"Make Mine a Bad Boy" is the second installment in the Deep in the Heart of Texas series by Katie Lane. I was plesently surprised with this book. When I recived this novel, I thought I would have a hard time reading it all the way through..I guess I judged the book by it's cover and title. I'm now glad I didn't. This novel is full of charm and southren whit, right after I finished (only a few hours after starting it I might add) I was looking for how more novels are in...more

Make Mine a Bad Boy is book two in the A Deep Heart of Texas series by Katie Lane, and I have to say with each book this series gets better. I originally started out reading book one and two so I could read and review book three. I am so glad I got my hands on this series!! They are an absolute delight. I am a born and raised Louisiana gal, but have spent a lot of my time over the border in Texas with family. I have to say Katie captured a Texas town almos...more

As soon as I finished book #1 in this series (Going Cowboy Crazy), I went immediately to my stash of books from the 2011 RWA National Conference to find book #2.

Hope Scroggs--the town of Bramble sweetheart, past homecoming queen, head high school cheerleader, aspiring Hollywood actress waiting to be discovered--comes home to Bramble shocked to find the town planning her wedding to high school sweetheart, Slate Calhoun, a man she hasn't seen in five years, nor talked to in the past year. MAKE MINE A BAD BOY by Katie Lane is another exciting western contemporary romance set in present day Bramble,Texas. The second in the " A DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS NOVEL",but can be read as a stand alone, although most of the characters appear in Book One "Going Cowboy Crazy".This is an easy to follow story of romance, love, twins, sweet sensuality, wit and community involvement. In this story Hope,Faith's twin, finds herself back home after going off to Hollywood to become a star, her best friend Slat...more

The story takes place in Bramble, Texas; a small town where everyone knows your name, and your business. Hope is the town’s sweetheart, just back in town after living in Hollywood trying to make it big for the past few years. Colt, the town’s troublemaker, is also recently back in town, supposedly just released from prison.

Before Hollywood and prison, Colt grew up constantly teasing and harassing Hope, playing all sorts of mean pranks on her, like hanging her bra from a flagpole. Because of that...more

My Review:
Colt's character made this book for me. There's a certain hidden vulnerability to his character that just melted my heart. Hope and Colt both grew up in the same depressing trailer-park of Bramble, TX. But while Hope became the town sweetheart, Colt became the town bad-boy. That doesn't change the fact that the sexual chemistry has always sizzled between them. Normally they deal with it by sniping at each other, but for a few en...more

After having read and thoroughly enjoyed Lane's first book in this series, I was really looking forward to Hope's story. Unfortunately it just didn't pan out as well. While it is filled with all the small town wackiness and fun that inhabited the first, what promised to continue in the feisty town sweetheart and the resident bad boy, disintegrated into two people who spent most of the book ridiculing and calling each other nasty names then running away at each sign of trouble. It is hard to symp...more

Now I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first.Like I said in my first review I wasnt a big fan of Hope but I loved Colt. Her attitude bothered me and I couldn’t see why people let her get away with things the way they do because I really wanted to slap her off the face off the earth. I did grow to like Hope towards the end of the book.

I absolutely loved Colt!! Being the town bad boy wasn't easy but he always made it through it. I gave him a lot of correct. The whole bad boy thing just stuck...more

Another exciting romance from new author Katie Lane set in the heart of Texas!

After five years in L.A. trying to make it as an actress, Hope finally returns home, and to her back up plan – marrying her childhood sweetheart and town hero, Slate Calhoun. When she gets there though, she not only finds a twin sister that she didn’t know about, but the man she planned on marrying falling in love with her instead! Now she has to bury her jealousy and crushed dreams and attend their happy wedding. But...more

I really loved this story. I was taken with Colt from the beginning. You could tell that he was struggling from the start with what he wanted and how to get it. But no one was struggling more than Hope. I loved her character, a superstar in the eyes of her hometown but nothing more than a waitress in Hollywood. She wanted to become somebody when she truly was all along. I knew from the start this was going to be a great book as you watched these two characters repel it each other. You just wante...more

Make Mine a Bad Boy picks up where Going Cowboy Crazy left off, only from the point of view of the other twin sister, Hope Scroggs. Hope is very different from her sister—sassy, outspoken, yet held back by her role as the town sweetheart. Colt Lomax is the boy from the trailer park now grown up and trying to shed all reminders from his poor childhood. Yet he can't seem to shake Hope. I really enjoyed the antagonism between Hope and Colt that of course sparked undeniable chemistry. Hmm. Makes me...more

This humorous story would be great as a stand alone story but is a perfect second book in the Deep in the Heart of Texas series. I liked this book just as much as the first book in the series.

Some of the things I loved about Make Mine a Bad Boy

1. The pacing of the story was fast. I read this book in one sitting. (The next day after reading book 1)
2. The emotions of the characters were believable. Not once did I think something was off or they reacted in a way that most people wouldn’t.
3. As I r...more

This book is a follow on from book two and you should really read the first. Hope Scroggs (I know, what a horrible name!) is having some trouble. Things are definitely not going as she hoped when she took off to become an actress in Hollywood. Her pretend boyfriend has married her long lost twin sister, her dreams of becoming famous led to a stint in a strip club and she can’t seem to forget her one night of sin with the town bad boy. Colt Lomax has always been the outcast of Bramble. Destined t...more

I didn’t enjoy MAKE MINE A BAD BOY as much as I liked GOING COWBOY CRAZY. The main reason was Hope. Her attitude bothered me and I couldn’t see why people let her get away with things the way they do. I did like Hope more by the end of the book, but it took me awhile. On the other hand, I absolutely loved Colt. Just like GOING COWBOY CRAZY the dialog is snappy and full of funny moments. The town plays just as an important part in MAKE MINE A COWBOY. I really enjoyed getting to know the “other” t...more

This story is awesome! It has humor, romance and a whole lot of great twists and turns to the plot. Make mine a bad boy takes place in Bramble, Texas and it's small town America that you'll absolutely fall in love with. The characters all have their little eccentricities and quirks that make them totally believable. This tale has twins who never knew the other existed, mistaken identity, bad boy makes good, town's all American sweetheart captures bad boy's heart and faulty condoms. This is a fun...more

Make Mine a Bad Boy starts right where Going Cowboy Crazy leaves us. Hope “Hog” Scroggs returns to her small home town Bramble Texas after a not so impressive start to her acting career to marry her childhood boyfriend, only to find out he’s marrying her twin sister Faith Aldridge who she didn’t know existed.

I didn’t like Hope much in Going Cowboy Crazy, she seemed like a spoiled conniving person, that if she didn’t get her way you’d be sorry, but I figured since this was her book I’d give her a...more

Make Mine a Bad Boy is the second book in this series by Katie Lane and it entices the heartstrings just like the first book! I could not wait to pick up the second book and find out what comes of the characters in the little town of Bramble. I was intrigued to find out the story of Hope, even if she was not my favorite character from “Going Cowboy Crazy.” I could see certain character traits in Hope that reminded me of myself on certain days. This book did not disappoint!

Make Mine a Bad Boy is the 2nd book in the Deep in the Heart of Texas series by Katie Lane. I really wasn’t too gung ho about reading this book. The first book in the series was just okay for me, so I didn’t have high hopes for this one. Boy, was I wrong. I really, really enjoyed it.

Hope Scroggs is left not knowing what to do with her life. She is the small town princess that everyone loves. After graduation she was practically carried to the county line on a float, so she could run off to Cali...more

I did not like this one as much as the first book.
Hope was kind of a whiny brat. Throughout most of the story, she was grumpy and resentful of her newly found/met twin sister for 'messing up her life' and 'taking her man.' That got old really quick. Especially, as she was not in love with Slate and knew he wasn't in love with her - - ever!
I actually felt sorry for Colt and am not sure why he kept coming back for more.
Then the whole 'I never liked her/him that way' misunderstanding going on throu...more

Author Katie Lane's interest in romance began in the backseat of a '65 Mustang. She's now married to the owner of said Mustang and has two grown daughters. She resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She enjoys golf, motorcycles, and traveling in her spare time. Her other title, Going Cowboy Crazy, preceded this book.

The bright lights of California did not shine so brightly on Hope Scroggs, so after sowing her wild oats, she returns to Bramble, Texas, to settle down. Finally ready to get hitched, sh...more

I really enjoyed this book. This is a new to me author who will be on my list of books to buy in the future.

Make Mine a Bad Boy is the second book in the Deep in the Heart of Texas series and it was a wonderful romance. I love small town romance stories, they are filled with quirky and fun characters and when the town actually becomes part of the story, it makes it all the better. Brambel Texas is just that kind of place.

This is Hope's story, which picks up at the wedding of her long lost twin s...more

Katie Lane's interest in romance was sparked in high school in the backseat of a '65 mustang-okay, so maybe it wasn't romance as much as raging teenage hormones. Still, coupled with a wild imagination, those make-out sessions inspired many a steamy storyline along with a strong belief that true love does prevail. Katie lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico with the owner of that mustang and would love...more
