Are you seeing a pattern in my book reviews? I was indeed a very focused child when it came to reading Halloween-themed stories. Go me.

This book is again a strong one for introducing young readers to reading by themselves. Little Witch has a hard time being a witch because she tends to do good things, like cleaning her room and being nice to people. As punishment, her mother forces her to stay home one Halloween night instead of joining in with the group of witches. Both Little Witch and her mot...more

This Step-into-Reading book from the early 1980s is a fine choice for beginning readers looking for something Halloween-y to read. The little witch is punished for being "too good" and has to stay home while the other (wicked) witches go out--but she ends up giving an unforgettable Halloween experience to some trick-or-treating kids when she takes them for magical rides on her broomstick. I like the concept and the illustrations are cute, but overall I wasn't really captivated by the story and i...more

I love this book. It was my daughter's favorite for a while when she was 4, so I've read it many times. I never (thankfully) got tired of this fanciful little tale of a young witch's first Halloween. Little Witch's Big Night has lovely pictures & is a good bridge from being read to into reading independently.

Even though it deals with Halloween and you might not be able to read it to a class, it still had some really cute values. Little was being too good, so her punishment was to stay home on halloween. However, 3 trick or treaters came to the door and she decided to give them all a broomstick ride. During these rides, she made a few friends as well.

Because she's been good again, Little Witch's punishment is to stay home. But along come some trick-or-treaters whom she befriends and gives ride on her broomstick.

Cora loves the Little Witch series (there are about 4 books), they are a step into chapter books level. The other kids and I like them too! Pretty cute.
Jen
Great book for early readers. It introduced a lot of new vocabulary to my son but the time motivator (before Halloween!) helped him to push on and finish.

I love this book. I read it with my class. They liked how she was a good witch and she was a good role model as well.

Read when I was very young.

A great book for beginning readers. The illustrations are by charming and the story is as well. It should definitely capture their imagination. Besides what child doesn't want to read book where the mother encourages the child to be naughty and messy.

Little Witch can't go out with her family on Halloween night because she is being punished for being too good. While her family is gone, she gives some trick-or-treaters rides on her broom.
