Devoted (Elixir #2)
Since Sage was kidnapped, Clea has no way of knowing if he is alive or dead. And even though she has only just discovered they were soulmates, she feels like a part of her is lost forever. What’s worse, she can’t even turn to her best friend Ben—because every time she looks at him, all she sees is his betrayal.

I'm not sure I can find adequate words to describe how awful this book was, but I'm certainly going to try.
I truly enjoy escapist entertainment. Like watching an episode of a Real Housewives show or listening to a Katy Perry album. I don't expect a work of genius, just a little dollop of sugary stupidity to relax my brain after a busy day. You know, the fun kind of stupid. Devoted is the insulting kind of stupid. The sort that makes your mouth gape open in disbelief or your eyes roll in disgust...more

I’m a little overwhelmed with Devoted. It was a good and all, definitely a step up from Elixir, the first book. But I guess the vastness on how this series has progressed into was not something I was prepared for. What started out as a simple love story morphed into a world where the story of the Elixir of Life has more to it than it seems and the tragic love story between Clea and Sage is just one of the few misgivings when the Elixir is involved.

Devoted takes place basically after the events of Elixir, and we are met by a distressed Clea, who is reeling over Sage’s kidnapping, and also quite literally cut Ben out of her life. Within the first chapter, we learn of some events that happened in between the books before Clea is suddenly snapped back to reality, coming face to face with a mysterious family, who are later to be named as Amelia, Petra, Grandpa and Dad. Like Sage they drank the elixir, though many many centuries earlier, and ar...more
Well, I didn't actually like this one as much as the first. The first one was SO interesting and felt like an adventure at every turn. It was so full of little details I almost didn't remember some of them, ha. But this one? Well, this one felt a little slower and I even thought it dragged a bit. I think I was about 200 pages in or so and it honestly felt like nothing important happened. But, then again, that tends to happen with middle books (assuming this is a three part series). It's not the...more
This one is a little hard for me to rate, I did enjoy Elixir, and definitely enjoyed Devoted, however I was disappointed with the turn the story took. While Hilary Duff’s writing and creativity definitely shines in this book and has greatly improved, I was completely disappointed that her search for her father which was the main focus of Elixir, completely took the back burner in this novel, as she is utterly devoted to finding Sage. As much as I understand the need for romance and wanting her s...more
Alrighty, first off: WHAT A MEAN WAY TO END THIS BOOK!!
Now that I've gotten that out of my system, I officially love this series. I love the way it works, I love the science behind it, I love the conflict.
Ohhhh myyyy goooosh it's good. And I wasn't even expecting this book until next week! DONE.
I feel like the story is quick and engaging. I kept telling myself that I needed sleep, but the story wouldn't let me. There are plenty of flaws within this story. Plenty of plot holes. But honestly, isn...more

Elixir left us with an frustrating Clea Raymond. I knew it would happen, it's not exactly rational to expect Clea to be "normal" again after having her soulmate, Sage, kidnapped by a group of shady men.
Duff, in an interview with MTV, that Devoted is as exciting as Elixir. But I think Devoted shines more than Elixir in many ways. I wince every time I have to read through Clea declaring her undying, destined love to Sage, but the plot takes a huge twist with the introduction of new characters.

The follow up to Elixir, Devoted packs plenty of flash and action, but none of the heart. And that's great if romance bugs the crap out of you. In Devoted we have lots of action, new mysteries, and angst (yay, my favorite). And that's where the good ends.
Problems? When I said no heart, I also meant no charm. The wonderful characters from the previous are missing and completely hollowed out versions of their original selves. The crux of the story revolves around something so stupid and easily pr...more

I finished book one pleasantly surprised and eager to know more, I had to wait until I could get back to the library to get this one and I couldn't wait. Thinking of book 1 and looking at this one I thought I would be finished by the next night, could easily read it in a day, but for some reason it's taken me 5 days. I just wasn't that interested, I wouldn't be desperate to grab it. Something about it just didn't feel right.

Clea is back and is still searching for the answers about her missing father and her connection with the elusive and dangerous Sage. But will her discoveries put her in even greater danger?

i think hillary duff did a great job on this one ! it is amazing!
even though there are parts that i hated, this book got me HOOKED. i could not put it down. the things that bothered me the most were;
-the sage falling in love with lila. i thought they were soulmates? i thought he was supposed to love only clea. the first time i read this, i thought it was petra showing a fake scene, ugh.
-then, clea decides to get revenge. poor ben trying to move on but then now believes that clea was for real.

Most of my updates pretty much summarizes the book but I will give a breif summarization. In the book Devoted by Hilary Duff, Clea Raymond is on the search for her soulmate Sage. Sage was taken by the Saviors of Eternal Life. The saviors and the Cursed Vengenace are two groups that are after the Elixr of life. The Elixr of Life is what runs through Sage's body. Sage's body is the only source of the elixr that is left because it was used all up a very long time ago by other travelers. Cursed Ven...more
Chaos.
Chaos, chaos, chaos.
I'll begin by saying I loved Elixir--give or take a little love. It was good. It had mystery. It had suspense. (Though the car scene pretty much made me disgusted with Sage.)
So, Sage is gone. End of Elixir. When I opened this book, I expected so much more. Instead, this jumbled, horrible, shredded thing-of-a-story ensued. Pure disappointment.
First thing first. This story...it had zero depth. None. Nada. Zilch. Whatever you want to call it. Unlike Elixir (and you'll...more

I had loved Elixir and couldn't wait for this to some out. I can't say it was as great as the first one, but I still enjoyed it a lot.
The story picks up with Sage missing and Clea having no clue how to find them. I'm not sure what it is about these characters or their relationship that I love so much, but I just get so much more involved in their lives than I do with many characters. So I just love them together and their being torn apart just ripped my heart out and I really felt for them. I a...more

"Soulmate" is an overused term, but a true soul connection is very rare, and very real. Two people who meet and share such a connection do more than fall in love; they change each other both deeply and irreversibly. real soulmates will always weather diffuclt times; they have to. They're eternally bound together, drawn back to each other no matter what.

NO. NONONONONONONONONO!
Okay I could have given this book 1 star but I couldn't dismiss the fact I was COMPLETELY hooked and totally on the edge of my seat throughout the whole it (especially the last 100 pages). But I HATED the ending! (With spoiler) I hated that Clea couldn't see through what happened and did what she did just to spite Sage, I HATE that Sage gave up so quickly, and I HATE that they lost their soul connection. - I was devastated! And what make it even worse was the ending! Okay...more

Omg. Loved. This. Book. The story picked up right where Elixir left off, and I was NOT dissappointed. Hilary Duff added in a few more people and ideas into the story line, which I loved! I really like how she added so much more to the plot in this one as well.
Storyline/Plot: 4.5/5

soooooo I have NO idea why, but I remember Hilary Duff's first book, Elixir, to be pretty okay. At least I think I remember. OMG, what is wrong with me? Did I black out a year ago when reading her book? Did she change editors? It reads like something I could have thrown together when I was fifteen. I guess it's aimed at that age group. Wait, it's kind of like Twilight. Damn, sucked in again! No pun intended.

Devoted is a wonderful continuation of Duff's first novel, Elixir. You can definitely tell that she grew as a writer, because not only is the plot line much more captivating and complicated, the story is also better written than her first book. It leaves you hanging by a thread throughout the whole book just enough that you want to find out what's going to happen next. The first chapter is a bit slow, but like most authors do, Duff (kind of) gives you some insight into what happened in the previ...more
I read the first book of this series and thought it was alright. The story line kept me intrigued, so I decided to give this one a go. Especially since the first one left you hanging. While reading this second book, it really hit me just how much I didn't care about the characters at all. I tried to feel bad for Clea as she tried to find Sage, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Absolutely nothing within the book convinced me that these two loved one another other than the constant talk a...more
My view on this is a bit blurred because I'm a huge fan of the author as a singer and actress. So yes, I had a hard time to judge on her book objectively.
To compare it to Elixir, the first book, I must say that I love Elixir better. Partly because the flow of the story seems to run better, and Clea was not like a confused teenager there. In Devoted, she got easily confused when dealing with Sage and, for God's sake, she just randomly went to Ben in the middle of the night and dragged him to the...more

The reason why I decided to give this book 4 stars instead of 5 is because of some of the details. Take for instance, in the beginning when Clea sees that family and she doesn't freak out. She doesn't demands or asks who they are; she seems like she's striking a conversation with complete strangers. Also, Sage wouldn't have "fallen in love" with someone else if Clea was really her soul mate. Because of this, Clea kinda of betrays her love for Sage in a way. Grr...more

I really hate reading out of chronological order, but I read this before reading the first book Elixir because my library didn't have it >< I actually really enjoyed this book. The characters were enjoyable to follow and I thought the plot was good, though some of the explanations through Amelia were complex to follow. I kind of felt... unsatisfied with the ending :/ I don't know exactly why I don't particularly like it, but I thought it ended in a weird spot. It kind of confused me.

I definitely have to say that this series makes it on to my top five list of all-time favorite love stories! Although this book wasn't QUITE as charming as the first [Elixir] it still kept me on edge, clinging to all hope and desire that the characters would finally be reunited. Hilary Duff really took the realm of supernatural romance in a direction that I can't honestly say I've ever had the pleasure of encountering until now, and I am so glad that I didn't simply look away when I first found...more
