If you can make it past what I believe are a record-setting number of typos and grammatical mistakes, this is actually a worthwhile read. Quinn, a 38-year-old single audiologist/artist, hears her biological clock ticking and decides it's time to start dating. And not just normal dating--Quinn tries out speed dating, online dating, and blind set-ups with total strangers. (And sometimes the person setting Quinn up was ALSO a total stranger; all they knew about her was that she was the nice single...more
This book is in serious need of an editor. The number of typo errors was ridiculous. A few made me have to stop reading for a moment to decipher them which brought me out of the story. Many of the typos would have been picked up with a spellcheck (for example "myh" instead of "my"). Also, there were several sections that dragged on too long. The story itself had some entertainment value, but a good editor would assist with shortening some of the tangents that went on too long.

I can't even say how much I loved this book. I got it through Booklending.com and wasn't in the mood to read it really and then I read the first paragraph...and couldn't stop until I'd read the last. It was funny and so truthful. Actually I thought it was a true story until about halfway through and if you told me it was true I'd believe you.

Thirty-eight year old Quinn Malone is tired of sitting home alone, watching Jersey Shore and doing crossword puzzles. She’s also tired of being single, and decides to make finding a man her top priority. The Truth About Dating recounts Quinn’s endeavors, from Match.com to speed dating, to the dreaded blind date. I did enjoy the story and the humour, though it seemed frayed around the edges. there were a lot of characters that didn't play interesting, necessary roles, I.e. Ann, which left me wondering if they would re-emerge to contribute to Quinn's love struggle or if they were just background noise. I still can't decide if I enjoyed this book because of all the "noise" or if its informality and lack of neatness made it seem more real. The author wrote this book based on her own experiences, which I adm...more
Not a bad read. The protaganist is a woman who had not been dating, but her friends talked her into joining Match.com. The novel is the story of steering the ebbs and flows of online dating. The men she meets vary greatly. Living in Omaha, Nebraska her pool is smaller than it would be in an even larger city. She goes through the ways she changed her profile to try to attract different kinds of men, mostly the kind she was looking for. Having used online dating some I recognize many of the situat...more
Found this book for 99 cents and couldn't resist checking it out - I downloaded the sample to my kindle and after a few pages, I realized how much I enjoyed the author's writing. The book itself flew by, made me laugh and was over far too quickly! I loved the main character, Quinn, and was really rooting for her.. and getting such a kick out of all the different dating experiences she described.

This was a freebie Kindle book I picked up and I didn't expect a lot from it, to be honest, but was pleasantly surprised. The book is the author's account of her adventures in dating and over the course of several months she goes on blind dates, speed dating nights and tries internet dating. As someone who has done a lot of internet dating myself, with mixed results, I found a lot here I could identify with, though I felt the author had incredible high criteria when choosing men and perhaps need...more
Clever introverted Quinn needs a man--and fast. She's 38, determined to conquer the dating world solely for the purpose of locating what's eluded her so far in life, a husband. Her travails, and her witty exposition of them, provide an entertaining read. At least a score of times, I laughed out loud at her ironic observations or the tortuous situations in which she found herself.

This is not escapist chicklit - it's shows more of the reality of dating and the difficulty in finding "Mr Right". Quinn is a strong character but who also has her flaws. She gets hurt and disappointed but she also comes to see the postives in her life. I enjoyed reading about her job as an audiologist and the patients that she met. I also liked the way that she came to turn her attitudes around to see the positives in her situation. This is not a romance novel though.
This is a must for those who are looking to date, or haven't dated, but think they might want to get back into the rat race. Men are not seen in a good light, although you start to get a few flaws in the writer as well. it's funny, and is written in a clever way. I can't see anyone who's married who could get into this book, except to show them how hard it is to put yourself out there.

Another one of my 99 cent specials on Amazon. I would have given it four stars because I did really like it but it was a bit of a hot mess writing wise(as is this review hardy har har). This book was clearly the author's journal, and as a single lady, I have to say it was TOO real. It was a disheartening and depressing reflection of dating in one's thirties. Sniff.
Overall a boring read. The main character exhausted me with the way she approached dating. Not only was she intolerable of anything less than perfect behavior from the men she would communicate with and date, but her expectations were clearly derived from Cinderella and other Disney fantasy tales. I felt tired after finally finishing this one.
It was a bit exhausting trudging through so many guys, but I think that was the point. The writing was a bit bad in some spots - I can't stand typos and misspellings. Would I read it again? No, but it gave me a few kernels of advice/insight I hadn't considered before and I can never regret reading something if it's done as much.

I loved this book. it wasn't ever really dull at any points. it tells the pros and cons about dating, the stages, and how to deal with the seven stages of dating. i think the author did a pretty good job it kept me interested pretty much the whole time.
