A man flying from Brazil to London is sick and a few days later is diagnosed with smallpox. Doctors fight to contain the epidemic while getting tangeled up in the counterfeiting ring he is a part of.

The weirdest thing for me was to keep reminding myself that this book was written pre-smallpox eradication. And the mindset and plans in place for the epidemic were already there and real. It's a different world now where smallpox is gone except for the possibility of a terrorist attack.
