Another enjoyable Gerald Durrell book. This was a selection of short stories about various encounters that Durrell has had over the years - based on a few themes, such as hand raising creatures, catching animals from the wild etc. I particularly enjoyed the tale of the marmoset that lived with Durrell in his house for 8 years.

Discussing the origin and explanation of certain aspects of nature, Durrell describes the roles and significance of decisions made by animals in nature. With this, Durrell touches upon an interesting topic, answering many questions relating animals and nature.
Ian Smith
A book based on Gerald Durrell's radio broadcasts, published in 1958, a couple of years after his masterpiece; My Family and Other Animals. A series of interesting facts and anecdotes, but nowhere near as glorious a read as MFAOA. Presumably better heard than read.

Enough good things can't be said about Gerald Durrell and his amazing (true) animal stories. Touching, clever, interesting, very witty and thoroughly compelling. I have seven of his books already, and my collection is steadily growing.

Highly recommended.

I enjoyed this book tremendously. I listened to the audiobook and re-listened to the portion about Sarah the giant anteater a couple of times, grinning ear to ear each time.

If you enjoy animal stories, try this book. It's quite delightful.

An incredibly vivid look into the worlds of various creatures. Astoundingly descriptive, it encourages the reader to learn more of the animal customs and flares up curiosity about the natural world.

Durrell's descriptive powers are so excellent, I now really want to own several exotic animals myself.
David Smith
If you love animals - anything by Gerald Durrell is a fabulous read - and worth reading aloud.

Read it as a kid and loved it. Entertaining nonfiction.

Gerald Durrell was born in India in 1925. His family settled on Corfu when Durrell was a boy and he spent his time studying its wildlife. He relates these experiences in the trilogy beginning with My Family and Other Animals, and continuing with Birds, Beasts and Relatives and The Garden of the Gods. In his books he writes with wry humour and great perception about both the humans and the animals ...more
