I admit that I would never have read this if it wasn't a part of my goodreads group's Travelling Book Tour, but I'm pleased to find that I am not left with that feeling of "I've just wasted several hours of my life". However, this novel is so full of ups and downs it's almost impossible to rate and, despite the relatively low rating, it was a rather light, easy and not entirely unenjoyable read.

This book gives me nightmares.

It is absolutely, undeniably, terrifying, to the point where it scares moi. (which is getting pretty hard to do anymore, unless you're an undead Japanese girl.) I have never been so horrified and shaken more by any book in my entire life.

When I first saw the description for this book, I knew I had to get my hands on it. How many times have I "fallen in love" with a character from one of the books I've read. Before: My god! this sounds totally amazing! how many times haven't I dreamt one of my loved characters became real! :O Must read this...

After: I liked it. It was nice and an easy read but I just felt that the idea -which is awesome- could have gone much farther, be more developed, like it was kind of wasted. Just finished reading The vampire stalker.I had to read this book because it was chosen to be one of the top 20 nominees of 2013's Red Maple Reading program.There's really nothing to hate about this book except one thing. There should be a second book to this! Showing what happens after all the trauma and happy endings.

It all started when Amy was going to buy the Otherworld Series with her best friends Luisa and Katie. They were all really fond of that book series. The book series was about a vampire named Vigo and a vampire hunter, Alexander whom Amy really liked. One day Amy was just walking around at night when someone attacked her from the back. At that time she had a feeling that it was a vampire who attacked her. Not only that but she also felt that somebody had saved her from the vampire just in time. When Amy got back to consciousness she saw that the person who had saved her. He had exact resemblance with Alexander Banks the character from the novels. Was it really Alexander Banks who had come to the real world???
The characters in this book were very well portrayed. The vampire and the vampire hunter have human like emotions. For example, on page #25 Alexander states, “I am Alexander Banks at you service. This shows that Alexander the vampire hunter has human like emotions because he helped Amy from the Vampire. The author used very strong descriptive language for example, while describing Vigo she uses language such as ice blue eyes, great blond hair and while describing Alexander she used very descriptive language like slashed on the tongue and deep scar down at the bottom half of his tongue. The mystery genre of the book is well done and creates a setting full of suspense that once you start reading the book you probably would feel like you are inside the book. One problem in the book was that it was hard to believe because vampires and vampire hunters don’t actually exist.
In my opinion this book was magnificent because the plot was so interesting that it kept me from putting the book down until I finished the whole novel. Amy is my favourite character because she is brave and loving which she shows by putting her life in risk for her younger sister, Chrissy. Even the antagonist is so well represented.

As long as you're not planning on taking this book seriously, you're going to have a lot of fun. I certainly did! At first I was a bit iffy, what with the main character being as gushy as she is over Alexander, even when he was fictional but I got used to her pretty quickly.

It's more than obvious that The Vampire Stalker was written for a specific type of reader, but for those of you who don't spend hours daydreaming about certain fictional male characters, you can still enjoy this book nonetheless.

I can't decide whether or not The Vampire Stalker is actually young adult. I'm thinking more so middle grade-ish. While the concept definitely fits YA, there was also quite a bit of juvenile dialogue and toned down gory scenes.

I had a very difficult time getting into this book. The premise made it sound awesome. Who wouldn't want to read a book where a girl meets the hero from a novel within the world she lives in? I thought the story and romance was going to be amazing because it was such a unique idea.

From the blurb on the back, I thought it would be a hilarious take on how rabid book fans can be, to the extent that their wild fantasies actually come to life. Having read the Twilight books, I was half-hoping for some witticims on the whole craze over vampires recently. Even looking at the cover, I thought it was trying to mock the seriousness of vampire novels.

Having read the Twilight books, I was half-hoping for some witticims on the whole craze over vampires recently. Even looking at the cover, I thought it was trying to mock the seriousness of vampire novels.

I got a bit of that, but not nearly enough to placate me. Instead, the story was far more serious--Amy, the main protagonist, is struggling after her parents' divorce, what with her sister constantly pushing her away and her failed attempts at writing anything but fanfiction. Some of her issues drove really close to home for me, which is good in a sense but not what I was looking for from this book.

The characters were all rather flat. The book was so short that only Amy and her love interest, Alexander Banks, vampire slayer come to life out of one of Amy's favourite book series, are the only characters that really get showcased. Though Amy's younger sister does seem to have a bit of a character arc--perhaps even more so than the main characters. Amy's friends were cool and I would have loved to hang out with them, but they didn't jump out at me from the page. Even now I'm trying really hard to remember the names of the characters in this book, because their personalities were simply non-existent to me.

I think the main issue is that this book was simply too short and took itself too seriously for me to handle. It's not a bad book by any means, but the interesting ideas in it took a back seat to Amy and Alexander's budding romance, which tied up a little too neatly for me. The choice Alexander makes in the end would not have been so simple for real people, whose loves for love interest or family are often tangled together and of the same strength. Actually, I would have thought love for family, your own blood, would trump the attraction you feel to a girl you hardly know and have just met.

But perhaps that's me being nit-picky. I'm hardly one against happy endings, but I was just expecting so much more from this story that the big happy bow wrapped around it makes me want to act like a cat and tear it to shreds. If it had been a wee bit more witty and even darkly comedic (I just wanted to laugh, for goodness' sake!), I may have been more forgiving. But the blurb promised more than what I got, and, though that's not the author's fault by any means, it makes me wary to trust any book blurbs because you really have to wonder if those people actually read the book.

However, this book is light, sweet, and short enough for a summer beach read. So if that's your thing definitely check it out and decide for yourself. This is simply my opinion. :)

I loved this book so much, certainly a lot more than I expected to. I adored the characters, especially Amy and Alexander.

I feel that I can particularly relate to Amy. Have I ever loved a character in a book? Yes! Have I fan-girled? Definitely! From everything to fan-fiction and her taste in boys, I feel the same as Amy. Also, I found her great because she wasn't one of those characters that are purposely made super(and sometimes annoyingly) kick-ass, but she wasn't weak.

I adored the plot as well! As a book nerd I can't tell you how many guys in books I've wished to be real (come on, you know you've done it too ;)). So obviously the premise is awesome and I can personally assure you that the author plays it out very well! I wondered at first if the way Alexander ended up in regular Chicago would be a little cheesy but it was actually exquisitely done and very creative and plausible.
Vigo? Um, yeah he had issues and i wasn't sorry about where the book took his character. I loved Amy's friends and also James and Hannah, even though James and Hannah weren't in the book much you learned enough about them before they showed up that made you feel like you knew them well. I also really liked the addition of Mrs. P. it's nice for YA characters to have a caring and responsible adult Involved and assisting their efforts. Realistic and helpful. Because, honestly, I can't envision too many teenagers being able to go through some things in YA novels without needing the assistance and guidance of a trusted adult. It was also nice to read a book that wasn't a series. Dont get me wrong, I love series-es and if the author made this a series I would be thrilled but it's nice to read a book every now and then that comes to a conclusion in one volume. It's satisfying to watch the characters you rooted for get a happy ending in the same tome from time to time. Speaking of, I loved Amy's thoughts on reading, the excitement she felt over The Mists and her love/despair at the cliffhanger ending. It's one of the things you'd have to read to appreciate but trust me when I say that Allison van Diepan perfectly depicts the feelings of an enthusiastic bibliophile towards her favorite book! I had to Chuckle at Amy's thoughts throughout her book because I have thought so many of them myself reading!
Overall i felt like this was an extremely lovely read, just the right amount of light and intense, making it the perfect end-of-summer beach read. The perfect characters to fall in love with and make you want a mathematical degree to study literary physics... (go read the book and you'll get what I mean ;)) awesome book! Five stars!(less)

I've got to admit, this book was a fun, enjoyable read. Personally, in most of the books I read, I fall in love with at least one male character (tv shows and films, too), so when I read the tagline for it (Ever been in love with a boy in a book?), I was immediately like, 'This is my sort of book!' and then I saw the title, which really put me off buying it for a couple of days. When I first heard about this book a few months ago, I really wanted to read it - I’m not sure why. It just sounded like it would be really fun and interesting and different from other YA paranormal books out right now.

In the end, the book was entertaining but it wasn’t anything more than that and it is one that I’ll probably have forgotten I even read within a day or two.

I didn’t like the writing at all - it’s not one of those books that I find myself wanting to mark quotes from because I love the wording or because I relate to it somehow, there was nothing quotable about this book and it was very “I did this, then I did that and then we did this.” and a lot of it was filler stuff like her telling us what she was having for dinner (think Twilight writing only less purple prose).

I didn’t feel any connection to the characters at all - I didn’t love them or hate them and so I didn’t really care what happened to them and the romance was a bit…flat.

The execution of the story honestly read like cliché, mediocre author insert fan fiction (which is basically what it was only the book it was a fan fiction of only exists within the story) -- hell, the main character even writes fan fiction within the story. I guess reading the synopsis I should have guessed it would’ve felt like reading author insert fan fiction but I think maybe because it was an actual published novel I expected more, I expected it to be written better in a way that took it to another level.

The plot had some extreme ridiculous aspects to it - and I know this is fiction, but if an author writes something well enough then it will be believable within the context of the story…I’ve read books and been convinced by things like zombies and werewolves; parts of this were just not that believable.

I think it was less about the plot and more about the way it was written…like having a regular character conveniently be an expert on the very random and odd thing that happens in the book (you’ll know what I mean if you read it - the librarian). Kind of like watching a soap opera and a character suddenly has a heart attack in a restaurant but one of the other people there just happens to be a top heart surgeon who knows exactly what to do - it’s like, what are the chances? And it comes across as so planned/ridiculous.

For some reason anytime I try to think of how to say my thoughts on this book, my sentences end in eugh or meh. Other people may love this book, I can see why some people would, it just was not my cup of tea at all - good idea, bad/mediocre execution - the only really positive thing I can think to say is that it kept me entertained for a few hours but then I'm easily amused so that's not saying much (seriously: my dog spent like 15 minutes chasing the red dot from a laser pen and I thought it was silly until I realised I had spent 15 minutes completely amused just watching aforementioned dog chase the red dot from a laser pen...).

If I had to rate the book, it'd get 2/2.5 stars out of 5. Not awful, but not good either.

This book seems to be just like the book inside of it. I feel like i could be Amy, and that I actually saw a man reminiscent of Alexander Banks on the street last week, but i know i didn't. I can imagine someone like Vigo causing havoc in our world, just because he likes it. Now, what i really want to touch on is the characters. I want to relate how i feel about this wonderful book, (which made me drool over Alexander over every turn! Who would like James??? Just saying James fans.), to you, my...more This book seems to be just like the book inside of it. I feel like i could be Amy, and that I actually saw a man reminiscent of Alexander Banks on the street last week, but i know i didn't. I can imagine someone like Vigo causing havoc in our world, just because he likes it. Now, what i really want to touch on is the characters. I want to relate how i feel about this wonderful book, (which made me drool over Alexander over every turn! Who would like James??? Just saying James fans.), to you, my other hyper-focusing rabid book readers.

First, and most importantly, is my 'Alexander Banks Eval' This character has a multifaceted personality, and his personality takes trips around the circle- One second he is a chivalrous vampire hunter who will stop at nothing to eradicate the world of this menace. The next second he is trying to tease Amy, or better yet, asking to kiss her! The only thing that is really, truly constant is his seriousness about most everything and his invulnerability to any physical attack. Alexander is the Drop-Dead fantasy bad boy that every sane girl wants to watch have a throw down, but at the same time, are very worried about him getting any type of injury, although he already has many. So with Alex, for me, his pro's are larger than his con's and i would welcome him with open arms to my world.

Second, is my evaluation of the character that i most relate to, Amy. Amy is a quiet girl who has her own little "Group," and, more importantly,an avid(or rabid) love of reading. She also has a little sibling, just like myself. Amy is the poster child for "I think i am totally average, but others tell me differently." Amy is mostly against fighting, but is not afraid to get in someones face, or more accurately, get a stake in a vampires rib cage. All throughout the book, Amy tries to get Alex to work with her, but all he does is refuse her, and say that she is weak, when he is really worried about her. I like her rebellious side too- she never rebels against her mother, or practically any other authority figure, but she will lie and cheat and do anything to keep her loved ones safe- once again, much like myself. She has an open mind, and was immediately ready to believe that this was all real, and that vampires were too. Amy is a very strong willed woman, who i consider to be a good role model for young women. Be good, and when disaster strikes, help! She also shows that even though something bad may have happened to you, you don't have to play the victims role. And another thing- she makes you see that happily ever after can happen any way. By two people connecting, a night in shining armor, and just being happy single, with your love in books. Another part of me that is very closely related to Amy is our love of writing. I write original stories, and fan fiction. This character, even though i know she is not, seems like she is based off of me.That is how deeply i connect with this high school, fictional teenager.

Finally, i just want to point out things i like and dislike about the novel its self. I really liked how the good guy was a human for once-some one completely human with no supernatural anything. I also like that Vigo represents evil, and there is no tangible romance factor in this book relating to any vampire, at all. What i dislike is how much of a pacifist James is. If you live in a world full of vampires, you have to be prepared to fight, no matter what. I also dislike the fact that Otherworld was so left behind. I mean, their tech is limited to.... Well basically a primitive telephone or a telegraph. They should have been at least a little farther, but then the story probably wouldn't have turned out so well.

Kudos to this author for being able to write so well that i enjoyed Vampire Stalker better than the twilight saga(That i have read each book over 20 times each)with just one book that made my heart race. This book was amazing, and i do hope that Allison Van Diepen will write more amazing books relating to this one in the future.

I Knew the moment i saw the dedication "For Those of you who have ever fallen in love with a character in a book" that i would fall in love with this book and boy was i right ....

from the very first page i was enchanted and wrapped up in the story line i could bearly peel my eyes off my kindle!

The Characters are entertaining and totally realatable... I have often dreamt of and been in love with the Characters in books that i am reading hence my page's profile pic "Boys in Books are just better"...more

Shelves: ya, ya-paranormal

So I was at my local indie bookstore talking with two of the booksellers, when one of them stopped and said, "Oh, I have a book you have to read. You'll appreciate it." She then picked up The Vampire Stalker and said, "Ignore the title, and the cover," and then explained the book to me.

It was a quick fun read, and is good for anyone who likes fanfiction or has ever been too into a fictional character.
