Glamour starts with Rae, a super awesome fast runner, absolutely gorgeous, better at everything than everyone, chick who is studying to kill demons. She breaks out of the protective walls through a hole that mysteriously appeared right in front of her (umm ok.) and takes a run in the woods, where demons and evil stuff lives.

Okay, this book doesn’t need much of my over analysis, nor does it need me inferring all the super-secret squirrel influences that I often see in the stories. I’ll cut to the chase.

I'm 2/3 of the way through this book and am currently debating whether or not I should continue reading it. I enjoyed the initial premise of Rae finding out that she is a demon and exploring her powers and learning about herself. However, not enough time is taken to get to know any of the characters, and the plot moves along so quickly that the story is choppy. I did not like the characters as well. There was absolutely no character development, I didn't really know anything about them. And they were all so unrealistic, how they acted, how they felt. Breandan seems so forced and I seriously cannot see what his deal is. Her friend Alex should have been more involved in the story, considering her end. Devlin was interesting but the author could have made him sooo much more awesome. And Rae. I hated her. I could not stand her, I found her incredibly annoying. First of all, I got the impression she was actually really dumb. For instance, she should have kept low profile in school, and instead asked a bunch of questions that made her suspicious. Also, the thing about Devlin, I cannot believe how naive she was about him. How could she have not seen it comming, that he was a fairy too? I got frustrated with her. She kept making such stupid decisions, and when things got confusing, and nor I or her knew what was going on, she didn't ask any questions. Any other person would imediately want to know what's going on. Also, she gives in too easily. If I were her, I would demand they make me go home after shool because I would be too worried about Tomas and what he would do. But she just let them take her away no matter how much she wanted to go. The biggest bothersome thing was the kissing though. What the fuck was with everyone trying to touch her, kiss her, etc.? I found it so absurd how everyone imediately wanted her. And at the beginning, when she did not yet know Breandan, she just let him kiss her and she didn't even want it. She just stood there like the stupidest idiot ever, trying to figure out what the hell is happening. The same thing repeated with Devlin. Also it bothered me how she said to Breandan that she accepts their bond, and seconds later, she almost jumps Tomas and when Breandan asks her about it, she says it is none of his bussines. How the hell is it not his bussines if he is her mate? Anyway, I feel like I have complained too much about this book so I will end this review. The one last thing I need to say is, I wish the author thought her idea, the plot and the characters through. I wish she had taken more time to make this book better because it really does have potential. (less)

I am really disappointed in this one. It sounds so good, and it was free, and I was excited to read it. Unfortunately I only got to 40% before it came down to either giving it up as abandoned or clawing my eyes out because I tried to read another word and… well, I like having eyes.

I really enjoyed this book! I was a little dubious when I started reading it, but once I got into the swing of it, I didn't put it down. The story is rather fast paced, but I liked that, some stories tend to drag things out, so it was refreshing to see everything happen so quick. Rae didn't have much time to process things because her world turned upside down overnight.

It was a fairly quick read and I enjoyed every bit of it. Although, there were some editing issues. I have read alot of fairy books and this one definitely stands alone. It wasn't like anything else I have read. I enjoyed the characters and Rae the main character is hilarious. I want to give this book a glowing review, I really do. But I just can't. This is the biggest rush job of a piece of literature that I've ever read. First, grammar and spelling were atrocious. Honestly, it looked like a pretty good story. And Ms Fletcher shows a good bit of talent. This book might even qualify for awesome if it weren't for two very unavoidable facts:

The premise of the book holds potential yet it is executed poorly. The time frame is ridiculously short, resulting in what can only be referred to as a clusterFuck of events that are thrown like snowballs, they initially hit you hard but then just melt away into nothing. The female protagonist is fickle and to be honest an emotional tart and the author lacks the ability to weave the threads of plot so it's all rather messy. I wanted to like the characters yet they lacked substance to back up any initial interest. The female protagonist is that overused cliche of insipid meets fickle with the typical 'she's strong really. honest!' yet it's been done far far better by other authors.

The bond/tie was an interesting idea yet was entirely stripped of power and totally discredited by five minutes with a vampire. She didn't appear genuinely torn, rather just a disingenuous loathsome little girl who wouldn't know a true emotion or mystical pull if it slapped her in the face.

Quite frankly I found myself reading this with my internal narrator constantly pulling a face and muttering 'urgh, really? seriously?'

I really wanted to like this book. Really, I did. As this was one of the first books I bought (well, it was free, so downloaded is probably a better word to use) for my Kindle I had high expectations for the book. I loved the cover of the book and I loved the idea behind the plot.
However, from the word "go" I knew this book just wasn't up to scratch. There were many reasons for this:
THE PLOT: The main problem with the plot was that it just didn't make sense! I also felt it moved along too quickly in some places- and too slowly in others. For instance, for someone who has been brought up to hate and to hunt demons, Rae is awfully accepting of her true status as a demon-fairy thingy (I couldn't figure out which of the two she was).
THE CHARACTERS: Oh Rae, I tried to like you. I really did. But you just annoyed me so much. I was hoping you would be one of those strong female characters, but no, instead you seemed to want to make out with every guy you met. Seriously, you might want to get some therapy for that- I don't think it's normal! A little more character development would have helped here, particularly where Alex and Conall were concerned, as I didn't feel sad/angry for any of the characters when something bad happened to them, which is a kind of a must in a novel.
THE GRAMMAR: I understand I probably downloaded a rough draft of this book,but still, the amount of typos and the awful grammar made the story more than a little hard to read. Sometimes I would have to re-read bits to figure out just who was saying what and just who was fighting who, which made for one massive headache.
OVERALL VERDICT: The idea behind the story was a good one and, with perhaps a little more thought and planning involved, this book could have been an intriguing, exciting novel.Sadly, it fell short of the mark and instead we receive "Glamour (Rae Wilder)".
FINAL THOUGHTS: Thank God I didn't have to pay for this book!(less)

After entering the forest...
1. She gets lost.
2. She runs into her teacher and another demon hunter killing a fairy. She finds this horrible which I find a little strange if you really think about it she grew up learning to hate demons so why would she care so much not that I don't think it would be horrible just saying she is supposed to be training to do this. I must say I didn't think about this too much at the time I was reading it but still.
3. She runs away after punching the demon hunter. She gets chased by dogs released.
4. She runs into this guy named Breandan. She gets saved by him. It's love at first sight and according to Breandan, they are bonded and meant to be together.
5. She finds out she is a fairy and so is Breandan. for me at least I could go along with 4 and 5. I am used to these teenage love stories where they are instantly attracted to each other. I like reading love stories.
6. Breandan leaves back at the wall to go find some vampire, he is supposed to be hunting.
7. Rae starts heading back and she runs into said Vampire named Tomas. She decides to trust him and save him from being killed from the sun. She also decides to listen to his story even though she was brought up to hate vampires and knows how dangerous they are.

I am just going to fast forward this now. I mean I didn't have much of a problem with the story up until I got to the part where I am now... I had no problem with the story line being a little crazy and not the greatest. I kind of looked at the story as fanfiction which I do read on occasion so I am used to writers that are not the greatest story tellers. Anyway to get to the point that really annoyed me about the story, so She just learned about being a fairy and her future. The white witch that told her, her future basically told her if you try and help the vampire its going to end badly. besides that, there was some drama at her school she goes to but I really don't feel like retelling it. It's a lot to write. I will tell you she made a few bad mistakes and asked some questions she probably shouldn't have... Anyways, she spent a wonderful night with her fairy soul mate when she should have been dealing with a hunger vampire in her closet. Breandan and her are basically inseparable because they are so in love. Right after that, she goes back to her room where she gets attacked by the demon hunters from the forest who figured out it was her. The vampire comes out and kills one of them and then he also bites Rae. Now here is where I began to become increasing annoyed. The vampire bites and right after that she acts like okay, whatever like haha I almost died but that's fine. I would like to add previously she described the vampire as ugly, terrifying, and smelled repellent. After he bites her and starts to talk to her about what he came to talk about they engage in a make out session. (Note: She seriously was just being all love dovey with Breandan not even an hour ago.) She describes him now as Hot, mysterious, and smells of minerals and wet grass (I don't know about you but that doesn't sound like that great of a smell but maybe that's just me and might I add the girl he just killed bodies still there). During this make out session, Breandan comes and starts a fight, which she gets upset about but I find understandable. Breandan gets hurt to the point where he is dying. The vampire carries him to this old human city and Rae comes too. Rae calls for help using her fairy powers. She is distraught and doesn't want to lose him but apparently she is not sad enough to have a little make out session near his dying body with vampire boy. At this point,I just could not take anymore of this book. I don't know about you but that was disturbing to me. She moves way to fast for someone who has never been with any guys before these two boys. Well, that's what I have to say about the book and I am sorry but I needed to rant. The story had potential but then the romance love triangle just got too weird for me. It also just made really upset and annoyed. I must say I do not like Rae at all...

This is all in great part due to the bad pacing, the horrible grammar, the spelling mistakes, the missing words, the lack of transitions between some scenes, etc. I often considered dropping it, especially when I had I give up on trying to understand what was going on, on what the author meant.

This is all in great part due to the bad pacing, the horrible grammar, the spelling mistakes, the missing words, the lack of transitions between some scenes, etc. I often considered dropping it, especially when I had I give up on trying to understand what was going on, on what the author meant.

One thing that somewhat infuriates me, however, is how the author won't admit that she needs better editing. I once wrote to her on Wattpad with my thoughts, encouraging her to get a new and better editor, to consider writing more carefully, and so on. She simply said that that was her "style" of writing, and that if someone failed to understand and accept it as so, then they shouldn't read her book; or something along those lines. Either she's in denial, or she thinks way too highly of herself to see the truth. And this will only hinder her true potential.

Nonetheless, as I already implied, this book had great potential; and for this, I chose to read it until the end. The premise is indeed interesting, but the execution was so poor, that I was left with many doubts, many questions. I could make a whole analysis of every situation presented in the book, and tell you why I think that at some points it makes little sense, but I choose not to bother with it. I also have to admit that I purchased the next volume in the series, hoping that the editing would improve; but I have yet to confirm whether this came true or not.

Note: if you're into Twilight and all that "stuff," you will probably enjoy this much more than I did; seeing as (pardon my honesty) the Twilight series is, in general terms, so horrible: poorly written (although better edited than Demon Girl, that's for sure!), and has one of the most absurd, most illogical (there goes that word again!) "love" stories ever written – and let's not mention the bonus! It ruined the concept of vampires entirely. Now, whenever I claim to love vampires since I was little, I am immediately associated with Twilight; and that is, in my opinion, just unbearable, embarrassing, and unacceptable. Thankfully, I am pretty sure that I am not alone in this. And I have to give credit to Penelope Fletcher for trying to keep her vampires closer to the original concept.

I wish that the author had made the relationships and attractions between Rae and her two lovers more credible, as right now it all seems so... superficial and forced. I know she can do better than that. I do like how Rae is a quite strong and proud girl, although she sometimes seems confused and doubtful. Sometimes I don't know what to make of her. She is definitely a better heroine than many I have come across, however. Yet, her two guys... I definitely dislike Breandan; the vampire boy, on the other hand... I am not yet convinced, but at least I like him better. All in all, I really wish that Rae Wilder's world was explored in more detail, and many more things explained. Perhaps this will happen in future installments: I hope so.(less)

The world has changed. Humans are now the endangered species. They mostly live in protected compounds run by ruling sects. The Demons live outside the compounds. Humans have been brought up to fear all demons, to see them as primitive, violent and senseless animals. Demons are anything non~human, be that Fairy, Vampire, goblin or shifter.

Rae, parentless, has been brought up within the compound. She is a disciple, who will one day be a cleric ~ clerics protect humans from demons. However, she has always felt different from everyone around her. She is faster, stronger, feels differently and is fiercely protective of her personal space.

One day changes all of that. She meets Breandan, who tells her what she is and claims her as his own. She discovers that she has powers that she never dreamed of. That she is a different person to whom she thought that she was. The world is a different place to what she believed.

There then begins a triangle which reminded me a little of "Twilight", with Breandan being the one that Rae is falling in love with but Tomas, the vampire, has captured a part of her too. Not only does she lust after him but she also feels drawn to him, despite the fact that they should be enemies.

In addition to the ever present threat from some humans (the clerics) and other demons, there is a political war between fairy factions. These are not cute "Tinkerbell" fairies ~ these will fight to the death, torture, drink sacrificial blood and do anything to secure their desires.

Rae finds herself caught between the boy she is falling in love with and the boy she lusts after. She is caught between warring fairy factions, both of whom wish to claim her as their own. She is caught between the human and demonic world. She already has to deal with the fact that she is not human, that she knows nothing about her family and demonic creatures are fighting over her ~ but then she finds out that she is not 18 years old as she believed but was actually born more than 200 years ago. This girl has a lot to deal with!

Rae is a kick~ ass type of heroine. She is feisty and rash ~ someone who has not learnt to hold her tongue even when it places her in danger. The book was fast paced and action packed. I enjoyed it and have purchased the sequel "Demon Day".(less)

I've had this book on my radar for a while and I finally decided to read it this weekend. There are a couple things I don't like about the book.

1. Spelling and grammatical errors. Also errors with the format of the book. Some paragraphs were spaced out and just looked really weird and confusing. When there should have been a "where" there was a were. Totally different words with completely different meanings.

I had zero expectations going into this book. I picked it for three reasons.
1. Cool cover.
2. It's YA Paranormal/Dystopian
3. It was free. (on my Nook)

I've taken other authors to task over things that could be fixed with better editing so it's only fair I mention it here, but honestly, the issues were few and far between, and it didn't really take away from the experience at all. So with that out of the way, did Demon Girl exceed expectations? Absolutely. This was a really interesting story that mashed together dystopian (which I love) and the supernatural (which I also love).

Our main character is Rae and she is a bit of an odd ball. She's an orphan, in training to be a cleric (aka Demon Hunter) and, oh yeah, she also happens to be a demon. I liked that Fletcher jumped right in with the fact that Rae is a demon. There was no beating around the bush, no "is she or isn't she", just Rae is a demon, the worlds about to go to hell in a hand basket (again), so what is she going to do about it. I really appreciate that. That being said, I would have liked a little more background on some of it. There were a few moments where I stopped and thought "huh?" but all in all it was well done.

So to the story, the Rupture was an event where the balance of power tilted and vampires began eradicating humans who began walling themselves off for protection. Rae lives and trains in one of those enclosures, but ventures outside to run despite the dangers of demons. It's outside where she meets Breandon, a fairy who revels to her that she is a fairy as well. Then her world pretty much spirals out of control as various demons come out of the woodwork and they all want something from her. She's bonded to Breandon, she has some crazy attraction/attachment to Tomas (a vampire) and the various fairy factions all want her on their side as a new war flares up. She not only has to deal with understanding who and what she is, she has to decide what her place will be as the power struggle comes to a head. Another thing I appreciated was that Fletcher didn't shy away from taking out a character in the process of building up the tension. Violence wasn't hinted at, it was shown. Fletcher did a great job at showing the good, the bad and the ugly of what life post-Rupture would be like.

Upon finishing this book, I was overcome with a sense of sadness. I've felt that way before, like when I finished the last Harry Potter book, or when I finished The Hunger Games trilogy. Those books were so good, I was very sad to see them end. However, the sadness I felt when I finished Demon Girl had nothing to do with my love of the book. I'm upset because this book COULD HAVE BEEN great.

I had asked some friends of mine on Twitter what indie books I should give a try since I've been on the search for the best ones. I should not have listened to my niece. She is 14. She liked this book.

You know what? I liked this book too. I had seen the bad reviews on here which didn't deter me [they never do]. It made me want to see just what was the problem with Demon Girl.

I'll be completely honest here: I am not the biggest fan of Paranormal Romance. What a shock, right? So why would I choose a PNR as my second review? Because I am doing my best to review as a reader, rather than a writer who reads. And as a reader, this genre is hothothothothot-hot right now.

So I dove in. Honesty again: I finished this book in one day. Not only because I had set it as my goal for the day (so I could be sure that I had a review), but also because it was a fun read. Rae Wilder is a likeable character, with human flaws and issues, even though she's not quite human.

Although this story is sort of confined to a handful of locals, it is easy to see that the world Penelope Fletcher has built has some depth to show us yet. Now, parts of this story are very typical of this genre; there is a love triangle and a hidden heritage... However, these things become formulaic for a reason. Readers like them. (period) I didn't think these elements were forced and the story moved along comfortably.

On the downside, there were more typos and grammatical errors than I think the average reader would be able to easily forgive (You WILL find typos and errors when you read indie, but I believe it's only an issue when it slows the story). This wasn't a huge problem for me, but I think it should be noted. I am also hoping that the next part of Rae's adventure allows for a little more character building. These are great, likeable characters and I want to know more.

I liked this story and I will definitely read more from Miss Fletcher in the future. Overall, I am giving Demon Girl 4 out of 5 stars. It is available in both ebook and paperback versions.(less)

I found the idea of the story interesting. This book does have some potential IF some very big issues are addressed.
Grammar: If there was ever a book of an edit, this is the one. The grammatical errors, missing words, wrong words (at one point the author writes `right' when it should have been `wrong'), etc. made reading the book so distracting and frustrating that I could barely concentrate on the plot. I don't think I went 2 pages without encountering a mistake.

Character development: Characters are largely undeveloped and have no depth, even the main ones. For example, we get very little in terms of interaction between Rae and her best friend Alex, so the events of the end did not have any effect on me whatsoever. We didn't get to care about Alex at all. We learned little about her, and only through Rae's narration. Basically, that is the problem, we learned everything from the author telling us than from the character development.

Character interaction: I will make allowances for Rae's sudden trusting happy lovey dovey relationship with Breandan but, not with Tomas. We get no frame of reference, rhyme or reason as to why Rae is interacting with the vampire Tomas the way she is. From their first encounter to the second, there is a world of difference. I mean, talk about jumping the gun!

Basically, this is a story with potential if the author decides to review it and expand on the book, fix the errors and get a good editor. Also, am I missing a chapter between 9 and 10? :/ That was a BIG jump in events. (less)

Let me start of by saying that this is one of the worst books I've ever read. I can describe everything I felt about Demon Girl in one word- terrible. I understand that the target audience for this book is teenage girls so there probably is some bias against the story on my part since I am a twenty eight year old guy. Therefore, to be fair with this review, I am going to put on my hypothetical English-teacher-hat and base my review on other more provable flaws with this book as much as I will m...more Let me start of by saying that this is one of the worst books I've ever read. I understand that the target audience for this book is teenage girls so there probably is some bias against the story on my part since I am a twenty eight year old guy. Therefore, to be fair with this review, I am going to put on my hypothetical English-teacher-hat and base my review on other more provable flaws with this book as much as I will my opinion of the plot to better explain why I believe this is such a horrible book.

1. Writing style- clearly nobody edited this nonsense because the whole time I was reading it I kept tripping over misspelled words, words that were repeated and (in a couple cases)sentence fragments. I don't consider myself to be the grammar and spelling police when it comes to novels (a few mistakes here and there are forgivable), however the overabundance of errors made this difficult to read in some places. I shouldn't have to reread a sentence a couple times to figure out what the author meant. The sentence fragments were unbearable but at least there were only a couple. The whole time I read this, I wanted to grab a red pen and start correcting everything and then write an "F" on the cover with a note to see me after class.

2. Plot- I noticed a problem with this book that a lot of high school students I have worked with in the past have had- the story moves so fast it leaves out too much detail and character development. The main character is outside and then a handful of pages later here comes a big life altering fact she must change her life around (i.e, not being human in this case) and then a few pages beyond that more overly rushed action. This could have been much better if the author had slowed down, developed ideas further and went more into detail with characters.

3. Diction that didn't quite fit- Maybe it's just me but the way the characters spoke didn't seem right. One second they are talking normal and the next you would think they were at a bar or something. Just because one has artistic licence to use curse words doesn't mean they should be thrown awkwardly into conversations just because they can.

4. Lack of originality- If there was a way to breed Terry Brooks' Shanara series with the Twilight Saga, then this would probably be the result. Like the Shanara books, the story takes place in a post-cataclysmic future in which magic and fantasy creatures have returned. Like the Twilight Saga, the main character is a boy crazy teenager who is caught in a love triangle with super-natural guys. Overall, I found the story to be a miserable attempt to milk the popularity of the fantasy genre.

Well, there you have it. In my own defense, I did give it one star for effort. Perhaps if her writing style becomes more refined and her ideas more original, Penelope Fletcher will present the world with something worth reading. For now we're stuck with this garbage and I find myself longing to get the hours of my life I wasted on this book back.
