When I first heard about Stewart Lewis’ You Have Seven Messages, the first thing that came to mind was the movie One Missed Call. Now, I have not seen One Missed Call, but I think I can safely say that You Have Seven Messages is, in fact, nothing like it. For those of you whose minds play similar word association games, do not fear. Or maybe that’s just me.

Where do I start? I loved this book! I read it too fast, I never wanted it to end. From the beginning to the end, there was something I wanted to know the answer to. When I first started reading this book I didn’t know what to expect. I decided to read this book because I thought the title was cool, and judged the book by its cover, but there is so much more. Mystery and romance and everything in between. My favorite part of the book was when the mystery began, I had so many questions and wanted

If you pick up this book thinking it's going to be a mystery, or at the very least, have mysterious elements, you will be sadly mistaken and probably bored. Moon/Luna/Malia is the daughter of a famous film-maker and a famous model who died a year earlier. She has a little brother named Tile. Really. Named after a hardware store staple. Moon/Luna/Malia likes to take pictures and knows a lot of famous people. And now she wants to unravel the mystery around her mother's death. Except if you

It was really hard to build sympathy for a character who just isn't sympathetic. Luna/Moon has everything in the world, and she's not afraid of it. She doesn't have her mom, who died tragically in a cab incident, but she seems less sad about that than she is about figuring out her mom might have been less-than-honest about her life. It was a lot of Luna getting her dreams when it comes to making a name for herself in photography because she had connections via her parents (who were big deal folk

Luna is a teenager who lives in Manhattan. She has the world at her fingertips, and has some serious dislikes when it comes to snooty girls who, frankly, give her a headache. She’s not into the ‘tweenish’ stuff like make-up and boys, she is actually quite a loner. Luna loves her little brother and her big-time movie director father, but the one thing that is hurting her more than life is how much she misses her mom.
Luna’s mom was a stunning model turned writer, who was also More...

"But how do you really know what's true? Is there some big book of truth?" "The book is here." She placed her hand where my heart is.

I didn't mind You Have Seven Messages. In fact, I quite enjoyed it up til the last chunk of the story.
Luna's mother dies after being hit by a taxi cab in NYC. While cleaning her mother's workspace, she finds her cell phone with 7 unheard messages. Luna begins listening to the messages one day at a time and discovers that each one leaves a little mystery for her to solve. She hopes that by solving the small mysteries, she'll discover how her mother could have possibly been dis More...

I downloaded the sample chapter of You Have Seven Messages and I was hooked. I loved the premise of Luna finding her mother's cell phone and trying to uncover what actually happened the night she died. I loved Luna's mixture of worldliness and innocence. I loved the snappy dialog.
Why did I give it only 3 stars? I felt like some of the elements were over the top. Having Luna know both Orlando Bloom and Drew Barrymore did nothing to advance the plot and seemed to be little more than grat More...

I'm far from the young adult target audience and I loved it. I can understand another reader's comment that Luna, the book's main character, had an unbelievably glamourous life for a 15 year old, and I would have thought the same had I not actually become acquainted with several 20something men and women who are born and bred New Yorkers; that's what their young lives were like. Could a 15 year old girl have overnight success and land a gallery exhibit? Anything's possible in New York.

I thought that this book was slow when I started reading it. I continued reading it even though I wasn't sure if it would grow on me, and it definitely caught my attention. It is only slow in the very beginning. My favorite part of this book is the ending because it has a lot of the same elements that were incorporated into the beginning. Luna had left New York in the middle of the book, but she was back there with her family in the end just like she had been in the beginning. I do not like how

I loved this book. I know many peple disliked the ending and I can get that b/c the part in New Yprk and the part in Europe are almost like two entirely different novels. However the final bit was my favorite part; the first part of the book was good in the way that many YA novels are good but the final part truly shone for me. It greatly reminded me of a Madeleine L'Engle novel in tone b/c Luna is like so many of L'Engle's main characters super adult and incredibly young at the same time. F

I almost went with four stars for this book, because parts of it had beautiful prose that made me think. Other parts of the book, however, felt disjointed and off track. The protagonist, Luna, does not come across as a true 'fifteen' to me; even bearing in mind that she is a New Yorker and the daughter of two celebrities. I would hesitate to put this book in my classroom, because it skates around the edges of what is appropriate for teens (Which I often overlook if the book has a lot to offer),

I checked this out, because I can’t resist stories where people are piecing together clues about someone else. Luna discovers her deceased mother’s cell phone, still with seven unheard messages. Those messages lead Luna to discover things she never knew about her mother.
This has some of the elements of one of those books where kids run around and have adventures in NYC, like The Saturdays, or When You Reach Me, but if you crossed it with a Gossip Girl novel. Luna’s father is a f More...

I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed by the fact that the book wasn't anything like I was expecting. The premise made it seem like the whole book was supposed to be about the seven messages on the mom's phone, and her figuring out what the details of her mom's death were and all that. But there were so many other details/other situations sprinkled in, it took away from that plot line.
I did enjoy reading it. I kind of liked Luna and her sense of humor, and her family dynamic More...

I must say, I was really disappointed upon finishing this book. No wait, slash that, halfway through the book I already felt the disappointment building up. A lot of things just didn't click for me but I kept reading in hopes of seeing improvement but alas there was close to none.
This book had so much potential and I guess the main reason I got disappointed is my high expectations of it. It wasn't really a mystery, to be honest. It wasn't much of a romance either. I didn't really feel More...

If the truth were only one voice message away, would you listen to the message? You Have Seven Messages by Stewart Lewis contemplates that very question, pondering if the whole truth and nothing but the truth distorts a person’s vision of the past.
Lewis creates a likeable bunch of characters in this novel, including some elbow-rubbing celebrity name-dropping. He poses daunting questions about truth and a parent’s obligation to shelter a child from family secrets. The young brother, T More...

Expectation: When I was checking this book out of my school's library, the librarian said "That's a good one." I smiled at her and I was expecting the thrill of a lifetime.
Characters: I liked all of them. But I have to admit, at times Drina became annoying. So did her "mom". Maybe it's just because I can't relate. My favorite charcter(s) from the book are definitely Tile, Oliver and Richard. I just... they were phenomenal.

It has been a year since Lunas mother died. One day Luna got home and no one was home so she was going through her moms old stuff and found a key to her old studio/apartment. The next day she took a cab to go see her moms studio, when she walked into the room it was a total disaster there was an inch of dust on the floor the blankets were all skattered. A readable novel for teens that does a good job of exploring the intricacies of human relationships. The author excelled at keeping the observations of Luna, the main character, consistent with the age-appropriate and still-developing teen understanding of navigating love.
Luna was put in the position to re-evaluate her feelings about her mother, her parents' marriage, and her own blossoming romantic feelings. Stewart Lewis stayed refreshingly away from hyperbole and cliche, and pres More...

This story was well written and intense and beautifull and sad. I felt connected to Luna's grief, to her first taste of falling in love, of having her heart broken of betrayal, learning about forgiveness. I especially loved the way author wrote the descriptions. I could really picture her photographs and see Italy and Paris like magic. I loved simple innocence that ended up not being so simple and the realization that things in life like love and marriage and relationships and truth are flui

I really like this book. It's both a mystery and romance novel at the same time. It's also realistic fiction, which is one genre of books that I really like. I am really getting into "You have Seven Messages". It's really beginning to get good. Even though I could predict what is happening next, I like to see how the main character, Luna (also called moon), handles the situation. Right now she is trying to figure out the mystery of her mothers death and I am excited to know what reall

I don't feel like this book is a 3 nor do I think its a 4. When I was reading this I discovered her mom had a affair but I don't think the girl was mad at her mom and that just made me mad I mean how could you not be mad, she was with another man. During the book the girl flashes back to when she can home early and she had found her mom in the tub on the phonw and it made the daughter think that maybe she was talking to her lover and that part got me soo mad because how dare someone do that in y

The best way I can describe this novel is painfully, stunningly real. It is absolutely the most down-to-earth, believable novel I have read this year. Luna's struggle with the loss of her mother is equally heart-breaking and relatable, and her raw feelings are perfectly portrayed through Lewis's skilled writing and in-depth character development.
The novel itself had personality, and Luna's voice (as well as Lewis's writing) was unique and likeable. The truth of the plotline, story, More...

While I originally wanted to read You Have Seven Messages so much I requested it from my local library for purchase, this book did not live up to the hype I gave it in my mind. Overly simplistic prose and a slightly obnoxious narrator just ruined it for me.
While I was reading this book, I was thinking about how little Luna sounded like a teenage girl. I mean, she's only just turned 15. I'm 14. There should be some similarities in the way we think and talk. Yet Luna wavered between so More...

Luna is still grieving a year after her mother's death. She finds her mother's cell phone and there are seven messages her mother never heard. Luna listens to the messages one by one, and - eventually - what was hidden is revealed.
What Luna accomplished with her photographs might not be believable to some, but I thought it was realistic; especially since she was blessed by association (her dad was a successful film director). She sure did get around a lot for a fifteen-year-old girl, More...

My Thoughts: When I first started You Have Seven Messages I didn't know what to expect. We are introduced to Luna whose mother has died. She lives with her father and brother Tile. I really liked Tile, he was such a fun and smart kid. And he and Luna got a long and liked each other a great deal as siblings.
We are also introduced to next door neighbor Oliver. Oliver is a year older than Luna. Luna has been crushing on him for a while.

I really liked this story. I couldn't put it down because I wanted to know what happened next. This story follows a fifteen year old girl named Luna as she tries to discover the events leading to the accidental death of her mother. Luna finds her moms cellphone and on it, there are seven messages and with it, Luna tries to uncover the mystery behind her mother's death. I really enjoyed the storyline and seeing things from Luna's perspective. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Clocking in at less than 300 pages this one was a breeze to read through, which is a good thing because I was not impressed. Luna is a 14-yr old that has recently lost her mother after she was hit by a taxi in a busy NYC street. Her mother was a famous model and her dad is a famous movie writer/director and Luna is still curious about the particulars of her mother's death. When she finds her mother's cell phone that contains the last messages before her death, Luna listens hoping to find some

I didn't like Luna. She didn't seem like she could be a real person. At times she was very childish and at others she acted like an adult, but there never seemed to be a reason for the change. The story was lacking. It felt like the lesson that people aren't always what you think was lost in the idea that you can't be complete without a boyfriend. It also felt like the same ideas where repeated about every twenty pages or so.
