SPOILER ALERT
I found this book OK at first but then I got bored by listening to Wasdin's hypocrisy. "I hate the damn liberal media", oh unless I am trying to make a buck selling my book, then they are OK. He talks about how he respects all the other soldiers and then goes on to say how much better his SEALs and Delta are. He talks about how in Somalia they did not hang out with the Rangers because they were above them. Then, later goes on, many times, saying how they fought brave More...

This is NOT NOT NOT a novel. It is the real-life memoirs of a real-life member of Seal Team Six. For those of you who, like me, are not familiar with the various Seal teams, SEAL Team Six is as elite among the SEALs as the SEALs are elite among sailors. These are the guys who do the hardest jobs assigned to the SEALs. For decades, they seemed to only exist as rumors and sightings, sort of a cross between James Bond, Bigfoot and G.I. Joe.

Wasdin succeeds at painting himself as a d-bag using his difficult childhood to win weapons and training to become a d-bag with a license to kill. In between numerous accounts of how various groups of human beings would cower in shock and awe, and the superficial philosophical awakenings, there is enough operational insight into the SEALs to leave you just feeling contempt for the author rather than having wasted your time entirely for not giving up at the first mention of Coors Light.

Seal Team Six Memories of an Elite Navy Seal Sniper, by Howard E. Watson and Stephen Templin. The story of a mans struggles through life to become part of the most Elite team on the plant. This story takes you through his troubled childhood with an abusive step father and having to work every day in his life out in the field. He shares his struggles throughout navy seal school and in real combat. It is never easy for any one to deal with fighting in a real war. Seals are almost always out number

I can't say I LIKED the book, as I have serious moral reservations about the military in general, and snipers in particular. That said, I do think it's important to listen to different points of view and experiences. I respect the sacrifices Wasdin made, and his bad-ass hard work. And I appreciate that the book felt like a fairly honest accounting of his career.

I got about halfway through this book, and I suppose I was spoiled by the action adventure that was Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10. Like that book, this is a book about an elite Navy SEAL, from his training to his missions, though Wasdin, as a member of Team Six, is even more elite. I have the greatest respect for his training, and for his courage, and I am really really really glad that I will never have to endure anything like

The more you sweat in peace time, the less you bleed in war. That’s the motto of our military and it’s what being an elite sniper, making all the way to the most elite of all sections of SEAL units, the Team Six. That’s really what the Autobiography is about and it was one of the better ones out there, and certainly better one I’ve read in year.

If you've read a lot of books on SEALs, you'll start to connect various operators and missions that crop up again and again, which is interesting to note. The books aren't incredibly indepth because they can't be. And because SEALs (probably by training) aren't the most introspective types, you don't hear a lot of internal analysis about their lives, feelings, or families. That kind of thought process would paralyze men used to life-in-the-moment action. If you've read lots of SEALs books, the l

With the recent popularity of SEAL Team Six, I was a bit concerned that Howard Wasdin and Stephen Templin's SEAL Team Six: Memoirs of an Elite Navy SEAL Sniper (St. Martin's Press 2011) would be a hastily constructed manuscript to play off the public's current appetite for this Special Forces Group. I am pleased to say this book is nothing like that. It is the autobiography of a boy who grew up dirt poor, worked so hard during his childhood that BUD/S seemed no more mentally-challenging than wha

SEAL Team Six made headlines recently when they killed the world's most wanted man, Osama bin Laden, in Pakistan. Everyone wanted to know more about this elite team of the miltary's best men, and luckily former team member Howard E. Wasdin, along with Stephen Templin, had written SEAL Team Six: Memoirs of an Elite Navy SEAL Sniper.
The book succeeds because it shares Wasdin's personal story, from his difficult childhood with a stepfather who beat him frequently to his success as a snipe More...

SEAL Team Six: Memoirs of an Elite Navy Seal Sniper by Howard E. Wasdin & Stephen Templin
"SEAL Team Six" is the fascinating memoir of American hero and elite SEALTeam Six member Howard Wasdin. It's an inside look at the journey of becoming a Navy SEAL and the dangerous missions he was involved in. This absorbing 352-page book is composed of the following seventeen chapters: 1. Reach Out and Touch Someone, 2. One Shot, One Sill?, 3. Hell is for Children, 4. Russian Sub and More...

Told in straightforward unadorned prose, this is one man's search for himself that takes him from an abusive childhood into war and home again. Through Wasdin's experience we travel with him from a rural upbringing and into the U.S. Navy, where Wasdin's experience as a battered child gives him something of an edge — an advantage that becomes clear when he decides to enter the SEALs. Eventually a sniper in the elite SEAL Team Six unit, Wasdin served in Mogadishu during the battle made famous in t

Was only sort of up for reading this book. A Special Forces buddy gave me Dalton Fury's "Kill Bin Laden" which I had just completed when my wife--of all people--purchased "Seal Team Six". I think she is still trying to figure me out and doesn't understand why there are some things I won't talk about. I am glad I read the book, not because it dovetails with taking out Bin Laden, but because I appreciate the training and dedication of the elite among us. The book is as many

This book was about an elite navy seal sniper and about his experiences in war and the techniques he uses to succeed in his missions. This book was also about how in war navy seals always have to be careful and diligent and not to mention they have to be able to know how to do every thing. Another thing this book was about was this technique called the double tap that navy seals use to improve accuracy in the shot by shooting one bullet right after the other. Also in war navy seals are a special

I read the book "Seal Team Six: Memoirs of an Elite Navy Seal Sniper," by Howard Wasdin. "Seal Team Six" is about Howard, his his experiences as a elite navy seal. The book starts off during Howard's childhood, and how it helped form him into the hard nosed navy seal. "I couldn't comprehend why people were quitting already. Of course, my tough childhood had prepared me for this moment. More than physically, I knew that mentally I had mastered pain and hard work, and

I had high hopes for Seal Team Six as I really wanted to learn more about the Unit that went in and capped Osama Bin Laden once and for all. But as much as I wanted to like the book, Howard Wasdin, the author, came off very full of himself. At times, I really thought that I was reading another book by Jose Canseco. I get that Navy SEALs have to have a certain mind set in order to do the things they do, and I commend and respect the things he did to protect America and the less fortunate in other

"Seal Team Six" is the memoir of Howard E. Wasdin. Seal Team Six has come been in the news lately because this is the team that went in and killed Osama bin-Laden.
The Navy Seals may well be the best fighting force in the world, and Seal Team Six is the elite of the elite.

Several books about the elite Navy SEALs have been released since the killing of Bin Laden, but this book wasn't one of those rushed to print to capitalize on those headlines. This book tells the personal story of one of the SEAL Team Six members, Howard Wasdin. Some readers may not like everything about Wasdin, but that doesn't seem to be the purpose of the book. He's not running for office. This book is his story, and provides insights into what it's like to become and serve as a member of

“SEAL Team Six: Memoirs of an Elite Navy Sniper” by Howard E. Wasdin and Stephen Templin is a memoir of Mr. Wasdin time as a Navy SEAL. This book just happens to come out after SEAL Team Six took out Bin-Laden. The book was not rushed to print because of the operation. I thought this was an important point to make.

Howard E. Wasdin tells his story as if you were sitting beside him, talking face to face.
He gives us a glimpse into his hard childhood living with an abusive stepfather. He leaves home to get married to a girl his parents didn't approve of. While working at SAR(Search and Rescue) he meets several SEALS, he decides he wants to be one of these guys. He enlists to BUD/S, he brings us through some of his rigorous training, also hell week. Seal Team Six is a look inside the super secret organization that is the very elite of the elite American special forces. The author, Howard Wasdin recounts his experiences as a Seal Team Six sniper. He gives us an insight into the history of the American Special Forces and how they evolved into the elite units they are now. In addition to providing that history, Wasdin also recounts the training and conditioning that he had to experience to make the cut, as well as operations that he was active

This a pretty interesting look at the SEALs elite team that took out Osama written well before that event of course but I would assume even as interesting and detailed as it seems there is still a fair amount redacted.
However just to give a taste of the book without writing a spoiler I'd summarize one of the stories Wasdin writes about. A fair portion of the book is actually more a personal memoir of sorts starting with his upbringing but the story about the three rednecks in the tr More...

Some have panned this autobiographical account as being self-centered or self-serving. I disagree. It would be difficult to begin to understand Wasdin’s motivation and drive without knowing about his background and critical moments in his life. It explains both his faults and his successes. About his faults and mistakes he seems to be generally open and sincere in his regrets.
Nonetheless, this isn't intended to be an self-examination or navel-gazing exploration. Rather, it is a glim More...

Anyone who joins the U.S. military is a badass. Anyone who survives Hell Week and the other requirements of becoming a Navy Seal is a badass on steroids. The biggest badasses on steroids join Seal Team Six.
Howard Wasdin joined Seal Team Six as a sniper. And he is better than you.
Wasdin's biography reads like a Tom Clancy novel. Though not as well written, the truth of the stories make them more gripping. We follow Wasdin from his physically abusive childhood (which he cl More...

I am appreciative of every soldier defending the United States of America. Bless all of you for the sacrifices you make, the battles you fight, and the professionalism you demonstrate to provide freedom for my family.
Having said that, I did not like this book. It related more to the author's arrogant attitude, and demeaning attitude toward others, that left me less interested in the book's contents. I understand that confidence and extraordinary skill is required to qualify as a N More...

This book shot up the best-seller list on the heels of Osama Bin Laden's execution. This book had nothing to do with that, or pretty much anything of the current US conflict landscape (Iraq/Afghanistan).
The heart of this book was the "Black Hawk Down" mission in Somalia - which, chapter was absolutely riveting. It kept me up for hours after reading it.
The training chapters leading up his assignment to Seal Team Six, was also quite compelling. However, the rest of More...

OK, so he's not a strong writer, and has a rather shallow worldview. He was a Navy SEAL sniper, for goodness sake, not an academic. His strong suit was putting a bullet where it needed to be put, under adverse conditions, anytime, anywhere. Wasdin and his co-author did a good job portraying his training and combat experiences. He also communicated the arrogant attitude elite warriors have. Which is fine by me - they earned it. No two ways about it, he was Billy Badass, a real kill-like-you-

This book is Howard Wasdin's autobiography...his life before, during and after serving in the Elite group of Navy SEAL Team Six. This is a true story of today's proud warriors attempting to protect the safety and security that most Americans take for granted. Their dedication, discipline and perseverance will amaze you.
