The Forgotten Locket is an incredible, beautiful ending to the Hourglass Door Trilogy. With the ending of The Golden Spiral, I was more than anxious to read the sequel, to see what would happen, and finally have everything come together. Lisa Mangum created an intricate, timeless tale with her story of Dante and Abby. It flows with the breath of time, circling into my mind, taking root, becoming one with me. She created the possible out of the impossible, by using the echoes of time, the chime o...more

3.5 for this one. It’s better than the second book, but not as good as the first. I guess it’s a satisfying ending for the series, but I was bothered by a lot here. First, there were lots of convenient bending/breaking of rules with the river/bank that confused me. Also, way too much garbage with Zo and not enough interaction with the past IMO. And, there seemed to be some weird inconsistencies in this series--with weird resolutions (or non-resolutions) in this book (e.g. the Sofia thing was odd...more

I need this to come out. I miss Abby and Dante and Zo and Valerie and Natalie and Leo and Jason and... and everybody.

I wonder if The Forgotten Locket will also start with "Is this a joke?" as the first sentence. Did anyone else notice that it was the first line for books one and two?

Enough rambling. Here are my predictions, which I will probably update frequently:

- Leo will elaborate on who "Sofia" is.
- Abby will meet Leonardo da Vinci.
- Valerie will get her sanity back.
- I want to say we'll get...more

I am so glad I liked this book much better then #2!! It didn't wait so long for some action to start and I was interested from the get go. This book answered the questions left hanging from book 1 & 2 and wrapped things up nicely for me.

The details of time travel made more sense to me in this book and I liked the prologue giving another person's point of view.

I really liked that this series was clean and sex wasn't an issue. I found it very romantic and I'd think teenagers could have a new...more

The Forgotten Locket is the final installment of Lisan Mangum's Hourglass Trilogy. In this stunning world of time travel and romance are the main characters Abby and Dante, along with their many memorable friends who find themselves through the door of time. The adventures they face are skillfully told by Mangum in golden descriptions that maintain your interest from start to finish.

Mangum's graceful style of depicting things fit well into the story. The story is very fast pace as so much things...more

Abby stepped through the hourglass door at the end of the last book and the story picks right up from there. She and Dante continue to try and save the river of time, which Zo has changed and broken. If they are not successful time will break completely.[return][return]This book just didn’t do it for me. I just wasn’t able to get a cohesive sense of how the story connected. It didn’t seem that there was a strong plot arc, where every piece would eventually connect to form the story. It was more...more

“The Forgotten Locket” is the perfect ending to a great series. Author Lisa Mangum avoids falling into the pitfall of following someone else’s success, and in the process, she found success herself. With each book her pacing gets better and her prose more sophisticated.

For a more cohesive story, it’s best if readers read or reread the first two books in this trilogy before picking up “The Forgotten Locket,” although fans of the series will find themselves quickly...more

The finale of the Hourglass door trilogy. Dante is safe in the present, but now Abby is stuck in the past, making her way through Italy to try to find her way back home--and safely, because the last remaining member of Zero Hour, Zo, is tailing after her and once again trying to stop her. In the end, it is up to her and Dante to make the final stand against him. Otherwise, time itself will be lost forever.

Definitely a worthwhile ending to this series. It had a good enough pace that I didn't want...more

Sooo wow. The finale to the Hourglass Door series. I loved it by default, because it concluded the story, it was beautifully written, the relationships and love between all the characters was so pure...

But I couldn't give it a 5th star because SO much of the characters' time was spent in the Bank, and at times it got a little confusing as to who was where, or when.

And I kept thinking "seriously, how much worse can it get for these people?" And Zo would go and do something even-worse than what...more

This book has made me realize that I'm either in a reading slump or maybe getting pickier about the books I read. I'm also 9 months pregnant so my mind is probably a little more sensitive than normal.

On the positive side, these books were a great fictional read. At first I was worried it was going to turn into a "twilight-esce" book. I was happy to discover it was not about vampires. I was intrigued to discover it was about time travel. It is another young adult fiction series, which sometimes...more

This isn't really a review because I just don't have the energy to think about and articulate everything that was wrong with this book. Usually I devour books like this in one sitting, but I had to read this book over the course of a couple weeks because I JUST COULDN'T TAKE ANYMORE... You know the feeling.

Anywho~

Since I don't want to write a full review of this book, instead I will list the shelves I am tempted to create on my account just so I can put this book on them:

I kept reading this because I had read the first two and wanted to see how it resolved... but it was just like a series of superfluous conflicts that were all resolved in ridiculous ways. Like, "There is this huuuuge problem! The world is going to end. How about I pull an illogical answer out of thin air and try it? Oh, wow! It worked! Because I'm SPECIAL!" Lather, rinse, repeat. And seriously, this is the end of the book: "I made a wish, and I knew in my core it would come true. So I wished tha...more

This book is the third in the Hourglass Door series. Abby has to travel back in time to close the loop but faces many struggles on the way. When she gets there she bumps in to Orlando who is Dante's brother who is now the older Leo. He helps her find her way around old Italy until she finds Dante and sadly Zo. Zo was responsible for a lot of her trouble well she was trying to close the loop of time. He messed with her mind and made her forget everything and stole the locket Deante had given her...more

Reading the final book of this series was like going on a long awaited vacation - you plan for it, you wait, you enjoy every minute it, and then when it's almost over [if you're like me...] you start to get a little sad and a bit depressed because it's coming to an end! I almost didn't want to finish the last few chapters because I didn't want it to be done - yeah, so I'm a dork!

I have enjoyed the development of the story over the course of the three books. One of my favorite characters is still...more

I'm so relieved this series is over! I pushed through this last one and was just saddened by so much wasted potential. The author really has a way of illustration so you feel like you are there and you can vividly see the imagery in your head. Her writing can be beautiful. Also her particular concept of a river of time and traveling to the bank of the river was new and original to me. I felt she really could go far.

However, I was left frustrated by too many connections she made without explanati...more

This book was not as good as the previous two, though I still enjoyed it. I really feel like this book was pretty repetitive. Every time something good was about to happen, Zo would show up and ruin everything. This was not only repetitive, but very frustrating. It's kind of like watching a superhero movie where the hero has to fight some larger, evil version of himself and ends up getting the stuffing knocked out of him. It's hard to cheer for the underdog when they're constantly getting crushe...more

For the record, I'm rating this a 3.8. Read below to see why.

As the last of the Hourglass trilogy, The Forgotten Locket does much to satisfy the readers as well as it can. It starts immediately after Abby steps through the door in The Golden Spiral. She lands in Italy right at the moment where Orlando steps onto the bank the very first time. Abby, Orlando/Leo, Dante, and Valerie all come together in a whirlwind of adventure to stop Zo, the psychopath musician who wants to control time or destro...more

I was very disappointed in this book. My expectations were very high and they weren't met. My fault, I know, but her first two books were amazing! This one had too much detail, not enough action and the romance didn't feel real. It was boring. There was a few things I liked about it though, like Valerie and Zo, for instance. They are such great characters! I also liked the ending, it was very well written!

Abby has gone through the hourglass door so that she can help repair the damage that Zo has done to the river of time. If she is not able to close the loop that was thrown out of whack, time will continue to unravel. This seems like it won't be too hard, but unfortunately, Zo discovers her plans and follows her back 500 years to the time when Dante entered the door for the first time. He uses all his powers to try and ruin everything, and try and get Abby to be his in the bargain.

I thought the f...more

SPOILER . . . Even though I liked the book . . . there were several irritating parts to it.
The constant reference to how confusing time can be - yeah, we get it, you are in multiple places at once. If we can follow the story of several characters being doubled up, why can't they just follow their own?
The fact that even though they looked down the river (Dante's gift??) . . . they couldn't see what Zo saw? To be able to plan ahead like he did?
And the ever obvious ... If Zo could go back in tim...more

Lisa Mangum burst onto the young adult contemporary fantasy scene like a firework with the release of The Hourglass Door, and continued to burn brightly through The Golden Spiral. With The Forgotten Locket, she puts on an entire fireworks show, dazzling the reader with burst after burst of excitement and drama until the story (and the trilogy) come to a very satisfying conclusion.

Whoa, I’m starting to sound like Bruno Tonioli. Sorry about that.

I'm not even sure how I feel about this book. I read it because I was interested in seeing how it all panned out and in hopes that things made sense to me at the end. It really didn't. There is all this talk about closing the loop and preserving time but in the end they actually had to do this far flung thing to do it that made no sense.
I still don't understand how the bank/river work and how exactly they get to and from these places and why they can't just jump into the river at all and travel...more

I really enjoyed reading this series. It's been more than a month since reading it and I still find myself thinking about it from time to time. I think I like it more since time has passed than I did even while reading...weird? (You know a book or series is good if you still think about it well after finishing, agree?) Great read!

Oh. My. Goodness. After waiting for an entire year for this final installment to hit the presses, after suffering extreme Dante withdrawal symptoms during that eternity, and after finally clutching this book in my hot little hands, savoring each word like mouthfuls of dark chocolate, I think I can distill my experience into one simple comment…

Aaaahhhhh.

The Forgotten Locket is that satisfying. I took my time marveling over every nuance, every turn of phrase, feeling saturated, content—and flippin...more

Lisa's a wonderful writer. She can truly weave magic with words and, in many places both in this concluding volume and "The Golden Spiral" before, I enjoyed the poetry of her prose.

However, I found the plot dragging in this volume, as well as in "The Golden Spiral," and sensed that she was grabbing to remain in control of the whole time travel element. I would be very surprised if she outlined this whole series in advance, because it really began to seem as if she was making it up as she went a...more
