Not to mention the fact that no one I knew had ever heard of the guy's novel before...

Now, pretty much everyone I speak to has heard of - if not read - the Vampire Academy series. The first two thirds of Half-Blood is exactly the same as the first in the VA series, I'm not even exaggerating. There are some scenes where if you changed "Alex" to "Rose" and "Aiden" to "Dimitri" then you would have a difficult time guessing which book is which. In each novel, the protagonist has been away from their centre of training (St Vladimir's and The Covenant) for a long period of time. When they return, they are admitted for a trial period in which they must attend training by professional (and super sexy) hunters. In the training rooms, they fight the older and forbidden pros and get their arses handed to them repeatedly... then slowly they get better, stronger, and things start to get just a little too hot and sweaty between them and their trainers.

Oh, and another in-your-face similarity? There are pures and half-bloods, the former look down on the latter, pures would never stoop so low as to start a relationship with a half-blood, etc, etc. Alex, like Rose, is a half-blood. The only big difference is that Aiden, unlike Dimitri, is a pure. So the relationship in this novel is even more forbidden than the one in Vampire Academy. But I was just astounded by how many characters mirrored the ones in VA, this wasn't an accident, it simply couldn't be.

Two stars on goodreads means "it was ok" and, trust me, this very nearly got one star because plagiarism is never ok. But there was a big improvement in the last third that gave me the feeling that the second book in this series - Pure - would leave the VA books alone and show some originality. Things started to branch off from the obviously stolen idea and take their own shape; like the introduction of Apollyon (a half-blood who is granted super powers in order to keep pures in check, but only one can exist at any given time) and some other interesting discoveries that I can't talk about without giving away huge spoilers.

Even though Half-Blood is a well-written, dark and sexy novel, I couldn't help but be turned off when I discovered that the author had taken someone else's idea. Perhaps I'd have felt differently if I hadn't just read Vampire Academy in 2011? I don't know, but I'm not particularly interested in reading Pure right now.

This book is amazing! Fans of VAMPIRE ACADEMY will love it. The main character, Alex, has a wonderfully edgy, sarcastic voice, and she's simultaneously strong and vulnerable. I pulled this query out of the slush pile and read the manuscript in a day--I couldn't put it down! Put this on your "to-read" list; you won't be disappointed!

Where do I even begin by writing this review? Well……Half-Blood left me utterly speechless. It completely blew me away and it’s definitely one of my favourite reads so far this year.

Half-Blood follows the life of Alex; a 17 year old Half-Blood who has just returned to the covenant after her mother was murdered by Damions. After missing nearly three years of training, Alex is thrown back into life and starts training to become Sentinels. She is being trained by Aiden, a gorgeous pure blood. Alex knows that relationships between Half-Blood’s and Pure’s are forbidden but there is an undeniable attraction between them. As she tries to fight off her feelings for Aiden, a person from the past comes back to haunt her…..one that she thought was dead but with this person stopping at nothing to get to her, it can only lead to one possible end…..one with a deadly confrontation.

Can I just say wow, wow and wow? Yeah, I loved this book that much, that if I could rate it 10 out of 10, I would. Jennifer L. Armentrout has created a completely amazing book that truly shows off her talents as a writer. This book has everything. It’s full of suspense, action, danger and romance. It’s also captivating, mind-blowing, surprising, compelling and thrilling. The twists and turns through-out this book kept me on my toes and I honestly didn’t know what was coming next. I so have to admit that this book did remind me of Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead BUT……and please don’t hate me for this…….Half-Blood was so much better!!

The Greek Mythology that was used within the story was unique and fresh and not once did I feel lost in the story. Jennifer manages to introduce a completely new world to us that is easily imaginable and felt so feel. Her characters were well developed, strong and completely independent. Our heroine Alex is smart, brave and funny. I love how determined she is and doesn’t let anything stand in her way. Then we have Aiden….*sigh* I could honestly sit and write about Aiden ALL DAY! He’s amazing! Totally stubborn but so gorgeous, he’s enough to make any girls heart melt. Some of the scenes that Aiden and Alex share are so touching and loveable that you’re truly rooting for them as couple. I’m absolutely dying to know where the author takes their relationship; especially with their relationship being forbidden.

The secondary characters were second to none. Seth and Caleb are all completely unique in their own way. I definitely think Jennifer has thrown in a curve ball with the connection between Alex and Seth and again, it’s left me wanting more. I’m left imagining the outcome of the series and I know; only Jennifer has those answers at the moment but I will be definitely waiting impatiently until the next book is released. I find myself imagining the worst possible outcome so I won’t be disappointed but, I honestly know I won’t be because if Pure is anything like Half-Blood, I know I be amazing.

Overall, Jennifer has created a fantastic new series. One which is full of excitement and action and one, everyone is going to love. A forbidden romance that leaves you praying for a happy ending but also leaving you will a little bit of hope; Hope that everything will work out in the end even though it’s only the beginning. I guess only time will tell!

Relationships between Pures and Half-Bloods are strictly forbidden. Alex is a half-blood, try guessing what Aiden is! If they end up together and someone finds out, nothing will happen to Aiden because he’s a Pure, but Alex will be forced into slavery and will probably have to be a servant in her stepfather’s (who also happens to be a very powerful politician) house.

I think this book was some sort of an experiment: how much can an author take from another author and avoid being sued for plagiarism?! Jennifer Armentrout crossed the line considerably if you ask me. It’s true that we are used to YA paranormal literature being formulaic, but that’s not what this is about. Armentrout wasn’t just following the usual formula - more than half of this book is flat-out stolen. Far too many characters and situations were just copied from the Vampire Academy series to Half-Blood for it to be an accident. I can't help but wonder what this woman was thinking. She had too know how obvious it'll be.

Under normal circumstances, Half-Blood would have been a solid 4-star book for me. The characters are interesting enough, the world is well built, the plot is compelling and the writing itself isn’t half bad. But I can’t bring myself to reward Armentrout’s actions. If I do, if we all do, where will it end?

There are some differences between Half-Blood and Vampire Academy, especially in the second half. But by the time I reached those parts, I was already going back and forth from depressed to angry and I just couldn’t find it within myself to care.

Vampire Academy fans should read this out of sheer curiosity. I recommend borrowing it from the library or something because buying it means encouraging other ~~thieves~~ authors to do the same. I really don’t want to see The Panthers of Hope Falls on some shelf next year.(less)

After three years in hiding with her pure-blood mother, 17-year-old Alexandria Andros is finally back with the Covenant, a place where pure-bloods, the children of Hematoi (who are descendants of demigods), and half-bloods, the offspring of mortals and Hematoi, live away from the mortal world. It's also where some are trained as Sentinels and Guards whose purpose is to kill daimons and protect pures. Halfs also have a chance of becoming docile servants to pures if they aren't cut out for Sentinel duty or if they break the rules. As a half-blood who broke the rules by running away with her mother and living in the mortal world, Alex chances of becoming a servant are high. To gain back the trust of the leaders she has to prove her loyalty and that she has what it takes to become a Sentinel by catching up with the three years of training she missed before the end of the summer. But following the rules is easier said than done, especially when Alex starts to fall for a pure and finds out the real reason her mother took her away from the Covenant.

First, I have to quickly mention the setting. There are Covenants located around the country like Tennessee and New York, but this particular Covenant is located on an island off the coast of North Carolina. Being on an island sounds awesome, and I like that the author chose a fitting name for it: Deity Island. And I have to admit that I'm pretty bias to anything North Carolina, so of course I'm happy that it's located there!

Now on to the characters. Alex was just awesome! She's funny and kickass. Strong, yet vulnerable. Her interactions with the rest of the characters, like her best friend Caleb and another fellow half-blood Seth, were great. Those characters were very likable as well, and I loved that they were all important to the story. Another character I really liked was Aiden St. Delphi. He's the pure-blood who volunteered to train Alex, and if you've read Daimon, he's actually the 'older guy' Alex use to have a crush on. I knew there was a chance I would swoon over him, but I didn't realize just how much! Aiden's such a sweet and protective and patient and nice (and I could go on!) guy, and I completely understand why Alex would fall for him, even while knowing a relationship between a pure-blood and half-blood is forbidden. I absolutely loved their moments together, and it makes me so happy when I really like the main character and the lead male character. I cannot wait to read more of their interactions!

I think this is my first experience reading a YA paranormal book where the characters are descendants of gods. I'm impressed with how the author incorporated Greek Mythology into the story, and I have a feeling Half-Blood will stand out among the other YA books with Greek Mythology released recently. I've already mentioned how much I love the characters, the relationships and the romance, and I think another aspect readers will enjoy is the action. Half-Blood is filled with it! It was never boring. There are plenty of scenes where Aiden is training Alex, and I loved that Aiden did not go easy on her. There are also parts with the daimons, which were pure-bloods who changed into dangerous creatures after drinking the aether, a pure's esscene, from another pure. They're powerful and ruthless, and I never knew what to expect from them. Another was finding out the reason Alex's mother took her away from the Covenant; it was a bit surprising, and I really want to know how Alex will continue to deal with this sudden revelation and what the outcome will be.

When I finished Half-Blood, all I wanted was more! I was satisfied with everything. The author is a great storyteller, and I'm extremely excited for the second book Pure! It's being released in less than a year, but I wish it was out already. I look forward to finding out what happens next with Alex and the rest of the characters and to learn more about their world. If you're a YA paranormal fan, you don't want to miss out! Definitely check out this series!(less)

Wowieeeee. I was instantly hooked by this book when I read the synopsis and saw the gorgeous purple cover, but that's nothing compared to what's actually inside the book. Jennifer Armentrout creates a butt-kicking, crime-fighting, people-protecting tough female protagonist that you just can't help not liking. One of my top favorite female main characters ever? Heck, yes. And I don't even want to go on about Aiden, because I don't know if I'll ever be able to stop. Two words: He's. Amazing. (Or is that three words, because the apostrophe takes the place of a letter...?) Poor Jace and Prince Ash. This guy can give them a run for their money.

I loved this book because while it had quite a few romantic parts, it fits and is written in a really enjoyable way. Armentrout creates a romance that seems completely real and not at all like that "soul-mate" stuff we get a lot. Alex and Aiden start off as really good friends, and it always melts my heart when Aiden says "Do you trust me?"

We have also have some pretty great supporting characters. Caleb is such a funny, supportive guy that is a good best friend. Lucky Alex gets two great guys in her life. And of course, every organization needs their queen bee, who in this case is Lea, a total b with an itch with stunning looks and a big head (figuratively speaking). While I felt like slapping her sometimes, she's not a complete terrorist all the time. I guess if you lose some really important people that happens to you. Marcus doesn't seem like an important character in the novel, and while he isn't actually in the book all the time, he kind of gets onto my good side in the end. I can't tell you how, though.

I was not disappointed at all from the beginning to the end. This book has everything: the scary monsters, the dangerous quests, the annoying family members, the steamy scenes... I just couldn't get enough of it. Talk about frustrating when I reached the end. I really hope Pure comes out soon, because I don't know how much longer I can hold onto my sanity. Guys, read this book. It's worth it. (less)

Luckily, I was given an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. Well, I'm in love with Aiden St. Delphi and I have a feeling Seth is going to be a close runner up.... How is that for honesty? Yes, I can be a bit fickle when it comes to my book crushes but I know I'm not the only one.

Alex, short for Alexandria "Defender of Man," is a character I immensely love. She's so much fun to read. Aiden is the guy I know will win hearts in a millisecond. He has a background that has me grasping for more and a calm-quiet exterior that made me want to see what will get him going. Seth is quite the character as well. He's more then meets the eye and the promise of more to come has me squirming in my computer chair. Caleb is the world bestest friend and quite the man himself. Not a love interest mind you but Alex has enough on her plate. Alex and Caleb and their bff relationship is sweet to the core and they mesh so well together. I enjoy the female-male attitudes playing off one another. It helps to deepen the plot.

The only thing that strikes me and I must say this because I know it'll be on the minds of every avid reader. Half-Blood is reminiscent of the Vampire Academy series. In fact, after I read the synopsis months ago I immediately thought of Rose. However, as I read on I came to the conclusion that Half-Blood holds its own in every shape and form. The characters are alive and well in my mind and they can be no one else and no one else can be them.

All in all, Where is book two, Pure? I want to read it now, lol. *^_^* Very entertaining to the very core of me.

I can not say it enough---I LOVE a story from the guy's POV!!! It is so much more powerful than from the girls. As a girl myself, I know how we think-feel-want. I am baffled! I have been putting this review off for a week now, and I still have no idea where to even start with this one guys I mean, it is purely sublime. If there was ever a book that has left me so lost for words it is Half Blood by Jennifer Armentrout. This is a book you will finish, and weeks later still be mind blown about, just trying to think of the words to use for how much you loved it, and how much it captivated you. This is a book that will paralyze you, and won't let you go till the very last page, and once it's finished all you want is to be sucked back in.

I obviously loved this book.

Half-Blood takes on a whole new take in the mythology world, where certain groups of people are descended from Gods, there are the Pure-Bloods who have special God like powers, and then there are the Half-Bloods, who don't. A Half Blood is exactly what Alex is, and with her luck of course Aiden the boy she can't stop thinking about is a Pure- Blood, this wouldn't be a problem, if it weren't for Pure and Half relationships being absolutely forbidden in the Covenant.

Alex has been gone from her life at the Covenant for years, but after one horrific night, she is thrown back into the life she never thought she would see again. Things are happening at the Covenant, things that shouldn't be happening. As more and more things keep piling up, Alex will be forced to confront things she never would of thought of in her worst nightmares..

I find myself drawn to seriously every aspect of this story, Alex and her kick-ass snarky personality, Aiden and his mysterious, protective, and romantic personality, Seth and his arrogant yet sexy personality, Caleb and his humor, the mythology, the romance, the action, this book had it all. Perfect story, with perfect characters.

I think my favorite part of this story was Alex, and Aiden. There romance is so real, Jennifer did an amazing job at really capturing there love for each other, which is so rare now a days I feel. Most books are "oh hey I see you, I love you and thats it" no explanation, no realistic-ness whats so ever. With Alex and Aiden, you can't help but root for them from the very start.

For me, it's not even just them as a romance pair that I love, but them individually. You can't help , but respect Alex for speaking her mind and standing up for herself no matter who she is telling off, and Aiden, you can't help, but well drool over him. I am sorry, but seriously this guy is perfet. He has taken a seat right next to Puck from the Iron Fey series in my "If I could live in my imagination this guy would be my soulmate" list. Jennifer has truly put together an amazing pair, and all I am thinking right now is how much I need the next book Pure so I can see how Alex and Aidens love continues to unfold.

This is a story of love, lost, suspense, action, romance, mystery, thrill, humor, and everything you could imagined tied up into one incredible story.

Before you leave on my final note, I want to tell you that this review ^^ is awful. This book deserves so much more praise then I can even express, just know, that you should buy it, the day it comes out on October 18th, this is a story that is going to go down Y.A book history.(less)

HALF-BLOOD was definitely the best mythology YA book I have read this year. I love mythology and I just loved so many things about this book that it kept me reading til the very end.

One problem I had with HALF-BLOOD being like Vampire Academy was that is was too much like it. I really never ever try to compare book series, but I felt like so many things from the first couple of chapters was the exact thing that happened in Vampire Academy and it bothered me a bit.

Alex is our heroine of this amazing new series and to be honest me and her didn't click. Most of the time I thought she was a spoiled little brat to the point where I got the impression that she felt that she was better than everyone else in the sense of her training/fighting skills. I thought her decision making skills were dumb though, but hey no ones perfect. Though I ended up warming up to her a little bit towards the second half of the book.

And finally my favorite part of the book, the love interests. Aiden is amazing. He's the love interest you know the heroine will probably end up with. I loved him. He is sweet, protective, strong, and has that "I'm serious" look going for him all the time. But Alex and Aiden's love is forbidden. And then there's Seth. Total bad boy and if you know me you know I love my bad boys. I love Seth. Okay. I love them both. Wait. I know how to solve this. Alex can have Aiden and I can have Seth. Win-Win. But I am really seriously a bit torn between the two.

I think the first book in the Covenant Series was an excellent start to the series and I am really looking forward to more. Oh, and yes. I am not going to reveal any of the precious contents of the book because they're top secret and you're going to have to read to find out. There were many things that I found shocking and that kept me at the edge of my seat and I can't wait to read more.

Okay, a few people has asked me why I only gave 1 cheap star to this book that seems to be a favorite of so many. So, I decided to explain how I feel towards this book with the following points.

But first, I am sorry in advance if I offend a fan of this series. I know it hurts when someone talks crap about a book you love and I know this book has tones of fans but SORRY!

So, I decided to explain how I feel towards this book with the following points.

But first, I am sorry in advance if I offend a fan of this series. I know it hurts when someone talks crap about a book you love and I know this book has tones of fans but SORRY!

So here I go!

1. I got almost halfway through the book. I read like 45% of it and I couldn't keep reading. So yes, I didnt' finish it. It's not that is a bad book, or that the writing sucked (my own writing actually sucks big time so I never judge about that aspect) but I think is pretty much a big copy of Vampire Academy.
I know, WOW! big heavy words, but if you read Vampire Academy then you'll immediately notice the striking similarities between both books. And by striking similarities I mean general plot, characters, species, romance,even dialogues! I remember Aiden told something about the daggers to Alex (Aiden is training Alex under pretty much the same circumstances as Dimitri is training Rose) something like "you haven't earned the right to use one of those" (He said this when Alex wanted to grab one of the dagger) Well, something very similar happened in Vampire Academy) and the similarities continue and are endless! (and notice that I didn't even finished the book. I just got halfway through it and that was enough for me to feel like I was reading a complete Vampire Academy rip-off. Hopefully thing changed by the end of the book and things turned out to be Armentrout's own ideas (I really hoped that). However, I have been talking with a few friends and it happens that, according to them, that's not the case. (that is the opinion from people who did finish the book, just so you know)

2. I feel like the author tried to re-write Vampire Academy on her own way (but not really, she just changed the names and places) and then oops! it happened she sold it and got published. I still wonder, how that even happened? O_o?? I knew there were similarities between VA and this book but... aren't they too many? hmmmmmm...

3. I cannot like a book I felt uncomfortable reading and for respect to Richelle Mead, I coudln't keep turning this book's pages without feeling like crap for her. And that's why I willingly stopped reading this book. Thanks LORD I didnt buy it but borrowed it from a friend! if not, I would have burned it already.

I totally understand when books (or whatever) have similarities. That's totally fine. Originality is impossible and everything comes from something else. That's what sources and inspiration are for. But well... this is not the case.

There you have it my dear fellow readers. You may actually enjoy this book if you have never read Vampire Academy. Otherwise, it may feel repetitive, predictable and even offensive! (it was in my case)

I enjoyed this. I reread this review just now and it seems like I didn't, but it was good.

Everybody already pointed out it's a lot like the Vampire Academy series, and I agree, but I couldn't help looking forward to the next chance I had time to read a few chapters. And this book has a Seth! Yay! (for those who don't know me, I have a thing for Seths, blame Mortensen from the Georgina Kincaid books for turning my fondness into blind obsession for anybody who comes along and introduces himself as...more I enjoyed this. Although it's similar to VA, it didn't bother me most of the time. We all know Rose Hathaway has a short fuse, but Alex doesn't seem to have one, she just explodes whenever she feels like it. I did feel like clocking her every now and then. Unfortunately that wouldn't have gotten me far.

I've been out of the YA loop for a year or so now, but I really love how these books finally seem to kick the Twilight-standards in the face and actually acknowledge that teenagers think about sex and, even better, actually seem to be getting some as well. I was beginning to feel like a pervert when I became bothered by the lack of intimacy in most YA series I read. It seemed like holding hands was already something risqué, but they scoot right past that in some of the chapters in this book (yay).

I wasn't really satisfied with how the ending worked out. The entire book was building up to something that was obvious from the start, and then Alex just had to go and spoil it all by doing something stupid like ~~I love youuuu... ahem, sorry the song popped into my head~~ forget that she's pretty much still a novice when it comes to fighting, no matter what's in store for her.

Btw, random thought, but do any of you have color-changing eyes? I'm waiting for Aiden's eyes to turn purple or green or something, Alex mentions them every other sentence and just how many shades of silver are there anyway?

I'm in the middle of the second book right now, can't say I'm exactly thrilled by it yet, but it's too early for me to form an opinion already.(less)

I decided I wanted to read this book because it was recommended to everyone who loved the Vampire Academy Series. Let me say I was not disappointed. I am very grateful for my good friend Tee who sent me a copy. Squeeeee!!!

When I first started reading this book, I was a bit flustered because it reminded me too much of the Vampire Academy Series. It should be said I am a huge Vampire Academy fan. It is one of my very favorite series and I talk about it non stop to anyone who will listen. I felt like Half Blood was, for lack of better words, a rip off. What I learned from my venting was the author has never even read the Vampire Academy Series. So I then came to a conclusion that Armentrout is a genius.

Although in the beginning of this story I saw some similarities to Vampire Academy this book took so many different twists and turns. I find the story refreshing and flat out AWESOME. The way the author blended in Greek mythology was a breath of fresh air for me. Although I am certain there are lots of books that are about mythology this was my first.

Half Blood had it all for me. What I enjoyed most were the characters. Who wouldn’t love the stellar line up the author has so beautifully crafted. I loved each and every one of them. From Alex, our heroine to the oh so sexy boys. Aiden, Deacon, Seth, Caleb, Marcus and Jackson. She is witty, a bit of a smart ass, a bad ass and all around lovable. She kept each page full of entertainment. Alex was surrounded by a group of hotties. Each of them had a role in her life. I am in awe of how the author blended in so many great characters into one book. All of who I fell for.

This book is packed full of awesomeness!! This author has turned me into one of her biggest fans. I would highly recommend this book to everyone! This isn’t a series you want to pass up. I have a feeling the author is only going to deliver us with an amazing series.

I absolutely 100% adored this book. It was incredible and I could not put it down. If I didn't have to sleep I could have easily read the whole thing in one sitting, as it turns out I do have to sleep so I read it in 2.

Rather than become a servant for the Pure's Alex must prove she is worth becoming a Sentinal so is trained by Aiden. But overcoming her feelings for Aiden are the least of her worries as a shocking truth comes to light and Alex must face the thing she dreads the most if she hopes to survive through her last year of the Covenant and become a Sentinel. Can she succeed in her mission or is she fated to become a Daimon?

I loved everything about this book. It did remind me a little of Vampire Academy but it did not bother me at all. I loved VA and I love this. I can see why people compare the two books a lot but after finishing the book I do not believe they are all that similar. Yes, they are both set in a school, the main character is a kick-ass and they both end up training with someone they love but aren't supposed to. So What? I don't see why it matter so much because this book is phenomenal. It is an original story and I loved that it was mythological. I am such a mythology geek. I love everything mythological and Jennifer L Armentrout writes about mythology perfectly. I loved the concept of the Hematoi's and the Daimon's and the Half-Bloods and I think the character (species) building was incredible. I loved all of the characters and I loved the world in which Half-Blood is set it incredible.

Alex is one of my favourite characters ever. I love her. I love her tough-as-nails attitude and her sense of humour so much. Multiple times throughout the book I was laughing at the funny things and snide remarks she would come out with. She is just one of those characters everyone will love. I also loved Aiden, he is the sweetest character and the more I read about him the more I loved him. I feel sad that he is a Pure because all I want is for him and Alex to be able to be together. I still have hope that it could happen.
Another character I started to like more towards the end was Seth. I am curious to see how things will escalate with them in the next book and to see what happens. I am definitely an Aiden girl and don't want Alex and Seth together but at the same time I am curious to see where they will go from here and what will happen with them.

There are so many twists and turns in this book and so many times I was shocked at what had happened and I found myself thinking really? I never saw that coming. The second half of the book was definitely better than the first and this is where it started to come into it's originality and I loved it. It shocked me and it pulled at the heartstrings a lot.

This was such an incredible start to the series and I cannot wait to read the rest in the series. I am in love with Jennifer's writing style and I can't help but love every book she writes. Her worlds are incredible and you automatically just fall in love with her incredible characters. I am very excited to see what she comes up with next and I definitely have a new favourite author.(less)

Oh my gods. This was definitely an interesting take on the Greek gods and their children. Extremely interesting. I loved the hierarchy, and how, like the ones in our lives, doesn’t really make any sense. The characters are awesome. Its rare that we come across a blatant bad girl and nice guy. Granted, there is a bad boy as well, but the man I’m talking about, the one that I am rooting for, is a nice guy. The Superman type. *Sigh. But Alex might just be his Lois Lane…expect with a little more bit...more Oh my gods. This was definitely an interesting take on the Greek gods and their children. Extremely interesting. The chick was a witch with a capital B, but still…that takes cojones when you’re on the verge of being expelled and put into servitude. It’s nice and refreshing to have the opposite of what I’ve been reading for quite some time.
There were moments that were a little predictable, but when they happened I was still freaking out, and there were many moments that made me smile, and laugh out loud. Now, I was not as taken with Aiden from the beginning as many other people were. With Seth I was. He was made out to be like a God even before you met him, so when we were introduced and he had some crude humour to go along with those awesome powers and bad boy attitude I felt my heart move in my chest. But, with Aiden it took a while. He didn’t seem that interested at first. Instead he seemed a little emotionless and I couldn’t see him endgame with Alex. It wasn’t until about halfway through the novel that my heart moved for him. A certain…locker room moment. If you’ve read it you know what I’m talking about. In fact, my heart tried to jump out of my chest at that moment. And now I love him. *Sigh
Although the novel took some time to really get moving it had one hell of an opening, middle, and end. There was a long period when there wasn’t any action and instead we were getting to know all the characters, but when the action came I was riveted and grabbing onto the book so tightly that I think I left indents on the covers. It was never boring and always very interesting with the info that it provided in those less action filled moments. But I guess it was the characters. She never fully reveals everyone’s intent. Not even Alex. So I was left questioning everyone. What is Seth’s endgame? What about Aiden? What about her Uncle? Or, her Stepfather? God, you’ve got to love a series that makes you question everything and want more. Mind-boggling I tell you!
Good:
Alex—Refreshing from the usual good girls that we come across. Finally we have one that is will to fight and more than happy to pick a fight
Aiden—Can truly be seen in my mind as the Superman type. No friggin wonder everyone loves him.
Seth—You bring promise of shenanigans with you in the next novels.
Caleb—You are a very good friend
Bad:
Aiden—he seemed very distant at first and I just thought this romance was not going to work. Luckily he made up for it afterwards.
There were a couple of characters that were filled with Alex settling back into her life and generally that makes my mind wonder, but the information that is provided during those chapters is important stuff and in the end it all makes up for it.
Overall (Writing style, story line, and general):
Overall the writing style of this very well done. Like, Obsidian and Onyx, I found the humor to be well timed, the characters to be independent and different, and I found the story to be a new and refreshing take on something that people have written about many times, making this a very inviting read. Jennifer L. Armentrout never seems to provide anything less than an awesome book filled with awesome characters that promises to be a great series. This is definitely one that I plan on continuing.

The description on Goodreads really doesn't do this book justice. Of course the forbidden romance is alluring and pertinent to the story, but it's not always the biggest issue for Alexandria (a half-blood). Half-Blood opens up dealing with the aftermath of Daimon - Alex's mother having died at the hands of a daimon (DEE-mun). Alex has now returned to the Covenant, an island where pure-bloods and half-bloods live, learn, and work together, and the place her mother ripped her away from three years prior. Her mother had her reasons, but now she's dead and Alex has to find out on her own. Her former peers have their thoughts, but Alex tries not to listen.

Upon her return, Alex finds out that her uncle is now the Dean of the school. This could be good or bad. They've never been close, so he lays down the law: he doesn't want Alex there, but a pure-blood named Aiden fights to train her since her potential is extraordinary. Her uncle agrees, but she must be ready and caught up by fall at the start of school to stay. The alternative? Servitude and slavery, total obedience to the pure-bloods. Obviously a lot is at stake.

However, Alex has an attitude. She's snarky, spunky, and true to herself. This means she bends rules, starts fights, and doesn't back down. This could definitely get put her in hot water with the Dean. Not to mention, her step-father (a pure-blood) is on the island and could claim her at any moment since he's her legal guardian. What a mess.

As Aiden's training sessions progress, Alex starts to develop feelings for him. Sounds normal, but there are rules from the gods: Pures and Halfs can't mix romantically. Very big problem here. It becomes worse when Aiden becomes attached to Alex as well. But this is all I will tell you about this part. You absolutely must read to know more. Again, it's SO worth it.

There's a shock involving Alex's mother, and the oracle pays a visit to tell Alex her truths. Lots of Greek mythology with the gods and such.. very entertaining. I could say so much more, and I'm glad I talk to people who've read this because I want to talk nonstop about it. And I know it took a couple days to read, but I'm a slow reader, and I really wanted to just enjoy this one and let it soak in slowly.

Exceedingly entertaining, Half-Blood is the perfect hit for those of us who have been ailing from Vampire Academy withdrawals.

Jennifer L. Armentrout has written a fast-paced, mythology rich, funny, passionate, violent and emotional adventure; an adventure that I literally HAD to blow through because I just didn’t want to put my kindle down until the very last page. Even now I want to flick back to the beginning and start reading Half-Blood all over again.

If you have read Vampire Academy, you will see the obvious similarities. The characters and the story-line parallel in a lot of ways. If you liked VA then you might like this as well.

Neyin artistliğini yapıp bu kadar beklemişim bilmiyorum, kendimi tekmelemek,ne bileyim dürtüklemek falan istiyorum. Size önerim bu kitabı asla ama asla 2.si elinizde olmadan,cebinizde para olamadan,yada gece vakti okumayın. Çünkü 2.sini almak için önünüzde saatler oluyor, ve inanın beklemek berbat bir şey.

Jennifer Armentrout...I really think I may be in love with you. Seriously, I'm about as straight as they come, but after reading Obsidian and immediately following it up with Half-Blood!!!
