How could I resist a book about two cats exploring Paris? Amazon clearly knows me too well.[Does my file really say that I carried Rexie and Gigi around Paris so they could see the Eiffel Tower up close? I wonder.]

Meet Moon and Ollie. They are two Parisian cats. Moon likes to surprise Ollie; and Ollie likes being surprised. But what Ollie seems to enjoy even more that the surprise is trying to guess what it is from the little tidbits Moon drops.

This is a sweet little book that takes the reader o...more

I believe Ollie and Moon are going to be the next big thing in children's animation.

Ollie has a surprise for Moon and leads the way through the streets of Paris, passing traditional Paris landmarks, and stumbling across all sorts of things that Moon loves (cheese!) but she doesn't guess her surprise until the last page.

The two pals are so pleasing to the eye, simple lines, great coloring, and the perfect amount of silly. When the 6 year old was waiting for me to read to him at bedtime, I came i...more

This was very well received for my PJ Storytime with a family who had been to France. The middle child repeated what Moon had found out from her guesses. The youngest was taken with the pictures and always seeing things. It was a little long for my class of 2-3 year olds at story time, but a mother asked for it because her son enjoyed it so much.

Love the photos/illustrations, as well as the wonderful friendship shared between Ollie & Moon. I also enjoyed being surprised by the ending, which is often so predictable in picture books! I think the french vocabulary & significance will not be understood/appreciated by many children, but it's nice to expose them to it.

Cartoon characters placed in photographs to make up the illustrations
Ollie provides a series of clues to his best friend, Moon, as he takes her all through Paris, France, but she is unable to guess what surprise he has in store.

Forgot how much I enjoyed this beautiful, wonderful, hilarious picture book- really enjoyed watching my son getting more anxious about WHAT COULD THE SURPRISE BE?! What a fun discussion we had about prediction!

The storyline is quite cute, and the combination of illustrations and photographs (think Knuffle Bunny) is very attractive. Ollie & Moon have a great dynamic, and make for an entertaining story about friendship.
Dona
Ollie and Moon are adorable. I love the animated characters against the real photo backdrops. It is fun to see the highlights of Paris and to try, along with Moon, to guess Ollie's surprise.

I thought this book was just silly- and not in a good way. Yes, I liked the clues leading up to the ending that readers can begin to piece together. But the rest didn't do anything for me.
The Library Lady
Cute enough. But since it has a Parisian setting, a larger format and simpler layout might have made this more useful for those families and teachers always asking for books set in Paris.

A cute little story for Francophiles and friends of all ages. Would be a good selection for 2011's Summer Reading theme. Love the little escargot at the end!
Catarina
I liked the draw on photo concept, it's an interesting story and it shows pictures of Paris so that's a plus. Without a doubt, a very peculiar book.
Ginny
While I'm not a huge fan of mixing photos with art, this one was still cute :)
Heidi
i've seen it in action! it never fails to charm kids and their parents!
Amy
Higher rating for the background pictures of Paris.

I have been waiting for this book since January and was hoping I wouldn't be completely disappointed. And yay! I wasn't. It wasn't exactly what I expected but that was okay. I still really enjoyed it and there are some really funny lines. I liked the relationship/friendship between Ollie & Moon. And I enjoyed the cartoon/real photograph pictures.
Beth
I loved the combination of photographs and illustrations. And he fact that this story takes place in Paris made it all the more endearing.
