classic. The phantom fills its victim's mind...more

I haven't read a book I have liked this much in a while. From the beginning I was sucked in. Maybe it was the ghost thing or maybe it was the fact the story was set in Ireland? Either way Victoria Laurie has a new fan in me! I definitely DO recommend. I realize I read the series out of order. I didn't realize it when I was at the library. I had my son with me and well he was ready to go. We all know how 6 year olds can be when they are done with something LOL. So I picked this up and thought "h...more

After taking on a haunted underground passage in Scotland for their new show Ghoul Getters, MJ Holiday and crew's next assignment takes them to the haunted Dunlow Castle in Ireland. Hoping for some Irish luck, after crossing the causeway, which is only accessible at low tide, they hear a voice calling out for Alex. Many have come looking for treasure, but only to lose thir lives or sanity to a menacing phantom the likes MJ and company have never encountered before!

Dreams from the original lord...more

I love this series by Victoria Laurie. But this one left me high and dry. The plot seemed to go around in endless circles. Back and forth. Back and forth. To the haunted castle with the big bad phantom. I'm not quite sure what was missing in this installment but something was. Where was the humor? And the fun? So much sturm und drang. Perhaps the next one might be a tad more fun.

Again as i said in review for 3rd book, story was good but the fact is that i just dont feel at all the chemistry between M.J. and Heath, yes they are great on a PROFESSIONAL level but other than that it wasn't there for me and Im not all that interested in the next book because of that but I'm still going to read it cause it is a good series.

Author Victoria Laurie comes up with an intriguing story idea in "Ghouls, Ghouls, Ghouls." A haunted castle, hidden treasure, murderous phantom, and a history of tragedies befalling previous ghost- and treasure hunters are a formula for a great mystery. The formula fell a little flat, though, as the there was no real character development and the lack of a subplot left me dizzy with the only action yo-yo-ing between two locations. This mystery fell a little flat, a few of the clues were so blata...more

Still nicely written and a fun read. I still love Laurie and both of her series, but there was something about this book that didn't sit right with me. The setting was lovely, the research thorough to make it believable, but parts felt very repetitious, and ultimately the thing that bothered me the most was the vibe I got from MJ. She was very immature and didn't seem to grow at all in this book. I don't remember this problem in any of the others. I just couldn't get past that. I've started read...more

Alas, I realized part way through this book that I had missed reading book 4, but Laurie adequately filled in the reader in the necessary backstory.

I truly loved the foreign setting of this novel. Atmosphere reigned supreme here, and Laurie carried it off excellently. I felt like Laurie's ability to craft a mystery also went up one or two notches, and I found myself reading this book not only for the paranormal aspect, but for the mystery as well.

I am more anxious than ever to read the missed 4t...more

I absolutely love Victoria Laurie's Ghost Hunter (M.J.) Series but seriously something was up with this book. First off, am I the only one who thought that the first and second books happened within months of eachother and that the third one followed pretty closely? Maybe it's just me but when M.J. stated that her and Steven had dated for nearly two years I was a little thrown off. Anyway, my gosh! Were the characters in this book incredibly ann...more

I was thrilled to see another book had come out in both of Victoria Laurie's paranormal mystery series while my back was turned. I opted to read this one first because I find M. J. Holliday and her best friend Gilley Gillespie (that's Gil for short) to be quirkier and more amusing much of the time. Ghosts and demons get up to more wacky hi-jinx than your average medium apparently!

This outing finds the crew of M. J.'s show Ghoul Getters in Ireland investigating a castle that has everything, thoug...more

I'm a regular reader of this series, so I must like it well enough. And, odd considering my following complaints, this was a 3-star for me (I think because it did creep me out a little. But what doesn't??) That said, there are some things that annoy the crud out of me that I have to get off my chest. a) MJ calling everyone "buddy". It just doesn't ring true for some reason. It also reminds me of an extremely annoying girl that I went to high school with. MJ, in general, isn't as likable as a her...more

Ghouls, Ghouls, Ghouls (Ghost Hunter Mysteries, No. 5) finds MJ Holliday and the cast of Ghoul Getters in Ireland, investigating a haunted castle. However, this is no ordinary haunted castle, this castle boasts a phantom and a legend of lost treasure. Upon their arrival in Ireland, the team finds that several treasure hunters before them have lost either their lives or their sanity trying to locate the lost treasure of Dunlow Castle.

MJ is back, helping lost spirits and busting evil ones. She's g...more

The whole premise of this series is terrific- MJ can talk to ghosts and she and her team travel to mostly exotic locales to film for a TV show called Ghoul Getters. The thing that bothers me about this series is that MJ has a best friend since childhood, a gay male, who the author portrays as a childish nitwit in what I feel is a derogatory way. Okay, so the guy is gay. Does he have to always be wimpering and looking for chocolate or other food? Gay or not, no mentally sane adult should be portr...more

Really enjoyed this book. If you are not open to physic ability or do not have an open mind to the possibility that ghosts and demons exist, you may not like this book. I am not saying I believe wholeheartedly, but I think I am open. I was attracted to this book because I love watching GhostHunters on the SciFi channel. They have a more "scientific" approach to ghost hunting than this book. (How scientific, I'm not sure, but I still enjoy watching this show.)

Besides hunting ghosts, the two main...more

I’ve been a huge fan of Victoria Laurie since I read the first Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye book a few years ago. I adore reading about that feisty psychic detective and her often near-fatal mishaps. However, when I read the first MJ Holliday book, I was completely hooked. If you haven’t read the other books in the series (you really should), MJ Holliday is a medium/ ghost buster. In the early books, she worked more or less alone, with only the assistance of her trusty sidekick Gilly. In the later b...more

This is a paranormal mystery series with a bit of a romantic element. The series features M.J. Holliday, a medium & ghost-hunter and her friend/business partner/side-kick, Gilly. Each book has them up against some sort of ghostly problem and they seem to get more interesting & dangerous with each book. The books could stand alone, but they're better in order as there is a progression in the "missions" as well as the lives of the characters.

This particular book has M.J., Gilly, a...more

Victoria Laurie has two series: Abby Cooper Psychic Eye and this one, Ghost Hunter...I started with Abby Cooper, but when I found MJ and the gang in Ghost Hunter, that was the winner of the two series. I enjoy watching MJ and her peeps bust ghost butt in haunted houses and hotels. Now they are in Ireland and looking for treasure in uber haunted Dunlow Castle.

For goodness sake, give Gilley a Scooby Snack and call it a day.

I really had high hopes for this book since Victoria Laurie seemed to have broken away from the Scooby Doo feel with her last book Ghouls Gone Wild. But I got my hopes up too soon. This book was little more than Scooby-Doo and the Haunted Castle. Unfortunately, we have all seen this episode before.

When Daphne, oops I mean MJ Holidays is called out to investigate a haunted castle in Ireland as part of a new episode of her Ghoul Gett...more

I did it again! I devoured Victoria Laurie's latest Ghost Hunter mystery, Ghouls Ghouls Ghouls, in 1 day!! It's amazing how fast a read it can be, even at 336 pages! But for some reason her Ghost Hunter mysteries are just super fast fun reads for me!! And Ghouls Ghouls Ghouls was just as wonderful as the previous books in the series!

This time M.J. and her crew, minus Steven now since the events of Ghouls Gone Wild, find themselves in Ireland to go to a very haunted island where treasure is burie...more

Ghouls, Ghouls, Ghouls is an incredibly silly and yet enjoyable read. Imagine a PG-13 version of Scooby Doo where Daphne and Fred are in a fledgling relationship and it turns out that ghosts are real and you’ve basically got the tone of this book.

In this installment M.J. and her crew of Ghost Getters are in Ireland. She and Heath are trying to rid a castle of its malevolent spirit and find some buried treasure all in the name of good reality television. Just as they get started filming, their pr...more

This book was great! It didn't disappoint at all. This time M.J. and her crew travel to Ireland to film at the haunted Dunlow Castle as there is a big fat mystery surrounding the resident ghouls, one chillingly creepy badass phantom like never before, and some rumoured gold thrown into the mix. It's up to the Ghoul Getters team to solve it and finally rid the castle of the frightening phantom and connect the dots regarding the tortured ghosts who passed years before. I for one am always creeped...more

Since I read Victoria Laurie's Abby Cooper, I know that the rest are absolutely amazing and I've been waiting patiently for every book that's released under her name.

Victoria outdone herself with this book once again. I simply love the creepy ghosts and the mystery behind it. You can really tell the evil of the Phantom and how it can bring the worst fears in you. Brrr!

It gets more exciting as you go deeper and deeper in the mystery. Awesome! Looking forward for GHOULS INTERRUPTED.

While I am not going to get into the details of the book (you'll just have to read it yourself), I have to say I LOVE this book. This was the first book in the series that I picked up and it was so easy to get into the characters and story lines. I enjoyed it so much that I had to tell my friends kids to read it too.

I really couldn't think of anything I didn't like in the story. I think the characters are well built and very real. There are real life scenarios that could be portrayed on today's...more

The Psychic eye series has a different spin to it. The series is a little edgier than some and the concept centers around a female ghosthunter, her best friend from childhood and a cast of TV personnel who help film the series on paranomal sleuthing around the world. Love the characters for this series (as well as Victoria's other series, Abby Cooper). These are such fun books to relax with. Been a fan of MJ & friends since the first book and the stories keep getting better.
