Sara lived in a world with constant security around her. She was being protected from the kinapper who took her and her twin sister Kim 25 years ago. This man has been in contact with her and invades her privacy causing her to relocate frequently. One day, she meets Adam Black, a handsome retired football player, in an elevator where they get stuck together and alone. Their lives crossed paths for a reason and things will never be the same. Sara is selective at revealing the secrets of her past...more
This was a recommendation from a good friend. The protagonist is basically in constant hiding as in a sort of witness protection because she and her twin were abducted as children and held for ransom. Her sister died. The man who took them has hunted her since childhood, leaving notes and presents on holidays and birthdays. Her brother works for the FBI or something, so they have a ton of secret service men at their disposal all the time. A little into the book you learn that she is an ambassado...more
How has this author written so many books and I have never heard of her???? A friend lent me this book (as well as the whole O'Malley series) and I could NOT put it down. I read the whole book in a day. My friend characterized it as a Thriller/Romance book. I would call it Thriller for sure, but it was so much more---mystery and crime and living a life of faith applied. As for romance, it's true romance without the steamy scenes (which I appreciated!) So, here's the ridiculously brief synopsis.....more

My mom told me years ago that her friend's daughter wrote books and gave me one to read. Her friend's daughter was Dee Henderson. Over the years, I've read most of Dee's books and have decided to start rereading them. Her novels aren't the squeaky clean, perfect charactered, sugary, romance novels some Christian women authors write that I just can't stomach. They are in depth novels you want read almost in one setting, and yes, even reread. I like the fact that the romance thread is there but is...more
Danger The Shadows, is about Sara Walsh, who was abducted for nine days when she was a young child. Sara was found in a dark basement and the man who kidnapped her is not and continues to terrorize her. She is a protected woman, living with FBI protection and moving constantly to keep a step ahead of the insane man who wants to control her.
This is one of the books in the O'Malley series. It is filled with romance, mystery and wit. ss One stormy day she accidently meets a famous retired footba...more

Dee Henderson is a favourite author in our house & we really enjoy her O'Malley Series, of which this is the prequel.
25 years ago Sara Richman was kidnapped along with her twin sister Kim & held for ransom. 9 days later they were found, Sara alive, Kim dead. One of the kidnappers was found & jailed. The other has been stalking Sara ever since. Her older brother Dave has trained as a FBI Special Agent & is lead on her protection detail. A life of anonymity is one Sara has to lead...more

Danger in the Shadows is the prequel to Dee Henderson's well-known O'Malley Series about seven foster children who grow up and create their own adopted family. Dee Henderson writes wonderful Christian suspense. The protagonist, Sara Walsh, lives in constant hiding from her childhood kidnapper. The man who kidnapped her never completed his mission. She is his only loose end. Sara lives in constant fear of the little presents and letters left by her childhood kidnapper. Afraid of the dark and fear...more
The story is a woman was kidnapped as a little girl, with her twin sister. The sister died and the woman was simply very lucky to have survived. The main culprit was never caught and is still stalking her. Her brother is her main protector, so it is very handy that he is a crack FBI agent.
The thing that really bothered me was how strong Sara had to be simply to survive, but just because someone who fancied her was persistent, she kept giving in. {{{{{Spoilers}}}}} Looking at it objectively, one...more

(Genre:Christian romance/mystery) I had a hard time rating this story. I was tempted to make it a 2 stars rating, but that felt too low considering how much I liked the beginning of the book. I spent some time analyzing it and this is what I decided about this particular author. Dee Henderson writes nice books. I appreciate her characters and the standards and the morals that they possess. It is refreshing after reading mainstream novels to have something that feels healthier. :) Henderson almos...more
For the last twenty five years, Sara Walsh has been hiding from a man who is obsessed with finding and tormenting her. As a child, Sara was kidnapped for ransom, and though she was eventually recovered after a traumatic experience, one of the kidnappers escaped with the ransom money and has been hunting her ever since.
Trained to keep a low profile and to be consistently cautious, Sara is both delighted and horrified, when she captures the attention and affection of former pro-football player Ada...more

Well, this book was fairly painful to read. I don't know what it is about "Christian" books that make them synonymous with "poor writing," but this book does nothing to break the stereotype. Here are some examples p 73 "The reception area was a profusion of flowers and fauna." Did the author not know that fauna refer to wildlife of which there was none in this particular office area? Or what about the tedious types of sentences like this one on page 170 "The oven timer went off. Sara helped set...more

Dee Henderson does an extaordinary job in this prequel. It is the first book by this author that I have read and I was not disappointed. Sara Walsh is a woman with dark memories and a horrifying past. At the age of six she and her twin sister Kim were held captive by two men for nine excruciating days, after which they were found...but one day late, as only one made it out alive. One of the captors was apprehended, the other is still at large and years later as a grown woman Sara is still lookin...more

I got this book as a freebie, and although it wasn't my normal type of book the story immediately pulled me in. Ms. Henderson has an excellent story which had one big problem for me--the timeline. It was difficult to believe that the amount of security around her existed for 25 years, or that with all the resources available to the FBI who were willing to place this amount of security around her that they couldn't provide better protection where Sara couldn't be found or couldn't find the kidnap...more
I loved the O'Malley series by Dee Henderson so very much, but I never read the prequel about Sara (Dave's sister) and Adam. I'm so glad I chose this one for one of my challenges this month.
Sometimes it's nice to read a story where I don't have to substitute words in my head for every bad word I read, and when people say God, they are actually talking to GOD. I love Dee Henderson's books because she takes Christian principles and places them so perfectly within really great stories about regula...more

I honestly think this series of books are about the best I have ever read. They make you stop and think about life and how you are facing the trials in your life. It encourages you to work on strengthening your own faith and closeness to God. I have read the whole series several times already and ejoy them just as much the second, third and fourth reads as I did the first. In some ways even more as I seem to get more out of the book each time I read it. She is living her life under very difficul...more

The book is considered the Prequel to the O'Malley series.
Sara and her twin sister were kidnapped when they were young. After 9 stressful days, Sara was rescued but her twin Kim died. There were two kidnappers, one was caught but one has been on the loose for years.
Sara now in her 30s is being protected by her brother Dave an FBI agent. She is an author - she writes and illustrates children's books and is also an author or thrillers.

2.75-3 Stars. I didn't love it, I didn't hate it. I'm not a religious person persay. I believe in something higher, but at this point in my life I am not sure what it is. I question why we are here. What is the point of the human race. What happens when you die. Questions like that, but I have a hard time with one person being the "be all, end all". Now that that is out of the way, Sara and Adam were likable enough. I would have liked to know a bit more about what Sara endured during her captivi...more
I read this for a book club and I can't say that I really loved it. It was an easy read and clean, but there were so many holes that I had a hard time believing the story. First off, if she is in hiding from a stalker and he has been keeping tabs on her, why is she living in her Grandmother's home? If she is such a popular author, how is she truly able to keep her anonymity? The relationship between the two was forced for me. I also didn't like the constant references to what happened during the...more
I hadn't realized when I picked this book off the library shelf, that it is a Christian suspense novel. It would appeal to anyone who likes a clean, suspenseful story without sex or liquor :). I have to admit I was amused that none of the characters ever drank beer or wine. After all, I think a good many "good" Christians do imbiibe those things once in a while! Anyway, the story was good and believeable (it's nice what money can do for people), and I would recommend it for a quick read to anyon...more
This is not the kind of book I enjoy reading, a book many would classify as chick lit, but since it came at a reasonable price on Kindle and I could listen to it while on the treadmill, I decided to see what Henderson's many fans enjoy. Sara is an author and illustator haunted by the terror of spending nine days as a kidnap victim with her twin sister 25 years earlier. She and her twin sister spent this period chained to the wall for nine days, after which her sister died. Sara manages to escape...more
Having ready the O’Malley Series, I wondered why I had never read this prequel. When I happened to see it free on Kindle, I snatched it up right away. I, for one, love a good romance thriller and Dee Henderson never seems to disappoint me. With vivid descriptions that often tie directly into the psyche of the characters she has created, her novels are always a fun, and fast, read.

Dee Henderson is one of my favorite authors. Her stories ALWAYS carry me away from the hustle and bustle of my life. I become engrossed from page one!
Danger in the Shadows is the story of a reclusive author, Sara Walsh, her brother the FBI agent and a retired, pro football player, Adam Black.
Sara and her twin were kidnapped when they were children and her sister died on the eighth day of their ordeal. But it doesn't end there. She continues to be tormented by one of the kidnappers and therefore...more

I had never read Dee Henderson before. I've had a lot of people tell me how good she writes. I am glad I got this free book for my Kindle. Well, I like free stuff, and it was a great book! Ms. Henderson even won the Romance Writers of America RITA Award for Best Inspirational Romance (2000) for this book. Now if that doesn't say something!

I really enjoy Dee Henderson's books. She has a way of telling an entertaining story with great characters who show and express there faith in a way that makes the story better and doesn't come off as "preachy".
while there were some aspects of the story I wasn't sure about... FBI protection team for 25 years and your brother in charge of the team? I'm not sure that would realistically happen especially since Dave was a child when the kidnapping occurred. But getting past that....
