We all come into this world with "Sacred Contracts," according to bestselling author Caroline Myss. Some know it as a calling. Some see it as a life mission. "In short, a Sacred Contract is an agreement your soul makes before you are born," Myss explains. "You promise to do certain things for yourself, for others, and for divine purposes. Part of the Contract requires that ...more

If you want to make your life more meaningful and more fulfilled, this book gives you a powerful and specific means to do it.

I was introduced to the concept of archetypes by reading Jung back in the late 1970s and early 80s. I found the idea powerful and provocative, like all of Jung's ideas, and much more attractive than what I could understand of other psychological theories, which all seemed depressingly reductionistic. (One of the reasons I avoided studying psychology at the University of B.

Sacred Contracts – Awakening Your Divine Potential
Author: Caroline Myss
Cosmic Thoughts from Phyllis:
Caroline Myss, a renowned Medical Intuitive, has provided an excellent tool for those who have been asking these questions about themselves: Who am I? Why am I here? What should I be doing with my life? Some timeless questions, and this book is a tool that can help you find the answers yourself. It is a fascinating read – but not altogether easy to create your ‘chart’ – you have to be determine
Who comes up with this crap? Carolyn Myss does! That's who! Let's come up with the most obtuse, off-the-wall method of determining your destiny in life, which includes, oh, I don't know, chakras and the tarot and the zodiac! Yeah! That's it! And let's weave them all together and come up with a way to figure out who you are so we can make Carolyn Myss more money! Sort of a slumber party "who are you going to marry" game for gullible grownups. Myss does not, by the way, have a real PhD, but has on ...more

Sacred Contracts - Caroline Myss
Random House

What an interesting read, but more, what an opportunity, guided by a skilful and compassionate practitioner, to get underneath and have a look at what we're really made of - from a psychological/emotional point of view.

Essentially, in Sacred Contracts Caroline Myss works from the understanding that we made contracts prior to birth with each person with whom we will interact over our lives. These contracts form the basis for the type of interaction that
This book has way to much information built on one persons personal experiences. If the book was written in a different "spirit" , then maybe could get something out of it, but I just could not listen to the tone of voice. She seems to be attempting building monument of made up of her own "sensing" experiences, more like an elaborate sand castle.
An interesting take on archetypes and how they influence us in different dimensions of life. Goes into chakras and astrology a bit.

Way meater then Anatomy of Spirit this book delves into the nature of relationships in respect to our spiritual journeys. Carolyn has a very no nonsense approach to living a spiritual life and I appreciate her verbal delivery. It is very new age which could be a turn off for some but there is some really awesome practical approaches as well. Both her audiobooks are shortened versions of her actual books minus the exercises. I liked the audiobooks so much so that I have bought the paper versions ...more

This was my second Caroline Myss read and while I enjoyed it, I’m also a bit ambivalent about certain aspects of it. That’s neither good nor bad per se; but gets me exploring the different notions regardless (which I like to think reading should do!). It’s also not to cast doubt on her work but perhaps my own reaction to the archetypes. I find them a very interesting way of analyzing ourselves and helpful in contemplating our supposed ‘sacred contracts’ with other people in our lives. Myss posit ...more
I saw this book on the shelf and knew we were soulmates. Chronicling Caroline Myss’ evolution as a medical intuitive, SACRED CONTRACTS proves that there is still more energy work to be done than just the chakra work that her other books discuss. In fact, there’s a whole new “science” we have to come to understand. It’s called archetypes. Myss claims that she started realizing after her book WHY PEOPLE DON’T HEAL that there had to be something else causing illness (surely not because no one was h ...more

The problem with most self-help/spiritual books is that they often use up the length of an entire book to say what would have easily fitted into a small pamphlet. The authors, who obviously would not make any money from selling a single chapter, seem to pad out the material with endless repetition and anecdotes and inevitably, as a reader, I find myself wishing the torture would end. “Sacred Contracts” is no exception.

It all starts well enough - the first f

Recommends it for: anyone who intersted in discovring one's personal growth

This is only the begging of a new journey of finding oneself ( I'm talking a class with other people- I get the insights from other classmates which is intersting)-- doing the Archtype work is baffling at first - thinking what influnces throughtout ones life and type of personality is hard to retrace one life but worth it! )
I only read the first 4 chacters know there's more later when author mentions some examples of her clients and herself how these " sacred contracts " influence the choices
To be perfectly honest, I had a really hard time finishing this book. I think the concept of "contracts" with people in your life is interesting and has some validity to it (I do believe people are in your life for a reason); but having to understand these contracts through archetypes was a bit of a stretch for me.

I will say the appendix explaining archetypes was helpful and the examples of good versus shadow versions of each archetype were useful in driving home the definition of the archetype.

You can read my review of this book here:

Sacred Contracts: Awakening Your Divine Potential by Caroline Myss is a text that shows us how our twelve archetypes influence our sacred contracts. We are shown how to put our personal archetypes into an archetypal wheel using out intuition. We are also shown the different aspects of the wheel, much like the different aspects of our natal charts, influence areas of our life from the unconscious to our relationship
I liked the concept of having contracts with people to a point. It made sense: this person is a douche, but he's teaching you about how to stand up for yourself and it was contracted to happen. Boom. Got it.

But then it gets dicey. Myss glosses over the occurrences of child abuse, murder, etc. and whether or not those are contracts. I got the sense she didn't want to belittle anyone's horrific experiences by saying "Yep, those are contracts, too." BUT, it didn't feel genuine to me. If you're goi

This book is a companion to what I believe & teach. It is helpful for me to connect to others walking the same path of creative inspiration. I'll qualify this, however! Myss is pretty hard core in her approach. Though I don't subscribe to her philosophy 100%, she covers a lot of ground & has done an incredible amount of research & observation on the human condition. Her insights are worth exploring.

If you are wondering about your life purpose, this is a great book with exercises to h

I have a mixed feelings about Carolyn Myss.

THIS book (for me) was about 3 (pretty good)

Her BEST book (IMO) ---was "Anotomy of the Spirit"

The book which she wrote which was a mess (IMO)--for way too many reasons I don't even have the time to go into ---was: "Entering the Castle" (and I read every word of that book ---taking notes --underlined things she said).

If people were to read her book the way she wrote it ---(they would need a least a 'year' to devote to it). Our Center For Spiritua

Caroline Myss is the Queen of Archetypes. Her work is revolutionary and inspiring. Sacred Contracts speaks directly to your soul and reveals the power of your archetypes. Some you will recognize easily, and others love to hide until you search long and deep. Archetypes are always whispering their wisdom to us. In stories. At work. In every engagement in your life. Aren’t you curious what yours might be?

I read this book while taking a class from Caroline Myss on Sacred Contracts. What a fun way to look at your psychology and how you show up in the world! Understanding your specific archetypes can be healing and enlightening. Since the workshop I have written about and used Archetypes in my work as a therapist and as a Psychic Medium Healer. I love all of Caroline Myss' work and highly suggest reading this book in a book group!

This book was a powerful journey for me through the many appointments, destinations, and crucial meetings of my life that have carried me to where I am today. I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. But I will warn you, this is not a sit back and read and feel enlightened kind of book. You have to work your way through this one, there are assignments and homework, and as the book builds on the activities of the chapter before, you will literally come to a stand still if you don't participa ...more
I "discovered" Caroline Myss last year via a metaphysics class, and she writes great books on how to understand yourself and motivations for doing things. It's deep, and not easy, as she gives you exercises to do. In Sacred Contracts, you are trying to figure out what your purpose is in this incarnation on Earth thru a series of 12 archetypes, 4 of which the author feels everyone has. It takes time to make up your "wheel" and understand it. So I'm about three quarters through, but have work to d ...more
Offers another perspective on archetypes and how they provide potential shape for our lives. What I liked about it was that it gave me the idea to start playing with different templates to shape the way I wanted my life to be shaped.

Have you ever wondered what your life purpose was? Caroline Myss's books "Sacred Contracts" is a powerful book for rediscovering your own unique talents and gifts. One of the first steps towards wisdom is self-knowledge. You can begin to understand more by reawakening to your own dreams and passions and then redirecting your valuable time and energy towards your highest potential. I highly recommend this book and the exercises. Completing a sacred contract 12 house wheel is tremendously helpful ...more

A great tool for deeper self knowledge. Aside from many step by step exercises aimed at identifying and working with your archetypes, this book has a general effect of forcing one to see all of their life events and relationships as part of a complex whole and seek deeper meaning and patterns. Once identified, archetypes can help on asses any given life challenge or situation so the book does not "end" once read but can be used over and over again as a tool for waking intuition and deeper sense ...more

I was emailing my mother the other day and telling her that i had run out of books to read in the New Age genre. After I did that, i looked at my other emails in my inbox. I saw one from my friend on goodreads, it was a list of books that she had just put on her 'to read' shelf. At the top of this list was this book, Sacred Contracts. I clicked on it and was totally amazed because it was the exact right book, with the exact right material to follow up on the last book i had read. Synchronicity, ...more
So now that I'm retired from teaching I thought I should look for my purpose in life. I saw the author, Caroline Myss, on a Sunday morning spiritually program on OWN. She sounded interesting and I thought I'd look into what my spiritual contract should be. I learned about archetypes and chakras and I guess my innter child shadow will not let me go any further in the book. I've renewed it and promised I would not read anything else until I finished, but then I was reading and I was resenting the ...more

Seems particularly geared to mid-life so timing is good for me. Might not be so relevant for a 20-year old. I listened to audio version. Love all-inclusiveness of spiritual views with lots of Christian references (as well as others), but not necessarily aligned with any one view. I'm glad they addressed The Secret (and why I can't stand it!) because if it had gotten too groovy woo-woo, new agey, supermarket preachy, I'd have not listened all the way through. That's my problem with a lot of this ...more
I have this on CD too. I would suggest you get both the book and CD. I enjoy the CD because it adds more than what the book has in it, but the CD allows you to cross-reference. VERY enlightening and awakening spiritually, no matter what your background. It makes you think. It makes you wonder. It sheds light onto your variable personal attributes that makes you "YOU", and gives you pause to wonder why you have those attributes. Even your so-called weaknesses are no mistake. She takes pespectives ...more
This is a book that can't and shouldn't be read in one fell swoop. It is better to read it in smaller chunks and process it. It took me forever to get through.

It has been awhile since I read this but I distinctly remember the book being developed in three parts. The first was beautiful and profound. I enthusiastically recommend this aspect of the book to anyone. The second part was a bit more esoteric, asking the reader to examine "archetypes" or symbols in our lives. The third part was about c
