This was good for one and a half commutes (total of just over an hour. It's short, sweet, and cute. It's not supposed to be very substantial, and it isn't. I have one complaint, though. The legal department that made him put the (R) and (C) symbols on Every. Single. Brand. They need to be taken out and flogged. I was very worried that START would be the same way, and I'd already pre-ordered it! Thankfully, it isn't. Quitter: Closing the Gap Between Your Day Job & Your Dream Job I'll buy; thi...more

I had read Quitter by Jon Acuff, and had known him from his website and book of the same name, Stuff Christian's Like, and I read this book as a companion book to Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace. While this book isn't as serious as Jon's other two books, I think that is more because it is a companion to Dave Ramsey's financial program. For anyone who is thinking about reading something by Dave Ramsey, or attending his Financial Peace University class, but want quick overview, it serves that purpos...more

"Surprises are like tiny grenades for budgets.." One of the most interesting things I took from this book. I listened to the audio version, which I would probably recommend over the paperback version. It's much more interesting to listen to it from the words and attitude of the author.
"You should never pay interest on M&Ms". Nuggets of gold...

FUNNY and FINANCE I never thought these 2 words could be put together in one sentence... but this book got my attention... I understand some finance, but the lingo and the "best planning ideas" don't run in my blood, this book is both informative and hilarious!
Jennifer
A fast read that cuts to the truth and humor of finances. (Which, if you replace the word "finances" with "Christianity", is also a pretty accurate way to describe another book Acuff is known for.)
Reid
Humorous Dave Barry-type anecdotes about becoming debt free and how hard it can be.

Non Dave Ramseyites wouldn't get the jokes.

Pretty fun, light read and somewhat challenging at times.
Tyler
Jon Acuff humor preaching Dave Ramsey financial tips. Brilliant. It should now be a segment of Financial Peace University. Perhaps Jon can make some appearances on the next filming/tour.
Angela
Funny but not as side-splitting as Stuff Christians Like. My favorites parts are when he compares credit cards to a bad ex-girl/boyfriend and his homage to all Dave's blue shirts!

Quick read, not too funny. But a good analogy of comparing credit card companies to a real relationship. Glad I got to read it, but glad I didn't spend any money on it.

What a waste of time, I couldn't even tell you what financial advice or debt knowledge was shared in this book. It was just one long sacrastic twit after another.
Greg
I like his on stage presentation better than his writing. The book was all good but I didn't find it a must read and I probably would recommend it to anyone.

Jon Acuff is brilliant and easy to read, and I don't mean that in an insulting way. He's relatable, hilarious, and relevant.
Mikaela
Pretty funny. Although, you definintely need to understand Dave Ramsey to get the humor in this book.
Luann Habecker
funny. if you're familiar with Dave Ramsey then it's a funny, light read.
Britney
I thought this book was very funny and clever. Even though I've never taken FPU, I've listened to the Dave Ramsey podcast enough to be in on most of the jokes.

If you "do" Dave then this book will make you laugh outloud!
Amanda
Informative and funny. I laughed out loud more than a few times.
Meg
funny, but nothing I didn't learn from Dave's podcasts =)
Tamra
Cute. Not life-changing, just cute.
Christine
He's very funny.

For those who are trying to get to financial peace, it can be a long ad tough process. This book will make you laugh and inspire you to keep going.

For those of you who are unsure whether to take the plunge or not, Jon will put your mind at ease by making you laugh about the silly things people do to get in ad out of debt. He'll also make you want to keep going.

This auxiliary book to Dave Ramsey's TMM and FP isn't essential to making it, but it sure does feel good to laugh.

This was a good companion to FPU or The Total Money Makeover, although it wasn't as funny as I expected. It might be funnier for those who are deeper in debt...
Nicole
We listened to this as an audio book (which we got free, thanks to Dave Ramsey).
First, it's very entertaining, like any Jon Acuff book. It would be an easy read full of laughs and fun along the way.

This is a good book for anyone just starting a Total Money Makeover, or someone (like us) who has been in for a while, but needed a pep talk.
Lydia
This book reads much like Jonathan Acuff's blogs, which are hilarious. If you are familiar with Dave Ramsey at all, you will find it quick and entertaining. It might be a good primer for someone who is hesitant to dive in to the Total Money Makeover because Acuff's logic is convincing as well as humorous.
Amanda
This was a quick fun read :) Had me laughing out loud at it's humor - but you would probably only get the humor if you are familiar with Dave Ramsey.
Jeffrey
This book was fun and made me laugh out loud several times. I enjoy Jon Acuff's humor and thought this was another fine work by his hand.
