o Summary: This book is a sequel to a previous book that is about dogs named Jack and Annie. Jack and Annie are St. Bernards that help in many natural disasters in the book previous to this. Kinda surprised to see Balto here. I'd never heard of Balto until I was an adult and ran across him (literally his stuffed carcass) in a museum. Now he keeps popping up in these books. Is the story of Balto really that well known? At least this book spent a decent amount of time detailing the life and times of modern search and rescue dogs and service dogs. It's nice to know dogs are very much in need today and still have important jobs to do.

The authors give a great deal of information on dogs and how they are heroes in a very short book. It also has a place in the back showing other books to read and other places to search for information on dogs.

From this book, I have come to know that dogs are not just for pets, they can be heroes in their own ways.

Really liked the way they talk about how to do research, apart from the information on the dog heroes profiled in the book. Nice little pocket history.

I loved most of this book but I could not read the part about 9/11/2001 to my child. At six, he is not ready to hear about a dog dying while trying to help humans.
