First off, let me say that I'm completely biased when it comes to Hawke, so don't expect this to be a sensible and impartial "review". ;)

Hawke alone deserves 5 stars, and I'll just be honest and say that I'd love this book even if the plot was utter crap - which it isn't, of course.

This was one of the best PNR books I've read this year. Unlike some well-known authors, who have gotten lazy and putting out inferior books in their series, Singh is still at the top of her game and reaching higher. A great romance, and she furthers the general storyline with a powerful, exciting story.

I read this book Friday. Now it's Monday and I'm still an incoherent schmuck. I have been wrecked, y'all.
I want to read more books about Hawke and Sienna. I feel like their story could go on and on and never get old or boring. It makes me wish they had their own series like Elena and Raphael do in the Guild Hunter series :P

Nalini has come a long way with her Psy-Changeling series. I can still remember the first time I picked up Slave to Sensation back in 2006, knowing I found an author I’d stick with for life. Nalini is an incredibly talented author, and if you’re not reading her books, you’re missing out on something special.

I read Kiss of Snow a few months ago and was on the fence whether or not I should review it. The reason is there are some things I enjoyed reading, while there were other things I found lacking. Kiss of Snow, from the overwhelming amount of reviews posted, is where everyone is head of heels in love with this book. It seems I’m in the minority here. Honestly, it’s hard to review Kiss of Snow because not only have I met Nalini and chatted with her in emails, but as I said before, I’ve enjoyed the majority of what she’s written. Kiss of Snow was missing something for me as a reader. At one point I had to put the book down and read something else, and then come back to it. I think my problem lies with expectation. This happens from time to time and Kiss of Snow is a perfect example of this.

Kiss of Snow is what the Psy-Changeling fans have been waiting for, especially those who adore Sienna, the young X-Psy refugee, and her love for Hawke, the uber alpha wolf of the SnowDancer pack. These two have been dancing around each other since the moment they met. Hawke’s desire for Sienna has grown to the point where he’s consumed with jealousy and incredible frustration. (The man has a serious case of mega blue balls) Hawke keeps his feeling bottled up inside because he feels Sienna is too young and fragile to take him on. (Sienna is 19 and Hawke is almost 30) Plus Hawke is dedicated to the memory of his mate he lost when he was very young. Very young is the key thing here as in Hawke and the girl he loved never connected on a level together as a grown man and woman. Because of this he feels he can’t mate with any other woman, most of all a Psy, like Sienna.

Sienna is tortured in every single way. We’ve seen this many times with past Psy heroines. She has the ability to be a true unemotional killer, a weapon much like her Uncle Judd once was. But Sienna is not cold and distant, or in control as everyone around her thinks her to be. Sienna is slowly breaking down inside and can barely keep up her defenses because of Hawke. She wants Hawke desperately and longs to be the one he turns to for intimacy.

These two can hardly be around each other without acting out. The way things have been between Sienna and Hawke has come to an end and new beginning is in store for them. Sienna decides to throw herself in Hawke’s face by acting as if she doesn’t need him. She goes off with her Changeling friends to bars and clubs, while Hawke broods and smolders, his inner beast fighting to break free to claim Sienna as his own. And then finally Hawke can’t take it anymore. All bets are off. Hawke unleashes his snarling wolf and Sienna no longer has a chance because Hawke is finished with the games and wants to play on his terms.

Sienna and Hawke’s passion for one another is combustible. Hawke doesn’t pounce on Sienna right away, but courts her with deadly precision. It’s like he’s going off to war. Sienna wants Hawke in all his forms, but is scared because of what lies inside her. These two take a long time to come together. Kiss of Snow is one big buildup of foreplay where I was frustrated alongside these two. But when they throw all caution aside, their love scenes will scorch your eyeballs when they finally share their bodies with one another.

The majority of the plot is dedicated to Sienna and Hawke, but we do see another, tender side with Sienna’s, innocent in the ways of intimacy, Uncle Walker and the SnowDancer healer, Lara. These two are the complete opposites from their counterparts and their interactions were lovely, so much so I was more interested in them at one point. Also Judd has a great deal of interaction, including Sasha and Lucas, whose happily ever after is in full force. These two are still my all-time favorite couple in the series and I was so happy to see them and their growing family.

With all these wonderful characters and their relationships, you’d think Kiss of Snow would be a perfect novel. It wasn’t for me. I found Kiss of Snow to be more surface reading if anything, the depth was lacking and the focus was off. Many sections were shortened and there wasn’t much action overall. There was a great deal of talking and internal musing, mainly from Sienna and Hawke. I was disappointed how Sienna’s relationship with Kit was played out. I felt that was as cop out, a way to get Kit out of the way so everything could be concentrated on Sienna and Hawke. I was expecting much more with Kit and Sienna, for him to be the catalyst to push Hawke into claiming Sienna, but their relationship was cut off abruptly.

The last fifty pages are explosive. If only this could have been occurred from the very beginning. There’s a secondary story with Judd, his Arrows and a big surprise thanks to the Ghost that you won’t see coming. I have a good idea the Ghost could be one of two characters, one who is obvious, the other way under the radar, and if Nalini decides to go with the one readers least expects, you can bet it will be shocking to the max.

There’s been a great deal of discussion about books being subjective, and for me Kiss of Snow is a perfect example. I realize I’m in the small minority with Kiss of Snow, and although I was less than astounded by what I read, I’m still very much dedicated to this series. Nalini has created a world and a group of characters I’ll never forget. I just wish Kiss of Snow had been that book I couldn’t stop thinking about. Unfortunately it wasn’t. I do look forward to even more Psy-Changeling books in the future and wait with baited breath for her announcement about Kaleb and his book. *gets downs on knees that Kaleb gets his own book*

You should all keep in mind that Kaleb is mine.

If you’re a diehard fan of Sienna and Hawke you’ll want to have babies with this book and will most likely re-read it many times until the next Psy-Changeling book is released.(less)

Ah, Hawke and Sienna’s book… It has been the most anticipated release of the series for me. All that tension between them and the curiosity of how they would end up together (with him already having had a mate) has made for a very long wait. Even as the SnowDancers scramble to protect their territory and defend their young against an impending war with the Psy, Hawke finds that the wolf will not be deterred from taking what it believes to be his.

As far as leading ladies go, Sienna is definitely a strong, likable heroine who knows what she wants and will fight for those she loves. Even though she is an X-Psy and has the power to decimate an entire continent, Singh doesn’t portray her as this all powerful and untouchable being. Rather Sienna has this immense power that she is struggling to contain and use for the good of the pack. When it comes to her turbulent relationship with Hawke, I appreciated how she didn’t let him push her around or dictate their relationship. In fact, she demanded that when they were together that he treat her like his equal rather than his subordinate. The only time this wasn’t the case was when they were in bed and Hawke’s wolf took the lead, and let me just say that those scenes were hot, Hot, HOT! Sienna also wasn’t afraid to speak her mind or say no, even if it meant pissing off the strongest and most intimidating member of the pack.

The issues I had with Kiss of Snow are small and barely worth mentioning, but I will say that it both amused and annoyed me that whenever Hawke got all hot and bothered he would tear the clothes from Sienna’s body. I was amazed that she had any clothes left by the end of the novel and didn’t just simply walk around stark naked. I don’t know about all of you, but I would be a little miffed if my boyfriend shredded my favorite top or tore through an expensive pair of intimates every time we had sex. However, despite Hawke’s disturbing tendency to destroy all things fabric, I really loved this book and was sad to see it end. Reading Kiss of Snow has definitely motivated me to catch up on the novels in the Psy-Changeling series that I have missed, as well as heightened my anticipation for future novels from Nalini Singh!

Sienna Lauren caught my interest from her first appearance in the series and I loved getting to know more about the X-Psy power. I adore fragile-looking women who have serious power like Sienna in paranormals. The dichotomy involved in such a character is extremely intriguing to me. I also liked how Singh showed how Sienna had grown as a person and a soldier within the SnowDancer pack. The Lauren family has definitely
acclimated to the pack and I loved seeing it in so many different lights. I will admit that I was a little hesitant when thinking about the age difference between Hawke and Sienna, but I got over it quickly especially with how Singh showcased how mature Sienna was due to her childhood/teenage years.

Now, to Hawke...is there anything that hasn't already been said about him? He is sexy and badass for starters. When he decided to go for it with Sienna, there was no stopping him! I loved the protective nature that emerged when he was dealing with his pack and especially Sienna. The fact that he could not save Rissa when he was young made a definite impact on his personality and I liked seeing how Sienna healed that part of his heart. I also liked seeing the way he ruled over SnowDancer and how he used his lieutenants to help him keep the peace. Definitely one of my favorite Singh heroes!!

The relationship between Sienna and Hawke was everything I could have wanted! There were equal parts sexy and sweet. I really enjoyed the fact that they were constantly interrupted from going all the way. The sexual tension that brought about was amazing! The reader could also see that these two understood each other on a deep level beyond the bedroom. They knew how the other ticked and how they could work together. To me, that is the epitome of a great romantic relationship!

The secondary relationships in this book were amazing as well. We have two already mated couples: Lucas and Sascha from "Slave to Sensation" and Brenna and Judd from "Caressed by Ice." I enjoyed getting to see these couples and where they were in their relationship. Lucas and Sascha's baby is finally born and the scenes surrounding that just melted my heart. Since "Caressed by Ice" is my favorite of the whole series, I was overjoyed with the scenes between Brenna and Judd. The way that Judd has grown from our first impression of him is so sweet.

Besides the existing couples, Singh also gives us a real secondary romance to Sienna/Hawke. SnowDancer healer Lara and Sienna's uncle Walker almost stole the show from the main couple at certain times in the book. The idea of Walker being broken before Lara was so poignant especially the paperweight scene:
"He couldn’t say the words, had spent too long in Silence, but he’d learned other ways to speak. Taking the paperweight she’d knocked off her desk out of his pocket, he put it in her hands. “It’s fixed. As long as you don’t mind more than a few scars." So sweet!! Just makes me want to hug Walker!

And if all relationships weren't enough, we also have the escalating violence between Pure-Psy and the changelings. The suspense involved in these scenes had me on the edge of my seat and brought a sense of urgency to the book. The final battle was chaotic, but well-written enough to make sense after a few re-reads. Sometimes the explanation of Sienna's X designation was a little complicated, but I believe I got the basics down.

All in all, I loved everything about this book. The series has a taken a drastic turn and I can't wait to find out more about the Psy-Changeling world. I am especially interested in seeing what side Kaleb is actually on in all this and who the Ghost really is. I have my suspicions, but not enough evidence to share them at the moment. That being said, this was a great addition to the series and makes me eager for more!

As the sum of its parts, I liked Kiss of Snow. The parts where the Snow Dancer's make preemptive strikes against the Psy and the final battle was both climactic and emotionally intense. And I enjoyed seeing Lucas and Sascha along with witnessing their new arrival and what a powerful nurturing instinct the baby stirs up in all of the Changlings.

Now to Hawke and Sienna, while I wasn't exactly disappointed, their story isn't exactly what I'd hoped for either. Some of the intensity that Singh builds early on (and has been building for several books) is lessened by trying to draw the tension out way too long. Multiple times Singh stokes the fire between Hawke and Sienna and puts them in a situations where emotions (and attraction) are running high and then fades to black, leaving us wonder how they managed to avoid taking the next step when there has always been the feeling that should Hawke ever lower his barriers even for an instant, his wolf would claim Sienna in the most primal way. Add to that frequent interruptions every time that things start to get hot and heavy between them later in the book and thread switches to other story lines, and the result is that when they finally do come together it just wasn't as explosive as it could have been had some of the earlier situations been allowed to reach their natural conclusions. I am tempted to go back and read only their story thread and see if I have the same reaction without the thread shifts to chop things up.

One my favorite parts of KoS was the side romance with Walker and Lara, which was sweet and complete and allowed Singh to finally clue us in on all of the details of the Walker family. Although In some ways, I wish that Singh would have saved their story for another book/novella. While their presence as individuals was key to this story, their story did take some of the focus from Hawke and Sienna - and some of what Lara goes through mirrors what is happening to Sienna, which had an impact on the emotional dynamic of the book as well.

Still, I wouldn't have missed this installment in Singh's series and when all was said and done, I was happy to find that though Kiss of Snow was supposed to complete the initial Psy-Changeling story arc, the saga doesn't feel at all finished and I've read that there are more novellas and several full length books yet to come. Sienna and Hawke have been dancing around each other almost from the beginning of the series, so I had high expectations coming into their story. The sexual tension in Kiss of Snow is to-die-for, and when Hawke and Sienna get together the pages of the book burn bright and hot. Yet, despite the couple’s sensual appeal, the lighthearted moments between them are equally engaging. I don’t want to spoil the fun, but I will say that I wouldn’t mind “playing” with Hawke. Individually, Hawke and Sienna are characters you’ll fall in love with, even if you haven’t already. Both have had to take on the mantles of control, responsibility, and maturity at a very young age. It has shaped them and it also shapes their relationship. Hawke has a loving, fiercely protective nature that makes you swoon, even while you shake your head, knowing those same qualities will cause him to make mistakes with Sienna. Sienna, in turn, has incredible strength paired with a huge heart and I loved her for it. The two are made for each other, made to lead the pack, and made to win readers’ hearts.

In many ways, Kiss of Snow is not just Hawke and Sienna’s story, but the story of the Lauren family. Throughout the series, you’ve seen the love that bonds Sienna, her brother, cousin, and uncles together, but in Kiss of Snow you truly see them as a group. Their history is central to the story, as are their relationships with the changelings they’ve fallen in love with. Readers who loved Caressed by Ice will be thrilled to see more of Judd Lauren and his mate, Brenna. Kiss of Snow also features a romance subplot for Walker Lauren and SnowDancer healer Lara. I sighed and, I must admit, went a bit gooey over Walker and Lara’s story, for it was beautiful.

Nalini Singh’s talent for mixing romance with world-building continues to be unmatched. She takes this ability to new heights in Kiss of Snow as the war amongst the Psy spills over to that of the changelings and humans. There’s so much action, intrigue, and danger in Kiss of Snow that I’d love to talk about. However, I feel like giving anything away would ruin the excitement of the book, so I’ll simply say that Ms. Singh seamlessly weaves so much into the story that I was amazed.

Kiss of Snow is the thirteenth story (tenth full-length book) in the Psy-Changeling series. Ms. Singh provides enough information for new readers to follow along, but I wouldn’t recommend it. For me, the power of the story stemmed from my connection to all the characters involved and the world that I have come to love over the course of the series. I encourage readers new to Ms. Singh’s work to read at least the nine previous full-length books before reading Kiss of Snow. Slave to Sensation, Visions of Heat, Caressed by Ice, Mine to Possess, Hostage to Pleasure, Branded by Fire, Blaze of Memory, Bonds of Justice, and Play of Passion are all such incredible reads that you won’t regret holding off just a bit before reading Kiss of Snow.

For those who’ve already read and loved the previous Psy-Changeling books, you’re in for a real treat. Almost all the previous protagonists appear in Kiss of Snow, in addition to secondary characters that you know and love…and will come to love more. I mentioned before the importance of the Lauren family in this book, but don’t think that Kiss of Snow is all about the SnowDancer pack and their mates. The DarkRiver leopards are a big part of the book, and not just because of the increasingly close alliance between the two packs. Kiss of Snow features a subplot that continues the story of everyone’s favorite leopard alpha and E-Psy, Lucas and Sascha (of Slave to Sensation), as they start the next chapter of their lives.

Kiss of Snow is everything I hoped it would be and more, making it easy to enthusiastically recommend. There’s laughter and tears, hope and fear, love and loss. It’s such a “full” book that even saying as much as I have about it barely touches the surface. I loved Kiss of Snow, utterly and completely, and I Joyfully Recommend it!(less)

I can honestly say the book is well worth the wait, and is, if not the best book of the series, equally as good as the best. See, Kiss of Snow isn't perfect. At all. In fact it has a lot wrong with it. for example the story (Sienna and Hawke's) was fast. I felt like i didn't have time to savor it. And there were a lot of things going on in the story at the same time, making it feel choppy and episodic.

But the things that were wrong with the book were also what made it special. In many ways this book isabout precious moments, cherished moments, moments stolen from busy, chaotic, choppy days.

It was about the little moments that made up Sienna and Hawke's courtship; it was about finding precious moments to nurture love in the midst of upheaval.

It was about moments with friends, and about family bonds, friendship bonds, loyalty, love... all in busy times, moments stolen from the day.

It was about the ties that bind.

At the beginning I wasn't sure this was going to be my favorite book. but it's definitely in my top 3 of this series. I LOVE it! the many moments Hawke and Sienna had and the last 25% of the story made up for everything else.

And Hawke is a man after my own heart. he is simply awesome (anyone that says different is a huge liar, lol) and one of my favorite heroes in fiction. One of the things I love most about his character is how flawed he is. He is not at all perfect, which is something not very many of the heroes in this series have been. I immensely enjoyed learning what made him tick, his history and his imperfections too.

Sienna is awesome. Many times i forgot she was only 19. She is much more mature than any 19yo (she is more like Indigo than Evie)and more than a match for Hawke. She could hold her own against him. She's a force to be reckoned with in her own right. And I LOVED their love story, if that's not obvious by now. I also really enjoyed seeing how much-loved Hawke is,how much his pack loves and admires him, and just how much of himself he gives to his pack, how much he loves them, how hard he works to deserve their love and admiration. i only wish there has been more time to spend with Hawke and Sienna and the SnowDancer pack.

The interactions of the Lauren family were also great to see (Toby and Marlee need their own book, hehe). Kiss of Snow is not your most perfect story out there, but it is an amazing love story and well worth the wait (I see you amazon.com, making me wait till past three am to get my hands on this book).

Now all that is left is to make Hawke a daddy!!!!(less)

This is another great entry in the series. I liked the conflict with the Council scenes as contrast to the developing love stories.

Singh seems to feel we've read other stories in the series, as she was a bit short on the world-building in this one. Not a stand-alone read.

Other than that, the plot, characterizations, themes really made my brain happy. I'll say it was worth buying at full price in hardcover for a fan of the series (which I did and which I am).

I will be reading it again.

I have been enraptured by the characters comprising this world since Slave to Sensation, and like many others, have been waiting impatiently for Hawke and Sienna’s book.

Kiss of Snow has quite a few things going on: against the backdrop of Hawke and Sienna confronting their feelings for one another, there is the ongoing war with members of the Psy Council, a secondary romance between SnowDancers Walker and Lara, and the tension surrounding Sascha giving birth.

In addition, since most of the action in this book is taking place inside the SnowDancer environs, a lot of the characters that were mentioned in previous books also appear on the scene here (e.g. Elias & Yuki, Tai, Kieran, Maria, etc.), again reinforcing that this book is not the place to begin for anyone wishing an introduction to this series.

For me, the biggest draw in this book is the explanation of Sienna Lauren’s Psy powers. Throughout the series, hints of Sienna’s power shone through, but we’ve never really known what the X designation was capable of. Ms. Singh does such a fantastic job of keeping the reader on the edge every time Sienna has to channel her unpredictable power.

Hawke, as we all know (and love!), is a true predator alpha. He is extremely dominant, but in such a way that has commanded nothing but love and loyalty from every member of the SnowDancer pack. His interaction with different members within the Pack, from the cubs, to the juveniles, and soldiers & lieutenants is fun to read, because we get to see all the facets of his personality. His involvement with Sienna is intense and the conflict between them is believable. Succinctly, Hawke has already found and subsequently lost his mate, and Sienna is too inexperienced to understand all that an alpha male would demand of her. In my opinion, Ms. Singh does an excellent job of resolving this without compromising the traits that make both of these characters as strong of will as they are.

Walker and Lara provide an interesting foil to the Hawke & Sienna storyline. I felt that they got an appropriate amount of time in their scenes together and as impatient as I was to read more of the Hawke & Sienna scenes, Walker and Lara acted as a nice coolant to curb that impatience so I could really savor reading this book!

I don’t think there is anything I can add to the Sascha-giving-birth storyline other than the event does take place in this book :)

In other books, I have been guilty of skipping some of the Psy scenes, because I was more interested in the changeling packs. In Kiss of Snow however, a fundamental grasp of all the power players is required because they all have such different motivations for the looming war. Members of the Arrow Squad are mentioned briefly, as are all the Councilors. Kaleb Krychek does not play a huge role in the events taking place in this book, but a lot is alluded to, here, about his involvement with the Arrows.

After reading some of the other reviews and discussions surrounding Kiss of Snow, I was very afraid that Hawke & Sienna's story would get overshadowed by all the other events. However, I am very happy that is not the case. The pace moves briskly, but I never felt that Hawke & Sienna's scenes together were not meaningful. They make time for one another but never so the reader would think "Really, there is a crisis in the den and you're making out?!"

In summary, I highly recommend Kiss of Snow as an addition to the Psy-Changeling series and eagerly await the next installment in this absorbing paranormal world.

Having lost his destined mate at an extremely young age, factor in the age difference between he and Sienna and throw in your typical alpha stubbornness, and you can see why he's never acted upon his growing lust for her. A lust that's growing out of control. When Sienna finally throws down the gauntlet and essentially tells Hawke to put out or move on, the hunt is on. And the ultimate Hunter is an Alpha named Hawke. If you've read previous books, you know Hawke does nothing in half measures, and his pursuit and seduction of Sienna is full throttle, take no prisoners. He shows up and shows his bad boy self in a big way and I found myself a literal puddle of goo numerous times.

Its also tender and heartbreaking and Hawke show us a side of him we haven't seen in depth before. He puts Sienna before himself always. He does little things like bringing her gifts and when he finally makes his "claim" public - whoa mama!

After reading Kiss of Snow, I can say without a shadow of a doubt, I'm RUINED for any future romantic hero. EVER. Regardless of author, genre or plot. Hawke is simply it for me. Period. Well played Ms. Singh, well played.

There's also a small side romance between Walker Lauren and the Snowdancer healer Lara. While I loved it, I wish it had been its own book or novella. I admit, I'm greedy and I wanted 400 pages of Hawke and Sienna only!

Beloved alpha pair Sascha and Lucas finally have their baby and its so sweet. We also get a glimpse of a maturing Kit in his scenes with Sienna and I really hope he gets his own book. *shivers*

And just when I think it couldn't possibly get any more enthralling or exciting or surprising, Singh throws in a plot twist I never in a million years would have expected: she actually made me like Nikita. Not only did she make me like her, she made me cry for Nikita and that's a shock in itself. I can't give it away no matter how badly I want to but when you read it, you will know and if you don't at the very least tear up, you just aren't human.

Great first half or so, but repetitive after that. Not as powerful as I expected and I disliked the fact that Hawke was not exactly what we saw in the previous books, was much more positive to the idea of dating Sienna at last and Sienna had no problem controlling her power when Hawke was near. I expected more emotional tension and less sexual frustration.

Wow - Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling world is mind blowing! I have been waiting for Hawke's story and love that he was paired with Sienna. Their chemistry is off-the-charts fabulous.
