1 star? 3 stars? 5 stars? I don’t know. I don’t effing know.

I loved the first 20% or so with our introduction to Kael. We got to see the full extent of his unapologetic baddassness. He was seriously baddass and I loved it. We also saw how he became a Master. When did he learn this about himself? When any good Master learns. At age twelve. Kael is on a job (he’s the assassin in our story) and while doing the job the victim’s son was there and saw everything. Kael went to the boy’s room with ever...more
This book deals with a BDSM kink that isn’t always popular with fans. It’s the Daddy kink and while BDSM fans may not mind it, the problematic characterization could also be an issue. Unfortunately Angel acts like a VERY immature child, which makes his Daddy dynamic with Kael uncomfortable. It’s not just a kink, Angel alternates between acting like a bratty eight year old and spouting out wizened psychological insight. It’s very uneven and kind of ridiculous while Kael is more evenly portrayed b...more
This one's more 4.5 stars, but I like to round up.

I really enjoyed the progression of Kael and Angel's relationship, and I loved how focused this book was on the relationship and characters. Sure, there is action and suspense, but I felt the book was very character driven vs action/suspense driven, and I loved that about it. I wanted to hug Angel so many times throughout the book, and I felt the author did a great job making him a believable 18 yr old. He's impulsive sometimes, insecure yet stro...more

Another book that is outside of my comfort zone, let see how I go..

The plot of this book was just FUCKINGTASTIC!!!!
I have read a lot of assassin working for the government stories, and this is just one of my favourites.

If you like BDSM, you are going to love this book, for me, I hate it with passion!!!!
I would have rated it 5 stars or 10, if it wasn't for that, what a way to spoil a good book with that crap.

I could not get into the Daddy kink, and that kid said it constantly o...more

Freakin' awesome! Smexy kink meets spy thriller and I loved every single character. Seriously, the characters are written so well that I loved everyone of them--even the complete wanker, Conran. The emotion and motivations are so well done that you can't help but empathize with each.

Now granted, this book might totally wig some out with the featured m/m age play, but when I say that it seemed so natural that you couldn't help but understand it--I mean it. This is so out of my reading range and...more

I had this for months on my currently-reading shelf because I keep forgetting to delete it.

Basically this book was a disappointment from the very beginning. I can't even remember the name of the assassin so I'll just call him that. Assassin, a cold-blooded assassin who kills with ease and has a pathological mind is sent to kill a guy. So Assassin goes and finds this pathetic human being who is legally an adult but in his mind is like 12. Or less. Assassin kills the guy and Angel, the pathetic gu...more

At first I thought I would be turned off by the relationship between Daddy (Kael) and Angel but as the story developed so did my love for these two and their relationship. Kael is not a mean or abusive Dom but one who overcomes a lot of inner conflict to find that he has fallen in love with his waif of a sub. Angel simply cries out to be loved--having been tossed away by an uncaring mother and set adrift emotionally to find his way in the world. I found myself compelled to read on and was reward...more

First things first, thought I don't exactly find reading daddy kinks exactly panty ripping, it doesn't repel me enough to be counted as 'out of my comfort range'.

However, in saying that, I am actually kind of rethinking that now that I've read this. It was so... *shudder*. All I'm going to say is, how the fuck can you (poo) in front of someone and still see them the same way? Hypothetically, if I were to ask you to (poo) in front of me and we were dating, and you did, and then I said "Nope, you...more

I've only read a few m/f daddy books and didn't think much of them, but lots of friends loved this and I did too, so I guess it's the m/f aspect I don't much care for.

Angel could be so grown-up on one hand, but could turn on a dime and be an immature 18-yo in the next second. But this gives him and Kael room to grow in the series and he's changed Kael's life so much in a short time. Kael's last sentence of the book was powerful:

“I had no idea how lonely I was until I wasn't lonely anymore.”...more
The first few chapters of this book were genius. It had the potential to hit one of my larger guilty pleasure buttons: big, ruthless sociopath with an interesting job description and the scrappy younger guy he acquires in suspicious circumstances; then the kinky, tumultuous relationship they develop (okay, I think I just described the plot of the vastly superior Stockholm Syndrome and this book can only suffer in the comparison). Anyway, at that point I was prepared to love it, but then Angel ha...more
2.5 stars I feel like I wanted to like this so much more than I did. I was hoping for something like Zero at the Bone with a BDSM twist, but unfortunately there were a few things that kept me from getting too attached to these characters.

A main problem for me was that even though Angel is supposedly 18 he acts more like 8. He is extremely immature and it shows up in a lot of ways including temper tantrums and it did get a little annoying. Secondly, given how inexperienced Angel was, it seemed li...more
Off to a great start with the first book in the Angel and the Assassin series! Kael is a cold hearted agent in the Secret Intelligence Service and is sent on a job to kill Sven, an arms dealer. However, the murder is witnessed by Angel, the stepson of Sven and Kael knows that he really should do away with the witness. Kael can't bring himself to kill Angel, he feels a connection with the boy and therefore he takes him home.

Angel's been starved of affection for most of his life and wants someone...more

This Book Left Me Thoroughly Befuddled (a.k.a. The Book That Screwed My Brain)

I've started this review and deleted it three times because nothing coming out of my brain regarding this book is making and damn sense. Angel and the Assassin has completely thrown me for a loop.

Kael Saunders is a 32 year old government assassin who on one of his jobs is spotted making his kill. Spotted by newly turned 18 year old Angel Gabriel Button. Angel is the stepson of Kael's target. Now, right from the beginni...more

Loved this one. It was intriguing, a bit disturbing, and always entertaining. Characters were top notch, the story flowed very well, and the sex was damn hot. Kael is quite the imaginative Dom/Master and the thing I liked best about the story was how he handled the BDSM scenes. A tough guy (with a CAPITAL T!) who took care of the sub. He's like the dream Dom in some ways. Very aware of himself, the sub, what was happening. He didn't just take control he was control! That is what made the rest of...more

A very enjoyable kinky, M/m, assassin story! The character development and the writing was excellent - I especially loved Kael as the big bad hit man, who's perhaps not that bad after all. There was some disturbing (for me) age play/daddy kink, but it worked for the story. Overall, an intriguing and fun journey with wonderfully unique characters. Would recommend this to any BDSM M/m fan.
Please, someone tell me that's it's a parody.
That's the only reason this book can exist.
Everything is exaggerated to the extreme, it's ridiculous.
I love Daddy/boy dynamic but in this one I felt a deep malaise.
That's not a sane-safe relation.
The writer give me the impression that he has taken his info about Dom/sub relation and univers in a cheap 3x movies.

A surprisingly decent read that exceeded my expectations. I expected this book to be one of those erotica-romance novels where the entire plot is actually a plot device and an excuse for sex. In many ways, this book is that. Decent writing and exploration of the characters managed to elevate it from PWP status, making it more like porn with a little plot.

Some problems I had with the book:

1. Kael clearly lives in a world where condoms never break. How else would it explain his foolhardy preoccupa...more
Very good BDSM May-December m/m romance about a cold-hearted British government assassin sent to the US to kill an international arms dealer who's supposed to be alone in the house... Strangely, the assassin finds himself unable to kill the man's stepson, who witnessed the hit, and instead brings him back to the UK.
I found both characters incredibly engaging and the storyline unique. Nice bit of BDSM in it and positive character growth. The daddy kink didn't bother me like I originally thought it would.

This book is so ridiculous, I don't think I can make myself read another word. It's not even trying to be believable in any way. It's not very well written, and the dialogue is...pretty bad. It's the book equivalent of a bad porno.

Here are some examples of absurdities I already encountered:
- Kael's handler, who Kael raped at school when they were younger, now wants Kael to fuck him.
- Kael goes to kill a guy, and this guy wants Kael (who he doesn't know and who just shows up randomly at...more

Kael is a natural-born assassin...from an early age he has learned that his survival in a very class oriented society means being better: smarter, faster, more ruthless. As a child he was sent on scholarship (my guess, it’s never explained) to an expensive boy’s school where he learned that physical domination can protect him from ridicule and abuse. He discovered very quickly what he was made of and how far he was willing to go. He also knew at a very young age that he was gay and had a penchan...more

*squints suspiciously*
Is this Hannibal-inspired? That extraordinary sense of smell thing and the mysterious female of his past named Misha thing...
I'm only about 50 pages into the reread, so it still stands to be seen. Seems quite suspicious, though.

A couple problems:
Angel...what was with him? He's supposed to be 18, but he often sounds much it just a "Daddy" kink thing or what because there was a point where I started wondering if he was autistic or something. Li...more

I have been trying to figure out how to write a coherent review for this book that would make sense to others. The plot is fairly simple, assassin goes to kill bad guy. The kill is witnessed by collateral damage in the way of Angel, our 18 year old twink looking for a Daddy/Master/Sir so he can be a slave/house boy/sub/sometimes surrogate son. This should not work - there are just so many things that are wrong with this relationship and thinking about it should skeeve the shit out of everyone. B...more

A brutal assassin. A witness to one of his hits who has daddy fantasies. A very odd relationship develops between the two men as they must fight to keep one of them alive.

There are a million reasons why I should not like this book. Angel is one of the most naive characters I have ever read. Kael, the assassin, is a jerk who only cares about himself and his needs. For some reason, I really enjoyed it. There were a few things that bugged m...more
A lot of people liked this, so I guess I'm going against the flow with this one. Not that I hated it - it was Ok...

I'm not really into the daddy kink, so I think that's a big part of why I didn't love this. The story was supposed to be surrealistic, an it was. The characters were a bit over the top for me, but I think that's why so many others lived this. I'll keep chugging along in the series, but so far, it's just OK.

Great story that has been reviewed to death so there's little that I can add. Well written, smooth read, a little annoying with all the "daddy", hot sex and a HEA ending. Loved the quote at the end. Definitely recommended.
