I was looking through some of the reviews and see that some people gave it five stars and some gave it only one. I think if the people who gave it one star would practice the principles given in this book they would quickly upgrade their rating.

This book was published in 1937, during the Great Depression, and if the people who suffered during that time had read this book their lives might have been better.

Ted, my old boss at KWE (Kintetsu World Express) first recommended this book to me and told me that it very much changed his way of thinking. He said it might do the same to my own thinking.

About his deaf son on page 37: "We would not permit him to learn sign language. We were determined that he should live a normal life and associate with normal children, and we stood by that decision, although it cost us many heated debates with school officials."

This is the best self help book any entrepreneur could ever read. Perhaps the only one they need to. Truly transformative. I have it on audio too and listen to it at the gym often.

Napoleon Hill was tasked by Andrew Carnegie to write a book on what made a successful person succeed, and he spent 20 years researching and interviewing every great name of the day (Ford, Woolworth, Edison, etc), plus lots of people who failed (because you have to know what doesn't work too). One of the best books I've ever read. It kept me thinking the whole time about the ideas that I've encountered in this book. It talks about the new philosophy of enlightenment with practical applications of it.
The book talks mainly about accumulating riches, but it could be replaced by any other gaol that one desires.
This book will probably affect your life greatly if you're not already familiar with the new age of enlightenment.

There are a lot of nuggets of wisdom in this well-done comic book for adults.

Napoleon Hill was a writer of personal success literature that examined the role of personal beliefs and the role they play in a person's success or failure in life. I bought this book just as the year 2008 is starting. What's odd about this is that I don't even have any inkling of what kind of a book this is when I bought it in downtown Recto (I eventually found that it belong to the self-help genre). The book's title, "Think and Grow Rich" by napoleon Hill just flashed in my mind and, finding no prospective book to read at that time, I plunged on. As of this writing, I had finished the second round of reading it with future plans of doing it the third, fou...more I bought this book just as the year 2008 is starting. What's odd about this is that I don't even have any inkling of what kind of a book this is when I bought it in downtown Recto (I eventually found that it belong to the self-help genre). The book's title, "Think and Grow Rich" by napoleon Hill just flashed in my mind and, finding no prospective book to read at that time, I plunged on. As of this writing, I had finished the second round of reading it with future plans of doing it the third, fourth, and fifth time as my time permits. But life is too short and there's too much of books I still got to read. ^_^
Anyway, I'd outlined here a summary of the book's philisophy of how to accumulate Huge Amounts of money. I also found fascinating the subjects on the Principle of Autosuggestion and (get this!!) The Mystery of Sex Transmutation! Getting curious what these are all about..?? Why don't you grab the book and be awakened by the eternal truths on how to "attract" the surging wave of riches.

* Find something you love to do. You have to love what you are doing; you have to be anxious to go to work in the morning. Until you find something that you really love to do, you are probably not going to be successful because just making money doesn't make you successful.
* Develop a plan of action. Developing a plan takes more than just thinking. You have to take action, too. Hill says you may not have all the details figured out in the beginning, but forming a plan is a good start. You can always alter your plan later on, he adds.
* Involve other people. Hill states that in addition to finding something we are passionate about, we need to align ourselves with other people to accomplish our goals. No matter how smart we are, we need others because we can't know everything about a particular thing.
* Don't forget to give back. The more success you have, the more you are in a position to give back and make a difference in the lives of others is the philosophy that I have imbibed by reading this book. Most people who have been successful are very willing to help someone else achieve their own goals.

I wish to state here the insights I've gained in reading this book, but I think it will deprive you of the fascination of knowing these things first hand. I envy you the journey of truly knowing yourself. Remember it's not the destination that matters, but how you've come to enjoy the journey and made the most out of it!

I have read hundreds of books over the past many years in my quest for success. "Think and Grow Rich" truly stands right near the top. It has made a positive impact on my life in many ways.

Frankly, as with many wonderful books, I have applied the principles in this book and have reaped incredible results.

Hill suposedly wrote this book because he wants to help people recognize and overcome their fear of poverty. He basically claims that you receive exactly what you fear. He says the symptoms of the Fear of Poverty (the characteristics of a poor person) are: Indifference, indecision, doubt, worry, over-caution, and procrastination.

But the book doesn’t do a good job of helping people overcome their “fear of poverty.”

I can't count how many times I have heard of this book mentioned among entrepreneurs and successful people in general, a lot of them my own friends and role models, but alas, I did not care for Think and Grow Rich. I gave this book more than its fair shake and here's my reaction.

It starts out really strong, and delivers home a great, great message - about creating your own destiny with intense desire and singular focus about what you want and making the ultimate decision that you will make it happen, come hell or high water.

OK, I am with you so far, Mr. Hill, and I am willing to come along.

But then the book goes into story after story, and every time the author makes a point, he has to go into CAPITAL LETTER mode to shout it at me. WHY? I am not deaf - I can hear you even if you say it without all that intensity. Once or twice, I get it but the writing voice just becomes more annoying and almost belligerent to the point that I just couldn't read it. In fact, for a while, I was reading it and staying detached, just to see what else I could gather without getting emotionally connected with the author ... And listen, there are some great points in this book IF you can stand the writer's voice, the repetition of the same bloody points over and over, and the occasional degrading way he talks to you about how you WILL FAIL if you do such and such ....

Just couldn't finish the book. I read about 30% and I have a strong feeling the remaining 70% might have covered pretty much the same thing.

Maybe I am not in a place in my life to appreciate this book but I thought I am in the perfect place - I have changed the course of my career and my life 360 degrees, I LIVE and breathe the principles that the author talks about and I am starving for more but alas, I could simply not finish this book for the life of me. What I read, I will use and I will continue to appreciate the concepts. Hope this helps you decide what you might do about the book.(less)

Considering this book was written decades ago, it stands the test of time. It continually promises to divulge 'the secret' of very successful businessmen in gaining their wealth - decades ago, mind you, when life was less hectic, less organised and society was completely left off the map of the information superhighway(which didn't exist at the time). It allows the reader from the outside point of view, to explore the possibilities of incurring large lump sums of money over night – no literally. From start to finish this specific genre gives a variety of different procedures on self-improvement, in realizing one can do for themselves instead of waiting for another to do for them.
Looking back at the past, this novel has had a great impact on the way many unconsciously think today. While in the first couple chapters of, “Think & Grow Rich,” the novel has a peculiar way of introducing new ideas and concepts into the reader’s sub-conscious mind. For example, on page 17 it says, “Wishing will not bring riches. But desiring riches with a state of mind that becomes an obsession.” What relations can be drawn? In an optimistic view, one can say that this type of delivery can not only inquire one to be obsessed with riches, but also cause them to develop bad habits. However, one thing that I truly disliked about the novel was simply the length of its lines. Repeating the same thing/ideas over and over again just in a different way, has been without doubt one of the worst things that I have ever had to endure. For example, on page 5 it says, “don’t stop when your only three feet away from gold.” Then on page 9 it says, “If your only three feet away from gold don’t stop.” If these two quotes don’t say exactly the same thing, then I really don’t know what does. With this good and bad version of pros and cons, this novel is great for ever enjoys precise detailed instruction on how to become rich.
In conclusion, this novel has its up and down’s but still manages to be one of the best books that I have read so far. From front to back there’re more than a sufficient amount of information that will capture the reader’s attention. If I could rate this book from 1:5, it would be three and a half. I recommend this book for anyone who’s interested in business, a sense of direction, and most importantly self-improvement.

This is the first book I ever read on the subject of conscious reality creation, I was a young teenager then. The memorable quote "whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve" changed my life. At school I was indoctrinated with affirmations such as "no pain, no gain", "life is a struggle, get used to it", etc. Deep inside I never agreed with these beliefs. The mind cannot differentiate between truth and falsehood, we simply need to instruct or manipulate it toward a certain mode!

This book has many advantages over other self help books. 1. It does not teach that just thinking about something will make it happen. It teaches that you have to DO something to make it happen. 2. It teaches how to go about figuring out what you want and pursuing your dreams. 3. This book is relatively old yet still sells so it has passed some test of time.

This was the Jolly Girls Book Club latest read! I don't usually read "self help" books and was a bit nervous especially once I realized I had gotten my hands on the unabridged version of this book. When you think of the self-help gurus of today, they can all pretty much credit Napoleon Hill as the original inspirational, motivational speaker of the 20th century. Nappy, as I lovingly refer to him, was ahead of his time with his Think and Grow Rich book. Of course, I didn't read it back than but I had to keep reminding myself the era of the book is from the 1920's. Every word in that summary is important. This book ultimately regards how you think and how your thoughts will get you to wherever you choose. Though dated, this book provides concrete ideas for anyone wanting to achieve a goal and take stock of their business (and personal) weaknesses that may be currently preventing them from achieving it. The one section that is clearly out of date in our society deals with the "weakness of sex" - altogether humorous from a modern perspective, but perhaps not untoward. I’d wanted to read a classic self-help book, and several modern motivational speakers have credited Napoleon Hill. This book was written in the US in 1937, during recovery from the Great Depression. Hill asserts that the Great Depression was worsened by mass fear, and this concept seems just as valid in today’s economy. Much of what is offered in “The Secret,” including that now-trademarked name (a term that Hill coined but failed to copyright), is a direct rip-off from Hill.
