**2.5 Stars**
This book was very difficult for me to rate…on the one hand, it’s not horrible and I didn’t hate it but there were just too many plot holes for the story to be other than prosaic, implausible and predictable with a pretentious style and a stalkerish hero that doesn’t know the meaning of the word no.
If I can say one good thing about the book is that once the hero and heroine were together, there was emotion up the wazoo. You could feel a connection between them like they really were More...

One of my HR friends disliked this book and having never read Anna Campbell before, I decided to skip it. It was getting so many great ratings however, that I thought I might as well check it out from the library and see what all the fuss was about. Well let me tell you, it got off to a
very
rocky start with me and I almost put the book down and didn't finish it - in the end, I'm so glad I didn't!

Another awesome Anna Campbell story. Anna writes such magical stories where the characters and words just fly of the page. I savoured every word in this story about Nicholas Challoner, Marquess of Ranelaw and Lady Antonia Hillard.
Two people that had to overcome their pasts to find a HEA, the story is filled with sensual passion and a truly wonderful adventure that took me to ballrooms in The Regency
Thank you Anna for hours of reading pleasure

Wow. Wow. Wow. This was an excellent historical romance novel.
The basics-
The Marquess of Ranelaw wants revenge. Years ago, Godfrey Demarest allegedly ruined his sister and he plans to return the favor by ruining his one and only daughter.
Miss Antonia Smith is hiding. She was ruined years ago, cast from her family, and fled to her cousin’s home to become her cousin’s companion. Antonia hides her looks so that no one will identify her for fear that she will now disgrace her cousin’s family.

A friend recommended Anna Campbell to me a couple of years ago and I have never been disappointed by one of her books, Midnight's Wild Passion is no exception. She has a gift for making heroines out of characters historically perceived as "inappropriate". While this trend has been ongoing in the romance genre, many of those I've read deal with issues of physicalities; i.e., the less than perfect figure, face, or "infirmity". Egads! This does include eyeglasses. I have a long love affair with his More...

An emotive story of revenge, desire, love and redemption, Anna Campbell's new book, MIDNIGHT'S WILD PASSION, is an unforgettable experience.
Nicholas Challoner, Marquess of Ranelaw, has one thing on his mind - revenge. Twenty years ago, Godfrey Demarest seduced and callously abandoned Nicholas's beloved older sister, Eloise. What could be a more perfect revenge than to seduce and ruin Demarest's daughter, Cassandra (Cassie). There is only one obstacle to his plans and that is the formidable Miss More...

Anna Campbell has done it again. Ms. Campbell’s latest, Midnight’s Wild Passion, is an outstanding contribution to her bookshelf. One of this author’s greatest skills is her ability to write a hero who, at first glance, seems completely unlikable and yet, by the end, we’re all goners. How can a reader possibly fall in love with a man whose one goal in life is to destroy an innocent woman for revenge? Nicholas pursues his goal like a madman and the first several chapters devoted to him, he seems More...

I have some very specific likes and dislikes in the historical romances I read, and this one had a lot of my dislikes in it. However, somehow it worked for me. I could hardly stop reading it.
Nicholas, the hero is a jerk most of the way through. He's out to get revenge (by seducing the daughter of a rake who seduced his sister) and if he has to seduce the gorgon of a companion first, he's game. The gorgon turns out to be a seductress in disguise, and for most of the story, he concentrates on her, More...

An interesting story. Revenge vs. love. This is the basis of so much human action and it is the basis of this book. Nicolas wants revenge for the wrong done to his sister, the only person that ever gave him love. Antonia lost everything because of misplaced love. Nicholas finds his heart lusting for a governess that stands in his way.
The lust and respect that grows between Nicholas and Antonia is real and hot. Their passion heats the pages of the book. I like Nicholas, his turmoil, his hurt and More...

What I Loved: Oh what a fun, wild ride this rake and his ruined lady sent us on! I loved every single character (good and bad) in Midnight's Wild Passion. You will laugh often at the gumption displayed by the women, even when you didn't know it till much later what they were up too--nice little twist Anna Campbell. My favorite moments were the nose to nose exchanging of barbs between Nicholas and Toni and then reading what they were really thinking. They were fantastic lead More...

I reviewed this book for Romance Reader At Heart website:
RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:
I'm so torn about this book. On the one hand, I loved Ms. Campbell's writing; her prose is well known to me and the attention and detail to her love scenes is to be praised! They burn the pages and make you feel the passion that our hero and heroine are going through.
On the other hand, I just couldn't warm myself up to our heroine. Even though Antonia was loyal, devoted, and one tough cookie, I definitely More...

A week after I wrote this review, I was back reading parts that meant so much to me, that touched me so much, that had tears in my eyes. I wanted to put that parts in the review and so more of the story but I so didn't want to give it away. Its one of my top reads this year! It will be one of yours too! Grab this one!

I’ve been having no luck with Anna Campbell’s latest books and this one was no exception :( It’s a story that tries way too hard making every emotion and action so extreme and over the top that nothing seems plausible and it gets irritating. The characters are pretty good at the beginning and show some originality, but then the heroine turns into every other heroine I’ve ever read and the hero is just plain unlikable reminding me more of Anne Stuart’s mean/unfeeling/uncaring sob historical heroe More...

Lady Antonia Hilliard has lived for ten years as Antonia Smith, chaperone to the lovely Cassandra Demarest, who is currently enjoying her first season in London. Her disguise and her strict demeanor keeps anyone who might otherwise be curious away. Enter, Nicholas Challoner, the rake, Marquess of Ranelaw, who seeks out the lovely Cassandra as part of a family revenge plot, but first sets his sights on the plain chaperone. He quickly discovers Miss Smith is not what she seems, hiding behind black More...

This book was incredible. I’m going to keep this review short so that I don’t waste precious time you could be using to rush to the store and pick up a copy to read – immediately. Our heroine, Antonia Smith/Lady Antonia Hilliard, is strong, passionate, sweet, loyal, caring, and bold. I mean, she's really got guts to match her sarcastic, flippiant tongue and I loved it. The Marquess of Ranelaw is obsessed with having revenge on the man, Godfrey Demarest, who disgraced his sister and caused her to be cast out by his father when he was still a young boy. Now success appears to be in his grasp at last when Demarest's young daughter comes out in society. However, his plan is complicated by her formidable dragon of a companion, Miss Antonia Smith. Not only does she guard her charge fiercely, the Marquess finds Miss Smith inexplicably alluring.

Anotha AC, anotha rather pathetic hero. Forget the flimsy, logic-defying premise which U can find in a gazillion HP. The revenge plot skates on thin ice but I went along for the ride. In this case, he means to get a freebie too, the non-descript chaperone, as he goes on his half-assed mission to deflower the daughter of his nemesis. As a bespectacled chick, I'm resigned to the rehashed fact that anytime a boinkable heroine masquerades as an unappealing debutante screener, tinted glasses are a mu More...

Anna has more than just a way with words, she has an ability to make anyone willing to give historical romance a chance become engrossed in her tale. Ranelaw is a man - the kind you think you are in your head, try to be in front of your friends, and desperately want to be in front of women. But his character goes deeper than the primal urges instilled at puberty: revenge on par with Monte Cristo drives him hips first towards the young Demarest, only to be turned by an equally interesting charact More...

A rake is the epitome of what a bad boy is and I think most of us have an ache to possess a character such as Nicholas at least once in our lives. From the first moment they met, the anticipation and promise of passion fairly crackled from the pages as I watched Nicholas and Antonia’s dance of seduction. One of the reasons I love Midnight’s Wild Passion so much is that Ms. Campbell gives us this rake whose main agenda is to seek vengeance for his sister. But as the story progresses we see Nichol More...

So many great books are being released the this week and MIDNIGHT’S WILD PASSION is definitely at the top of that list! Anna Campbell excels at the tortured hero, and although Nicholas is more lonely than tortured he is a perfect hero in need of redemption. Their romance isn’t conventional and takes place more in the bedroom than anywhere else, but the emotion behind their encounters is unforgettable.
There are several lines in the book, that I thought were fantastic. First, this line is Antonia’ More...

Anna Campbell is an author I've followed with interest, because no matter how good or bad her books have been in the past (and IMO they range from nearly campily melodramatic to disturbing to excellent), I am totally unable to put them down until I've finished them. They're like crack for bookworms. First I read Untouched, which is riveting in all its over the top melodrama; I gulped it down despite the soap-opera-ish plot. Then I read Claiming the Courtesan, which I liked despite the fact that More...

This review is going to be set up into pros and cons because I was rather torn about how I felt. I liked it overall, but there were parts that I really didn't like too.
Pros:
Nicholas Challoner, Marquess of Ranelaw, is a charming and mostly gentle character
Antonia Hilliard/Smith is an awesome heroine. She has to be somewhere in my top ten favorite romance novel heroines. She's very feisty and witty. She was the bright highlight of the novel.
Cassandra Demarest is a great secondary character. I l More...

The author described this book as the closest she's ever gotten to a traditional Regency romance, and for me that sums it up nicely: this is Regency, done Anna-style. The set up is very familiar, almost over the top familiar -- the hero is looking for revenge against the man who ruined his sister, and his chosen method is (what else?) to despoil the man's daughter. Standing in his way is the heroine, Antonia, a beautiful aristocrat disguised as a plain governess, hiding the shame of a youthful i More...

AC wrote two of my all-time favorite romances, Untouched and Captive of Sin, plus the very entertaining Seven Nights in a Rogue's Bed. She has also written the notorious (but addicting) Claiming the Courtesan and a couple of other books I can use for naps. So you never know what you get with her. Luckily, this is on the plus side of the ledger. Our hero wants to seduce and ruin a young woman because her father did the same to his sister years ago.
