Ever since Soren was kidnapped and taken to the St. Aegolius School for Orphaned Owls, he has longed to see his sister, Eglantine, again. Now Eglantine is back in Soren's life, but she's been through an ordeal too terrible for words. And Ezylryb, Soren's mentor, has disappeared. Deep within Soren's gizzard, something more powerful than knowledge tells him there's a connect...moreEver since Soren was kidnapped and taken to the St. Aegolius School for Orphaned Owls, he has longed to see his sister

The Guardians of Ga'Hoole series really takes off with book 3. There's action, adventure and character development all rolled into one. And can I just say, it's got Snowy Owls! I heart snowy owls.
Now onto my major problem and why this warrents a three star rating and not a four or five. Repetition. Lasky tends to over describe things to the point that I thought I was going crazy because I swear I just read a description that was worded exactly the same way four pages ago.

This series presents an interesting conundrum for me. The main plot of the books is very Watership Down-like, anthropomorphizing animals to comment on human society and all of it's flaws and virtues. There are always dynamic quests, rich with good reveals, well-described battles, and good sense of world-building when it comes to the history of owls and their daily life.
But, my goodness, if I have to read one more time a description that I have read at least a hundred times before, some More...

The Rescue
The rescue is one of the most interesting books I have ever read. It was very well organized and thought out. I could picture almost every single part of the book, but the one that popped out the most was the battle the owls had towards the end of the book.
This book in the series of The Guardians of Ga’Hoole is the best one yet. It is about how Ezylryb gets lost during a search and rescue and nobody knows what has happened to him. It is Soren and his chaw of chaws that dec More...

I liked the first two books in the series better, this one didn't have a very entertaining story and began to get repetative like some children's series do.
Soren and his friends are missing their leader Ezlyryb and set out to try to find him without the leaders of the Great Ga'Hoole tree knowing. They find a rouge metal smith and learn a lot from her, and then Eglantine begains to remember some her time in captivity. Soren makes a connection between these things to an owl they call M More...

This is the third book in the series and the series is really growing on me. It is exciting and I'm learning a lot about owls as well. They kind of creep me out, but they certainly are interesting birds. I'm glad my friend recommended this series. I can read it in between more difficult books like those by Michio Kaku and still be entertained.
I liked this one too. The plot thickens and even though it is a juvenile book, it really keeps my interest. I get engrossed in the personalitie More...

THE RESCUE
Book Review
By Kelly Peterson
I don’t know much about owls, but I can tell that Kathryn Lasky does. In The Rescue, she tells all of the main habits of owls, but she turns them into fantasy in her own fun way.
In this book a Barn Owl named Soren finds that his most beloved ryb, or teacher, has disappeared. No one seemed to know where he went or why. He also finds out that a terrible force is lurking just beyond the great tree. They are owls, but they do horr More...

Soren’s beloved teacher, Ezylryb, has gone missing and Soren and his band, who have now received significant training from the Guardians of Ga’Hoole, go out to find him. When they do they discover a secret strength used by a new group of owls, The Pure Ones, who are intent on also taking over owl society. They also learn more of Ezylryb’s history and find themselves in a fight both with the group at St. Aggy’s and the Pure Ones who are lead by the malevolent owl, Metal Beak. Whereas this is t

I've been reading this series with my youngest daughter for several months now. She is 9 and really likes these books. I like that there is a continuing story line that follows the lives of several owls and how they progress from babies to young adults. It discusses the difficulties they've faced and I think it's a good starting point for 7-11 year olds to discuss issues they face in life. It's also kind of funny how they "humanize" the owls so kids can relate to them. I would rec

The Rescue is the thired of the Guardians of Ga'hoole series and the last of the three books made into 'the leagrnds of the guardians' movie. The book takes place several weeks after Ezylryb went missing and Soren is getting more and more anchis every passing day. But even more menising is a new thret even whers than St.Aegolius. The Pure Ones have arived. My resonce fore reading this book are the same with the other ones I want to know what happens next and like the rest I think there a bit too

The owl books are wonderful, and this one has the young owl friends banding together to attempt a bold rescue of their beloved teacher - plus there's a crazy reveal at the end. However, the further into the series I go, the more annoyed I am at all of the repetitive reminders of what key plot points are. I'm sure Lasky's editors insisted on it so that young readers can be able to keep track of everything, but these are not complex books, and I think the kids deserve a little more credit.

Oooh yeah. After the more expository second volume, we're back into action. Soren and his band really coalesce, as they embark on two exciting missions. We find out what 'You only wish' was all about (hint: something to do with Metal Beak). This is a fun series that touches on deep and dark themes, and the kids I know who have read these books love them. One caveat: they're only for series freaks. Despite some cursory stabs at backstory, Lasky mostly charges into each episode and I don't t

Sorens Ryb (teacher) is missing. But is he really who he says he is? Or is there more?
I personally love the group "the chaw of chaws" and love that even though
Sorren and "the band" (Gyfie, Twilight and Digger) has come to the land of Ga'Hoole, they still do many things together.
And this is a major part in the series, when Metal beak's mask get's taken off. Such a shock to Sorren, who I am glad to say is being more grown up by the second. He has More...

‘Six strong, quick witted owls about to fulfill a destiny, they had indeed become a band of owls who would rise into the blackness …’ (page 168)
Dreaming of the past, ‘Once upon a very long time ago, in the time of Glaux there was an order of knightly owls, from a kingdom called Ga'Hoole, who would rise each night into the blackness and perform noble deeds.’ (page 18)
Today, Eglantine, Soren’s sister, is back, but at the same time Ezylryb has disappeared.

I had no idea until adding this book that there are SO MANY in this series!!!!! WOAH 15!!!!!! I thought we were wrapping up with "The Rescue" and I'm wondering how they were going to wrap things up at this pace. I really don't care about hurricane flight difficulties. Bummer. If you've read all 37 Ga'hoole books, please give me the abridged summary. I have too many other books I want to get to to be 2 books without another mention of the original plot. Sigh....

I have read up to book nine and have seen the movie, and i have to say i do enjoy them. I, guiltily for i am a HUGE animal fan, haven't ever really thought about owls until the 'Guardians of Ga'hool' movie came out and i realized their mysterious beauty, after seeing the movie i decided to read the books which of course do not regret, i am though taking a small, very small break and reading just couple YA books ;), but of course ill be back to these books before you can say "Guardians of Ga

This third book in the series really hooked me. The first book was great, the second slowed down a bit and I became skeptical, but the action really picks up again with this one. A lot of questions are answered, but now there are even more variables for the owls to deal with...more tension and more situations. The book moves at a steady pace and it was hard to put down. The end leaves an opening to move fluidly to the next book in the series, which I just picked up and started reading yesterday!

Wow! This one had a surprise waiting for us there at the end. Totally different than the movie version, which was a fun and unexpected treat. I was afraid that after seeing the movie the book would be boring. Not so! My 10 year old son and I are both still loving this series. There's a lot of heart in these books...That along with the wonderfully positive messages throughout the story make them extra enjoyable. We always have something to discuss after we set the book down and I love that.

I jsut struggle to even give these 3 stars. It often gets muddled down with the made up names, words, sayings, terms ECT... It seems like it wasnt so be for the young readers but I think my kids would struggle with all the made up terms. BUt I can't say I would gush reccomendations for my adult YA fans, not enough there. I found confusing explanations or deductions And ws predictable.
I still like the characters and can see this being a great movie.

In The Rescue we follow the four friends as they try to become the best of the best; true Guardian’s of Ga’Hoole. It's a great adventure, and ties up the plot introduced in the 2nd book nicely, while still leaving it open for the rest of the series.
If you would like to see the rest of my review on the first 3 books in this series, check out my blog here: http://readingisdreamy.blogspot.com/2010...

A little slow going in the beginning, thankfully this installment really picks things up in the end. After first having seen the movie that was adapted from these three books, I certainly appreciate the detail and depth obtained from reading them. And, oh, the differences! Both versions are good in their own right, but all-in-all I look forward to reading the rest of this series. It's a beautiful world that I have become caught up in now that I've started. I also love Soren enough to want to kno

In this book, I believe that the plot has been thickened when Soren's elder brother comes back into the picture. When I first read it, it was a major shock. But now that I have reread it seemed like a normal plot twist that had happened. This entire series hasn't been the best books I have ever read, but a few years ago I would have said something differently. I think it really has to do with what age you read it at.

My son loves this series, and we listened to it together in the car. I haven't read the first two in the series, but saw snatches of the movie. Between that and my son filling me in, I got caught up easily. I didn't enjoy the reader- I have to say that. She made all the owls sound like sissies. The story was a little simple and melodramatic, but again, that may be my problem, coming into a series late in the game.

This is the exciting third installment of Guardians of Ga'hoole. It was a great and gripping read that I thoroughly enjoyed. I devoured every word on the page, learned more about owls in the mean time, and fell into the thrilling world of Guardians of Ga'hoole. I loved this book and enjoyed every page of it; it was great to see Soren maturing and to see more of the Great Tree.

Buku ketiga petualangan Soren, si burung hantu Barn.
Nice, sayang kok terasa singkat. Kurang tebal? Duh nda sabar menunggu kelanjutannya.
