I've never come across a book that was more in need of an editor. Repetitive, unclear, wordy, and atrociously organized, this tome is a blight for theological writing.
I really enjoyed this book. Although written from an academic and theological point of view, it still provides a rich and expansive insight into the unique philosophy of Thomas Merton. It provides a context and background that highlights the poetry of this mystic and monk. Only after reading this book did I truly grasp the catholic (as in universal) meaning of Merton's Sophian writings and did I understand to what an extent he tasted the nectar of the soul whilst remaining steadfast to his faith ...more
It was one of the richest and most thoughtfully presented discussion of the feminine principle in theology and it is an outstanding book that I will return to repeatedly.
