What if the characters in a vampire novel left their world--and came into yours?
Amy is in love with someone who doesn't exist: Alexander Banks, the dashing hero in a popular series of vampire novels. Then one night, Amy meets a boy who bears an eerie resemblance to Alexander. In fact, he IS Alexander, who has escaped from the pages of the book and is in hot pursuit of a wi...more

I admit that I would never have read this if it wasn't a part of my goodreads group's Travelling Book Tour, but I'm pleased to find that I am not left with that feeling of "I've just wasted several hours of my life". However, this novel is so full of ups and downs it's almost impossible to rate and, despite the relatively low rating, it was a rather light, easy and not entirely unenjoyable read.
The book is (literally) dedicated to a specific type of reader - and you know who you are. Are you...more
Alexander Banks was in the middle of pursuing his vampire enemy, Vigo Skaar when they both suddenly found themselves in a different Chicago than the one they were just in.
It's after saving Amy Hawthorne from Vigo's attack that he learns where he is at.
Just a week ago, Amy and her friends were obsessing over the release of the second book in the Otherworld series. Now Amy cannot believe Alexander Banks really just saved her life. Until he shows her scars only the real Alexander would have.

This book gives me nightmares.
It is absolutely, undeniably, terrifying, to the point where it scares moi. (which is getting pretty hard to do anymore, unless you're an undead Japanese girl.) I have never been so horrified and shaken more by any book in my entire life.
Yah.
So you may be wondering why this isn't in the horror genre... That's because what I find so disturbing in this book is not the plot, but the concept.

When I first saw the description for this book, I knew I had to get my hands on it. How many times have I "fallen in love" with a character from one of the books I've read. I know we all become attached to some characters *ahem* Bones *ahem* more than others. So, I knew I had to pick this up, and I was not disappointed!
What surprised me the most was how light and feel good this novel was. The cover kind of makes you think it'll be a little bit darker. But, despite some of the darker par...more

Before: My god! this sounds totally amazing! how many times haven't I dreamt one of my loved characters became real! :O Must read this...
After: I liked it. It was nice and an easy read but I just felt that the idea -which is awesome- could have gone much farther, be more developed, like it was kind of wasted. The first time I knew of this book I though the main character, Amy, would have been older and I so I expected the story to have gone more places and be more elaborated..maybe even a series...more

Just finished reading The vampire stalker.I had to read this book because it was chosen to be one of the top 20 nominees of 2013's Red Maple Reading program. There's really nothing to hate about this book except one thing. There should be a second book to this! Showing what happens after all the trauma and happy endings.

Red Maple # 2:
For my second Red Maple, I read 'The Vampire Stalker', written by Allison van Diepen.
When Amy (the protagonist) meets Alexander Banks she doesn't know what to believe. That's because he couldn't be real; either that or he was in a costume. He resembles 'the' Alexander Banks from a novel; in a, charming, handsom, brave way, that is. Alexander Banks comes to life from Elizabeth Howard's popular vampire novels in search of Vigo; a blood-sucking, gory, ruthless vampire (antagonist),...more

The Vampire Stalker by Allison Van Diepen, a selected Red Maple Book of 2013, was an amazing novel. It had a great plot, setting and awesome characters. The genre of this book is mystery and suspense. The whole story took place in Chicago, U.S.A. It was so interesting that once I started reading it I couldn’t put it back down. If you want to be in the shoes of an astonishingly brave and courageous girl who is willing to fight a vampire, you should read this book

As long as you're not planning on taking this book seriously, you're going to have a lot of fun. I certainly did! At first I was a bit iffy, what with the main character being as gushy as she is over Alexander, even when he was fictional but I got used to her pretty quickly.
The world itself is rather silly! The police and the rest of Chicago don't act as people would in today's world, it's all a bit OTT and the bad guy is as scary as pink toilet paper but that doesn;t matter. Because it's all v...more

It's more than obvious that The Vampire Stalker was written for a specific type of reader, but for those of you who don't spend hours daydreaming about certain fictional male characters, you can still enjoy this book nonetheless.
I can't decide whether or not The Vampire Stalker is actually young adult. I'm thinking more so middle grade-ish. While the concept definitely fits YA, there was also quite a bit of juvenile dialogue and toned down gory scenes.

I had a very difficult time getting into this book. The premise made it sound awesome. Who wouldn't want to read a book where a girl meets the hero from a novel within the world she lives in? I thought the story and romance was going to be amazing because it was such a unique idea.
Problem was, this read way too much like a bad fanfiction. There was way too much telling way too early in the novel, and since I was not invested yet, I did not care about the fictional universe set within this w...more

Is this is every gal who loves fictional men's dream.
This book describes a story written by a famous author known as Elizabeth Howard. She is famous for writing the Otherworld series, and likewise in reality of books, there are teams. For instance, it is either Team Alexander or Team James. Most girls are for James, but our main character Amy is all for classy, brave Alexander.
One day Alexander comes to life.
Most would think it is a dream come true, but not for Amy. Sure he was hot and all, but...more

The Vampire Stalker by Allison van Diepen was not what I expected it to be. From the blurb on the back, I thought it would be a hilarious take on how rabid book fans can be, to the extent that their wild fantasies actually come to life. Having read the Twilight books, I was half-hoping for some witticims on the whole craze over vampires recently. Even looking at the cover, I thought it was trying to mock the seriousness of vampire novels.

I loved this book so much, certainly a lot more than I expected to. I adored the characters, especially Amy and Alexander.
I feel that I can particularly relate to Amy. Have I ever loved a character in a book? Yes! Have I fan-girled? Definitely! From everything to fan-fiction and her taste in boys, I feel the same as Amy. Also, I found her great because she wasn't one of those characters that are purposely made super(and sometimes annoyingly) kick-ass, but she wasn't weak.

Have you ever loved a book so much that you began to develop a crush on one of its characters? Amy Hawthorne is a typical 17-year-old girl. She enjoys hanging out with friends, going to the library and is obsessed with a series of books about two vampire-hunting cousins. Amy and her friends camp out to be the first to get copies of the newest installment in the Otherworld trilogy. The books follow the story of two cousins, James and Alexander Banks whose family was murdered by a group of bloodth...more
This was an awesome book! I read it in one day at the beach. Very engaging with great characters. I loved how responsible the main character, Amy, was, she was very level headed and rational even in bad situations. She had realistic expectations of what she could or couldn't do and understood why some things that werent so thrilling had to be that way anyway.
Alexander was determined, passionate, and generally hot. I didn't fall for him right away as he was slightly aloof but as you got to know h...more

Amy has a similar problem to Delilah's, but the stakes are higher-- Amy's favorite books are the Otherworld series with the vampire hunter Alexander Banks. She gets the latest books, writes fan fiction, reads the web sites obsessively. When she is attacked while walking home one night, she finds out the Alexander has come from Otherworld Chicago into Chicago proper-- and so has the very evil vampire Vigo, who has commenced killing people in Amy's world. At first, Amy thinks that the boy is just...more
I chose this book , because I enjoy reading about Vampires, especially after reading Twilight. Once I read the title and cover of this book, it decided to read it. This book is basically about two characters from a book coming alive. The names of the two characters are Alexander and Vigo. Vigo is a vampire that is trying to take over the entire city of Chicago, by killing people. The quote I chose is"Wait a minute— who is Mrs. Alexander Banks eight thousand and twenty-one?" Uh-oh. He'd spotted t...more

Oh, lord. I saw this on my school book trailers. My gosh. The name of the book. THE VAMPIRE STALKER. I'm sure Edward MUST be in this.

My friends burst out laughing in class and the boys were high-fiving and cracking up. THE VAMPIRE STALKER. The name alone turns me off.

Definitely! I’ve fell in love with at least one character in every book I’ve read and when I found out about The Vampire Stalker’s Synopsis, I can’t help but feel excited. I was glad I found a book about fictional characters coming to life.

I've got to admit, this book was a fun, enjoyable read. Personally, in most of the books I read, I fall in love with at least one male character (tv shows and films, too), so when I read the tagline for it (Ever been in love with a boy in a book?), I was immediately like, 'This is my sort of book!' and then I saw the title, which really put me off buying it for a couple of days. (I think vampires are extremely over-used in fiction. Actually, werewolves are getting that way too).

When I first heard about this book a few months ago, I really wanted to read it - I’m not sure why. It just sounded like it would be really fun and interesting and different from other YA paranormal books out right now.
In the end, the book was entertaining but it wasn’t anything more than that and it is one that I’ll probably have forgotten I even read within a day or two.

This book seems to be just like the book inside of it. I feel like i could be Amy, and that I actually saw a man reminiscent of Alexander Banks on the street last week, but i know i didn't. I can imagine someone like Vigo causing havoc in our world, just because he likes it. Now, what i really want to touch on is the characters. So I was at my local indie bookstore talking with two of the booksellers, when one of them stopped and said, "Oh, I have a book you have to read. You'll appreciate it." She then picked up The Vampire Stalker and said, "Ignore the title, and the cover," and then explained the book to me.

This title was such great fun albeit so unbelievable in parts! Amy Hawthorne is in love with Alexander Banks, a character from a widely popular vampire series--and how many of us can relate to that whole premise of falling in love with a book or a character in a book so much that we feel bereft when the book ends?--and spends her free time writing fan fiction about Otherworld Chicago where the vampire series takes place.
