Richard Templa in The Rules Of Management sets out to write the “unwritten” rules of management – the things they don’t teach in training courses and management textbooks. He suggests that readers will know all or most of the content already “Yes, it is all really bleeding obvious”, but many will not be applying the rules on a regular basis. Templa’s aim is to have the reader think a little more about each rule and ask “whether or not you do it”. The book is split into two parts; managing your t ...more
Nicholas Whyte[return][return]I like to buy the occasional personal development book, and this was a) cheap and b) the best-selling such at Heathrow Airport so I bought and read it pretty quickly. It's simply 100 top tips for managers, each explained in one or two pages, not in fact very well structured except that the first third are things to do with your team and the rest are things to do with your own work habits. A couple of ideas that gave me pause for thought, but ...more
The Rules of Management is a simple set of rules for managers to follow, both with themselves and their teams. These 100 rules are simple rules you probably know already, but the book puts them in an interesting way, reminding you of them, and giving you some beautiful advice about management.

I would recommend that anyone who is interested in the communication between a manager and an employee (that includes both, the manager AND the employee), to look at this book.

Of course knowing these rules

Your sequel to "The Rules of Work" for those who have manage to grasp the earlier book.

I still prefer "The Rules of Work" than this. Hopefully, I will be able to appreciate it as I read along.

One of the best professional books I have every read in my life. I advise all managers (Middle and Top) to read this book, it won't take much time and it is very concise and to the point.

As a sr.manager I used to review one rule in each weekly progress meeting with 6 managers under me. I found it useful to start weekly progress meeting that add knowledge and sort of fun sometimes.

As a mentor to a smart engineer, I used to give him some advice from this book where i hope it will be a habit for him.

I believe for what mr.covey S "idea>>action>>habit>>character." so opt your idea as a manager from this book to end up as with manager character .

Sincerely ,

Common-sensical advice and a pleasant read.

The Rules of Management by Richard Templar is a must read for anyone responsible for a team of employees, no matter what level ofhe company hierarchy you find yourself. the Rules are present in manageble (see what I did there) bitesize chapters that get immediately to the heart of the discusson of the rule. I expect to refer to this book throughout my career, whether as an office manager or franchise owner or beyond.

Nothing new in the set of 'rules' identified. Some of the explanations were okay; many less informally discussed than plain informal. Some descriptions bordered on what in my opinion would be unethical. The topic would be good; in fact, there are many other better quality books.

In a word - -avoid.

This is a very resources book for any soon to be of current manager. Richard Templar has a very light and fun writing style that made reading the 107 rules fast and easy! I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to increase their management expertise!

I didn't agreed with everything in the book. It contains a lot of slang. An average book with good tips on management. I find it helpful somehow. I don't recommend it to beginner readers.

Don't really agree with every each of these rules. But most of them are good. Short, quick, and good read.
Jeff Schmitt
Another book that I will definitely refer back to in my leadership travels.
