Again characters mentioned for a moment in a previous book end up as the main characters in this book.

This book is about witches instead of vampires, which threw me off for a little bit, but I found that I liked it very much as more lore was added to the Night World series with this installation and more characters for future books were introduced as well.
The female protagonist, Thea, is a witch who has been orphaned and kicked out of a few schools due to the trouble caused by her cousin, also a witch and also an orphan. The story begins with them going to a new school. On the first day of school Thea saves a guy from a snake bite by using her cousin's bloodstone. During the exchange she feels a strange 'connection' with him. She starts to fall in love with him, which naturally is forbiddon, and things are only made worse when Thea's cousin decid ...more
Whoosh! I flew through this book. In my review for Daughters of Darkness (Night World #2), I mentioned how much I liked Mary-Lynnette because she wasn't willing to give up everything for a guy. This book's main character, Thea, is willing to give up everything for her soulmate. It's pretty convenient that you meet your soulmate at 17 and you know you're going to be together forever. You don't even need to take a risk. But she was willing to forget her witchiness, her family, everything. While I ...more
This one was harder to get through than the previous books. In Secret Vampire, for example, I could overlook the fact that the 2 teenagers were soulmates- and in love or whatever- because it was stated many times that they had known each other since the age of 5. They had known each other for a little over a decade, before realizing they were "meant for each other" (even though I'm fairly certain James may have mentioned he had always loved her or some bullshit like that) My point being, they ha ...more

Smith utan vamyrer!
It's still as romantic as the first (and second) time I read it, but the book reeks of witchcraft and such that it gets annoying.
A good book, not as spellbilding as the two before, but still a must read!
Night World #3: Spellbinder, by L. J. Smith

"She knew the drill. Another year of living with them, of walking quietly through the halls knowing that she was different from everybody around her, even while she was carefully, expertly pretending to be the same (p. 4)."

Thea and Blaise are cousins, raised as closely as if they were sisters. They're also both witches, members of the secret Night World. And they are high school students, starting at their fifth high school, having been expelled from f
I am revisiting my love of teen-horror romances circa the 90's -- long before "Twilight" was a blip on anyone's radar.

Back in the day, when all I read were haunts by Christopher Pike and R.L. Stine (which were able to come out almost monthly), I stumbled upon an author named L.J. Smith. She was a master of the Trilogy. What pulled me in, and what I would love to read again someday, was "Dark Visions." A book about kids with psychic abilities and their war against some man who wanted to use thei

We all know how ugly it can get when two girls fight over one guy. But when it's witches fighting over the same guy it can get pretty bad. Casting spells on the guy, etc. But which one will win? The strong one who has no qualms against casting spells or the good one who tries not to do that to humans? It shows that no matter what kind of spells are cast if you're meant to be with someone no spell will affect them. Not to mention the spells the girls are doing are forbidden by the council of witc ...more
2.75-3 stars.

This is one of my least favorite of the series. I read it once as a young teen but this is the first time I've read it in almost fifteen years, in contrast to the others of the series that I've raed multiple times, and I was surprised that I liked it a little more than my first reading.

Now the first half I was still unimpressed with. I, for some reason, tend to not be as interested in the witch stories as I am with vampires and werewolves and almost any other type of supernatural b
Thea užívá magii k dobru, Blaise pomocí ní svede kluky, kteří by pro ní udělali cokoliv, například podpálili školu, zabili své soky...

I just finished this book which is 3rd in a series of 8 I think. So far, each book has been relatively similar in terms of where it went: some Night World member (be it witch, vampire etc.) falls in love with a human and that's forbidden but what makes it relatively ok is that they are "soul mates" which in this book means it is super super special, not just a term thrown around. At the end of this book I gather that this whole "soul mates" term is about to make a significant contribution to the ...more
Thea and Blaise were raised together, they are like sisters. They could easily be day and night, light and darkness, Circle Twilight and circle Midnight. They could easily be Hellewise and Maya, the daughters of Goddess Hecate.

After being moved to Las Vegas to live with their grandmother the Crone of all witches. On their first day at school Thea meets Eric a boy who shares her love for animals. Eric is sweet, smart, shy and handsome, but he is also a Human which puts him in danger because Thea

Už mi to lezie krkom. Naozaj by som privítala, keby autorka konečne uplatnila svoje vlastné zákon ...more
Was good story, ending was good too, nice to see her sister come through for her in the end, but like the other 2 everything is left hanging though I do see how all 3 books are being tied together really well, I just want to know when they are gunna get on with the story or if they are just gunna continue to tie everything together into 1 big picture, but never actually solve anything?
Not my favorite. The ending was too in depth of witch craft for me to really be interested in. I skimmed through it. Two witch cousins, Thea the good one and Blaise the dark one, have been expelled from yet another school. Moving to live with their grandmother is their last chance and Thea is determined not to get sucked into Blaise's mess. But when she has an encounter with Eric Ross then overhears Blaise saying he was going to be her next challenge, Thea just couldn't stand there and do nothin ...more

This is another installment of the Night World series by L J Smith, the same creator of the Vampire Diaries. First, I love the TV show TVD, but I really grew to hate the book version, even before L J stopped writing them (and a ghost writer took over). But, I do really like her Night World series. Some of it’s hit and miss, as I don’t love them all, but none of them are bad.
In Spellbinder, Thea and Blaise are witches, who use light and dark magic, respectively. Thea meets Eric for the first tim
Blaze and Thea are witches that are as close as sisters. They attend a regular high-school, where Blaze can’t resist messing with the mortals. Thea gets hooked on a mortal boy (Eric), so of course Blaze has to do whatever it takes to steal him away. In the ensuing battle, a force of evil is unleashed and must be reigned in - or else!

This book switches from vampires to witches. Even so, the same theme is present - what to do when a mortal learns that you are a supernatural being. I thought this

First published between 1996-1998, Lisa Jane Smith's NIGHT WORLD series was released as a ten-book series...only the final book never arrived. Smith took a ten-year hiatus from writing, leaving the final book unwritten and the steadily-building story incomplete. But now, finally, the end is in sight. Simon and Schuster are republishing the series in three-book omnibuses in anticipation for Strange Fate the last in the series that has left us hanging for over ten years.

Like so many, I was a teena
