A quick beach read, or maybe a better book to read when delirious with fever and plot points aren't a friend. There was a sign in Garrison Keillor's book store labeled "Quality Trash" and perhaps that's the best way to label this.

While the play with history is fun, the action sequences, and the way Cussler resolves mysteries for the lead protagonist are vexing. Too much of the book relies on random luck, convenient technology and chance encounters that the story doesn't reach any points of satis...more

Good historical start as always with the Russian Royal family fleeing the Communists but then lost its way somewhat. I still reckon that co-authors dont do the plot justice. The fire-fight in Boston harbour, for example, went completely unnoticed by the US police and armed forces. Again the final scenes were just too easy for the heroes - at no time did I fear they would actually lose! The really interesting aspect of the plot was the possibility that the US Continental shelf could simply slip o...more

I like the NUMA series, as well as its cousin, the Dirk Pitt series. Both of them, however, are more Bro-mance than real mystery. And, they certainly have an environmentalist agenda. Each novel speaks to a specific environmental issue. But, they are fun reading, and the characters are well-written.

I enjoyed this book about the most of all the Clive Cussler books that I have read. The main character, Kurt Austin, was more likeable than Dirk Putt, still confident, but not quite as cocky. In this adventure, Austin has to stop some evil Russians from creating tsunamis that would wipe out major cities in the U.S. and create more global warming that would help Russia and make the U.S. like a dust bowl. Of course plenty of action and fighting ensued, but Austin managed to kill the bad guys, save...more

Clive Cussler is one of the best modern writers, in my opinion. I am reading all the Dirk Pitt and Kurt Austen books before I start on the Oregon Files. I just hope the Oregon File books are as well researched as his early books. Pat

I liked the concept of the Czar tie in with this book as I have always been interested in that part of Russian history. The killing of the villians in this book were really lame so I only gave it two stars. This book also had some mild sexual content that I really could have done without.

I love Clive Cussler. This is my first NUMA files book - I enjoyed the characters very much. I also liked the story. This writing/story is very similar to the Ghost War type of work.

A little creepy reading this book at this time being as the bad guy has figured out how create tsunamis to wipe out the east coast. Enjoyed it as much as the other books in the series.

My siblings and I have been listening to it in the car for a long period of time . It was fun to just sit down and listing to it instead if reading that huge book!

Clive Cussler does it again with action and intrigue. I would not want to meet Kurt Austin in a dark alley...if I was one of the bad guys. The history in the story was great. And of course it has a happy ending with Kurt getting the girl!

Another adventurous read from Clive Cussler! I love the way he ties history with current political and environmental issues into his books!

Another Cussler clone, which doesn't mean the book is bad, simply that it doesn't present anything new or original. Still, entertaining

Always learn something new with Cussler's books. Lots of intrigue & plot turns. I love these books & look forward to reading more of them!

As with all of Cussler's adventure stories, this is a fast-paced rompin' good time read. Love Dirk Pitt and clan.

I like the way Clive Cussler weaves a historical event in with present-day fiction.

I liked this because it taught me a little science about a possible future fuel source.

I have tried to listen to this a couple of times and admit defeat. I just couldn't get into it.

The NUMA Files wasn't too bad. I loved that we got to see Sandecker and Gunn again. I enjoy the crew of NUMA and its operatives. Kurt is not Dirk Pitt so far. Great humor and all but I didn't get that Dirk sense except for the romance. I enjoyed his character but didn't see too much when it came to how they said he's great in certain situations. Maybe in coming books because I do want to continue on.

Fire Ice was my first Cussler read. I went into it nothing nothing about the author and I was very young when I read it so that might be why it did not make an impression on me at all. It was exciting in parts and it was nice to read a thriller that takes place outside of courtrooms and interrogation rooms but the adventure didn’t fascinate me beyond a three star mark. It seemed a little bloated with plots for overthrowing other countries and so on. Again, maybe I have the wrong impression, but...more

NUMA agents Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala mix it up in Russia this time. They are on a rescue mission to retrieve the NR-1 submarine and its crew which have been hijacked by unknown persons. Russian insurgents are threatening to overthrow the Russian government and destroy the US economy with manufactured tsunamis.

This is a country-hopping tale encompassing Russia, England and the US. The story pops back and forth between the Russian cossacks and what Kurt's crew is doing to defeat them. Very inte...more

Another one that fits right into the formula for the Cussler stable. I still like Paul K as one of the best writers in the stable - good job.

Cussler began writing novels in 1965 and published his first work featuring his continuous series hero, Dirk Pitt, in 1973. His first non-fiction, The Sea Hunters, was released in 1996. The Board of Governors of the Maritime College, State University of New York, considered The Sea Hunters in lieu of a Ph.D. thesis and awarded Cussler a Doctor of Letters degree in May, 1997. It was the first time...more
