Suosittuihin Darren Shanin tarina -romaaneihin perustuva 12-osainen sarjakuva. Hän ohjailee ajatusten voimalla myrkkyhämähäkkiään, Madame Octaa - eik ...more

I haven't read the manga yet that's why i'm looking into it, but I will tell you Iv'e read the entire series of novels and they are Amazing it's griping, full of plot twists, especially the ending is just wow! It will make you feel different emotions. Plus there is alot of comedy in it! This series has literally made me the reader I am today! Believe me it's worth it! Even if there is 12 books in the series I would check it out from the library and finish it in one day! (less)

It's a decent start, but I had trouble staying interested. There was a lot of set up in this volume and it wasn't until the last chapter (after all the "starting to turn into a vampire" stuff, really). I'll give the next volume a shot and see if I like the next one better.

I've never read the actual novel this is based on, so this is totally new to me.

Relive the first novel in the most action-packed, fast-paced thriller of a series ever to rule the human and vampire world with this newly published CIRQUE DU FREAK manga.

The story surrounds Darren Shan, the infamous spider lover. On his way home one night he is given a flyer to a circus. Not just any other regular circus, however - this is the circus of freaks. Accompanied by his friend, Steve, Darren witnesses the most peculi

I just finish reading the book and it is so good but ends with a cliff hanger I HATE that, your only able to know that by reading the next book in the series that's if you have it. Back to the book, in the book we revolve around the main character Darren, Darren's friend Steve, a circus, and a vampire that's a circus performer.

*SPOILER ALERT* Darren turns in to a 1/2 vampire just to save his friend Steve, Steve was the one who wanted to be a vampire. Now, Darren traded his whole life just to sa

In this book, we have Darren Shan, the protagonist. He really likes spiders. He's friends with Steve. One day, Darren learns about a freak show called Cirque Du Freak, and they plan to go. However, when Steve gets tickets, he only gets half the tickets they need. Darren ended up getting the second ticket, Steve getting the first, and they go. Darren sits, until finally, the act with a spider comes on. He really enjoyed it. Because of this, he tried to take the spider, and does, but accidentally ...more

Christ…this was a truly irritating book. I really do not enjoy reading manga comics. The layout for this book drove me nuts—the book is set up backwards and upside down and anything else I cannot think of right now that is designed to throw you off. In spite of an Introduction and a textual Chapter 1 at the back of the book, the actual story begins at the back of the book and is meant to be read completely backward from the right page’s bottom right corner and backward. Naturally, I carried on f ...more

i really liked this manga because it is very interesting how a boy's life change just because a spider. Cirque du Freak is a manga and book about a boy named Darren Shan and how his life changed because he made a bad mistake. This was one of my favourite books because of the plot and the characters. I really recommend this book to anyone who enjoys adventure and action. I have never understood popularity of Manga. I tried reading a few series, but they never caught my attention. This series, however, did just the opposite. I started this and could not put it down. Here you have a young man that is good of heart and gives his soul over to another to save a friend. I am really excited about continuing the series. I am interested in the battle between Darren and Steve. The friend that he saved, now wants to kill him.
Cirque Du Freak is book 1 in the series.

This brought back everything and the time when I started reading this series 10 years ago. I enjoyed the manga and reading about Darren Shan, Steve and Mr. Crepsley.

I couldn't find the book so I decided to read the manga. It wasn't the best one I have read and the art wasn't that spectacular either, but the story was good. I can't wait to read the books!

I read these books in high school and I still love them just as much. I enjoyed the movie too, even though it didn't get the best reviews.

I really like this book because i like how the story plot was and there was so many times that I thought the character would do but he won't and some parts that I thought the character would not do but he did. Another I why I really like this book is because I really like horror book and this is one of them but it's not scary. Another reason why I like it is because there are so much twists i this book and just from one act it could change a boy's whole life.

Cirque Du Freak is a manga about a average boys Darren Shan and Steve Leonard. They go to a circus called Cirque Du Freak the Circus of Freaks where Steve chose to become a vampire. The head of the circus makes Darren become a vampire. I thought the book was okay but it was a little weird for me.

Darren and Steve are best friends, they pretty much do everything together and they love a lot of the same things, but most importantly...spiders. One night a mysterious man hands Darren a flyer for an event called, "Cirque Du Freak" aka The Circus of Freaks, which intrigues him, Steve and two of their other friends. Only 2 tickets available, so Darren and Steve are the ones who end up going. This Circus is unlike any other, but the real attraction, for the boys, especially Darren, is Madam Octa ...more

Manga was very hard for me to get use to. The reading style is from back to front, right to left, as Japanese do it. It did kind of make me feel like part of a secret society of people who “get it” though so I can see the appeal to teens. I would have loved that feeling as a kid. The anime community has really grown the last few years and this is a new niche in this community. The are in this book is very Japanese comic character looking. The Cover is in color, but the inside is black and white. ...more

The Vampire’s Assistant

A book called “The Vampire’s Assistant” created by Darren Shan, is about a young boy named Darren Shan who becomes a vampire’s assistant (as you can see the protagonist’s name is the same as the creator’s). The story tells of a young energetic boy who one night gets a flyer from a strange, mysterious man. The next day he shows the flyer he received to his friends Steve Leopard and others, bruiting to them about the premiere of an odd ball circus call “cirque du freak.” Dar
Summary: This manga retelling of the popular kids' horror series follows the original plot: Darren and his friend Steve find themselves at a real freak show (the wolfman bites someone's arm off). Steve puts them in danger by revealing his knowledge that the ringleader is a vampire, and Darren compounds the problem by stealing the vampire's unique and deadly giant spider.

Plot: When I read the first novel in the Cirque du Freak series, I didn't care for it because so much of it was just descriptio

1. My favourite character is Darren Shan, he is also the main character of the book. I find Darren Shan interesting because he goes through a massive change in life from being a normal ordinary boy with a normal happy family to a half vampire and as a result he had to fake his death. As he doesn’t age as he naturally should, he is stuck as a child and he was too dangerous to be around his family. As he goes through changes he develops new abilities like running as fast as the wind and is much st ...more

I have to say, the graphic novel was almost as good as the actual book. I borrowed this from the library out of my love for the first one - and I was very curious to see how I would like the graphic novel! The artist did an amazing job at illustrating - seriously! It was like the character's emotions were leaping off the page at you!

I thought the way that all the characters were drawn was perfect, exactly how I imagined them. Even if you had not read the book, you easily could have followed the

Ok, first of all this book was amazing!! I read the actual book from cirque du freak and ignored it afterwards, I'm only 12 and found it a little... too dark i should say. I liked the story line but it seemed a little volgure in some of the descriptions. When I saw the manga version in my school library my friend said to take a shot at it. I DO NOT regret it. I took a shot and it hit HARD! The pictures were amazing! I love to draw anime so i found it really good! I like it because it actually se ...more

When best friends Darren Shan and Steve Leopard learn about Cirque du Freak, a visiting circus that promises to be full of monsters, they are ecstatic. Darren is most excited to see the act with the performing spider, while Steve really wants to see… well, all of it. He loves monsters so much, he says he wants to be one. Figuring out how to get to the circus without their parents and teachers knowing is tricky, but, unbeknownst to Darren, Steve’s plan for the night might make leaving the darknes ...more

"Mi nombre es Darren Shan. Y me encantan... las arañas. ¿Crees que es extraño? Parece ser que la única persona que me entiende es mi mejor amigo, Steve. Todos los demás siempre se asustan, pero no importa, ya que no hay nadie más con quien prefiera pasar el tiempo. Tal vez fue el destino lo que nos llevo a ese circo. Si, tal vez...

Darren Shan's an ordinary schoolboy, until he and his best friend Steve get tickets to the Cirque Du Freak, a bizarre freak show featuring such arcane performers as Hans Hands, Gertha Teeth, the Wolf Man and Rhamus Twobellies. In the midst of the ghoulish excitement, true terror raises its head when Steve recognises that one of the performers -- Mr Crepsley -- is in fact a vampire!

Steve remains after the show finishes, to confront the vampire -- but his motives are anything but ordinary! In the
