A few years ago I came across Ms. Koehler and this series. The books started out with a bang but unfortunately they have slowly begun to tail off. Night Falls on the Wicked was like tiring to drink oatmeal through a straw. Slow as hell and not very satisfying.

The writing style was this melancholic twaddle with the heroine needing a good dose of a supernatural enthusiasm. The books started out with a bang but unfortunately they have slowly begun to tail off. Night Falls on the Wicked was like tiring to drink oatmeal through a straw. Slow as hell and not very satisfying.

The writing style was this melancholic twaddle with the heroine needing a good dose of a supernatural enthusiasm. Darby has spent virtually her entire adult life living in cold places in order to keep the Demon who is seeking her soul at bay. Who knew, demons can't wear layers to conquer their subjects. In any event she has basically put her life and her dreams on hold working in diners and moving on before she can develop any real attachments to folks.

Enter Niklas who was probably the most one dimensional hero written in any of Ms. Kohler's book. He is a Dovenatu meaning he can change at will and is not subject to the pull of a full moon to pillage and kill. He lives to seek his Alpha so that he can kill him and both avenge his mother and return to be a human minus the whole werewolf thing. So he is led to where Darby is and the spate of brutal murders that have been attributed to wolves in the area.

The kitchen sink in this book is a kid called Aimee who is on the run with her mother from an abusive father/husband. Her mother is killed and Darby manages to escape with this young child who unfortunately is bitten and now destined to be a ravenging murderess. SUDDENLY, Darby sense of life and justice is awakened, and she feels she MUST RIGHT THE WRONG OF THIS INNOCENT CHILD'S FUTURE BEING TAKEN AWAY IN ONE BITE. Not to mention that Niklas becomes just too tempting to resist and they hit the sheets in the midst of it all. As I am sure you know, love triumphs, Niklas owns up to who he is and uses his alter ego to attempt to rescue his woman, Darby takes one for the team and even though things don't always go as planned.... HAPPY BUT MUDDLED ENDING.

I HATE when series I love kinda go off the rails and this book was one. What I could not understand (bear with me on this one). Why the solitude? Especially when they come across cool ass Darius who is obviously as different as they are and existing is what appeared to be a much nicer way than our 2 loners. I would think there is strength in numbers and the fact that Darby knew characters from another book but still kept to herself is beyond me.

The other unbelievable was the end when they just drop this kid off at Grandma, No questions asked? Scuse me but where is DFS? How'd you get to my door. How do Darby and Niklas know grandma can take care of the kid and Grandma, why no questions like Aimee where's mommie.

I wasted my money and time on this one and should she deign to put another in the series out I am taking a pass.(less)

So, she is constantly on the run and alone. Her next destination is Alaska. But Darby regrets leaving the latest small town where people are friendly, and she ‘almost’ fits in. Before she can leave, there is a rash of murders in the community. Darby soon realizes that deadly werewolves are killing the population. When she meets a mysterious stranger named Niklas, she is hypnotized by his beauty but also realizes he maybe more than he seems….

Niklas is also a werewolf but unlike other werewolves, he is not ruled by his vicious 'wolf' nature. He is the only one to actually have a soul. His mother sacrificed herself so he could have a life. Now he seeks to kill the werewolf who bit him and get vengeance for the loss of his mother. But he can't help but be distracted by the lovely witch named Darby, even if it may cause his mission to fail.

This was a well written paranormal romance. I liked the author’s twist that werewolves are actually evil. The main characters are trying to prevent the werewolves from causing harm. Niklas is incredibly sexy, and I liked that Darby was the first human being besides his mother that he could finally let himself care for. Both characters were so alone and on solitary missions to protect others. I enjoyed reading them finding someone who could love and appreciate each of their admirable qualities. The only thing I was a bit disappointed in was that the author did not have Darby really use her witch powers very much. The plot is driven by the rash of werewolf killings. The hunt is pretty straightforward if dangerous and exciting to read. I liked that the villain was pure evil. However, much of the story focuses the budding and fragile relationship between the two loners, which is very poignant and satisfying.

In short, this book is about two supernatural beings that fight to save a town from evil werewolves. I loved their desperate hunt and the blossoming love between the two main characters.

Niklas was sixteen when he was bitten by a werewolf. His mother was a white witch. She made a deal with a demon that she would allow herself to be possessed if the demon would give her son his soul back. The demon did as she asked but it did left him a werewolf. Niklas is a werewolf with a soul. He has vowed to hunt and kill the wolf that turned him. He has chased the pack from town to town. Only able to take out a few pack members at a time but never the alpha that turned him. When Niklas arrives in town, he sees Darby walking down the street he feels that there is something about her but he doesn't know what. When Darby tries to rescue a mother and her small child from the werewolfs they are captured instead. Darby and the little girl escape but the werewolfs soon catch up to them but Niklas saves them. Niklas and Darby will have to team up to find and kill the last werewolf, the alpha. That is the only thing that will save Niklas and the little girl. When the attraction between Niklas and Darby becomes to much to ingore things heat up between them. Darby will do anything to save Niklas and the child. Just how far will she go? Will Niklas be able to save her or will he be too late?

This is the fifth installment in Ms Kohler's Moon Chasers series. This series is wonderful. The action and the romance is just in the right amounts. Ms Kohler brings her characters to life. You will not be disappointed in this book or the entire series. This book is one for the keeper shelf. (less)

Причината затова е личното ми отношение към някои от сцените в книгата, а не заради липсата на качества, които да заслужат висока оценка. Въпреки това и с оглед, че всички книги от тази поредица, разказват различни истории и всяка спокойно може да се разглежда сама по себе си, може би ще прочета и останалите, особено ако всички са толкова бързо смилаеми.

This fifth book in Kohler's Moon Chasers series is filled with lycans (aka werewolves), white witches, demon witches and demons along with a very reluctant romance.

Much like in Lori Handeland's NightCreatures series, these werewolves aren't hot and sexy alpha males who just happen to turn furry a couple nights each month. They are nasty killing machines who can't help changing during the nights around and including the full moon and eating people ... and not in a good way.

Coming into the series with the 5th book made me a little weary and I will admit, in the first few chapters I had no clue about the different creatures Sharie Kohler has created in this magnificent world, but towards the middle I was getting the hang of it all.

I instantly sympathized with Darby is who a witch on the run from demons, she endeared herself to me on the first page. She has isolated herself in a small town in Alaska, never allowing anyone to get too close to her because if they do they could be in danger. One of Darby’s powers is premonitions, or visions of the future. She can’t control when they come but they often happen when she touches another person so she tries to limit her contact to as little as possible; because when she has these the demons feel her magic at work and seek her out, trying to steal her soul. Living in Alaska helps keep the demon contact down because all but the strongest demons can’t handle the cold. Darby was a refreshing heroine to read about, she had a good heart and was not the aggressive, snarky heroine that you find in most PNR/UF nowadays.

The mysterious stranger Niklas arrives in town and there is an instant animal magnetism between him and Darby. They both know that the other is not quite human but they have more in common than they could ever imagine.
Niklas has been hunting a lycan (werewolf) pack for the last decade, every since the alpha destroyed his mother and infected him. Sharie Kohler puts a little seen twist on her werewolves though, they aren’t the sexy alpha’s with a good heart under all that fur; these lycans are evil soulless killing machines with no control over their shift. Tracking the pack to this small town Niklas is determined to end it here. What he doesn’t count on though is the attraction he feels towards Darby and the feelings she brings out in him and his beast.

When a little girl’s life is put on the line though, both Darby and Niklas must put aside their loner ways and work together to save her. Their chemistry sizzles in such close quarters and they are unable to deny it for long, and when these two finally get together it gets hot hot hot!

This was not an easy, gentle romance at all and was fought tooth and nail by both H/H but that just added to the already abundant suspense of the story. I found Night Falls on the Wicked to be well written, fluid, intense and action packed with some nice little twists towards the end. The world Sharie Kohler has created is complex and well detailed, and with her vivid story telling it was easy for me to imagine the characters surroundings. You didn’t really get to delve too deep into Niklas’ emotions until the end; he kept them locked up tight throughout most of the story in effort to keep focused on his goal of revenge but that just built up his character’s intrigue.

Night Falls on the Wicked was set up to be a great stand alone. There was only one character that I assume was from the series arc and a mention of two characters from a previous book (bk #4 I believe) but these did not distract from the story to the series. It just made me curious to read the other novels in the series, which I will be doing! I recommend this novel to all paranormal romance and urban fantasy fans.

This is the first book I have read of this series and it can be considered a stand alone, but I am sure the past books would fill in some holes. I absolutely could not put this book down. I started it early in the morning, read every chance I got-even if it was a paragraph at a time, then I was up really late so I could finish it. Having demons be unable to manifest very long in the cold was a unique twist I hadn’t read before. Part of me thought that it was kind of silly they couldn’t..but it made the story different so I can see why others wouldn’t think twice about it. I just couldn’t see Satan, the head honcho, their maker, whoever, making his minions have such a weakness. I thought her voice was a bit weak for my tastes. She only showed her assertiveness a few times and then went off half cocked towards the end. I didn’t completely understand why someone who had lived with the pain of a decision her mother made would make a similar one herself. Also knowing what pain a decision Niklas’s mother had made did to him.

Niklas made me want to scream. He was so in control of his emotions that life was passing him by. Bent of the destruction of a single lycan that had plagued him for 10 years. He fought any feelings that might stray him from his path. Seeing Darby seemed to shatter his control and he couldn’t help but to follow her…make sure she was safe.I understood his thought process but at the same time thought that someone so consumed with revenge would want to embrace whatever they could to get the deed done. He was strong and hard headed, just the way I like them. :)

I wasn’t crazy about them as a couple. There didn’t seem to be a lot of heat there. I mean sure they each THOUGHT about things, but short of a few heated kisses, nothing seemed to be happening for the longest time. There wasn’t a lot of communication between them. When they did talk they were mostly at odds on how to handle certain situations.

The ending of the lycan Niklas was after was skated over and I was disappointed the readers didn’t get to experience his demise. As Niklas’ sole purpose for years I think more closure was needed on that end. It was stated it was over, and that’s about all we got. It just seemed weird to skip it. The rise of a new villain at the end was unexpected (well sort of anyway) and it did breathe new life in the last few chapters. I loved Niklas being able to overcome his lycan stigma and do what was necessary when the time came to embrace that side of his nature.

Sharie does do an excellent job of describing the layouts and surroundings very well. I loved her imagery of the landscape and it made me want to visit and I hate cold weather. Ok, I hate hot weather as well. No lie.

While I had some issues with this one, I did still like it on a “fluffy” level. It kept me reading and in all honestly that’s what it’s meant to do right? I enjoyed the concept, some of the unique aspects and as individuals, the characters.(less)

This book begins with Darby working at Sam's Diner as a waitress. Then changes to Niklas as he's entering her frozen town, signing into a hotel. I’ve been jumping around on this series, not reading in order, and I have found it does hurt my understanding of the overall story arc a little bit so I would recommend starting from the beginning with this one. I did enjoy this more than the last I had picked up in the series. I really liked the conflict that Darby and Niklas are going through. At times I felt like I was reading something from silhouette instead of a paranormal. It wasn't even that it was bad. It was an easy read that I finished in a day. I just wasn't prepared for the heavy Harlequin influence.

I felt like this one was missing something, just not sure what. I liked Darby and Niklas and like the world that this series is set in. The story was a little boring too, the best thing about it was seeing Darby try to blend in the small town. I wish there was more interaction with Darius. He showed up, but for I am not sure why as the story wouldn't have missed anything without it.
