In this second installment of the Trylle trilogy, we reunite with Wendy inside this strange new world she's still digesting. It's an honorable sequel with a lot of world building, plenty of characterization, and enough twists to keep you enchanted until the end.

Let's start with the world building. In Switched, we're introduced to this new race of Trylle. We meet the queen, we visit the kingdom and we learn where Wendy fits in all of this. Now, in Torn, we go deeper. We learn a lot more about the...more

Rating: 4.5 beautiful stars!

You know you have an amazing sequel when you love it more than the first book — and that's exactly the case with Torn! I wasn't expecting to be as blown away as I was but I ended up loving it from the beautiful cover to the heartbreaking end.

From the very first page, I already knew I was going to lose sleep reading this book! It still gives enough information to remind you of what happened in Switched, but the recap isn't boring or overwhelming. We also get to learn...more

It has recently come to my attention that, without meaning to, I managed to snag the “original” copy of Switched, which makes me a bit more understanding toward Amanda Hocking and the Trylle Trilogy as a whole. It’s not exactly fair to complain about a book when I read the “bad” version when the “good” one was readily available. Whoops!

Therefore, I was willing to try out Torn in a much more timely manner than I’d originally planned. And, to my surprise, traditional publishing seems to have done...more

My Rating: 3.0

After reading Switched, I was so looking forward into reading Torn, but to my dismay, Torn was a disappointment compared to Switched. Torn simply didn't have the same feeling that Switched has. However, Torn does have a breathtaking cover like how Switched does.

One thing that angers me in Torn is the way Finn describes his feelings for Wendy. "He couldn't even understand his attraction to her. She was incorrigible and defied him every chance she got. Sometimes, Finn was positive...more

Plot wise? A pretty good sequel.
Character wise? No. Especially how Wendy acted.

The Good
- There was a lot more plot development than the last book. The first book, Switched, consisted mainly of Wendy just learning to be a Princess, and it got a little boring. However, this wasn't entirely like that.

- I enjoyed learning more about the history between the Trylle and the Vittra. I now understand why they're enemies and how serious the situation is. I also see the Vittra in a new light now. They're s...more

‘Torn’ starts from exactly where Switched is left off. Wendy after getting fed up with the life she has at the palace persuades Rys into taking her back to Matt, her host brother’s house.

‘Torn’ is more exciting as it introduces many more characters some more surprising than others but I would’nt want to give it away! More dangers are to come as the Vittra are aware where Wendy is and that she has reached the age and is capable of becoming queen. After complications, which consequence in Finn to...more

I read the blurb for this and I was like,

A love triangle. A fucking love triangle.

I'll read this when I'm feeling masochistic.

Torn is just as addicting as Amanda Hocking's first book in the Trylle Trilogy, Switched! From the intriguing history of the tension between the Trylle and Vitrra to the charming characters surrounding Wendy, readers will be captivated.

The most favorable aspect of Torn is that the story picks up right when Switched ended. There's enough background information to remind readers of events in the last novel, but it's not overbearing or wasted space. The story's pace...more

My main issue with Amanda Hocking is that she has no sense of rise and fall. She doesn't know how to bring the story to a high point and then leave you heaving with suspense in the conclusion. She made an improvement from the first book by giving you reason to believe that the series will continue. She left Wendy's relationship with her father, the Vittra King, open for us to find out later. We still don't have much of a handle on who Wendy is and what she wants. We know she thinks that she's pr...more

Unfortunately, Torn is even worse than the first, lacking in many of the things Switched had to offer.

It's really hard to get into a book when the main character insists and refuses to do anything in any way but her own. And the similarities to Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series? Maybe Amanda Hocking didn't mean for that to happen, or for anyone to be aware of it, but I tend to pick up on the littlest of things.

We'll start off with the whole "I love my mentor but he won't love me back th...more

3.5/5

I never expected to see Torn in our bookshelf this early, some bookstores here shelved books ahead of their publication date. It’s not really that early since this one was already published in digital format before.

What can I say? To be honest I don’t have any significant thing to say, so this is going to be just my ramblings. But in all fairness the second book was better. At least it wasn’t as flat as the first book. New characters were introduced, finally met this Loki guy. He’s intere...more

Torn picks up right where Switched left off: Wendy has just returned to her brother after running from her mother and her title. But she's not home for long before trouble finds her. Soon enough she's attacked and wakes up in a Vittra dungeon, but then she has a meeting with the king who has a bit of a surprise for her. From this point on Wendy has a lot of decisions to make regarding her future and the future of her people.

Wendy truly is torn in this book. She's torn over her sense of duty vers...more

I really love this series. It gets better and better!! I love how Wendy is starting to grow into a "queen" into this novel. We also see more character development with Finn and even the handsome Loki. In Amanda Hocking's sequel in her Trylle series. In the first book we learn about Wendy's heritage and where she comes from but in Torn we drive right into learning about her kingdom and the sacrifices she will make. I really loved this book!

The beginning picks up right at the end of Switched which...more

Torn picks up pretty much exactly where Switched left off. I like when books do that, you're not left wondering what happened in the time between. Wendy has run away from the Trylle compound to return home to her brother Matt, and her aunt. And she brought Matt's real brother, Rhys, with her. And then we are in pretty much the same situation as the first book. Both the Vittra and the Trylle are fighting to bring the princess back to their lands. Each side seems to almost have a good reason for w...more

Picking up immediately after the events in Switched, Amanda Hocking's Torn was once again an addictive read that left me breathless and refusing to set the novel down until I had finished. There's an allure to this series and its characters which I simply find irresistible!

There was some excellent character growth in this novel which I just absolutely loved! We learn there's more to Elora's cold demeanor as the Queen of the Trylle when she reveals more of her past, and suddenly, the tough love s...more

I absolutely loved this book!! I was in a bit of a reading slump so it took me awhile to get into it, but once I did I couldn't put it down. I think it was just as good as the first book, Switched , though in a different way. In Switched Wendy found out that she was a Trylle Princess and was being pursued fervently by the Vittra. Wendy discovered that there were a lot of secrets being kept from and, in Switched, she only found partial answers to very few of the questions she asked. Torn sheds li...more

It's really good, I would recommend it to people are into paranormal romance and to teenagers. I also liked this book because it would be hard to do things when you only have one choice, this I could probably reflect my life with this but not her exact problems, just torn apart from them.

REVIEW

I read these three books back-to-back-to-back on my Kindle. The story had me so engaged, that I could not put it down. I was reading in the car, at school, on my bed, at the dinner table, and in the media room. You could call it an obsession.

In this paranormal tale, Wendy learns at the age of seventeen that she is a troll. Oh, but she isn’t just ANY troll, her past is filled with mystery, deceit, and some unexpected ancestors. Amanda Hocking carefully twisted this plot with all sorts of su...more

Τη στιγμή...more

Oh boy. I am not even sure where to start. My mom always told me to start positive so...
The CONCEPT of this book is cool and intriguing.
However, execution was so undeniably childish and juvenile. Writing style was just shy of third grader quality, character dynamic tanked (badly, as opposed to the first book), and I was left with even more questions about this confusing world than the first book.
I have never been so angered by a book I was rooting for! It upsets me that I spent money on this j...more

Torn is the sequel to Amanda Hocking’s Switched. Princess Wendy is torn between the Trylle and the Vittra kingdoms and between Finn, her mysterious bodyguard, and Loki, the Vittra prince.

In Torn, Hocking masters the classic love triangle which reminds me of one of my mother’s favorite songs; Glenn Frey’s “The One You Love.”

“Are you gonna stay with the one who loves you

Or are you goin’ back to the one you love?

Someone’s gonna cry when they know they’ve lost you

Someone’s gonna thank the stars abo...more

Torn, book 2 of Amanda Hocking's Trylle trilogy, is a very easy book to read and it wouldn't charge you too much time and effort, but the writing is so plain that it lacks tone, style, tension, foreshadowing and grace---Okay, just about everything which would make the book interesting.

Instead we are once again stuck with the uninteresting Wendy's first person POV throughout the entire book, and her narration is becoming counter-productive to the story. For most of the book Wendy is focused on th...more

I really enjoyed Switched, so I was excited to receive Torn for Christmas. This book goes deeper into the Trylle society, and there's a lot more Trylle and Vittra politics. We get to know who Wendy's father was - or rather is, and we get to know more about what the future will look like. The book is never boring, and it doesn't have any unnecessary parts where you're pretty much asleep for pages at a time. It starts off with a bang that draws you in, and even though the...more

In book 2 of Switched, Torn, Wendy now lives in the castle full time and that has become her life. Wendys brohter Matt does also. Wendy, Matt, and Rhys are all being held hostage in a place Wendys not so sure of. A tracker by the name of Tove comes and helps get them out. They all return to the castle and Wendy was hoping to see who she fell in love with, Finn, but he was no longer working in that department. Wendy is a powerful girl and she can use persuasion on anyone. Tove is her trainer that...more

When I read Switched a couple of three months ago, I really enjoyed it. It was captivating and I really liked the concept of the book, the idea of changeling. Book two was a little less addicting to me, which is understandable as the middle books often ends up being a bridge between the first book and the third book.

It is easy to see why she named the novel Torn. Everyone seems to be torn between many options. Wendy is starting to get torn between her obligation and her love for Finn. I liked t...more

E aquela surpr...more

I would surely recommend this book to a friend. This book is unexplainable it is one of the best books I have ever read. I really enjoy reading this book “torn” (the whole series is great). I just believe it is an awesome great book that should be read by everyone. This book contains a little of everything romance, adventures, secrets, horror, and the best of all you can relate to this book. The book cover talks most of how interesting it is. I am satisfied in what I read; it was a book I will n...more
