Tod Hudson was a typical teenager. He liked girls, sports, food and tolerated his younger brother, Nash. In fact, he had his whole life in front of him--and due to his bean sidhe heritage, it was going to be a very long life indeed. And then the car accident occurred.

Suddenly Tod's future wasn't so sure, and he had to make a choice. Life... Death... or something Between......more

I loved this novella - we get to know Tod and see what a great guy he is!

(view spoiler)[He found her first. This kinda changes things for me. Hummm (hide spoiler)]

Audio Book Rating: This audio book was narrated by Anthony Haden Salerno . I loved him as Tod!

Per Rachel's blog: "It's come to my attention that "Reaper" is up for pre-order for the Nook at Barnes & Noble. Which would be cool, except that it's listed with a price of $2.99. That will eventually be the right price at e-book stores, but for the first few months, "Reaper" will be free in most formats, in most places. And it will stay free in PDF format on my website."

Reading this novella has got me itching to read the series. I cannot wait to see how Tod fits into the series. Vincent has a fresh take on all things supernatural. Reading her stories are very refreshing, when a peron getts sick of reding stale or forced paranormal novels.

This is a great bonus story for fans of the Soul Screamers series. Unlike many of the discounted/freebie novellas that authors release, this one really enhances the story arc and provides a different and more balanced perspective. It's fun to be inside Tod's head and I was surprised at how touching some of the scenes were. I've always liked this character, but this novella made me understand and enjoy him even more.

This novella is a especially meaningful for fans as the series heads into If I D...more

Tod was like any other teenager. like most siblings, he often bickered with his younger brother, Nash. Tod was the matured one, often thinking things through; while Nash was the emotional one, where their mum often said he wore his heart on his sleeve. one day, Nash sneaked out while being grounded, calling in hours later screaming for Tod to pick him up. as annoyed as Tod was, the accident happened and Nash died. negotiating with the reaper, Tod was forced to make a decision, between Nash's lif...more

This was my first foray into the Reaper world so I can’t comment on the others in the series. If this novella is any indication of what the others are like and the quality of writing though, I’d tell you to go grab it and the others and sit down for a fun read.

When I thought I was done with the SS, I just remembered I haven't read the novellas except for My soul to loose... And If I want to be ready for Before I wake I need to know all about this wonderful world created by Rachel Vincent.
Reaper is a story by Tod's POV, in which he narrate his transition between bean sidhe and "reaper"

If you are a fan of the Soul Screamers series you really need to read this! I really enjoyed it and I loved having the story told from Tod's point of view. If I hadn't been in love with him before reading this I definitely would have been afterwards.

The story is a prequel in the sense it takes place before Tod becomes a reaper. We get to see what he was like, plus we get to see Nash as a 15 year old and we learn of Sabine. I've heard it's best to read this after at least the third book...more

I'm technically reading this out of order for the "Soul Screamers" series, but when I read this was a novella about Tod, I jumped at the chance for reading it since I loved his character from the first book (despite how little scene time he had in spurts). I received this as a free download for the kindle.

The novella tells the story of how Tod became a reaper, exchanging his life for his younger brother in the event of a terrible car accident. Rachel Vincent has a wonderful blend of humor, emoti...more

If I ignore my hatred of Rachel Vincent's obsession with repeating everything I already know about the book ('The female of our species was better known, historically and mythologically, by her iconic wail for the dying. What most of the human race didn’t know was that where they heard a head-splitting scream, male bean sidhes—like me and Nash—heard an eerie, compelling song calling out to disembodied souls, keeping them from moving on.' Yes I know I read it in the last book and the one before t...more

I loved this glimpse into Tod's transformation from bean sidhe to Reaper (reaper sidhe? heh). It adds new dimension to our understanding of this character while meshing with the existing portrayal of him in the main book series - which is through another's eyes, and chronologically down the line. I particularly appreciate this aspect because it means that Vincent is writing Tod as a non-static character and effectively layering both Tod's character developments as well as Kaylee's perception of...more

I just realized this is a novella connected to the Soul Screamer series by Rachel Vincent. It was a great read but not recommended to start reading the series well. I have to admit, I haven't read a single book in the series which is a shame because Reaper is awesome.

I would love to read the first book first to know how the story progressed but reading Reaper was enough pull for me to divert attention to a great series. I've read numerous reviews stating how great the series was but I never got...more

I've been eying the Soul Screamers series for a while, but the last thing I want is yet another paranormal romance series. However, when I got a Nook for Christmas and saw this novella listed as a free download, I figured this might be a good way to dip my toe in the water.

Tod, his brother Nash, and his mom are all banshees. It doesn't seem to matter much in their day-to-day lives, but when Tod and his brother get into a car accident and Nash dies, Tod knows enough about the paranormal world to...more

Tod est trop drôle quand même, et quelque chose dans l'écriture fait que pour une fois je ne me prends pas la tête à me dire c'est vraiment une narration de garçon, ça ? En plus, avec la dramatic irony, c'est vraiment sympa “But if I'm late, my mom will jump to all the right conclusions, and then my dad will kill you. Seriously. And what am I gonna do with a dead boyfriend?” demande Genna, sans savoir à quel point elle allait avoir raison.

J'aime vraiment l'humour de Tod même si je suspecte la ré...more

"Reaper" was a B&N Nook Free Friday offering.

All families have their problems, even families of bean sidhe. Tod is left to watch his younger brother, Nash, after Nash is grounded due to some hijinks. But Nash has other ideas and sneaks out to go to a party, then calls Tod asking for a ride home. Despite Tod's frustration with his brother, he obliges--only to get into a car wreck and be forced to make the hardest decision of his life. Now Tod is a Reaper, but he is determined that, by frequen...more

I love just about everything Rachel Vincent writes! No joke! Her Shifters series was amazing and I so can't wait to read her next adult series that should come out some time next year if I remember correctly. And her YA series, Soul Screamers is amazing as well! And the short novellas that Rachel has now written that take place before My Soul to Take are incredible! You get to know the backstory behind certain events.

Dying is the easy part! The one who SURVIVES, who LIVES, got the harder part!
Reaper is a short story, centered on Todd. It was good to understand Todd and I got to see a different side of him. However, this doesn't change how I feel about him. The best I can come up with is I’m indifferent when it comes to Todd. He is an enigma.
1st off, Todd’s choice brought Nash misery! He would live with the guilt of killing his brother for a long time; worse Nash’s mother did blame Nash for his brother’s dea...more

REAPER is the basically the back story of how Tod Hudson the bean sidhe, became the dealer of death that he is today. This novella gives us glimpse into the somewhat normal life of Tod and his brother, Nash. It's a story of choices, good and bad. It's a story of sacrifice. It's a story of loss. And a story of what is means to be family.

I first want to state for the record, I LOVE TOD HUDSON! And here I thought that there was no way that I could possible love him, more then I already did! Rachel...more

I've read this book in about one hour and let me tell you that it was one hell of a hour. Everything about this novella was intriguing and right on target. If anything, it made me want Tod even more.

This novella is base on Tod and the events leading up to his death. Ms. Vincent wrote a wonderful story fulfilling everything I wanted to know about Tod. There were some things that were revealed that would help me understand My Soul to Steal better. Although it does make me weary to read it seeing t...more

Reaper is a novella of the Soul Screamer series by Rachel Vincent. This novella is about Tod and told from his point of view. It is a great one to read right before My Soul to Steal, because you get a minor introduction and preview of Sabine and Nash’s relationship. Tod is your typical teenager who just wants to hang out with his girlfriend, but little brother Nash has to get in the way. I have to say this book made me fall completely in love with Tod!

When you read the Soul Screamer series, you...more

I have not read the rest of the Soul Screamers series, except for book one and now both novellas, but I really enjoy the world Rachel Vincent has created. I like her writing style and creativity. Plus, the books are set in Texas. I love reading books taking place in my home state.

This was one of the shorter novellas I've read. The ending felt a little abrupt and definitely left me wanting more. While I've never been one to read about ghosts or dead people, the content of Reaper did not bother m...more

Omigosh, I am in love with this novella, now that I've read Tod's side of the story, I can relate to him better and understand why he is what he is and how he got there. Rachel opens up Tod's mind to us and shows us just what this guy is capable of, and we see how much he really cares for his brother, Nash, and for his whole family as well. Really, Tod is just like every one of us and he has such an amazing soul, even when it can come into question at times, but he proves his worth time and time...more

Plot: This novella was very confusing for me. I suppose if I had read her other books I might understand more, but the tension in this story wasn't enough to completely satisfy me.

Characters: The few characters that were in the novella seemed to all be overly static, minus the main character. I'm all for static characters, don't get me wrong, but I prefer them to be a little more lovely than these ones were.

Setting: Most of the setting was insignificant, with the exception of the recurring hospi...more

Since this is just a mid-series ebook, I’m gonna be short on my review. I only have to brief points to make:

 Finally we get to know more about Tod.
I’ve said it for the past three books, I prefer Tod by a long shot. I seriously can’t stand Nash, he’s a total idiot with a capital I.
And he was so stupid to let his brother die.
So now we know that everytime Nash yells at Tod to ‘get out’, even when he should realize his brother might sometimes feel lonely with nobody with him, the little wretch isn’...more

Honestly, this is not the Tod story I was hoping for, at least not all of it.

REAPER tells the story of Tod’s last day alive, his recruitment by the Reapers, and his first few days on the job, so to speak. It is fun seeing the relationship between Nash and Tod while they are both alive, and finally learn the details about how Tod died. Plus there is an interesting twist at the very end that I’m betting will come into play in the future.

I just finished reading My Soul to Take last week, which is the first book in Rachel Vincent's Soul Screamers series. So when I stumbled across this little gem with a $0 price tag and having just bought a Kobo how could I resist? This was such a fun read! I had a smile on my face the entire time while reading. Tod is hilarious!

He's a reaper, obviously. In this novella we learn how he becomes one. Which is a heart breaking, messed-up story in itself, but after learning it you can't help but admir...more

I can't tell a lie, this story made me love Tod (more). Told from a point both before he died (immediately before he died) to just after his death and later, we see that Tod was an irrepressible flirt from the very beginning.

Reading this and thinking back on his interactions with Nash throughout the first three books, a lot makes more sense. Its not fair to say this is a 'prequel' to My Soul to Steal since this has less to do with Sabine and Nash and more to do with Tod becoming a Reaper and wha...more
