Andrew MacAdam was raised by uncles as a result of the fate that created a situation that had taken his father’s life. Instead of going to war and raging against his enemies this Englishman lived in Scotland battling another type of competition – the game of golf. Josselin Ancrum was also raised by others who were not her parents but she was lived for the fight each and every scrape she got into was an opportunity to seize the day with both hands. When these two forces collide nothing but the earth stopping its rotation is going to keep them apart.

Drew and Jossy both their loved respective countries and Queens and while Jossy did not have to pretend to be something she was not. But after she is offered the opportunity to be a spy for her Queen she understood the concept of living a lie. Jossy had agreed through her devotion to the Queen of Scotland to be a dedicated spy, just not a very good one not for a lack of trying. Drew on the other hand took nothing but golf seriously until Jossy was in his line of sight and the fates be damned that woman was going to be his.

But spies lead dangerous lives and walk under the cover of darkness, or in Jossy’s case you serve beer and yell at the locals to behave themselves. Their paths cross on the golf course during the day and torturing each other every night in the inn where they did not do much sleeping.

Yet the past always comes back to haunt you and lying to each other was the least of the stupid decisions they made. You might consider kidnapping bad, or getting into a sword fight with one another pretty awful, yet you would be wrong because these two decide to wager everything on each other forgetting the past or at least trying to.

This book brings up the history of the game of golf into an historical romance which I can’t recall having been done before. Ms. Morgan loves the original story and interesting concept while having her characters produce strength and sustainability. She has scored in this book for more than 18 holes of golf that is for sure.

Josselin herself grew up to be a beautiful fighter, just like her mother. She is also impetuous, strong-willed and eager to exact vengeance against the English for her mother’s death.

The Englishman who ended the life of Josselin’s mother is plagued by the guilt of having murdered a woman. He wrote a final letter and gave it to his young son, Andrew who delivered it to his uncles. By the time the boy returned, his father was already hanging from the rafters; and so it was on that day that two young children were left without parents.

Andrew, later known as Drew, was raised by his three uncles. He was taught how to fight and wield a sword with incredible dexterity. Like his father though, Andrew never acquired a taste for blood or violence. He preferred to fight his battles on the golf course. As a grown man, Andrew leads his uncles to believe that he is earning his living fighting in the English tournament circuit. Meanwhile, he is really disguised as a Highlander playing golf alongside the Scots.

It was during the procession honoring the new Queen Mary of Scots that Drew met a spirited young lad that is moments away from going toe-to-toe with some rather large and drunken Scotsmen. Drew intervenes to assist the young man only to learn that he is really a she. Josselin is none-too-pleased about being accosted by a too handsome, too charming and too nosy Highlander. All that bickering actually caught the new queen’s attention and leads to a series of events that changes Josselin and Drew’s lives forever.

Once again, Kira Morgan gives us colorful characters that you hope will find happiness against the odds stacked against them. Jossy and Drew are so very different yet so compatible. This story didn’t offer the same level of mystery as its predecessor but it isn't without some suspense. Drew spends most of his time hiding under the pretense of being a Highlander. As a reader, you’ll spend much of your time wondering what will happen to them once the truth is revealed.

I didn’t find this novel quite as gripping as Morgan’s first, Captured by Desire because of the simpler plot. However, the fiery personalities and passionate relationship between Jossy and Drew made the story very enjoyable. (less)

The way Ms. Morgan presents this novel, starting with the prologue, set it up as an enticing romance that is full of danger, intrigue, secrecy, and love. I love how Jossy and Drew have an instant chemistry that fairly sparks from the get-go and had me checking for scorch marks on my fingertips. Drew abhors fighting, and prefers to beat the Scots at their own game - golf. He is in Edinburgh at this time, disguised as a highlander to avoid the troubles of being English. Josselin is upset by some of the catcalls at the new Queen and jumps to her defense - calling attention to herself and potentially getting herself killed. Drew jumps in to assist and outs her as a woman. The Queen is impressed and sends her servant with a message for Josselin. Of course Drew is intrigued, and fears Josselin is too naive to handle her change in circumstance. He feels duty-bound to keep an eye on her. Josselin is suspicious of Drew and wants to keep an eye on him. Add a bit of attraction, three uncles and three fathers, and a bit of political intrigue and bam! nothing goes the way it was planned...

My thoughts: This was a really cute read. I felt very lighthearted as I read Seduced by Destiny. I liked "Jossy" and Drew, even though they were both a bit irritating in their surety that they were smarter/better at swords than the other. Their passion, once ignited, was certainly hot, and I rooted for these two to have an HEA, despite their differences. The descriptions of their surroundings, the flirting back and forth between the h/h, and the stubborn uncles/fathers made for entertaining reading. The political intrigue portion of the story fell a bit weak in parts, but overall I read Seduced by Destiny with a smile.(less)

I thought this was a fun book to read. On one hand, it was a typical Highlander romance with "star-crossed lovers", enemies and duels - but it also had a champion -- golfer. I know, golf is said to have originated in Scotland, but I never thought I would run into it in a historical romance! To me, this gave the book a sense of humor as well.

Well, it wasn't bad. I mean, I like romances. I even like these (pseudo-)historical romances -- this one is set in 1561, when Mary Queen of Scots returned to Scotland from France. It's more of a farce, and kind of silly. The heroine in this story is pretty awesome, I felt that she and her leading man (who is not a duke, earl, etc.) were both evenly involved when it came to saving the day & creating their happily ever after, which isn't something I can say about most of the historical romances I've read in the past. First book by this author and i really enjoyed it! Thought it was funny and cute and fast paced.The attraction between Drew and Jossy is pretty apparent from the beginning but Jossy is destined to deny it.Her protestations are pretty funny with her quick wit comments.Drew pretending to be a Highlander and is not. He makes his living at golfing which was pretty funny to see as it was no a common way to make a living back than. Jossy a beer serving wench and warrior save the Queen of Scotland and she rewarded by enlisted by spy for her. Drew and her lives become some what rocky when she suspect him of being a spy but not as always as it seems. These two learn that the past are connected and that they are sworn enemies but its to late Jossy heart is already given. They need to overcome this work together to solve the mystery as to who is trying to hurt both of them and live happily ever after. But, there are surprises constantly popping up and it was fun to see how they were coping . These two were a pleasure to read about you could not help but love there character. Will definitely be picking up another of her novels that is for sure.(less)

This was a Goodreads giveaway win. Unusual - a romance involving golf, in 16th c. Scotland no less, a first for me. Parts made me laugh, although I'm not sure that was the author's intent. Much of the book was pretty far-fetched, but not to the point that it was bothersome - heroine, seemingly low-born or middle class at best, could read and fight with a sword, her uncles let her go to Edinburgh on her own (really? in the 16th c.?), she runs all over Edinburgh by herself, is randomly picked by Q...more

This book was ok, I wouldn't say I disliked it nor would I say I enjoyed it immensely. There were certain areas in the book - mainly when the main characters Josselin and Drew match wits that extremely well written but all other parts of the book seem to drag and wasn't all that interesting. I wouldn't highly recommend it but if you've got nothing else to read, you might want to take it up.

Taking place in Scotland with the tensions of English vs. Scottish, but more so on the golf course. Josey to avenge the death of her mother, and Drew that of his father, of course meet and love blossoms. The star crossed lovers are doomed...or are they?

4.5 Major kudos for Kira Morgan's inventive plot- one that had me checking out the history of golf in Scotland online. Great characters bringing out the best in each other wrapped the romance up with a smile.
