'Kruistocht in spijkerbroek' is een van mijn favoriete boeken uit mijn jeugd. Nu ik het opnieuw gelezen heb, is het precies zoals ik me kon herinneren en ik ben er nog steeds van overtuigd dat ik meer van Thea Beckman geleerd heb dan van mijn geschiedenislessen. Wat een interessante boeken, over zulke interessante tijden en wat prettig dat het gewoon over het normale volk gaat! Tenía que haber más libros como éste, con protagonistas fuertes y vulnerables a la vez, porque si son protagonistas fuertes, más bien parecen robots sin sentimientos y si no son de los que se ponen en plan de no lo voy a conseguir jamás en mi vida, mejor lo dejo y blablabla.
Por lo menos durante la trama no paran de sucederse problemas que van a ser solucionados mejor o peor con la ayuda de Dolf, Leonardo, Carolus o el resto de los niños.

Time travel has always fascinated me ever since I saw Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reed. If I were to have the choice to go back in time I'd like the fashion of the 20's-30's because my beads always hang straight, classy hair of the 40's and the world of the mid-nineties when my house was worth something. Geweldig boek, één van de eerste boeken van Thea Beckman die ik heb gelezen. De eerste keer dat ik dit boek las was op de basisschool, vervolgens dit boek bijna elk jaar wel een keer opnieuw gelezen.
Kruistocht in spijkerbroek is een boek dat ik maar moeilijk weg kan leggen, nu nog steeds zo'n 13 jaar later, en waar ik helemaal in op kan gaan. Het is een uitgebreid verhaal waarin veel gebeurd met de personen om Dolf heen en natuurlijk Dolf zelf.

De zestienjarige Dolf uit Amstelveen geeft zich op als proefkonijn: hij zal door een materie-transmitter teruggeflitst worden naar de Middeleeuwen om daar één middag een kijkje te nemen. Op school kregen we een lijst van boeken om te lezen. Met dat lijstje ging ik naar de bibliotheek en zag dit boek staan. Ofschoon het volgens mij de dikste van de lijst was besloot ik dit toch te behandelen. Zo'n 25 jaar later heb ik daar geen moment spijt van gehad, en heb ik de avonturen van Dolf al 3x herlezen. This is a wonderful book. I have read it in Dutch some 30 odd years ago and loved it!! It really did do a lot for my love of history. Ms Beckman did a lot of research for this book. It is fascinating to compare the thinking and understanding of the world of a 20th century person and a child living in 1212.
Unfortunately, I lost my copy of the book when moving to New Zealand. But, I am glad to see it is still in print and will buy a copy. The Dutch version is the best I believe, but don't let that...more

Eindelijk deze jeugd favoriet weer gelezen. Heerlijk boek.
Dolf wordt per ongeluk teruggeflitst naar de middeleeuwen, dat deel is natuurlijk wat vergezocht. Ook heeft hij wel heel veel zelfvertrouwen als hij net in de verkeerde eeuw is beland, en daar meteen een leidersrol op zich neemt.
Maar het verhaal is goed meeslepend. Stiekem ook educatief, een mooi verpakte geschiedenisles. De denkwijze van middeleeuwers wordt helder, vooral gezien vanuit onze 20e-eeuwer Dolf.

This ended up being a very satisfying read. I’m sure if I’d read this at age 10, it would have been a 5 star book for me. I would have particularly enjoyed the episodic adventures of Dolf and the children when I was that age.

I am not sure I have the words to adequately describe how much I've loved this book and still love this book. My 4th grade teacher started reading this to our class back in '78 or so. As of right now, this is just an attempt to start filling out my virtual library here. I read this a very long time (between 15 and 20 years, probably) ago, so I can barely recall it, much less evaluate it. It is, however, safe to assume that it was entertaining and worth the read to a young teenager.
As an aside, this is the 14th Edition rather than the 12th illustrated in the screenshot.

This is the book that introduced me to Thea Beckman, I have read almost all her books and enjoyed pretty much all of them.
I love the way she made history so much more interesting when I was a young girl, this book has lots of fascinating historical events and she describes the travel beautifully. I have only read it in the original language and it is well written, a must read.

My Dutch friends were displeased I didn't enjoy this more. Part of it may be due to the fact that this is a translation. I also tried to take into consideration that this is a children's book published in the 1970s. But honestly I felt like I had to push myself to finish this book. I was not very engaged by the writing style, and while the overall concept is very cool, I was never impressed by any of the characters. Glad I read it all the same, but I just overall did not care too much for it.
Very real and horrifying portrait of the children's crusades of yore. This one will stay with you for a LONG time. However, only four stars because it lost me a couple times with the prose being overly lengthy. I would recommend this to anyone that likes time-travel and historical fiction. Wonderful book and a fairly quick read.
All time favorite, even though it is a 'childrens' book. Always a good read on holidays. In those times and when it would have been published in Engelish it would have been a number one best seller. But it's from the seventies when you just read books instead of turn them into a film directly.

VERSCHILLEND;je ziet duidelijk het verschil tussen de twee,meestal is het ook zo dat het boek beter is dan de film.
Ik heb het boek met plezier gelezen(zoals altijd).

Rudolph has an extraordinary thing happen on an ordinary day. He goes to the lab, and joins in an experiment. He volunteers to be the first time traveler, because he wants to see a knights' tournament. Instead, he is put dead center into the children's crusade. While he is traveling with them, he learns about the minds and feelings of the people who lived during those times. He really comes to love many of them. The big question is, will he be able to return?
Altijd weer een feestje, dit boek. De personages zijn zo leuk, vooral Dolf. Stoer maar toch emotioneel, daadkrachtig maar niet oppermachtig en altijd gelijk. Heerlijk.
Het einde vind ik nu een beetje rommelig, dat ze nog verder trekken als het wonder uitblijft, wat bijna een samenvatting lijkt, afgezien van die ene spannende gebeurtenis waar ze als buffer worden gebruikt. Another great kid's book! Written originally in Dutch in 1973, it's about a modern boy going back in time to 1212 and participating in the Children's Crusade. Also made a great movie in 2008 "Crusader in Blue Jeans."
The frame was a little awkward, but that's a minor complaint. The main story was exciting and thoughtful. I couldn't believe it's Dutch (?) or almost 40 years old - it seems very contemporary to me.

I never read this book as a child, and I don't like historical books that much. But I really liked this book. I thought the author brought the historical part in a really interesting way.
Beste Nederlandstalige jeugdboek, naar mijn mening. Het is prachtig en tegelijkertijd een vreselijk verhaal. Altijd spannend, soms ontroerend, soms grappig, vaak gruwelijk... fantastisch boek dat ik met grote regelmaat, ook als volwassene, herlees.
